Dating the boss is a catastrophe waiting to happen. So why can’t she get Aiden out of her head?
What a delightful read this was! It's the first debut novel by this author and I'm impressed with what she wrote as it is the first book. I loved the story, characters and the representation it has ranging from chronic anxiety to Pokemon. It was endearing, sweet with a dash of possessiveness and the spice was 🎇.
I loved Abbie. She was sunshine when she was herself. I feel like she was so well written. She was adorable when she felt embarrassed and that happened a couple times. She was hard-working even though the job she was doing wasn't the dream one but she will fake it until she makes it. I love that even through her struggles in her work, she tried to do it until she got it and she never put blame on her boss, Aiden, or anyone else. I appreciated that others saw how much she did without announcing it to the world. She still has an ongoing battle with her chronic anxiety and her troublesome mother but she takes a day at a time. She has friends in her corner that i adored and now she has Aiden too. I like the fact that Abbie stopped or asked for time to make big decisions like jumping in a fling of sorts/ relationship with her boss. She thought things through and I loved that she knew herself enough to acknowledge what she could handle and what she couldn't.
Aiden had a tough childhood and he was forced to take care of his sisters and his mother so as an adult his goal is to earn enough money so that his family doesn't have to go through rough times like in the past which lead to just work and not have a life outside of it until Abbie appears in his life. He was such a good boss but also a good man. He had his feet firmly on the ground and his eye on the price but he just couldn't purge Abbie from his thoughts and he tried to so when an opportunity to have Abbie presented itself , he couldn't refuse. I loved that he explicitly asked for Abbie's consent every step of the way especially because what Abbie deals with on a daily basis. He was supportive in every way he could and I just loved seeing them fall in love. I'm not a big fan of keeping relationships a secret however I like how Violet wrote it. Aiden felt like Abbie deserved a lot more than that and felt bad about it but they both agreed it was for the best. Safe to say, it didn't take long until the secret came out.
The third act break up was somewhat expected but I have to say that it was well done because it showcased this man who was always in control of everything, just lose it and yes he let Abbie go because of it but he immediately regretted it (with the push of Claire and his mom) which in turn made him in a way feel and know how Abbie feels whenever she is overwhelmed with emotions and needs space and time to put herself together again. On the other side of things, this served to push Abbie towards her dream job but also out of her comfort zone and just do something for herself. I loved how she dealt with it but also how forgiven she was. This was the type of story that I didn't get mad when he forgave him because that's just how Abbie is plus Aiden is a great guy overall. Aiden did his big gesture and I loved it. It was surprising but then it was obvious too. I love the fact that he doesn't mind feeling silly because his reward is Abbie's big smile and that's what he strives for every time. I loved them together and how good they are for each other.
I loved Ethan too and I wonder if we'll have his story soon if ever. I would love to read it. Indigo's (Abbie's BFF) showdown with Aiden was everything. I LOVED it! I can't wait for her story next and to find out who's the lucky man.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This was a perfect read!!!! This is debut novel novel by Violet K. Avery and I’m so much excited to say that I’m impressed!!!! It was a perfect blend of feelings , spice, responsibilities, family emotions, friendships and hardships…
Abbie was well written… she was charm and sunshine who wants to do photography but is stuck in the corporate because of the financial instability.. she is hardworking even when the job she is doing is not her dream job, she still gives her infinite percent so as to fulfill her struggles at every step of her life. She stands strong while dealing with chronic anxiety and her troublesome mother, and never gives up on her strengths, her friends and Aiden…
Aiden is a goal oriented person who has suffered a lot during his childhood which forced him to take care of his sisters and mother and drop his teenage experiences.. His aim is to earn a healthy amount of money so that he doesn’t have to suffer again as his past. I love the way he is so gentle towards Abbie and the way he asks for her consent just to make her comfortable with their relationship.. Even when he learns about Abbie’s chronic anxiety he makes her so comfortable and supports her in a very adorable way…
The break up scene was perfectly written by violet… Aiden who was always in control just looses it because of his emotional instability and let Abbie go but as soon as he realises his mistake , he leaves no stone unturned to get her back and to keep everything in place… I love how their attraction at first meeting grows to pure and genuine love and ends with a happily ever after. Thank you so chaoticcreativeservices and author Violet K. Avery for the ARC!❤️
An amazing debut book by Violet K Avery, the characters are engaging and the storyline is super cute. As someone who suffers with anxiety I think that Abbie was written beautifully and I was able to sympathise with her catastrophising behaviours. Aiden was a sweet cinnamon roll whose appreciation of Abbie had me kicking my feet and giggling like a fool. I also want to take a moment to say that everyone needs a best friend like Indie, she is an angel who’s story I can’t wait to get my teeth into! 10/10 a fantastic read!!!!! ❤️
Mini Book Review Not as Advertised by Violet Avery
Tropes, Triggers and Thoughts Opposites attract Age gap (I admit I am not a fan of this trope) Enemies to lovers Boss/employee relationship Mental Health rep- anxiety (this was handled well) Cat Pokemon and cosplay Career development Dual POV
Overall ⭐️⭐️⭐️✨3.5 A pleasant quick read from a new to me author.
