Just the facts" was the request on an old TV show and, if you want just the facts about crystals and how to use them, you need Crystal Awareness by Catherine Bowman. This book gives you all the scientific and spiritual information you need in order to work with crystals for yourself and helping others.
Scientifically, you'll learn what crystals are and how they are made. You'll learn the differences in their shapes and what causes some crystals to be colored or have inclusions.
Spiritually, you'll discover how to use crystals to empower yourself and help others. You will learn the secrets of the many ways crystals can be used in meditation. You will open your chakras and heart to depths of meditation you had not believed possible.
Crystal Awareness reveals secrets of healing with crystals, too. You'll learn how to program crystals to do their healing work. You'll see the different functions for various types and colors of crystals.

AN OVERVIEW OF USING CRYSTALS FOR SPIRITUAL POWER
Frank Alper wrote in Foreword to this 1987 book, “We have become aware of crystals and more crystals… Crystals are not a ‘New Age fad,’ nor are they toys. They are real and will serve mankind for generations to come… In my travels throughout the world, I find more and more people opening their minds to holistic living and the utilization of crystals in their lives. It shows us that we are growing and becoming receptive to higher, ancient patterns of energy and knowledge. Because crystals absorb energy patterns, they are capable of service our stated needs. For example, if we wish to use them to hold the crystal in our hand, have a thought in our mind, and the blue frequency will be drawn into the crystal for our use and dissemination.” (Pg. xiii)
He continues, “Crystals have been used on Earth for over 80,000 years. They were the source of power in the ancient civilizations of Atlantic and Lemuria. They were used as conductors of energy information from the civilizations to other forms of conscious expression of life… Crystals are not to be used for ‘fun and games,’ or to be taken too lightly. The energies are real… You are a crystal-pure energy that vibrates with your Universe. You can resonate with all the knowledge of eternity. Your crystal will amplify this knowledge for you until the say comes when you are as one with this energy. Then you have become master of yourself and an enlightened being.” (Pg. xiv)
Author Catherine Bowman states in the first chapter, “This book combines the author’s own inner truth with research and experimentation to provide the reader with the basic ground rules for working with quartz crystals. The information is principally directed toward those people who are starting to use crystal energies. The main focus of the book is on personal development through crystal meditations and healing arrangements. Simple illustrated instructions are used throughout to avoid any possibility of confusion.” (Pg. xv)
She suggests, “Generally, the best crystals to be used for this expansion of awareness are natural, unpolished, colorless quartz. These minerals can best be described as living computers with none of the human impediments of emotion, prejudice, judgment or skepticism. They are always ready, willing and able to perform a programmed task. As multi-purpose tools, they never wear out…” (Pg. 5-6)
She states, “A personal crystal with programing will become the most important tool of unlock hidden areas within your mind… Often a stone will choose US by projecting strong vibrations. It is not uncommon to walk away from such a crystal only to discover a compulsion to return and purchase it.” (Pg. 27-28)
She explains, “Generators are usually the largest quartz in a person’s collection. They can be used as the power source to activate other crystals for linking in healing and meditation layouts. When crystals are not in use, place them in a circular pattern around the generator for recharging. This arrangement will provide a constant energy flow, and keep them fully energized. Large generators, over one foot in height, can be used as a focal point for projecting thoughts. They are often used as such in meditation groups. The people sit in a circle around this powerful crystal and energize it through mental thoughts.” (Pg. 31)
She notes, “Crystal jewelry can be programmed to protect its wearer from the negative vibrations emitted by people or circumstances. The projected mind thought creates a solid wall of energy around the subtle bodies allowing for only the positive, loving vibrations to filter through. This projection is very crucial to those who are in the beginning stages of consciously advancing their levels of awareness, as sensitivity to all vibrations is heightened.” (Pg. 158-159)
