In this epic fantasy novel, ‘Heavy is the Head’ Reyna, the formidable Dark Queen, reigns with an iron fist and this witch’s name is synonymous with unwavering ruthlessness. However, her destiny takes an unexpected turn when she crosses paths with a shifter unaware of his own nature.
Faced with a daunting ultimatum, the shifter joins Reyna's cause, as they prepare for an impending war against Reyna’s sister Jacintha, the Faerie Queen of Reynheart.
Reyna is determined to unseat her, but the price of victory is the heart of the one she loves most, a choice that will forever change the fate of House Starryvale.
The stage is set for a cataclysmic clash as House Starryvale and House Reynheart collide, in a gripping tale of power, loyalty, sacrifice, and a heart-wrenching decision that could change the world.
This is honestly possibly one of the best debut novels I’ve read. That’s it. End review.
Kidding! This book covers the chronicles of Reyna, the so called Dark Queen, known for her ruthlessness and seemingly unjustified vendetta against her ‘perfect’ sister. The novel follows Reyna as she embarks on the course of war, advised by her closest confidants who eventually become her friends.
The battle and combat scenes were some of the best I’ve ever read, as they were deeply cinematic in nature. The comedy elements were wonderful and bought many a smile to my face. Most importantly, however, was the wonderful heartfelt moments, particularly surrounding elements of mental health and interpersonal relationships. I really enjoyed watching how her relationship with Henry progressed, and his understanding of how she chose to represent love - and, by extension, how Reyna realised in what ways she was comfortable to express fondness!!
The ending of the novel had me nearly flinging my kindle across the room and I am truly excited for part two! I’d recommend this book to fans of Stardust and The Princess Bride! Thank you so much to the author for sending me an ARC copy!
I absolutely loved this book! I devoured it! When I started it, I thought I’d find time in between my busy life to read it here & there. I was wrong! I ended up staying up way too late to finish it because I had to know how it ended. I try to do reviews with no spoilers at all. So I won’t say much more beyond the fact that I loved it because I totally did. I haven’t been on kindle much. I’ve come to realize that I strongly prefer physical books but this one had me glued to kindle.
Fantastic novel. Excellent world building, the author painted a crystal clear picture of Staryvale, it's intricacies and politics.
Would recommend if you are into fantasy novels and are looking for a fresh take on the genre. Great characters, and an engaging read from start to finish.
Absolutely loved this book!! Honestly had me hooked from the first page! Something I will be rereading again and sharing with my sons who both love fantasy just like me!!! I can't wait to read more by this author!! Just amazing and spellbinding from the first few pages!!!
