Jerry D Young was born at home, in Senath, Missouri July 3, 1953. At age 5 the family rented a small farm house on an active farm 40 miles southwest of St. Louis. While the family weren't farmers, they lived something of a homestead type life, raising a milk cow, sometimes two, and calves, a pig or two, chickens, and the occasional goat. Along with the stock, a large garden helped to feed Jerry's three brothers and two sisters for several years. Fishing and hunting contributed to the pantry, as did foraging the wild edibles on the property.

At the age of 14, the family, minus a brother and two sisters that were now adults and on their own, moved back to Senath. Having been encouraged from an early age to read, Jerry was a regular patron of the Senath Branch Library.

A love of a good story was born within him, and shortly before graduating high school, for a lack of stories that he liked at the library, he began to write short vignettes, and started taking notes for stories that he wanted to tell. Well, a full life interceded, and the writing didn't resume for several years.

But while working a job with a much free time, and the then newfangled home computer, Jerry began to write in earnest. With the occasional gap in the process, Jerry continued to research and write, never believing he could ever be published. But when he turned 50, he wanted a change in his life, left the job he was doing and began focusing on his writing.

When he became ill, the writing stopped, but not the inspiration. When he started writing again, in 2004, after getting the medical problems under control, he began to read some on-line stories dealing with emergency preparedness, one of his other loves. The die was cast. Now with over a hundred of the vignettes and short stories about how to survive disasters written, along with his other novels, Jerry decided to go for broke, adding one of his previous works every few days to his list of stories now available, Jerry continues to write, both the Prep/PAW stories, as well as action adventure with a little romance type stories that first got him started.

Dick is given advance warning of a big CME event coming in four years and six months. He decides on a prepping course of action to get his company ready for the coming disaster, by hiring Claudia to run a new prepper department. They plan to gather supplies, adapt systems, buy vehicles, and prepare their employees and be in a position to help other people when the disaster hits.

This book is fiction, but was more of a company blueprint for how to prepare yourself and your business for a coming disaster, rather than an entertainment prepper story but I liked it. I find it interesting and informative to read about disaster prepping and see the differences between a company and an individual getting ready for a SHTF event. I would recommend this more to the hardcore preppers than general readers though.

I recently read Jerry D. Young's "CME" as research in support of the post-apocalyptic science fiction series I am writing. The story unfolds at a fast pace in just 89 pages. Young doesn't pull any punches and maximizes shock value of events, especially within the page and a half that is the Prologue. Without giving spoilers, the story is about a coronal mass ejection (CME) and the forward planning for the event, led by a strong female character named Claudia. The intent of my research is to see how other writers set up and facilitate the apocalyptic event upon which their story concept is based and how they balanced the character's point(s) of view. Young did a great job in my opinion and I highly recommend his book. Coronal mass ejections happen and it is not a question of if, but when the Earth will be hit by one.

About the book CME

Exhalent, could have been longer and gone into more of the preparation that was necessary for the survival of the people of the corporation.

Well written story with strong characters

I really enjoyed reading CME: Coronal Mass Ejection, and would recommend this book to any fans of the apocalyptic stories. The storyline was good, with many details about how the characters were going to put together their "preparedness group." I felt that there were too many fine details involved with the mechanics of putting the organisation together and that more time (space) could have been given to character development. But, overall, I truly enjoyed the book.

Not his best

This isn't one of Jerry D's best pieces but it's still an okay read. Just a little to farfetched in the prepping for my taste.

Nice but too short

An enjoyable read that could have been a nice series. Very believable characters in this well done story. I liked it.
