I started this book on the plane going to Ireland and finished it while back home in Philly. I read this in hopes that I would also find myself a nice Irish man 😂 So how dare Cordelia live out MY dream of finding an Irish man.
I thought the story was cute and the setting was perfect. I enjoyed Cordelia and Niall together, but I had to knock it down a star because I am a hardcore hater of quick love. I was not expecting the proposal and them saying “I love you” and I cringed hard at that. Also, the epilogue was most certainly not an epilogue. It literally was the day after the last chapter ended lol I needed a better epilogue than that!! Other than that, I enjoyed everything else. The writing was good and I loved the side characters.

"The Irish Goodbye" by Amy Ewing is a wonderful, cute, emotional book! I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. While it can be frilly and fun at times, it also has a lot of mature, serious undertones to it. It has a lot to say about grief and moving on, about loss and second chances (in love AND in life). I enjoyed the main female character, Cordelia, who lives in New York City and jumps at the chance to flee to Inishmore, Ireland for a summer gig so she can reconnect to her life and soul after the loss of her father. I also loved Niall, a grumpy chef who has had his life and everything in it snatched from under him after multiple simultaneous heartbreaks at the hands of the same person. At first, you really don't like Niall at all. He is brusk, curt, and a bit of a jerk, but second chances are such that his grumpiness is explained away, so you see his point of view and come to understand what made him standoffish and made him have his walls up so high. You feel for both of them. Niall's world has crashed down around him, and he must heal from his losses. Cordelia, who has a lot of internet success with her photography, feels disconnected and untethered after her dad's death. As they embark on their own healing journeys, they find solace in each other where they once saw only the worst in one another. Cordelia and Niall also rediscover their passion and love for photography and cooking, respectively, as they fall in love with each other. There's quite a lot of complexity in this book! The romance aspect takes its time to get going, but I enjoyed Cordelia and Niall's journey from enemies to lovers. It's sweet, and often bittersweet, but frequently swoon-worthy. The travel and wanderlust aspects here are excellent as well. You really get the sense of the community of Inishmore and the country of Ireland, from the people to the weather to the customs and connections. All of the secondary characters are well-written and don't feel like random characters who come and go as they please. They are integral to the plot and to Niall and Cordelia's stories. A wonderful little book that I encourage you to read!

Another promising romance that unfortunately went downhill for me. But I think if you're looking for a story to settle a sense of wanderlust, this is a good option. Delivering a fill of Irish folklore, history, and local dialect, the setting of Inishmore was super lovely.
With a grumpy attitude resulting in a broken camera, I really liked the initial hostility between Cordelia and Niall, too. But it was short lived. The hate towards one another was resolved rather quickly, resulting in an overly fast timeline with a questionable romantic development.
In a nutshell, it crammed in a lot of emotions and conflicts for two characters that hardly knew each other. I needed more time spent with Cordelia and Niall as a couple. The intensity of their feelings, especially after a mere one month together, was a little ridiculous and unbelievable for me.

I could be wrong, but I tagged this romance as ‘new adult’ because I thought the target audience was early twenty-year-olds. IOWs, not me.
I enjoyed the small village vibes, which included an enemy to lover trope. What I did not care for was the repeated use of the F-bomb by various characters including an 80-something. I got the feeling the author had a checklist to include a person of every lifestyle. Oh, and the Big Misunderstanding.
There were some pleasant moments, but not enough to warrant beyond two stars.

One last new rom-com before I cleanse the palate. And it’s the perfect modern rom-com setup: She’s a street photographer from NYC spending a summer at a cottage in a small Irish village, as one does. He’s a chef who lost his relationship and restaurant in Dublin and has come home to said small Irish village. He’s an asshole but really he’s just hurt. It’s the kind of book where each character ends up crying at the end of their second chapter. I do enjoy 2 people in pain finding each other.
This is fine. I feel like I’m being generous rounding it up, but it’s a cotton-candy of a novel. Nothing of substance here, yet it’s not like it’s awful. Ringing endorsement, that.
Mostly very surface-level, generic, cliched shit. Had potential and once again I find myself bothered by third-person past tense. The supporting cast was fun at least.

