The life story of Percival G. Lowe, a soldier with the U.S. Army 1st Dragoons from 1849 to 1854. He rose quickly to the rank of 1st sergeant during the the troublesome times on the expanding western frontier of America. The first half of the book details the indian fights, thievery, desertion and campaigning with the cavalry. The second half follows Mr. Lowe's career as a wagon master, working mostly with the government transporting supplies, horses and mules to the military posts of the west. A remarkable story for a remarkable man.

A fantastic book that everyone should be able to keep up with and enjoy.

Outstanding first-person history of Ft. Leavenworth and what it was like as a Soldier in the Army in the frontier days. A must-read for anyone stationed at Ft. Leavenworth to help appreciate the early beginnings of the fort.
