4+ stars. A story for Trace, Bailey and Kellam for the continued series.A great start but a sad one as Trace finds his friend, Candy murdered. Fast forward and Trace was a tired trucker dragon and still single by his choice.
Bailey 37 years was the new Blackwing coven leader and knew Trace was his mate but rejection still hurt. A romance for a dragon, a vampire, Bailey and Kellam 23 was a cleaner for the coven and had just found a mate or two.
Ooh I loved the scenes where Kellam gets a promotion. Scenes playout and Trace finds love, dramas and a HEA. I had read most of the previous books of this series but missed the one before this but Blackwing can be read as a standalone book. This is a great age gap story with teasing banters and hot romance, Vaughan’s story is next in line for release.

The overall universe is interesting enough to pick up the other books in the series, but the groundwork is laid early on for the recent history for both main characters. The gruff “daddy” Trace is your typical protective dragon shifter, but the two vampires Bailey and Kellum don’t adhere to some standard vampire norms. They eat human food and rarely drink blood, can be outdoors in the daytime without taking damage, etc.
The early smut between Bailey and Kellum isn’t dwelled on which fuels the tension between all three characters once they finally get together. The sexual tension remains high as the trio don’t fully bond until the resolution, but the other loose ends are tied up neatly by the last page. There are established pairings and surprise pairings that are intriguing, but the writer spends so little time with the individuals involved that it’s just a happy blip before the carnage of the final battle. Even the ending is anticlimactic, but at the end of the day, it was a satisfying enough ending.

No one meets their stereotypes. Absolutely delightful! This story has everything. The found family was very loving and supportive. Charlie and Norah were amazing. Trace had a self imposed mission to keep a vulnerable group of people safe. When he felt he failed, he did what he thought best, knowing the long term consequences. Norah partnered with him and they left and started new lives. Along the journey of self preservation, Trace finds then rejects a mate, Bailey. His mate, finds a mate, Kellam. Bailey is a leader of a fierce pack. There's a lot going on. Does Trace step up or does he step out? Does Kellam mate with Trace? Does Trace accept two mates? Nice story. Good action. For me, there were a lot of contradictions. Good story. The MC were great. Well done!

Vampires and a Dragon
Good, bad, and sadistic are all words that describe vampires, humans, and any other race on the planet. But when a good dragon does something he feels he must, his life changes, and not for the better. Vampires who have lived through hardship and abuse meet and seem to bond in seconds. Now they just have to brake down their third mates they can all bond and be happy. Through the chase and battles one thing is clear, mates are stronger together.
April Kelley has been a favorite author of mine for years. This book is just one more reason why.

When I read the blurb about this book, I wasn't to sure, but I am glad that I bought it. I haven't read any of the previous books with this author. I enjoyed the story--dealing with 3 heroes that were meant to be together, even if dragon was afraid to mate with the vampires due to a problem from his past. It was an interesting story with great characters.

This book was definitely outstanding. I loved the intrigue, the action, the romance, the mating and wonderful cast of characters. Blackwing is so compelling that I wouldn't mind if it was the start to it's own series. The relationship dynamic between the three main characters was absolutely delightful and they worked so well together (fighting and in the bedroom). Awesome story.

This series has been consistent 4-star reads for me! I always find the stories entertaining and the characters are a diverse group that somehow always seem to work! Yeah, the grammatical errors are a pain, but not enough to make me stop reading! *grin*

Ok I zipped through these so fast, I had to back track and add many books in the series. I don't like doing that lol bc then I hurry and then these shelves I put them on lack the books added. Sigh.
But it was soooo good I had to just get to the next. Now I'm done and oh how I still want more.
