I received this "complete duet" ARC from Valentine PR and saw that it was 900 pages and gasped...
When would I have the time to read this massive book.
Well,...the answer is within the last 5 days....
Because this book will grab you by the collar and drag you through laughter and tears and ugly, chin trembling crying and then put you back together, tap you on the head and tell you to be on your way.

I went into this pretty blind, and I encourage all to do that. Yes, triggers warnings should be reviewed, especially for the second half, but every single emotional and sexual experience felt integral to this storyline.

Willow returns home after years in an abusive relationship. She brings her daughter to Briar Valley seeking safety and the calm needed to repair her heart and body.
What she finds is three men that will play a big part in her healing and self discovery. Each man has his own dark secrets and while I have my opinions on who I think she be top dog, it's all about reading and falling in love with these flawed characters.

Absolutely worth losing sleep over, while both released in their single editions, this duet is scheduled for release on September 27th and should be added to your TBR.

As the title suggests, this is a duology. A fact I overlooked until I seemed to be reading for a while and had still only read 3%. Which was then reinforced much later when book 1 ends on a cliffhanger

BUT I could dive straight into Book 2.

We find our FMC in Book 1 fleeing Mexico for England with her young daughter, in search of a grandmother she doesn’t know. She lives in Briar Valley and our FMC arrives (in a way she didn’t expect) and is taken under the wings of the locals, and into the beds of 3 of them. Get ready to clutch those pearls - because theres a set of twins and the third is their cousin. Book 1 is all insta love and the different characteristics of the 3 guys. There’s also ALOT of trauma.

Book 2 is more focused on the FMC’s attempt to gain some control over her life from her shitty, abusive ex husband. A lot happens plot wise and apart from the steamy scenes it’s a bit more suspenseful.

Despite the duology being ‘a long book’ I wanted to see more of the dynamic with a little deeper emotional connection, which can tend be lacking with instalove trope IMO. I felt this would have helped given the FMC had such a significant trauma past that I felt she just dove straight in without any processing, therapeutic help or otherwise and coupled with some of the ‘attitudes’ of the 3 made me feel a tad hesitant about the collective relationship and the health of the MF relationships.

To read these I recommend you read the trigger warnings, there’s plenty and they’re significant so practice self care.

Thanks to the author and Valentine PR for my copy.

Oh man, I loved this duet. J. Rose never disappoints. The Briar Valley duet will hit you in the feels, so be prepared and have some tissues handy. I can relate to Willow on so many levels; she has been through so much. Killian, Micah, and Zach, God, these men were so perfect for her and Arianna. This was truly such a beautiful story. 🥹🖤 I’ll be thinking of these characters for a long time.

🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

This return to Briar Valley was just as good the second time around! I highly recommend this omnibus of the completed duet, not just for the original story but also for the additional material. Plus, the cover on this one is absolutely gorgeous and needs to be on your shelf.

Where Broken Wings Fly
The need to drag her into my arms, pin her there for the rest of her goddamn life and feel her gorgeous curves in my hands is riding me hard. I don’t know this woman, but I still want to claim her as my own.

Here lies another fantastic story from J Rose! It is full of the emotional depth I have come to expect from her books: a broken FMC and three protective MMCs prepared to repair her heart and mend her soul. The journey is both heartbreaking and uplifting. And the drama keeps you on your toes.

Willow’s backstory is traumatic, but she remains a fighter despite every wrong done to her. She goes to unbelievable lengths to protect her daughter – her shining light and her reason to keep living. As a mother, that unconditional love and selfless need to protect a child hit particularly close to home.

I am completely enamored with the men she found in Briar Valley, but Micah, the quiet twin, holds a special place in my heart. His sadness calls to the ghosts inside Willow, and they help heal each other. Where Killian was a little too possessive and overbearing, Micah was soft. Where his twin, Zach, was trying to make light of situations with boisterous jokes, Micah was that quiet presence that allowed her to just be.