This is such a cozy endearing rom com!! I was immediately drawn to Cordelia and her story, she is feeling a little lost in life and decides on a last minute trip to a small town in Ireland to shake herself out of her funk. Niall is also lost, he is nursing the loss of his big dream and also a broken heart.
What unfolds is a summer of healing for them both, together they learn what it truly means to be happy again, to trust again and to enjoy their passions. Along with the eclectic town of Inishmore island and it's incredible cast of characters!
This is a must read that will make you feel like you are wrapped up in a warm, cozy Irish hug!!

I listened to the audiobook of this and really enjoyed it! I rated it 4 stars due to it having the third act breakup trope which I typically do not enjoy. I loved Cordelia and Niall’s relationship so much he’s the absolute sweetest to her!

After reading the synopsis I knew I wanted to read this book! I actually loved the narrator’s of the audiobook, it was so good! I loved the dual POV. The only thing I didn’t like was third act breakup (just a personal thing) Enemies to lovers, found family, small town.

I am a complete sucker for a relatable FMC, strong side characters, and founded family books and The Irish Goodbye delivers!
Listening to the audiobook, and being an Irish name, I´m not sure of how her name is written, but the 80 yo firecracker neighbor was like EPIC! I loved every single one of her actions, dialogues, and so on. You can really measure the ability of a writer when there are side characters like this.
The plot itself was enjoyable, nothing too heavy, even though both the protagonists had to deal with pretty big trauma in the past.
Also, I started it thinking it was a cute romance, and it was, don´t get me wrong, but around 60% of the spice hits and it was ON POINT! I loved it!
I´m so happy to have listened to it instead of reading it since the audiobook production was flawless and the voice actor, with his thick Irish accent, was sooooo hot, helping a lot to deliver Niall´s personality.
Ps. What name is Cordelia? I could just picture a long lost Wednesday Addams cousin, and not a sweet blond New York girl (but that it may be just me)

this was a fun romance that also contained many mature & serious topics- second chances, grief, family problems and moving on. the romance took awhile to get going but once it did, I really enjoyed the enemies to lovers arc!
the first kiss scene and some of the little moments had me cringing but it didn’t take too much away. the irish goodbye is very comparable to the catch by amy lea, just a bit heavier.
I want to cozy up with all of these side characters & drink a cup of tea with them. thank you dreamscape media for an advanced listening copy 🇮🇪 3.5 stars!

(Audiobook!) Did I only listen to this book because it was set in Ireland and the main guy’s name was Niall? Possibly. But I still had a fine time and it was an easy listen!

I went into this book not expecting much and ended up loving it! Watch how this is my favorite book from May! I really enjoyed reading how Cordelia decides to take a job staying at a cottage in Ireland for the summer. Cordelia and Niall’s meet cute was hilarious! They met by Niall bumping into Cordelia and Cordelia dropping and breaking her late father’s camera. Soon the two of them are meeting everywhere in the small town of Inishmore. I liked that they are able to work through their differences and actually get to know one another deeper and create a connection. Their chemistry was everything, and I cracked up at how they literally share their first kiss with everyone in the village lol! I was not expecting this book to be spicy so it was a pleasant surprise getting to those scenes! I really liked that for the most part the characters communicated through their relationship. It made the story very realistic. We read about hardships and stuggles and I am impressed by how well the author captured it so beautifully. I loved the ending and definitely recommend this book to everyone! I’m looking forward to reading books from this author!

This book gave me warm fuzzy feelings 🥰
Absolutely fell in love!
Inishmore, Ireland is a beautiful location to set this small town romance. Did I look up the place when it was mentioned to see if I could visit? Yes I did. Ewing did a wonderful job capturing Inishmore’s ancient beauty & cozy atmosphere.
But I didn’t just love the setting. I fell in love with Cordelia, Niall & all the townspeople. I felt the main characters were relatable. Both are navigating life after loss & find happiness with each other. They had a meet cute gone wrong first encounter which made their love story even sweeter! I felt I really knew the characters by the end.
Niall & Cordelia are a slow burn but watching their dislike turn into love was worth it. The hike they took together was when I started falling. I mean *swoon* Plus the spice was super unexpected. The kitchen scene was 🥵
The story has a nice blend of heart & humor. I had to stop myself from laughing while listening in public 🤭
I’m so happy I picked this up. It’s a summer romance set in Ireland. You’re gonna love it. Highly recommend the audiobook!!!

