This is on my "want to read" list. However, I highly recommend it. Professor Edwards was my father's best friend - my father, also an historian, being Eckard V. Toy, Jr. Tom Edwards spent most of his career teaching history at Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington. He specialized in the Civil War, but also in studying the suffragettes. I had the privilege of hearing him speak once, in addition to knowing him personally. He, like my father, was a scholar of stellar character and great wit - and very down to earth. Any of Tom's books are worth reading and, as he was a native Northwesterner, he had a special understanding of this region and its history.
