Rate this book
Wesley is so busy running his family’s Amish market during the holidays, he barely has time for Liesl, the young woman he’s been courting for years. Jenny, still healing after a painful breakup, welcomes the distraction of working at the market. She soon realizes Wesley is everything she ever dreamed a man could be. But how can Jenny even think about romance with the man Liesl expects to marry? But Liesl’s own feelings are more complicated than she’s willing to admit. With humor, faith, and a little help from their friends in the community, everyone might just find what their hearts are looking for this Christmas at the Amish market.

What a charming story and I adore the cover! I'd love to add Amish Christmas books by Shelley Shepard Gray to my Christmas reading list!🎄💓

This story centers around Wesley Raber of Raber's Amish Market in Walden, Ohio. The store is especially busy in December and with his father recovering from a health scare, Wesley is busy running the family business with little time for Liesl his girlfriend. Liesl asked her aunt Jenny to help at the market and Jenny happily agrees so she can take her mind off of her recent breakup.

Uh oh, sparks start flying between Wesley and Jenny! But Wesley and Liesl have been together for a long time and people think they're a perfect couple.

At first, Liesl bugged me a little bit. I felt she was somewhat self-centered and annoying, but I come to like her as much as the rest of the cast. "Christmas at the Amish Market" is a story about family, tradition, love, faith, and the spirit of Christmas. This is a pleasant and clean holiday romance with Cincinnati Chili recipe at the end of the book.

Thank you Hallmark Publishing and Netgalley for this DRC.

A charming and very easy to read story with contrasting characters that draw you in. Wesley's days are guided by guilt and worry over the responsibility of maintaining the family business, while Liesl is carefree and confident but not very empathetic to Wesley's situation. They seem to hold opposing viewpoints on some important matters and I wondered if they could find a way to compromise and help each other attain their desired outcomes. I think you secretly root for the personality you identify with the most and hope that they will find the good and work to better the relationship for themselves and for their partner.

There were a few small things I didn't like and one of those is the directness of the plot. It's an Amish romance, so you know all will come together in a happy way, yet this romance story is very straightforward. You know early on exactly how this will play out, and it almost caused me to stop reading. I wish there had been a more altogether gradual reveal and more distressing tension in certain decisions.

A sweet romance about finding your true self and understanding what you truly want and need in life and love.

This novel was full of the Christmas Spirit. Everything drew me in from the beautiful cover, the delightful Amish Christmas story that graced the pages to the recipe for Cincinnati Chili at the end of the book. I felt like the characters embraced me as I read the book. I thought the book was romantic, Christmassy, entertaining, original and easy to read. The Author has long been a favorite and I’m never disappointed with any of her books that I’ve read.

Liesl Fisher and Wesley Raber are an Amish couple that have been dating for years. Something keeps Wesley from proposing to Liesl although he loves her. They don’t get to spend a lot of time together because Wesley is busy managing his parents market store and Liesl is a busy seamstress. The Christmas season is very busy at the market and Wesley needs to hire a new assistant to help out during the holidays. Liesl’s Aunt is available to help at the market but Wesley is expecting an older woman. Aunt Jenny Kurtz isn’t an older woman and she’s beautiful and the two will be spending a lot of time together. What was Liesl thinking when she arranged for her Aunt to help her boyfriend at his Amish Market during the Christmas shopping rush?

I recommend this book to readers of Amish Fiction. If you enjoy Hallmark movies you will love this book. It’s release date is 11/8/22.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions expressed here are my own.

This was such a sweet Amish Romance! Add in the magic of the holiday and it was a fantastic read!!
Liesl and Wesley are a young Amish couple that have been courting for a while. When Wesley's dad falls ill he has to take over work at their store leaving little time for his relationship. Liesl suggests her aunt Jenny helping out at the store to give the young couple more time together. This set in to motion...the happily ever afters, but maybe not the ones they were expecting!
Would recommend this book to lovers of Amish romance!
I received an arc of this book in exchange for a honest review. I would like to thank netgalley, the author Shelley Shepard Gray, and the publisher for the opportunity to review this book!

