Schlieffen Alternate: WWI Alternate Series, Book 1 – An Alternate History (Uchronie) of World War I

Rate this book
Europe, August 1914.

The World explode into war as Austro-Hungary declares war on Serbia following the assassination of the heir to the throne, Archduke Franz Ferdinand. Russia follows suit and mobilizes, while Germany supports its ally and declares war on Russia. France then joins the war as it is Russia’s ally.

The British intervene when the Germans execute their Schlieffen Plan and attack through Belgium to outflank the French defenses. And then war explodes everywhere. The Austro-Hungarian attack in Serbia and Galicia, the Russians invade Prussia, and the Germans smash into France. In the Middle East, the Ottoman Empire declares for the Central Power, while Italy stays neutral.

The German Army is unstoppable and closes in on Paris as the Allies retreat in disarray all along the front. The fate of the World hangs in the balance as a big battle looms for Paris. The battle is fought and ends in a Germany victory, opening the entire French frontline to invasion. The French capital is occupied, and things do not look good for the Entente Powers in the West.

However, no gains come without giving something away. While the German Army is busy conquering the French and beating the British Expeditionary Force around, the Russians storm Prussia and roll over the German 8th Army. The Reich has all of its remaining troops fighting in the West and nothing fresh to put in front of the Russian steamroller. Koenigsberg fall and the Austro-Hungarians fail before Belgrade and in Galicia. Something will have to be done, or else Berlin will fall to the Russian Imperial forces.

This is the story of a war that might have been.

Thought provoking.

I have always been a fan of alternate history as just a couple of different discisions or timings can change the fate of the world. So I really enjoyed this book and will continue the series and read some of the authors other titles as his writing is well paced and believable.

Great story, horrible writing

I was intrigued by the idea but the lack of editing and an inexcusable number of simp!e spelling errors made it very tempting to set this book aside

Great new series!

Looking forward to this alt. Not many authors use wwi, most go to ww2. This a fun read and it takes some thinking to see where the alt part comes in. Good job dude!

France again, and Austria Hungary eager for war but not up to it..

Outstanding first volume about WWI. Not only does Max give us the picture of war BUT he humanized it by presenting characters from both sides of the conflict. Great job!!!!

Fun Spin

I like the authors blend of generals and privates. He makes some fun alternatives seem plausible. Thanks for the book.