The romance is medium/fast burn and spicy. Willow is skittish, coming from a decade of DV and SA in the hands of her husband, but the men are respectful of her limits, with only a few hiccups.

Where Wild Things Grow
“You’ve got me, babe. I never stopped loving you. It would take the end of this damn world for that to happen, and even then I’d follow you into the beyond.”

I know J Rose will rip out my heart every time I crack open the pages of one of her books, and she did it again with this second half of Willow’s tale. I am left a sobbing wreck - first through each emotional second to get to Willow’s HEA and then again at one of the most-deserved happy endings ever. I loved every moment of it! Every twist and turn. Every personal victory.

A mother’s love has no bounds, repeatedly shown as danger comes from all sides to threaten their new life in Briar Valley. Willow broke her men when she fled, and much of the story focuses on learning to heal and forgive. I loved the character growth shown throughout and Willow’s building strength. She will not be cowed by her abusive ex. She will take control of her life.

This story is fast-burn and spicy, with MF and group scenes ranging from tender love-making to spicier fare.

J. Rose writes happily ever afters for those who went through the worst of the worst. These books manage to break your heart, make you cry, make you want to reach through the pages to hug the MCs, and wish you could change the entire world. They make you feel powerless in the face of truly evil people, and think all hope is lost. But on the other hand, they make you see the good in people. Realise that what you may consider a small act of kindness may change the entire world for someone, that you never know what anyone else is actually going through. That the road to recovery isn’t always easy or pretty, but that you just have to keep going.

This entire duet had me on the edge of my seat. I love Willow’s determination, Killian’s grumpy papa bear vibes, Zach’s golden retriever-ness and Micah’s tortured artist relatability. Arianna is an absolute sweetheart and seeing their relationships develop and Willow and Ari discover what being a part of a family is like was beautiful. Getting out of an abusive situation isn’t easy, the trauma becomes part of you, but leaving is so worth it. People with the best intentions still make mistakes, but seeing them grow and try to be better was beautiful. This feels weird to say due to the heavy topics they deal with, but J. Rose’s books give me comfort in a way rarely any other books manage. I wish Briar Valley was a real place, the people and the way of living is beautiful and the sense of community unrivalled.

Do check content and trigger warnings as this duet deals with very heavy topics!

This book made me realize that maybe there IS an extent to what I enjoy in a dark romance. Unfortunately, this book didn't merely graze that line but went over it fully (and beyond).

In total fairness, the author included a full list of trigger warnings at the beginning of this novel. I personally thought that even after reading the disclaimer, there was a possibility of me enjoying this novel because I have read novels with that content included before.

But this book was...too much for me. In many, many ways. I think I've also learned that reverse harem novels are not for me either. Especially when some of the characters partaking are related. With that being said, if you like the widely popular novel "Credence" by Penelope Douglas (another novel that was not my favourite) there's a good chance you may like this book too.

To summarize what went wrong for me with this novel, I think the explanation of "too much" sums it up. There was too much drama and too much toxic and problematic content (all of which I had been warned about). I just could not enjoy this novel at ALL and found that I was disturbed throughout.

