Harry Horse wrote and illustrated many books for children, including the popular Little Rabbit picture books and the novels The Last Polar Bears, The Last Castaways, The Last Cowboys, and The Last Gold Diggers. He was also a political cartoonist for several national newspapers in the United Kingdom.
A selfish rabbit never needs to apologize, but still gets what he wants. Nothing good or true in here (well, as the last page says it is good to share, but that doesn’t address the major issues of the book). Illustrations were fine and only reason this is a 2 and not a 1. May be a good book to read with an early elementary student to talk through and see if the child can identify what worldview is being portrayed.
Little Rabbit receives the red sled he wanted for Christmas (the Christmas Rabbit delivered!), but doesn't want to share it with anyone. When he breaks the sled and gets stuck in the snow, however, his friends help rescue him and repair it. Then they all play with it together. Little Rabbit realizes that it's way more fun with friends. Cute rabbit illustrations, but the message is one readers are likely to have heard before.

All about a rabbit who is too selfish to share and is hateful to everyone in his family. He eventually learns his lesson on the last page, but the rest of the book just talks about bad behavior. Toddlers only remember the bad behavior.
Overall a cute Christmas story however, I found it really hard to enjoy the main character, Little Rabbit, until the end of the story. I thought this character was written a little more rough than he needed to be. I did enjoy the illustrations and it really helped with the Christmas spirit.
Harry Horse is one of my favorite picture book authors and this was another that I had not seen. The detailing is lovely and the story is heartwarming great for any age reader.
I love the illustrated lesson we learn from this book, that even when others aren't kind to you, if you are kind to them, you can make friends and change attitudes and actions.
A story many small children can probably identify with Little Rabbit's assumption that Christmas is about the gifts. Of course, he comes to learn sharing and friendship are ultimately more important. I tried to view the book through the eyes of a child because, as an adult, it came across as rather moralistic and sappy. The message is a good one but I would have preferred to see something about the real meaning of Christmas-Jesus-though I suppose this was written to appeal to a more secular audience. Were it not for the illustrations I probably would have given this one a two star rating.
Little Rabbit has a gift he is dreaming of for Christmas. When Christmas comes, he thinks he didn't get his dream gift, but he did. When he goes out to play with it, some of his friends want to play with it as well. Unfortunately, Little Rabbit doesn't want to share. At the end of the story, Little Rabbit learns that it is best to share, but only after a misadventure with his gift that leads to his friends unselfishly coming to his rescue.
For those familiar with the Accelerated Reader Program, this is a level 2.6 book.
At the end of this book, I was very glad that Little Rabbit got an attitude adjustment. At first he was whiny, demanding, bratty and selfish. I was happy when he finally learned to share. He has really good friends who will always be there for him. I enjoyed the lesson this book taught about sharing and being grateful for what you have. =)
I doubt the message of "it's FUN to let other kids share your toys" will resonate with kids, because let's face it, kids don't like to share! Hey, do a lot of grownups? But it's a sweet story, even though the "Christmas Rabbit" may confuse some kids come Easter...
One of the lessons we hope is learned during the Christmas season is sharing. Little Rabbit is quite selfish with his new sled until he gets into deep snow and needs the help of friends. He learns that sledding is twice the fun when shared with friends.
All Little Rabbit wanted for Christmas was a red sled, but when he got it he wouldn't share with his friends. When Little Rabbit ran into problems, he learned how fun it is to share and how great his friends are. Cute story and illustrations, with a nice example for children about sharing.
This has a cute message about how friendship and sharing are the best parts of Christmas in a way that kids should be able to relate. A little dull for me, but an OK one for before bed.
