A fascinating and wonderfully written book which connects interesting cricket and anecdotes and the tragedy of the war masterfully. The - and often quirky - cricketing memories of those involved are fun to read (the story of the sport's appearance and growth in a nation where it previously didn't exist at all is an interesting tale in itself), which makes the personal experiences of the horrors inflicted upon them all the more harrowing.
It can be emotionally difficult to read at times and those with no interest in the sport may be baffled by all the cricket terminology, but it's a brilliantly affecting read which I'd easily recommend to anyone with an interest in either cricket or what's happening to Ukraine. Glory to Ukraine!
