My parents should have known what they were getting when they named me Kharma. I've always been more than people bargained for, but it's not my fault most men have more audacity than brains. True to my name, serving up karma on a blood-red platter is the only hobby that keeps me sane in this small town. I tell myself it's all I need, but sometimes I get an urge for the happily ever afters I see on my favorite rom-coms. Unfortunately, the only person who never tells me I'm too much is the one I've convinced myself isn't enough for me.
Arrange marriages are an expectation in the Valentine and Knight families so, Kharma and Dakota have known this day was coming for quite some time. The contract has been drawn up and the groom to be is ready to sign on the dotted line but, the bride to be is nowhere to be found. Kharma finds every excuse in the book to delay this wedding and is continually MIA. Dakota is such a lovesick puppy behind his future wife, he just allows it. But, there comes a time when even lovesick puppies run out of patience and Dakota’s tank is officially empty. I’m on the fence with this book. My issue is the length and the pacing. There were multiple time jumps between chapters one and four so, the pacing was extremely fast. When the book starts, Dakota is a wallflower. Kharma practically walks all over him but, by chapter three, he finds a hidden bag of BDE and now, all of a sudden, he’s bossin’ up on her. Insert side eye because, sir, where was this energy in the beginning?!!! By the time we get to chapter four, the book has jumped more than a year and Kharma and Dakota are already married and sayin’ I love you. How sway?!!! We completely missed the courtship and the marriage so, the chemistry between these characters didn’t work for me. Honestly, this book really should’ve been longer. Don’t get me wrong. I loved Kharma and Dakota but, I just didn’t get the intense attraction and love between them the author was tryin’ to portray. 🤷🏾♀️
I think I would have enjoyed a full length more cohesive version of Kharma and Dakota's story.
So, this book was at two different phases of this couple's life. The first phase is before marriage, essentially the engagement, and lays the foundation of how their marriage was arranged. I found this interesting because these families joined different spectrums of the law. Dakota's family was "legal," a family full of lawyers. While Kharma's family had a trucking empire, that was a coverup to underground interstate crime, thus being "illegal." Joining together would bring balance. This wasn't really tapped into as it is a short, but would have been a great storyline.
Kharma seemed so uninterested in Dakota because he started off trying to appease her and she didn't vibe with meek energy. Baby, when Dakota applied that pressure she didn't realize who her future husband really was.
Dakota fell for Kharma before she was even taking him seriously. He took the soft approach first and after he grew tired the BDE came out and I was here for it all. Okay snatch me up, carry me over your shoulders, give me some act right in the car. 😩🥱 Once that power shifted, so did their relationship. Kharma's "profession or calling" was to avenge women from fkboy men and when she realized that her husband was nothing like them she allowed herself to fall.
The second phase of the book is when they are married and these two were nasty. Beyond the physical which seemed to be so bomb, they had found love in one another. I wish there was more time spent with them together as a couple but the sweet moments were enough for me to feel that his was more than mid.
“He always did that. Breathed me in like I was his oxygen.” 😮💨 These Two <<<<< Everything!!! 🖤🥰🖤
Im pretty convinced that the infamous Jill Scott quote “if you can tell me what to do, then you can tell me what to do. But if you can’t tell me what to do, then you can’t tell me what to do” was talking about Kharma Knight because baby sis was not one to be tamed, controlled or changed! Her father and brothers could do nothing with her and pretty much wrote her off as a lost cause. She’s always been ruthless but after a traumatic experience happened during college, she was even more ruthless and not to be fkd with!
Kharma is set out to marry Dakota Valentine and my man had his work cut out for him with this feisty, grillz wearing, knife throwing woman but he is up for the challenge. He saw what no one else saw in her and all he wanted to do was love her while being her safe space so that she could thrive in her element as her truest self!
He falls first but she falls harder and the chemistry between these two was everything!! When both characters are clingy af, it’s a win win for me! The spice was a level 10 🥵🥵🥵 and it left me DRIPPING!!! 💦💦💦 I went into this read blindly and am not the least bit disappointed! This novella was exactly what I needed and was giving the energy it needed to give! I loved the pace of the story and how it flowed in stages revealing their relationships in a progressive manner.
When Shon gets it right, 🗣️SHE GETS IT RIGHT!! I absolutely loved Kharma and Dakota real bad and if this is how Shon came out of the gate gunz blazing with this series then I cannot wait for the rest! 4.5 ⭐️’s
Miss Shon. Thank you for the thorough author’s notes, with all the warnings. Although I must admit, I was almost a little scared to read after all that. Cause it was a lot. 🤯 However, my curiosity pushed me to see what this was all about, and I’m glad I did.
Kharma was the perfect name for our girl, as she was dishing it out left and right. See, after a traumatic event in college, she was never the same. However, she made it her mission to be everything to women who couldn’t save or help themselves.
Kharma was to marry Dakota, a hard-working attorney, from another prominent family. Dakota had his damn hands full with this woman, who was a live wire, continually running from him, and causing havoc around town. But Dakota said, she is mine. He would take her just the way she was, and not change one thing about her. He knew that was what she needed was someone who would love and accept her as is.
Kharma thought Dakota was handsome, but she wasn’t feeling him being all gentlemanlike. Kharma needed her man to “man up” to her, and then she would gleefully submit. Well, when Mr. Dakota showed Kharma the other side of him, chile she was whining like a kitten. 🤣 He flipped the damn script and turned into a beast on that ass! 😜 Whew they were nasty! 🥵
These two seemed to be obsessed with each other, after they finally found their groove, and I loved that for them. I only wish we could have seen on page how they got from there to here. One-minute Kharma was ignoring the hell out of Dakota, then she wanted to jump into his skin the next. Hopefully there will be more to their story in the future. Looking forward to more wild happenings in New Hope.