DNF with less than 100 pages left. I literally never DNF books but this writing was sooo poor 😭😭 there was no character development or leadup so the two lovers did nothing for me. The storyline was barely there. It felt like it was written by an eight grader so genuinely.

A truly poignant look at getting over loss. If you were fully stuck in grief would finding a new love or changing your location temporarily help? Would leaving New York where all of your memories live and going to a small island in Ireland jolt you out of your grief? Toss in a hate at first sight hot Irishman, gorgeous vistas, unique townspeople who are distinct characters and spending 3 months in a gorgeous cottage and you just might be onto something! At least, Cordelia, our main character thinks she might be! The plot is beautifully woven story of strength, love, memories and starting over with a bit of steamy bedroom antics to warm you up while you read! I have to say that this is my first book by this author, but it definitely won't be my last! The audiobook was done fabulously with dual narration, so you really felt like you were getting inside the head of both Cordelia and Niall, the frustratingly hot Irishman that we hate on sight! I highly recommend that you grab this audio and make it a must listen if you are an audio lover like me, but if not then you should absolutely grab the book as it vividly paints the landscape as well as the interactions of the characters with the plot!

This was a really fun, dual POV, enemies to lovers, small Irish island vacation romance between a New York City photographer still grieving her dead father and needing some inspiration and a chef recently cheated on and kicked out of his Dublin restaurant before it could even open.
Together with a cast of great secondary characters, Cordelia and Niall form a reluctant friendship that leads to a hot summer affair neither wants to see end. I enjoyed this one sooo much and highly recommend it for fans of books like Off the map, Last call at the local or the movie Leap year!
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early digital copy of this latest from a new to me author. I'm excited to read more by Amy Ewing and as someone with Irish heritage, reading this book made me want to go back to Ireland as soon as possible!

This one I bought thinking I would read it right away, and then it sat on my bookshelf for months. *hides face* I did try to read it awhile ago, but wasn't feeling it so put it aside.
When my book club chose this month's theme – a book set outside the US – I decided to give this one another try, but this time on audio.
I didn't mind the narrators, although their performances of some of the side characters varied quite a lot from each other which was a bit irritating. Also, this is more about the audiobook production, but the sound varied so much that it sometimes made it difficult to listen to. Some voices would be so soft that I'd need to turn the volume up but then the next sentence said by another character would be at full volume so it blasted my ears. So that was quite annoying.
The story itself was okay. I liked the beginning but as the story went on, things just got too cheesy and predictable for me. Some of the characters' actions didn't make sense to me. I wish these two grown adults would have just talked about their feelings and the options for the relationship and what each of them wanted, instead of just making decisions based on assumptions and then being miserable.
So yea, unfortunately not the book for me.

Also, this is more about the audiobook production, but the sound varied so much that it sometimes made it difficult to listen to. Some voices would be so soft that I'd need to turn the volume up but then the next sentence said by another character would be at full volume so it blasted my ears. So that was quite annoying.
The story itself was okay. I liked the beginning but as the story went on, things just got too cheesy and predictable for me. Some of the characters' actions didn't make sense to me. I wish these two grown adults would have just talked about their feelings and the options for the relationship and what each of them wanted, instead of just making decisions based on assumptions and then being miserable.
So yea, unfortunately not the book for me.

Okay. Let’s just start that the first 85% of this book was awesome. There was a story and found family and real family and Romance. And Ireland. Honestly I couldn’t ask for more.
But those last 15% just felt rushed.
Let’s back up a bit. I liked Cordelia and Niall. I liked their relationship. But the proposal? Felt way too much. And I was kind of happy Cordelia had a reason to say no. And then after the heartbreak and the time apart instead of just holding each other they just right back to sex? Just didn’t feel right. They haven’t seen each other in months. I wished they just held each other through the night and talked about the time apart. the sex scene just made it feel less.
And the epilogue. There is a reason they are set months/years later because you can look and see how the future turned out. We kind of missed out on that in this one.
Overall, it’s cute, it will make you book your Ireland trip and it will make your heart bit faster. It just didn’t make me cry

Bought this on a whim and I am so happy I did! This was a perfect summer read, light-hearted but still with some touching characters and backstories. This story has your rooting for Cordie and Niall within pages - both as a couple but also on their own journeys and both their "issues" with their parents are so relatable. Every character that appeared in this was an instant favourite (except for one) and if this book does not make you wish for a lovely island summer vacation then I don't know what will.

