Fun, fast-paced, action-packed read yet again. This one, however, didn't feature even one token "girl" Dino!

Fun, fun book, especially for kids who like dinosaurs and sports. I'm impressed with the rhyming couplets throughout the book. Sometimes that format is awkward as authors try to force rhymes or invert sentence structure to make things work, but Ms. Wheeler did an admirable job of making the text flow naturally. The illustrations have character and fun details. And there are some great hockey-specific touches - like the diplodocus getting slashed in the shins or the allosaur being late for the check.

Breakneck rhyme, slams, snarls and suspense sweep us into the frenzied fan-packed stadium stands as the Herbivores take on the Carns in this neck-and-neck, glee-inducing hockey game -- you'll swear you hear the icy echoes of organ taunts and shredding blades.

They left out the part where Ankylosaurus reclassified in high school, did a prep year, and played 2 years of juniors to go play at a D3 school as a 22 year old freshman to sit behind an 18 year old Stegosaurus from Finland.

Great book for either a reluctant reader or a high interest reader. Dinosaurs playing ice hockey is definitely a unique take on the animal-sports theme. The author incorporates educational elements about the different dinosaur species. Written in simple language with alliteration and rhyming kids will enjoy the flow of the text. Brightly colored illustrations depicting the hockey playing finis are done very well. My 8 yr old, who is a hockey player, really enjoyed the book.

This book is super cute and super fun. Being a hockey family we simply LOVE this book. It is all rhyming and sometimes that is a big flop with my kids but this one is definitely a hit. It is really fun and it makes all of us laugh. Plus, my five year old really enjoys reading it to his one year old sisters - that makes it AWESOME!!!

It's been awhile since I added some kids' books. Found this after reading Dino-Baseball. Great story, rhymes well and has a really interesting story. The author knows hockey well and the pictures are flawlessly beautiful. My son and I had fun exploring the pictures and studying all the dinosaurs.

This is a game between herbivores and carnivores. I don't enjoy watching hockey but I enjoyed reading this book to my son. He isn't a hockey fan either and he also liked this book. This is a fun book to read. The illustration isn't superb so it is kind of hard to tell what some dinosaurs are, but you can tell what which dinosaur is which by the name on their jersey.

This is a great book for the young dinosaur lover. The rhyme is lively like the rhythm of a true hockey game. In addition, it has little lessons such as which dinosaurs are carnivores or herbivores and what happens when players don't demonstrate good behavior.

The play-by-play style text was a little awkward at first, but once I got into the rhythm of it I think the kids really enjoyed this story. I had them predict who was going to win the game and they all cheered when the Veggiesaurs won in the end.

This is an engaging book, even for those with little interest in hockey. Not sure whether to give it 4 or 5 stars, but when in doubt with kids' books, I think I'll err on the side of being too liberal!

I love this series. Lisa Wheeler is a master at creating fun rhyme that sings, so you're happy to read her books over and over to eager children. It's adorable how she builds in a bit about the next book--Dino-Soccer (and does the same in every book in this series that I've read so far).

Wow, as hockey fans, my kids get a lot of hockey exposure, so it was fun to read this in dino format. Lots of fun for all of us. And was it just me, or was there a cameo appearance by Alex Burrows? Ahahah!

Dinosaur teams (Veggies vs Meats) take to the ice in a fierce hockey battle. We liked the fun names, action, and hockey bits. Hockey kids will like this one. Others might not appreciate the over the top play action.

Mommy's review from 8/5/08 -

Julia is totally into dinosaurs at the moment so this really thrilled her. I like the rhymes myself and that she actually is interested in "reading along." Great for toddlers, especially if they're also into either dinosaurs or hockey... or even better - both!

This playful rhyming text is popular among my students. I can see why. It mixes sports and dinosaurs, two topics that kids gravitate towards. Overall, the book basically announces the game in rhyming quatrains. Fun. Simple. Good for the right crowd.

This is super cute and combines my son's two favorite things. It is told through rhyme, which can be really lame in some children's stories but makes this one quite hilarious. Legit hockey terminology is utilized. Loved this, as did the two year old.

Love how the teams are always the vegetarians versus the meat eaters. Great to teach this distinction about dinosaurs.
This time the teams battle for the hockey championship.
Illustrations are colorful as always.

My son picked this out because he's been very interested in dinosaurs recently, but we're not a big sport family so I think so of the hockey terms went over my kid's heads, not to mention the dinosaur names just don't roll off your tongue.

I liked learning dinosaur names, and learning about hockey. I also liked that it was rhymy. I didn't like that there weren't too many words.

Some of the rhymes seem a bit forced but who can beat Dino's and hockey together. I was "the best Mom ever" for at least a week when I brought this one home.