Thanks to the author for my digital ARC in return for an honest review. Opinions expressed are my own.
Aidan, new VP at a successful media company. Determined, driven and completely caught off guard by lovely Abigail, his new Executive Assistant. She is too young, too sweet and everything he’s looking for in a partner - but he is her boss.
This debut novel had everything I love in a romance. Dual POVs. Fun storyline with just the right amount of spice 🌶️ 🌶️
I adored Abbie’s fun personality - she was true to herself and I loved that. The book has themes of mental health and anxiety - Aidan is such an amazing support for her during her struggles. The secondary characters added such a great vibe to the book. I can’t wait to read best friend, Indie’s, story 😍
Highly recommend this super cute romance. Perfect for a summer read. ⭐️4.5 rounded up to 5
This is the debut book by this author and surprisingly, it was so good! Aiden and Abbie are undoubtedly my new favorite couple.
Abbie's personality enchanted me, not just because we both like Pokémon, but because she's a character you can identify with from the moment you start reading, she's one of those characters you grow fond of because of how beautiful she is, the author portrayed her anxiety so well and showed how she overcame it. As for Aiden, oh Aiden, he's grumpy only with her. It's because he feels attracted to her, but company policies and his fear of losing the hard earned job (he's the vice president of the company) prevent him from acting on it. The twist is that the day before they found out they work together, they had a chance encounter in a park like regular people, they liked each other but didn't exchange numbers. While I understand Aiden's perspective, it was clear to me that they would make a great couple, as I read their povs, I realized how much he cared for her and the trip to Los Angeles and everything he did for her melted my heart.
I loved this couple, the way he supports her in facing everything, how he handled her anxiety so beautifully. Honestly, I wish someone would treat me as kindly as he treats her. However, I won't give it a perfect rating because towards the end, they threw in some drama related to communication issues. Although I saw it coming, it made me rethink everything but in the end, everyone was happy, and Aiden redeemed himself with a grand gesture.
📌 I received an e-arc, and this is my honest opinion/review of it.

This was sweet, spicy, at times angsty romance that was just a whole lot of fun to read Easy-to-follow storyline with vivid characters that I resonated with on so many levels Banter - Humor - Heartache - Smexy Some events were easy to foresee but the way the resolutions were believable
Abbie was a walking ball of "what ifs" and the author did a great job of allowing me to feel and be a part of each scenario without it weighing me down - if that makes sense And her BFF - Every girl needs that kind of support in her corner I enjoyed watching Abbie grow, even though some of the baby steps were forced she did it. And yeah, I was pretty darn proud of her
Aiden had spent his childhood sacrificing and caring for his family and he had no intention of not continuing to do so. Nothing and no one would get in the way of ensuring his position and in turn his family's happiness. Except maybe the ray of sunshine that brightened his every day
These two complimented each other so well. The scene at the convention. How Aiden played along with Abbie's costume choices. The diner Just so many little moments that together added so much to their romance
Oh god this whole book is such a major green flag. This man, the mmc is the greenest flag you can find. Talks his emotions, understands or at least tries to understand his girl the best. You can never have a miscommunication troupe with him. I mean there were a lot of scenes where I thought like “oh no miscommunication alert” but no, this man talked it out before anything could go wrong. This book also showed the 2 sides of families. How Abs’ bad family has affected her mental health and also how Aiden’s green flag family turned him into a green flag too. Not only them , but Abs’ friends- Indie and Emergency and also Jake and Ethan were a green flag. This book must be greenest flag book to read 🥹. It was such a comfort read for me, that I was supposed to arc read it but took my time to fully devour the book.