Cordelia is struggling to pick her life back after after the sudden death of her father. Niall was hurt in love, and a business venture. Cordelia decides to apply for a summer job taking care of a little cottage in Inishmore, as a way to step out of New York and try and find her footing again. Niall returns to his parents' house and pub in Inishmor. Tensions go back and forth, with a sweet story unravelling.

Oh this story started off well, it had me with a smile on my face but then it was all so chaotic that I completely lost track. First: the narrators that although it was hard for me to get the rhythm of the male narrator because his accent was very strong and when he did the other voices almost indistinguishable from each other, I left the book for a while and then I listened to again and let's say that little by little I got the rhythm, I loved the female narrator, doing two accents plus all the other voices at the same time was good to listen to, I understand her perfectly and there were no problems. Now with the story, it had everything to make me like it, and it really started well, the relationship between Cordelia and Niall I liked but then it lost a lot of impulse and because it was almost over I kept listening to it so as not to be left with questions. If you like drama this book could be for you, unfortunately for me it was not.

"The Irish Goodbye" by Amy Ewing is a light, fluffy read that, while enjoyable in parts, lacks the depth I was hoping for. The plot is engaging and not too heavy, despite both protagonists dealing with significant past traumas. Amy Ewing beautifully captures the essence of Inishmore and its residents, with vivid descriptions that truly bring the scenery to life. The warmth and joy of the setting are palpable, and it's one of the highlights of the book.
However, the emotional connection between Cordelia and Niall felt underdeveloped. Their relationship progresses rapidly, almost from 0 to 100, leaving little room for a genuine bond to form. This rush led to a third-act breakup that felt jarring rather than impactful. Cordelia's character, while likeable, sometimes came across as emotionally immature, especially with her fixation on photography and social media—a connection that felt more superficial than meaningful.
Overall, "The Irish Goodbye" is a cute concept with charming moments, but it falls short in terms of character development and believability. The Irish setting helps elevate the story, but it also feels like a crutch, relying too heavily on the evocative imagery rather than solid storytelling. The Irish Goodbye is a feel-good romance that deals with grief and loss.
Cordelia is mourning the loss of her father and finding herself without her usual knack for creativity in her career. To reset herself, she travels to Inishmore Island to stay in a cottage for 3 months and keep an eye on a local’s grandmother while she stays.
Amy Ewing did a lovely job on the descriptions of Inishmore and the residents, I really felt the warmth and joy emanating from them. The imagery of the scenery was so evocative, this could be the world’s best travel advertisement! Not to mention Róisín was an absolute delight, she was that sassy, gritty grandma we all need in our lives.
Where this lost me was the lack of emotional connection between Cordelia and Niall. Although they spoke of their connection and the characters themselves were well developed, I think the novel lacked some scenes to build that bond between them. They seemed to go from 0 to 100 and it felt so rushed that the third act breakup basically gave me whiplash.

Admittedly, I could not get back into reading for so long. This book helped to an extent although my rating and review would say different.
The thing is, this book as so many elements I like: being abroad, cute small town romance, hot chef man, etc. However, it was a little boring. I couldn’t get so into the book until about a third in and even then, I wasn’t invested. I think the plot and relationship development both lacked some depth and could’ve been explored and expanded. It would’ve made even the quick pace romance more believable cause these two really went fast.
But tbh the smut was nice (lol).
I did relate heavily to Cordelia’s feelings towards being lost, homesick, and sad while also happy and excited being abroad. I am currently abroad and completely understand that mess of feelings. Maybe that’s why I stuck with this book.
I adored listening to the Irish accents in the audiobook, though! As a whole, this book is a good listen.