Right from the start everything drew me into this story, from the beautifully designed cover to the Christmassy vibe of the book.
A fun Amish Christmas book full of romance and surprises.
Liesl and Wesley have been courting for years, everyone expects them to marry, and they expect it will happen as well. Wesley helps his family to run their Amish Market, it keeps him and his family overwhelmingly busy and tired.
To help Wesley out Liesl suggests her young aunt helps out at the market. Aunt Jenny fresh from a breakup helps and it takes her mind off of things.
I have read so many of this author's books over the years, she has quite a few and they are all equally amazing. She truly writes from the heart and brings these characters to life. Not everything is wonderful all the time but it's realistic and the characters talk things out and offer each other compassion, forgiveness and love.
Realistic daily Amish life is what you'll find in this book. Surprises along the way offer up joy and a chance at a new beginning. An inspiring book full of hope and family values.

CHRISTMAS AT THE AMISH MARKET by Shelley Shepard Gray is a charming Christmas Amish romance which has a young Amish couple who have been courting for years finding love where they least expect it. This is a standalone sweet holiday story and women’s fiction with believable life twists that while predictable is an enjoyable read.

Wesley Raber’s father has had a heart attack and with his mother go to their eldest son’s home to rest and recuperate. Wesley has been running the family Amish market under his father’s watchful eye, but now at the busiest time of the year, he is in charge. He has always put the family market first in his life and now with the added time necessary to run the market his longtime girlfriend, Liesl feels abandoned. Liesl decides to help Wesley by asking her aunt to come to stay and help at the market during December.

Jenny Kurtz is nothing that Wesley was expecting. She is only twenty-six years old and attractive, but Jenny is recovering from a broken heart. Wesley soon discovers Jenny is hard working and very attentive to the customers who all adore her. With long hours working together, they both begin to be attracted to each other, but Wesley is supposed to be Liesl’s boyfriend and Jenny would never hurt her favorite niece for the world, but Liesl has been finding happiness and attention from another and has some major life decisions to make of her own.

I found this Christmas story to be part romance and part women’s fiction due to the realistic problems all the main characters face in this Amish setting. It is not a straight-line romance plot, but has plenty of romance, family traditions, love, and surprises that still leave you with a warm holiday feeling.

I really enjoyed this Amish holiday book!

This is a Clean Amish Christmas Romance. I found this book to be very weird and slow moving. Liesl is courting Wesley in this book, but she thinks she has feelings for someone else. Wesley starts to have feelings for someone else too. I feel the emotional cheating is the same as real cheating, and this book has a lot of emotional cheating going on. I just did not connect with the characters. I am not saying this is a bad book, but I do not think it was a great book for me. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Hallmark Publishing) or author (Shelley Shepard Gray) via NetGalley, so I can give an honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.

Wesley is running his family’s Amish market alone and it is Christmas — a busy, profitable time. No time to court properly but Liesl suggests he hire her Aunt Jenny to help in hopes she can spend more time with Wesley. She forgets to tell him that her “aunt” is only 26.

Jenny is visiting Liesl’s family in hopes it will make a painful breakup better. She hardly expected a job to introduce a man into her life. AND … a man that her niece was courting. And that’s where things get complicated for all involved.

My review …
A Hallmark Movie in a book! What an enjoyable Christmas story! Kindle readers will have a treat with Christmas red chapter headings and a drop cap opening the first paragraphs. (A drop cap is a large letter starting all “My review” segments. The red “A” on this review is the same color as the barn.) See at https://lyndapbookreviews.com/christm....

Okay, the story is a bit predictable but who cares if it is an enjoyable read? What’s not mentioned in the description above is Wesley’s father who ran the store HIS way. But while visiting family, he had a heart attack so Wesley is trying to handle business all by himself. Of course, ahem … with a father who tells him what to do every time they talk by phone like Wesley had not worked there since childhood.

Then Aunt Jenny arrives. You’ll like her. You’ll like Liesl too. This is a “nice” story with “nice” characters. Well, except for some customers who think their time is far more important than anyone else’s.

So grab a cup of hot chocolate, your favorite furry friend or friends, a fleece or velour lap blanket, and snuggle down for a "wunderbar" Christmas read.

I received a complimentary DRC (digital review copy) of “Happily Ever Amish” via NetGalley from the publisher, Hallmark Publishing. A positive review was not required; the opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

I am really enjoying all the Christmas offerings this year. Christmas at the Amish Market finds Wesley running his family's general store while his father recovers from heart surgery. He wants to prove to his parents that he is capable of running the store so his parents can retire. He is way too busy to spend time with his girlfriend, Liesl. Liesl tries to help out by asking her aunt to come and help out with the Christmas rush while she has time off as the Englisher family she is nanny for goes on vacation. Jenny agrees to help out and heads to the Amish District to live with her sister's family and help out while earning some money. Meanwhile Liesl is helping out a local Amish widower with his young daughter. With all these platonic friendships going on, it is no wonder that feelings arise that are totally unexpected.