Also ps : but Indie is such a emotion disgust from “Inside Out” she is probably my most fev character from this book. And also I see alot of potential between Claire and her bestfriend I hope they get a book too.
This is Violet K. Avery’s debut novel and it was amazing! Everything from the storyline, the characters and the spice. The MMC is Aiden Sullivan 36 year old VP of the company, the FMC is Abigail Summers 25 year old executive assistant to Aiden. This is an age gap, forbidden/office romance with mental health rep. Once you start reading you won’t want to put it down.
Thank you to Chaotic Creatives and author Violet K. Avery for the opportunity to ARC read this book.
Perfect little summer read!!!! I truly love how much each character grew in this. Aiden, a family focused VP who has never given himself a chance to love. Abbie, an anxiety ridden girl with precious family trauma and was afraid to let anyone in.
I love that anxiety and mental health was brought into this! It’s never talked about enough.
This is the first book I have read by Violet Avery and I was very happy I did! I loved Abbie right off the bat, with her purple hair and free spirit, and empathized with her anxiety and depression. Aiden, on the other hand, was rigid and strict, having had to grow up early to take care of his family. He was still doing this now at the age of 36.
Aiden and Abbie were the best mix of perfect! Their differences blended together to fill in the cracks of their souls to make each other whole. Abbie brought light and fun into Aiden's work-obsessed world whether by dressing up in Pokemon cosplay or just bringing laughter and smiles to his face. He had never been happier. Aiden defends Abbie when she is attacked by her horrible mother and Aiden's arms can bring Abbie calm that no medication could ever obtain.
These two young lovers have the obstacle of working together where workplace relationships are forbidden. So they must keep their relationship secret. Odds are it will all blow up in their face. I was rooting for them the whole time and it was a wonderful ending! I only wish there was an epilogue!! Thank you Wordsmith Publicity!
Tropes: Opposites attract, Age gap, Boss/employee relationship Mental Health rep- anxiety (FMC), Pokemon and cosplay, Dual POV, Plus Size FMC
I am a sucker for boos/assistant romancs and this one was no different! I loved this one. Such a cute story. I thought that this one had a more realistic way of the characters falling for each other as well, which is always appreciated.
This tells the story of Abbie and Aiden, who meet one weekend in a park, learn very little about each other, and then a few days later, realize that Aiden is Abbie’s new boss. They had instant attraction but knew it was wrong. They do everything in their power to avoid said attraction, but there are some things you just can’t avoid!
My least favorite part of this book as I read a review before starting that made me dread a part in this book (I won’t put it in here to not give others that experience). In the end, it was not at all what I expected. But, this made me feel like I was wiring for the other shoe to drop the entire book which was not ideal. However, this was a self-inflicted issue, and no fault of the book!
I also need to give props to the book bc the main character has the same name as me, as well as many similar interests(pokemon), and also struggles(being plus-sized and anxiety and some other things). I thought these things were handled beautifully and I enjoyed reading this book!
In all, I loved this book and look forward to this author publishing more in the future! I was given an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to the author and Chaotic Creative Influencers.
Thank you to violet K. Avery for allowing me to be an arc reader for not as advertised in exchange for an honest review!
With this being an honest review I will say I wished it would’ve kept me hooked more than it did. There was lots of spice which I loved but I did find myself getting bored quite often.
I loved the story and the plot of the booked but I felt there could’ve been a lot more potential towards the romance between a boss and employee and forbidden romance.
I also found there to be very little dialog between characters and I feel that’s why I was getting quite bored with the story. Everyone is different in what they enjoy in a story but me personally, there is such thing as too much inner dialog.