***I received an e-ARC of this novel from Valentine PR in exchange for an honest review.***

I absolutely love everything that J Rose writes and I mean everything.
Her books are emotional, traumatizing, sexy, uplifting…. And then she rips your heart and soul out of your body with no apology and you have to painfully wait for her to put you back together again. I love every second of it.
This is a why choose, her specialty, and it centres around Willow and her daughter Arianna who have escaped her horrific husband in Mexico. She travels back to England in search of her long lost grandmother and her reclusive community Briar Valley. Here she meets the men! 🥵🔥 Micah, Zach and my heart Killian. These men are all so different but so so perfect. Killian is so rough around the edges and so grumpy but his love and passion for Willow is *chefs kiss*. Willow is such a strong character, there truly is no one stronger out there then a Mother protecting her child. Willow's love for her family is beautiful to read about and her passion for Killian, Zach & Micah is heart warming and terrifying in its intensity. I always comment in my reviews how if any of us are lucky to experience even a drop of love that these characters do in our real lives...wow...we'd be so unbelievably fortunate.
The story is so powerful and it's so heart breaking everything Willow goes through with her "husband" and what he stands for is so horrifying. I really like how all J.Roses' books are connected in a way and love how Sabre Security plays a large role in this series as well. All the characters are just so dynamic and likable. I would literally read a story about any of them....I guess I kind of have LOL
I'm looking forward to literally everything that Ms. Rose has to write and I hope she doesn't keep me waiting too long for her next emotionally damaging series.
I won’t say much more cuz you honestly have to read this duet it’s so emotionally charged you’ll be sucked right in. And don’t forget to heed the trigger warnings!!!

"Broken wings can still fly. You are living proof of that."

I was lucky to receive an ARC copy of J Rose's newest book, Briar Valley: The Complete Duet.

Willow's story was so heartbreakingly beautiful that it made me a mess, but I could not put it down!

It broke my heart and had me laughing and crying as well. I could not help but fall in love with all the characters along the way.

I loved Briar Valley and its community, including everything it stood for.

“This a place for lost things. A family of choice, rather than blood.”

J Rose has a way of drawing you into the world that she writes. She has such a way with words, and I have loved everything that I have read that she has written. She has become an auto-buy author for me.

Where Broken Wings Fly ends on a cliffhanger, so I was so happy to have Where Wild Things Grow there to read next because I needed to know what happens!

My heart breaks for Willow and everything she has been through and experienced, but I am completely in awe of how strong she is after everything she's had to endure. I'm so happy she got the ending that she deserves.

Killian, Zach, and Micah frustrated me as they could not understand why Willow left. It was also unfair of them to blame Willow for their choices while she was gone. But I am glad they came around and now understand why she did what she did.

I loved seeing characters from J Rose's Blackwood Institute and Sabre Security making an appearance.

The scene where Willow and Harlow meet was everything, and I wish we got to see a friendship develop between the two women.

I loved the bonus scenes and the extended epilogue in the Briar Valley: The Complete Duet.

Thank you so much to J Rose for this ARC 💙

* J Rose's dark romance books are all set in the same shared universe, so I highly recommend checking out her recommended reading order! *

Where Broken Wings Fly is the first book of the Briar Valley duet. Willow has had a rough life, and she and her daughter Arianna are currently trying to outrun it. They are determined to make it to her grandmothers sanctuary. While they are there, more secrets are uncovered, and Willow struggles to trust people and let them in. She also meets Killian and his twin cousins Zach and Micah. I loved their interactions with Arianna. She deserves to have 3 guys doting on her after her short life. It does end on a bit of a cliffhanger, so I am anxiously awaiting the second book of the duet to see what is next. It is a dark book, so please check the trigger warnings. The second book of the duet is Where Wild Things Grow. The second book starts rather unexpectedly, and Willow and Ari have to return back to Briar Valley; she has to face the repercussions of leaving the guys and how they each handled it differently. She finally seeks justice and voices the experience she had at the hands of her husband, but that is not the only person she has to fight. Sometimes she is at war with herself, but Micah shares a similar pain; they can help each other in ways Zach and Killian are unable to relate to. It seems like Willow is constantly on the defense, and she is ready to move on with her family in peace. I love that we get to see characters from other books, but more importantly Harlow; J Rose is really good about writing strong female characters who have come from tragic pasts. The complete duet does have new content, including Micah’s POV meeting Willow. Most importantly, it has an extended epilogue that shows a glimpse into the future, and it sound like we will be seeing more of them in a future series coming next year.

