VAN DIJK: The Dutch Connection

Rate this book
SYNOPSIS

The DUTCH CONNECTION is a simple adventure with a few admirable yet realistic characters. It centres round private detective – super sleuth – Van Dijk of Dutch origin now residing and working in London.

One morning an attractive young lady – Kelly Gordon – walks into his office and tells him her fiancée – Robert – has been missing for a number of days. Van Dijk’s name has been given to her by a local police station sergeant she’d met on reporting Robert’s disappearance.

Unknown to Kelly, Van Dijk, has already been briefed by the police and readily agrees to help trace her missing fiancée. The name Gordon Lewis, owner of one of the most successful gambling houses in London as well as being one of the toughest rogues in the underworld, has rented a small room next door to her fiancée’s studio. The police, through Van Dijk, want to know why and for what purpose.

After gaining his business degree Robert had no success in the city so turned to his second love, that of abstract art in metal. His creations – Coheres – became successful and were quickly being purchased by one big client. That client proved to be Gordon Lewis. But why did he have interest in Robert’s creations?

Next to Robert’s studio Van Dijk finds a room full of Coheres. They’re being carefully packed with other items and labelled for transportation to the Netherlands and Germany. Van Dijk and Kelly decide to visit Lewis’s casino to try and find out why he has so much interest Robert’s Coheres. Some were physically present in the casino; others, in the room next to Robert’ studio. Did they have anything to do with Robert’s disappearance?

Super sleuth complements his status in the eyes of the law in quickly solving the mystery. Inspector Green, who’d indirectly briefed Van Dijk at the outset via his own station sergeant, was more than satisfied with the end result gained by his trustworthy Dutch private detective.