The author spent too much time writing how a character was acting or thinking to the point where I forgot what they were talking about. Or there would be like 2-3 pages with absolutely no dialog between characters (which is fine if setting a scene but this was in the middle of a talking scene).
Another point I didn’t really enjoy is the fact they start as complete strangers who meet in a park for 5 minutes and then he becomes her boss and all of a sudden they are infatuated with one another. Just not something I’m into is all.
Once again thank you for allowing me to be an arc for Not As Advertised.
Aiden is super young and already the boss of bosses 👑 at his big job. He's got a fancy new job in a new place 🏢 and needs to be extra careful because it's a big deal. Abbie is his helper at work, and they're both really attracted to each other. 😍 But Aiden knows that falling for Abbie could mess up everything he's worked hard for. 😓
Abbie is super cute with her purple hair 💜, and Aiden can't stop noticing her. They both really like each other, but Aiden is worried that being with Abbie will mess up his important job. Abbie is already feeling stressed out, and now she's also got to deal with having a crush on her boss! 😳
Aiden is always in control, but he loses it 🤯 and lets Abbie go. 💔 Then he panics and tries everything to get her back. 🏃♂️ It’s nice how their story goes from a quick attraction to real love 💕 and a happy ending.
I really liked how Aiden always asked Abbie if it was okay before doing anything, especially because of what she goes through. He was there for her and it was fun to see them fall in love. 🥰
This book is a must-read for fans of office romances and forbidden love stories. It’s a powerful reminder of how love can disrupt even the most carefully planned lives, and how sometimes, following your heart is the bravest thing you can do.
What to Expect: 💐Workplace Romance 💐Age gap 💐Mental Health Rep 💐Boss-Employee 💐Forbidden relationship 💐Forced Proximity 🔸 Aiden and Abbie's love story is absolutely adorable! They seem perfect for each other, and I can especially relate to Abbie's character and her struggles with overthinking and anxiety(although her's was much more intense). Her introverted personality and fear of change are portrayed really well. The scenes at Comic-Con, where they dress up as Pokemon characters, was so much fun, and I love Abbie's passion for Pokemon and manga. The book also handles a lot of mental health representation, so I would advise checking the trigger warnings⚠️ before diving in. 🔸 Aiden's understanding and support for Abbie's issues are so heartwarming, but I hated him at one point and I felt like he didn't do enough groveling, but the explanation for his stupidity was given, so I guess it's fine. Despite that, the book is an overall heartwarming and sweet love story, with a focus on mental health. The spice was just what I needed and Aiden was the complete opposite in bed🤤
Aiden has worked hard to achieve the success he has when it comes to his career, so he doesn’t want to do anything to jeopardize it as he has other people depending on him as well. The one surprise he never saw coming was his feelings for his executive assistant as she should be off limits for multiple reasons.
The curveballs that life keeping throwing at Abbie does add some tension, but she perseveres and makes the best of every situation. Not only does she have concerns about her job as Aiden’s executive assistant but getting involved with her boss will not end well but some rewards just might be worth the risk.
I really enjoyed the characters of Aiden and Abbie as they both had their struggles, but they didn’t let them define them. Even though they had some setbacks along the way they were there for each other and helped each other pursue their dreams both when it came to love and life.
work place romance age gap mental health close proximity secret relationship
Abbie's anxiety was contagious. From the first meeting on, I was right there with her. She is not one for change and she kind of get swept up into a big change. She is a bit quirky but I really liked her. She made not like change but she is not one to shirk her duties. She is a hard worker. She worked through her difficulties. Aiden was there to support her. Dating the boss can stressful and helpful.
Aiden has a lot on his shoulders. He made himself the main support for his mother and sisters. They struggled when he was younger and wants more for them. He is ambitious and tends to be a workaholic. Abbie turned him around.
there is a 3rd act breakup did not detract from the overall story. It was handled well. This was a good debut story,
First of all let me say that for a debut novel this was so good !!! The writing really got me into the story and let me understand the characters Also I think one of the important thing is that the tropes in this book are usually not my fav, workplace romance is one of the setting that I like the least (don’t ask me why I literally don’t know) and I’m a big slow burn lover but Violet just made it work !!