this series was so good, I couldn’t put it down, the plot was so captivating and such a unique concept then anything I’ve ever read, the author really knows how to write such an amazing story that deals with mental health, grief, and trauma in such a realistic and perfectly written way, the way the author wrote it really made you feel like you were experiencing what the characters were going through! the tropes in this book was so good, small town, unexpected pregnancy, small mum, so many of my absolute favourites all in one book! as for willow as a character, I loved her, she had so much development and depth to her and I loved seeing her getting to rid her demons once and for all, she went through so much to come out on top! and as for the guys, killian was definitely my favourite out of the guys but I loved them all, they were each so unique, and I loved seeing their interactions with willow and the way each of them showed their love and protectiveness, they each played such a key role into willows journey, and gave her the pieces of themselves to help her heal, I loved how each of the guys had their development and added depth in this book, it really gave them so much more character which I loved! overall, an amazing duology which I am OBSESSED with, with such important elements to it and amazingly written dynamics, characters and plot!

This is the complete duet with the books “Where Broken Wings Fly” and “Where Wild Things Grow”.
I read them last year, so this was a reread for the complete duet releasing September 27th.

It was one of my favorite reads in 2023, and I was so excited to reread it.

Willow was sold into a forced marriage at 16, and this duet follows her after her escape 10 years later.

She comes to Briar Valley, and I fell in love with the village right away. I loved the sense of family and the way they all took care of each other.

We meet Killian, Zach and his twin Micha right away, and I fell in love with them all.
They all were drawn to Willow, and wanted to protect her.

Arianna, Willows daughter was a spitfire, and I adore her. She makes this story whole.

This duet had me at the edge of my seat the whole time, and I couldn’t put it down. All 900+ pages were read in 2 days, and the story was captivating!

It was an emotional roller coaster, with heartbreaking moments, amazing moments, and terrifying moments. This duet has it all. It’s a powerful story, with the most amazing characters.

It has all of these amazing tropes:
Reverse harem/why choose
Found family
Small town
Single mom
Traumatic past
Close proximity
Starting over/on the run
Grumpy/sunshine

If you enjoy them, you should definitely give this one a chance! Be sure to read the TW before you dive in, and enjoy! 🖤

This duet has also bonus scenes and extended epilogue, which was amazing!

Thank you Valentine Pr and J Rose for the opportunity to read this ARC.

This was the biggest book I’ve ever read, as it was the complete duet and it had over 1000 pages on my Kobo. But it was worth every second. I read it in a week (and I was working during the week) so you can believe me when I say that I flew by this book.

Don’t get me wrong, it has many moments that are hard to read (check the trigger warnings, please!) but it was so well written that I just wanted to keep going.

It was my first why choose romance/reverse harem and it was a very good first experience with this trope. I absolutely loved it, and how different the men were, but how each of them complemented the FMC in the best way possible.

The small town and found family were amazing, the drama surrounding the FMC’s escape with her daughter was perfect and, even though this was a huge book, I don’t think it was ever too much. In fact I want more. These characters deserve everything and I loved them.

This is not just a cute small town romance, please make sure you check your trigger warnings and protect your mental health. This is a book with some very dark themes at times.

This is one of the most heart-wrenching books I have ever read. When I started it I thought my heart wouldn’t survive this story but Oh my god it became one of my favorite books ever.
I read the duet separately and I received the ARC for the complete duet so I re-read it again it was like reading it for the first time and my heart broke all over again.
I think my eyes are still burning and puffy from crying.

I loved Willow so freaking much she was AMAZING her strength and bravery were to die for the girl just kept going and no one could ever stop her. Her strength was inspiring how she was determined to change hers and her daughter’s life was so beautifully written. I think she’s my favorite character.

And don’t get me started on Killian, Micah, and Zach, they were the best. Their relationship with each other and with their family in their town and then with Willow and her daughter was so sweet and I loved every one of them.

This is one of the stories that will not leave you no matter how much time passes after reading it. You just can’t stop thinking about them all.