This was an interesting Christmas Amish story. I loved the premise that sometimes your perfect match is not who you think it will be. This is a clean, Amish romance, but there is a lot of emotional cheating going on. All four characters, Liesl, Wesley, Jenny and Roland struggle with their feelings and whether they are right or not. They also can't believe the other person they care for could possibly care about them. I love stories where young children steal the show and that is exactly what young Lilly does. I enjoyed seeing the characters come to grips with their feelings and solve their problems without hurting each other. There was a lot of Christmas Spirit and family goings on. Christmas at the Amish Market was an enjoyable story that I recommend to those who enjoy Amish and Christian Fiction. It is nice to see so many characters get their happily ever after, especially at Christmas time. Suzie Althens narrates this story and does a wonderful job with the voices, both old and young, male and female. She uses her expression to share the emotions of the story. I recommend this one in either format, especially if you are looking for some good, clean Christmas magic.

I received a free copy of, Christmas at the Amish Market, by Shelley Shepard Gray, from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. The Amish have always fascinated me, they way they live, so very differently then the rest of us. Christmas is such a special time, for the Amish and for us. I really enjoyed this story. Liesl is such a sweet soul, always willing to help others out. Roland, Wesley, Jenny, and little Lilly, round the cast of characters in this book. I really enjoyed this read, and the recipe in the back of the book.

This charming Christmas tale was so enjoyable to listen to as an audio book. The narrator did a nice job and the narration flowed well. The story itself was a fun peek into an Amish community at Christmas time.

The main characters who were dating when the story began, Wesley and Liesl, were a good example of a couple who had lost the original spark of interest that was there when they first decided to court. The romantic attraction they felt for each other as teens years earlier had settled into a dating relationship that was simply expected by everyone around them. It was clear to me from the beginning that neither Wesley or Liesl truly realized how far from love they had moved. I think that neither one understood that what they felt for each other did not compare to what real romantic love would be like, until they began to each feel it for someone else.

I believe that Liesl should have broken things off with Wesley years earlier and followed where her heart was truly leading her instead of trying to force Wesley to match an ideal that she had. However, it probably would have meant that her Aunt Jenny would not have come to town when she did and that would have been a shame, as she was definitely the perfect match for Wesley. I wouldn’t exactly call this a love triangle…perhaps a love square? I had fun listening to it and waiting to see how everything would get straightened out for these characters.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

This is a Hallmark read, a good clean book, although it was predictable from the beginning, at least for me, the journey to the end is enjoyable.
You will probably guess how this is going to turn out, but there are a few twists, and will make you maybe second guess yourself.
I would have loved to go to the Pinery Christmas event, the place sounds magical! We get to see our couples as they interact, but who ends up with whom, even here at this amazing display of secular Christmas displays and lights, including a tree maze!
This read will put you in the holiday spirit! Enjoy!

The romance in this book was very sweet. I liked that there could be a romantic twist even in an Amish romance. The story moved quickly and it was hard to put down.

With that said the book had some serious editing issues. In at least two places the author had the wrong character's name in a sentence. Also, all of the Pennsylvania Dutch words were in italics, which seems to be common in books about the Amish. I generally find it unnecessary but this time it was downright annoying because it seemed like it was done with a find and replace function. Every time the letters "haus" showed up, they were in italics - including every time someone in the book was exhausted.

Five stars for Christmas at the Amish Market by Shelly Shepard Gray. This is a delightful book that will get anyone in the Christmas mood. Liesl and her longtime boyfriend Wesley never seem to have any time together. He is always working at his family store. He is not very romantic either. Perhaps those things are not important because Liesl and Wesley have been together since grade school. Everyone knows they will marry one day. When Wesley’s father is in the hospital Wesley has to take over the store all by himself with the help of only one other clerk. Since Wesley never has time to do anything, Liesl enlists her aunt Jenny to come and work for Wesley. Needless to say Liesl never thought Jenny and Wesley would fall in love. She wasn’t too upset about it because she herself and fallen in love with someone else. Even though the reader knows how the story will end it is fun to follow in the footsteps of the characters.

