I know for sure when I read a Bailey West book, I'm going to get some drama between the main characters before they find love. Strong supportive families, some scriptures that I will need to go back and reread later, and my faith renewed. 💖 She just has a way of giving us the word without it being preachy. Now don't get me wrong, this ain't a Christian novel, but God is all up and through here!
Zec was devastated when his injury sidelined his career. Who is he without basketball? After going through the motions of grief, he found his focus with community activism and mentoring. It became his passion, and he was praised for all he did in the community. He is a good guy, although a bit controlling when it comes to the gala that is near and dear to his heart.
Billye, raised by fierce women, with a silver spoon in her mouth. She is a boss, that has top tier business acumen that has her revered in the business world. However, she was brash, and outspoken, which sometimes leaves a sour taste in others' mouths.
When Zec met Billye, it was a straight knock down drag out, at their meeting. They both left hating the other, and wondering how they would ever work together. Zec challenged Billye in ways no other person had the guts to do, and it infuriated her. Billye was petty, and confrontational toward Zec during his meeting, to prove a point; and he was ready to strangle her.
After a crisis happens, and they need to work together to save the gala, they take the time to get to know one another. Eyes are opened, walls come down, hearts are accepting, and the sparks are flying. These two were magic. Once they got over themselves, they were tethered together, and needed the energy, love, and support of the other to survive. It was beautiful to watch unfold. I loved catching up with characters from her other reads, and how they were weaved into this story. Amazing job ma'am. Loved it so much! 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