I will read anything that J Rose writes and that will never change. I love experiencing the heartbreak and myriad of emotions she puts you through as a reader and the Briar Rose Duet was another example of how well she is at this.

We start off with Willow, a victim of years of abuse after being “sold” to her husband, manages to escape with her young daughter and go to Briar Valley, a place with the only family connection she has.

Along the way we meet the overbearing Killian, sweet and funny Zach, and Quiet and reserved Micah (did I mention Zach and Micah are twins 🥵)

Their journey to overcome Willows past and create a future for themselves has you crying, jumping for glee and straight up gasping through all the twists and turns.

This is my first J. Rose read. I really loved it and can’t wait to read more. I honestly went into this a little blind, I wasn’t expecting the darker aspects, me judging a book by it’s cover 🙄. That being said I loved the suprise and really enjoyed reading this duet. The development of the setting and story was fantastic, I could clearly build the world in my head. I loved the characters and as with any good why choose, each of the MMCs have their own perfect personalities that come together to form a found family. Willow and Arianna’s story is truly heartbreaking, but the story was beautiful. Can’t wait to catch up on the rest of the universe!

When I pulled this up on my kindle I was immediately intimidated by how freaking big this was, however it was such a good read. If you are looking for a cutesy, feel good romance you might want to pic a different book. However, if you are looking for strength, resilience, strong women, and found family this is for you.

Willow returns back to Briar Valley with her daughter trying to escape a pretty crazy situation with her husband. Coming home looking for a place to recover and move on, she did not expect to find the men that would soon be so important to her. I loved all the characters. Everyone has deep flaws and secrets. The sense of found family in this was truly magical and I hate up every second of it.

Please be advised that there is some pretty heavy topics in this, please check your warning to ensure this is the best fit for you!

Don't let this sweet, snowy, small town cover deceive you, J. Rose hasn't turned soft on us!

In the Briar Valley Collection you get both Where Broken Things Fly and Where Wild Things Grow. The collection follows the story of Willow, a young girl trafficked into an abusive relationship, her escape, and her quest to find peace for herself and her young daughter. This leads her to the quaint small town of Briar Valley and a few very capable men, but is Willow really safe from the life she fled?

This was not at all what I was expecting! I quickly was swept up into Willow's journey and thoroughly enjoyed all the twists and turns along the way. Her brood of men made for an interesting take on healing from her trauma, and I'm sure those who have read Rose before will be excited to see a familiar face or two. A really enjoyable read with a great balance of story and heat.

This is a duology which was previously published, but now has added content and scenes.
Willow is strong, brave, and resilient, and manages to escape from an abusive man who trafficked her as a vulnerable teenager, and with her little girl she heads home to Briar Valley in the Welsh mountains, to a self-contained settlement for a fresh start and safety. Willow meets Killan, Zach, and Micah, who all have their own demons and challenges.
This is a beautifully written story which is an action packed, emotional roller coaster, with family, friendships, drama, heartbreak, survival, challenges, and love, which leads to an entertaining, dark, tragic, haunting, and powerful small town romance.
I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.

At this point I will read J. Rose's grocery list if she would let me!! Something about the way she tells a story just pulls you in and captivates you from the very beginning. I flew through this duet. I haven't read a ton of Why Choose but I loved this one. It felt really natural between all the characters. I loved Willow, she was so strong, independent and brave for doing what she had to do to protect her and her daughter, I loved Killian, Zach, and Micah (Micah will always hold a special place in my heart, I LOVED his character.) This was one emotional rollercoaster, I was on the edge of my seat so many different times.

I am in complete awe!!! I have nothing but praise for this series. This is a bit different from what J Rose usually writes, but still very beautifully written. You can feel the raw emotions and struggles that Willow and the guys went through. While this was a more lighter J Rose book, this does still contain darker and heavy themes. Please make sure to mind your triggers. Highly recommend!!