Thank you Shelly Shepherd Gray for allowing me to be on your launch team for you upcoming Christmas book, Christmas at the Amish market.

Wesley and Liesl had been dating for years, but for some reason Wesley could not seem to ask her to marry him. He was always much too busy running his family’s market especially during the holidays.

When Wesley‘s father had a heart attack and he had to take over the business while his dad healed, liesl suggested that her aunt Jenny could come and help Wesley out at the market. Wesley had no idea that Jenny was young, he just assumed that she was an older lady. Boy was that a surprise.

As always Shelley was able to tie the whole well-written story together with humor, faith in God, and love.

Don’t miss the opportunity to read this beautiful 5-star story which will be released November 8, 2022.

All opinions are mine and I was not required to give a positive review.

I am such a fan of Hallmark novels and movies. I was really excited to read this novel and was very thankful to NetGalley and Hallmark Publishing for the ARC. This novel is everything I love about Hallmark. It is clean, sweet, and very light. It's a romance set within an Amish town and has several Amish characters. One couple is at a crossroad, one character is broken hearted and trying to move on and there is a single father trying his best to raise his young daughter. This is filled with the Christmas spirit and all that Christmas is centered around. I would definitely recommend this and would read it again.

I always enjoy Shelley Shepard Gray’s book and this one did not disappoint.Wesley and Liesl are dating. Wesley is very busy with his family’s market because of his father’s heart attack. After Wesley forgets about a special date, Liesl asks her Aunt Jenny to help Wesley out. She hopes now to have more time for courting and maybe a marriage proposal. In the meantime, Liesl has been going over to Roland’s house. He is a widower with a four year old daughter. She loves hanging out with them. This is a feel good romance book with a lot of feel good moments. Thank you to NetGalley and Hallmark Publishing. This is my own opinion.

I really enjoyed reading this book. The characters were easy to relate to and the story line was interesting. From reading the back cover of the book, I could surmise what was going to happen in the story, but it did not take anything away from my enjoyment of the story. I particularly liked the character of Jenny and her hard work and great attitude.

Thanks so much to the publisher for the arc. The opinions are my own.

Christmas at the Amish Market was such an intriguing read. I had initially picked it up to just pick up more Amish romance, its been a theme of romance that I have been wanting to read a bit more of. I have really fallen in love with the more traditional feeling of their set ups and I went into this book completely blind which delivered in some ways and in other ways I do wish I knew what I was expecting with this one. I did find that this story was fascinating and loved the Christmas theme to the story. But I will say that I wasn't sure how I felt about two couples falling in love with the most unexpected people when they were in a relationship with other people. I know this can be a hit or miss for readers, so know this going into it. Now technically there is no cheating at least not physical, but there is emotional cheating, so be aware of this going in. However, like my dad says unless they are married, its an open court haha so maybe that holds true for Amish romance too??

Overall I had a fun time with this one, it had some poignant charming moments that were so intriguing and definitely love what the author did with this one and curious about her writing and would like to try her out more in the near future.

The perfect book to put you in the Christmas mood. We get to learn more about a family mentioned in the author’s early series, The Secrets of Crittenden County (which I loved!).

Wesley must run his families Amish market during the Christmas rush. He quickly realizes he needs help. His girlfriend suggests her aunt. Much to Wesley’s surprise the aunt is not elderly and questionable sparks start to sizzle.

This book is perfect for the reader who wants all the Hallmark Christmas vibes. Pull up your chair, turn in the Christmas lights, fix your cocoa, and settle in for a beautiful story filled with romance.

Thank you Net Galley and Shelley Shepard Gray for this advanced copy of Christmas At The Amish Market. I was not paid or reimburst for this honest review of this audiobook.

I have always had a facination with the Amish community so when I saw this audiobook was available and we are nearing in on Hallmark Overload of all things Christmas, I thought I would indulge in some easy sweet pleasurable reading. While this book was cute and clean, I really did not find either Liesel or Wesley great characters. I am not sure who we were suppose to cheer for(?) side with (?).
Liesel clearly just wanted to put a ring on her finger, and was to be honest very immature and by no means ready for marriage. She needed to work on herself as a person first, she let Wesley walk all over her and she acted so silly. If I was treated the way she was I would be like, this guy does not love me.
Now, all that to say, Wesley is not a "terrible" guy, he just isn't ready for marriage. He clearly had a lot going on in his life and was consumed by working in his fathers store. He needs to also put pause on life and examine himself and priorities. He was very self centered and I thought he was just plain rude to Lisel. Even if he was not interested in her, he should not have kept leading her on.
When Jenny enters the scene along with Roland for Jenny (again she should know better to clearly throw herself at him and act all innocent....can she really be that sheltered?) it becomes a clear case of emotional affairs occuring.
There was no "tender hearted" cute love story I was expecting, very self centered characters.....definatly did not give me the cup of cocoa and sugar cookie fight feeling I was hoping for.