This is my third read by this author and each book leaves me more and more intrigued and wanting more.
I loved this short even though it ended on a cliffhanger. I can’t wait to see what will come next. I really liked Kharma and Dakota together. They had an arranged marriage, but their love was anything but arranged. These two just fit together and I loved that he didn’t try to change her and embraced her for who she was. He definitely fell first and fell hard, but I liked that because it means the man will put forth that much more effort with his woman and pleasing her. The scenes between these two were spicy and I couldn’t get enough.

Can’t wait to read about the other characters 🤪

Instant karma is good but those well thought out plans to ruin a life is so much better. Hate that I love the cliff hanging set up for Malachi’s good. I loved this couple but this novella seemed choppy like scenes taken from what could have possibly been a full length novel.
This book was a good series.Karma and Dakota was cute together. I love the fact that Dakota was not playing with Karma and he pulled up on her. I can’t wait to read more books in this series.
Arranged marriage. Morally Grey FMC. Lover Boy MMC. Crime family. Erotic. 88 pages. I loved that there was a little bit of buildup before we got to the nasty.
The T in Trouble should’ve been capitalized but overall well, written and a very enjoyable, spicy novella.
This book starts off a little slow in terms of the bedroom action which is mentioned in the author’s note in the beginning of the book. There was a storyline which I appreciated and the sexual scenes that were in the book were explicit; however, given that this is classified as an erotica I just felt like I wanted a little bit more. Maybe I’m just greedy…lol.
I loved every page of this. Kharma needed someone who wouldn’t change her but would add to her. Dakota was everything she needs and didn’t even know. His obsession to her in turn made her addicted to him because baby be catered to every part of her… 🤩🤩 This was perfection!!! Very much BDE!!! 😘😘
I knew it was a novella going in, so I shouldn't have been disappointed when it ended. But I was! 🤦🏾♀️🥰😂I have so many questions? I hope we get more of Kharma and Dakota. My man, Dakota was all IN! Hoping to get more of the Knight triplets in the future 🫶🏾
I don’t think making this a novella was the best choice for a couple of reasons. For one, due to the story being so short everything was rushed meaning we didn’t get to know these characters enough to root for them. Outside of the sex we don’t get to see Kharma and Dakota fall in love, it feels more like infatuation and lust than it does love. Secondly there doesn’t seem to be much of a plot; every chapter is basically Kharma & Dakota talking a bit and then it ends with them having sex. I feel like there’s so much more potential for this story if it was to be made into a longer book: I would love some back story on Kharma’s family and why she’s the way she is, I would be interested in seeing the dynamics between the two families and I want to see a more fully fleshed out relationship between K & D. Also sometimes the dialogue was bit corny, like Dakota constantly calling Kharma “trouble” was a bit cringe and felt forced.
This novelette was entirely way too short I NEED MOREEEEEEEE 😣😭😭😤🙁 why is it that the shortest stories are always the sweetest to enjoy 😫😭😭 wish we got to see them more in their partnering relationship & wish they actually finished that bathroom conversation bc why you booking secret appointments Kharma 🤭👀 lol I truly enjoyed their chemistry and how Dakota is a softy for Kharma but also knew when to call her out on her BS. I also loved how Kharma did not play about her man bc why did he think it was acceptable to say that in their home????? People are never short of audacity smh.
But the Knight-Valentine’s were just absolutely wonderful 💜
Hopefully we get stories on the brothers & Dakota’s sister.
The only thing I wanted from this, was for it be longer. Anything Shon writes is crack. I really don’t know how each character she writes is so gentle? Dakota was a 10/10 man as usual. Gentle yet assertive. Shon will write a sweet, caring attentive man. Losing track of how men of them I can call my favourites. I liked Kharma and she really was misunderstood and I’m glad Dakota did. Very interested in the triplets stories!
This was a great book and I love the characters. I would have like the book to be longer. I wanted to see the process of them falling in love. But nonetheless the love was there and I really felt how much he love kharma and how she was spoiled but he loved it. Another great read from shon.
The vibes were there. I really loved this. The characters were sweet and endearing, and were easy to like and root for. It was interesting how the story progressed (there wasn't a full start-to-finish depiction of their romantic development) with no distinct plot or conflict, and that structure really worked for this novella.
You are going to love this short novella. I love that the love that he show her. He felt hard the first time he saw. She not so much she was attracted to him but no love. I love that he gave her freedom to be her but also protected her in every way also made her feel love so she can bring her walls down. Dakota & Kharma love them I just needed more.
Mannnnn I wish with all my heart that this was a full length novel, but alas, the snippet we got was enough to whet my appetite for now Kharma and Dakota seem like complete opposites (which they are) but they’re also one of those couples that are literally made for each other. I need more!
Whew! I need to find a Kharma to contact! I got somebody i need her to handle right quick!! This was honestly one of the cutest arranged marriages I’ve ever read about! Dakota was the sweetest but assertive and a little aggressive when he needed to be. Kharma was an advocate for getting justice for women hurt by terrible men. Love them both!!!!
This is considered erotica, but in my opinion, it was more of a romance. Seeing how Dakota loved Kharma was beautiful. Seeing a man love on a woman without hesitation or caring what people think is always going to get me in my feelings. I can’t wait for the rest of the series.
This book is short, cute, and sweet. From the first page to the last, how this played out was very cute. It's not fully fleshed out but gives you enough to keep going .
Talking about some, don’t be mad!!! Anywho. This was such a cute read though I love that she fought him at every point but he wind up being everything she didn’t know she needed.
This is absolutely a quick read. But maybe a little too quick. The choice of career for Kharma was definitely interesting. But I couldn’t quite get the relationship with her arranged marriage.