Literally whatever J. Rose writes I’m reading it! This series was more on “it’ll tear you to pieces, but also put you back together” side. My heart ached for Willow and what she had gone through alone. All she wanted was to be happy and live a simple life with her daughter, but the past always caught up to her. Thankfully she had found some amazing men 😏 and a community that welcomed her with open arms. I have to say though out of Killian, Zach, and Micah …. I definitely loved Micah the most. 🥹 I just felt like he understood her better and knew what she needed even if he was the last to open up.

Briar Valley is a spicy, captivating read that keeps you hooked from start to finish. The heat level is intense, but it’s the depth of the characters—especially Willow—that truly stands out. Willow’s journey is full of layers, and she’s such a complex, well-written character that I couldn’t help but root for her the whole way through. The dynamic between Zach and Micah adds even more intrigue, as both men bring out different sides of Willow, making the story even more addictive. J Rose masterfully balances the passion with emotional depth, making this story unforgettable. If you love steamy romance with strong, complex characters, this one’s for you!!

After this book my trust in a lot of people is gone. Wow how many times Willow gets betrayed by people she thinks she can trust.
What Willow has been through is just not okay! Also little ariana she doesn't deserve all of those bad things!

Also i love Zach, Micha and Killian they are just everything and will do everything for Willow!!

MrSanchez on the other hand... throw him off a cliff please ooh my do i have many bad emotions for him!!

The twists and turns though!!! I was on the edge!!

This book made me laugh, cry and angry and i loved it!

The only thing that was meh for me was the pregnancy but i knew it before i started it so I can't say something bad about it!!

The Briar Valley duet had me on such an emotional roller coaster from the very start. It’s beautiful, heartbreaking and emotional. I loved Willow so much. She is just a mom who will do anything to protect her daughter and the ones she cares about. Even though she goes through so much she is such a brave and strong woman. We have our MMC's Killian, Zach and Micah who are so supportive and just want to keep Willow and her daughter safe. I love the relationships between each of them. The character development, storyline & spice are top notch. I definitely recommend this book!

I was hooked on this duet from the very beginning!

J rose has a way of connecting you to the characters, its hard to put the books down.

I am ALWAYS down to read a grumpy over protective MMC, and its a bonus when you also have a completely opposite MMC to compliment.
J knows how to write a STRONG FMC!!

Although this is a small town romance, it is definitely a darker romance. Please check your trigger warnings!

2.75⭐️ and im rounding up because I did initially like it. This duet was going super strong for me in the beginning. I feel like what happened is it got super repetitive. It’s a why choose, which is totally fine and I liked it, but it just got repetitive 🥶 I also was having issues with her nicknames for them low key, but that is totally a personal issue lmao. Idk maybe you would like it more than me, definitely check trigger warnings prior to reading.

This will either trigger or empowering someone that's been through DV. I personally felt so much pride reading this. A single mom (Willow) gets herself and her child out of an extremely abusive situation she was sold into at a young age of 16.
Finds long lost family in Briar Valley a little community up in the mountains of England & 3 gorgeous guys. Two of which are twins & a mountain of a man (they are cousin)
These 4 have a beautiful connection and go through everything ment to break them as a group.
This books Story line is packed with feels, spice and empowerment. Absolutely recommended.

& the hint for the next book coming in 2025 😱😍
I can't wait‼️

I’ve already read Briar valley but getting to read it in an omnibus with added content was absolutely amazing!

This duet is about what a mother will do to protect her baby. After being the property of a man for 10 years she decides it’s time to run. Not wanting what happened to her to happen to her daughter. Landing herself in Briar Valley. Here is where she meets Micah, Zach and Killian Three brothers who will do anything to make sure Willow and her daughter are okay.

This book is very heavy so please do take the Trigger warnings into account!

We also get a little cross over from my fav security teams!

This book includes these tropes and many more
-Why Choose
-Small Town
-Found Family
-Mutiple POVs