Another great story by Shelley Shepard Gray. Wesley is busy taking over his family’s market while his father is away recovering. He is overworked putting the market before himself and his girlfriend Liesl. Liesel asks her Aunt Jenny to come and help at the market and she agrees. Throughout this story Jenny, Liesel and Wesley all learn a little more about themselves and what they really want with their lives.
I really enjoyed this story and would love to revisit all of the characters.

I received an ARC of this and all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Fun Read

I love a story that has some of my favorite elements in it, and Christmas at the Amish Market definitely does. It has a Christmas theme, romance, faith, family, forgiveness and great characters. Some are likable, some are not and some are just quirky and fun. While I had a fair idea of what the final outcome would be for Liesl and Wesley, I had no idea how the story would get there. This along with the wonderful story elements kept me turning pages. It is a fun and quick read that can be enjoyed any time of the year and will not disappoint.

Wesley has to oversee his family’s Amish market during the busy Christmas season after his dad suffers a heart attack and it leaves his very little time for courting his girlfriend, Liesl. Liesl makes a suggestion to Wesley about her aunt Jenny helping out to allow them time to spend together. Little did Wesley know that her aunt was not an older woman, but was around the same age as Liesl and very pretty. When Jenny arrives, she realizes that how lucky Liesl is to have a handsome, charming and hard working young man-just what Jenny has always wanted in a boyfriend since she is coming out of relationship that left her broken hearted. Liesl helped out Roland’s wife when she was battling cancer and bedridden and she steps up to the plate once again by helping the widower watch his 4 year old daughter, Lilly, when no one else is available. She becomes fond of the little girl and wants to spend time with the both of them. With Jenny working for Wesley and Liesl helping Roland, Wesley and Liesl begin to question their relationship with each other.

Such an enjoyable book that can be read anytime of the year-not just around Christmas. I found the book to be refreshing and delightful, holding my interest from page one.

All words and opinions are my own. I was given a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley and the publishing for my honest review.

Shelley Shepard Gray brings us Liesl and Wesley. Wesley is in charge of the family store during the busy Christmas time while his family has gone to take care of his father after his health scare. This leaves little time for Wesley to court Liesl. In order to help him out, Liesl brings over her aunt Jenny who is only a few years older than herself. Meanwhile, Liesl is enjoying her time with widow Roland and his daughter. What will the fates have in store for this foursome?

Shelley Shepard Gray brings us a story of love and obligation. Will obligation trump over love, or will love conquer all? Shelley brings you along as we get to see what these four characters do and how they feel. As we learn more about them, we want to know what they are going to do next. I look forward to reading more from this author.

I read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I would like to thank NetGalley and Hallmark Publishing for this privilege.

I always enjoy reading Shelley Shepard Gray books. This was a very enjoyable book and I highly recommend it.

Wesley, Liesl, and her aunt Jenny each have life issues they are trying to overcome. Wesley is in charge of running his family’s market while his dad recovers from heart problems. Liesl, Wesley’s girlfriend is upset because he has to spend so much time work, so she gets her aunt Jenny to come to help Wesley at the store. Jenny is recovering from a hard breakup and only wants to throw herself into working to try to get over the heartbreak.

Romance, humor, difficulty with family, forgiveness, faith, and matchmaking lend to making this so enjoyable.

Thanks to Hallmark Publishing and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an advanced copy of this book.

Another great book by Shelley Shepard Gray. Gets you ready for Christmas. This is the story of Wesley who his parents and him run a Amish Marketplace. When Wesley's father becomes ill and they move away so he can be cared for Wesley is left to run the business. The holiday's are the busiest time for the store. Wesley has a girlfriend Liesl who thinks they will get engaged at Christmas. When Wesley has no time for Liesl do to the store she gets him help her Aunt Jenny. Will Liesl and Wesley get engaged or does God have other plans for them? Cute story. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this book. Enclosed is my own opinion of it.
