3 1/2 Stars This is a delightful children's book that takes place in Onekama, where I live. As the summer residents move out many small animals move in. Three mice, two chipmunks, two porcupines, and skunk share the home and have many happy adventures over the winter. It would make a nice bedtime story book.
This is probably the first review I’ve ever written on a book I didn’t read. But that’s not going to be true long. Because I’ve ordered it from Amazon. But I came across the book quite by accident and fell head over heels in love wit the concept and the book itself right away. The characters and their names won my heart. The artwork is beyond beautiful and so creatine. Just reading the reviews was awesome. Reading about Mary Stewart’s early days and her life path made me smile because she sounds just as genuine as the creatures who moved into the summer cottage with the intent on making it home if only for a time. This book will make its home in the hearts of all who open it. I look forward to opening mine when it arrives. Kudus to you, Mary for living your dream and brightening the hearts, minds and lives of young people (and those young at heart) everywhere! Thank you for writing AND illustrating The Empty House and all the other books I’ve yet to discover…i hope I’m not alone in these discoveries. Find a Mary Stewart Scholl book today and in it you’ll find joy!!
A delightful tale of the community of little critters who make their winter home, snug and warm, in a cottage in Michigan after the people return to their winter homes. This is a true story, of a real cottage, imagined snd illustrated by one of the children who spent her summers there.