The important topics mentioned went straight to my heart and helped me connect to the characters even more. I just got to understand why Aiden and Abbie reacted the way they did and I can’t not love them way despite their flaws. The two of them were ADORABLE together and the way Indie and Emery were the bestest friends was so heartwarming.
I can’t wait to see how the rest of the series goes 🫶🏼🫶🏼
This is a debit from this author, and my word, she is definitely a name to look out for in the future. Aiden has a new job, new city, and a new company, while being the youngest VP in Appeal Medias history, and Abbie received an unexpected promotion, and become his executive assistant. Can they ignore the attraction between them? This is a well written story which is an emotional roller coaster, with family, friendships, forced proximity, workplace romance, making choices, secret relationship, an age gap, humor, witty banter, undeniable chemistry, and love, which leads to an entertaining, sweet, and spicy addictive page turner. I look forward to reading more from this author whose work I recommend.
I was lucky enough to receive an ARC for this book, and I was so excited to dive in.
Let me tell you... I related to Abbie in a seriously scary amount of ways 😅 Anxiety filled girl struggling with her dreams and she's pokemon obsessed? Violet, did you have a camera on me or something ?? The fact that her pet was even named after a pokemon... As someone with a pet named after a pokemon too, I felt seen 🤣
I really enjoyed this story, Abbie and Aiden were super cute together. Clearly, I saw myself in Abbie and it was really refreshing being able to relate so deeply to a character. It was lovely to see their happily ever after, and there was the perfect amount of spice.
When I first started this book I almost DNF. However I must admit I'm happy I kept going because I very much enjoyed reading this! Getting to learn more about Aiden and Abigail's life and character just made me love them as MCs. The unintentional parentification of Aiden that shaped his view on life was so realistic! His whole life revolved around his family and their needs, their wants, their happiness that his took a backseat. And Abigail, I could relate to the extreme anxiety and how that makes you feel! I very much enjoyed this book and I really would have regretted it if I had stopped. And the spiciness though little was wow. Aiden check me any time! 😂
What an Amazing debut novel by Violet K. Avery and I can't wait to read more from Violet!!! I really enjoyed the characters of Aiden and Abbie as they both had their hardships, but they didn’t let that define them. It was a perfect balance of friendships, family emotions, love , spice, responsibilities and HEA. Overall, I Loved it and it's a Perfect Summer read!!

Aiden our workaholic Mac, head strong, a matter of fact kind person, pushing on the grumpy side. He leaves his family and friends behind at his himetown to join a new company that he worked hard to get to. His executive assistant as an emergency where she has to stop working for him for the time being. But she has back up. Abbie. The young lady he met at the park. She’s likes regular schedule non veering of course. When her best friend needs her she is reluctant to take over her position. But sipucks it up and does it. What could go wrong?
Omg this was a cute office romance, loved it after the week I had. Anyways.. this just helped take my mind off things for a bit.
I enjoyed the story. Sometimes it was hard to read because the FMC does struggle with mental health issues (read the trigger warning). However, I think that real-ness enhances the overall story. This is not a sit down and read in one go book. I put it down, thought about it and picked it up again. Overall it was a worthwhile and sweet read.
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Aiden is ready to shake the world, new job, new city, youngest VP in the new company. He has everything going for him, but he his attracted to his personal assistant. The one he met at the park over the weekend before he knew that she would be working for him. Will they take to the next level. The attraction is palpable and intense. Great beginning for this new author.
This is a perfect fit for readers who crave a romantic and emotional journey, exploring themes of self-discovery, forbidden love, and the complexities of relationships, with a strong focus on character development and a slow-burn romance that will keep them hooked until the very end.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ What an amazing debut release 💕 I loved all the characters in this book from the FMC and MMC to the side character besties. Mental health is a major part throughout the book and seeing the representation was refreshing. Not to mention the growth and process the characters go through. Special shout out to the besties, Indie and Emery, for always having Abbie’s back but also pushing her when it’s needed
This was a cute read! I enjoyed diving into Aidan and Abigail's story. Aidan and Abigail try to avoid one another but seamlessly seem to come together. He was the perfect "book boyfriend". The was he was patient with Abigail and tried his best to accommodate her needs was very endearing.
