That's [Para] Normal #5

Falling in Love with a Tiny Bat

Rate this book
“Snowflake?”

My stomach drops into my toes as I turn to find Alexios wandering through the evening like a wraith. The instant my eyes are on him, he stops. Takes a step back.

Scanning me from head to toe, he asks, “What’s wrong?”

“You got here fast.”

“You beckoned.” With all the elegance in the world, he bows. “I exist to serve.”

Facing him squarely, I cross my arms. “That’s a concerning statement coming from a faerie. You good, bro?”

His smile is devious and devilishly handsome when he lifts his head. “I did not specify who I exist to serve. It could be my prince, myself…or even you, if you could make it worth my time.”

My gut tangles up in knots at the mere notion.

“I believe I asked what’s wrong,” he says.

Well. For one, I have a flirty faerie soulmate in my driveway.

And, for two, I'm about to bind myself to him. Forever.

Camilla Evergreen is an alias of USA Today bestselling author Anne Stryker. Originally intended as a dumping ground for all things lacking fantasy, Camilla/Anne came to the shocking discovery that writing sarcastic, chaotic romcoms full of quippy heroines and adoring heroes has a kick to it.

Camilla/Anne’s neurodivergent tendencies leave her hyperfocused on writing sweet and sassy romances from dawn till dusk and lending whatever her current creative obsessions are to her characters. From arranged marriages to falling for the boss, there’s lots of love to go around.

I'm not going to lie, this book was a hard one for me. Not because it wasn't amazing but because it hit close to a lot of personal issues I've had to deal with in my life. I even had to take a break for a couple of days and come back to the book. Which I then binge read in a matter of hours. I say this all to explain that this book is deep! It deals with real issues and, as always in Camilla's books, read the trigger warnings. While Camilla's books are clean, they deal with nurodivergent characters with real trauma. Which is why I love them so much!! This book was no different. It made me laugh and it made me cry.

Zahra has both religious trauma and SA in her past. Xios isn't even a year old yet. They come together in the perfect blend of soulmate magic! I absolutely LOVED how Xios was so understanding and gentle with Zahra. He treated her how she needed to be treated and how everyone deserves. He brought her sweet starlight to the surface. On the other hand, Zahra brings excitement and new experiences to his life.

When trauma surfaces in their life, they weather the storm in true Faerie fashion, together and with lots of tears. Because tears are okay and healing. Falling in Love with a Tiny Bat, was therapy for me. I truly did go through all the emotions with this one, and the ending was satisfying for both me and the characters.

This is a RomCom, so there is plenty of laughing and sweet moments!

I don't know how Camilla does it, but she can write the words my soul needs. She truly is so amazing!

So much truth and light and grace, wrapped up with snark and sarcasm and shenanigans. Catharsis and redemption, healing and hope.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
GENRE
paranormal romcom with Christian themes

CONTENT
-🤬: none
-❤️: makeouts, some innuendo
-⚠️: childhood sexual & physical abuse, religious trauma (aka religion used as a weapon-- "be perfect or God won't love or want you"), PTSD, anxiety

Wow. This was a really heartbreaking but beautiful book. Zahra had an extremely traumatic childhood that included rape, abuse, and the weaponizing of Christianity. My heart broke for her and was simultaneously SO MAD because her parents were the worst. Her dad was monstrous but her mom made me feel rage-y. I loved seeing the way that Zahra had rebuilt her relationship with God to be healthier and authentic to her. That was precious and resonated with the way I view my Heavenly Father.

Alexios and Zahra worked really well together. I appreciated everything he did to make Zahra feel safe, especially after she revealed what had occurred in her past. I loved seeing all of the characters from the rest of the series. This is found family at its finest!

The amount of representation that Camilla has packed into this series is astounding. You've got: neurodivergence, heterochromia, poliosis, vitiligo, depression rep, suicidal thoughts, vegetarianism, sensory issues, SA rep, physical abuse rep, religious trauma rep, ARFID...and possibly albinism? (The word albino was mentioned in connection with Castor. I didn't realize the series wasn't over and that he'd be getting a book as well!)

Favorite Quotes:
😣Respectfully, God, I hate character development. I’m…tired.

😂The strange heat that sweeps down my spine is uncalled for. Yes, he’s very pretty. Yes, he was just humming Disney music to my baby. No, I simply cannot be this weak.

✨Nothing else begins to compare to the beauty of a soul.

❤️ “You are worthy. You are clean. You are wanted. And, my love, if you feel broken right now, you will be healed. If there are too many pieces for you to put back together on your own, if they’re so sharp they cut your hands when you try, I will take care of it. Until you feel whole again, I will be here, showing you the love you have always deserved.”

‼️ “I’ve found that worries are lighter when the burden of them is shared.”

Another great addition to the That’s (Para)Normal series. I was so excited to read this one and I was not disappointed. The cuteness of Alexios was off the scale and Zahra’s snark and wit were *chef's kiss*

Be warned readers, the background themes were very dark, with mentions of serious child abuse and sexual assault, religious trauma and violence. But despite all of that darkness, the author has given us a wonderful storyline filled with love and hope, laced with snarky wit and banter.

Zahra is a mother without a child, it’s the one thing she’s yearned for her entire life. When Alexios shows up on her doorstep with a stolen magical baby in need of care, she hesitates for maybe a microsecond before taking him in (and Alexios too). Zahra is more than a match for the emo man-child that is Alexios, keeping him at arm's length even though he constantly declares his love for her. She also helps him work through his food traumas by cooking and helping him track what foods he likes and dislikes. (FYI anyone who hates mushrooms as much as Alexios cannot be all bad as far as I’m concerned). He also takes care of her when she is sick and helps her through her childhood trauma, even though the knowledge of it hurts him greatly.

This book is book five of the That’s (Para)Normal series but can be read fine as a standalone, just the back story of the supporting characters makes the experience all the better and it’s always nice to revisit previous characters.

With only one more book to go in the series and a nice sneak preview at the end, I am eager for the final book, although I will be sorry to see the series end.

Falling in Love with a Tiny Bat is the fifth book in the That's (Para)Normal series. While you may be able to enjoy this as a standalone, I definitely recommend reading the previous books in the series first to better understand and enjoy it. This will give you more understanding of this world the author has created and the relationships between all of these characters.

As always, Camilla Evergreen has done a masterful job of combining tough topics and mental health struggles with sarcasm and humor (and fantasy) in a way that just works in a way that only she can pull off. She also does a great job of letting readers know what to expect before reading, and I cannot stress this enough--- please DO read that note before deciding if this one is right for you. While all of the books in the series have touched on some difficult topics, I think this one definitely touches on some that are a little darker and that I personally found difficult to read myself--- although the author does a great job of handling them with sensitivity and could be quite therapeutic, by nature, they were harder to read about. Read the warning and take care of your mental health. Zahra and Xios were such wonderful, complex characters with fantastic banter, and I couldn't help but be drawn into their story. It definitely has me looking forward to what will happen next in the series too.

Falling in Love with a Tiny Bat is a closed-door romance with kisses only. It does have a bit of minor language.

**ARC received for consideration. All opinions are my own.

The bat is adorable. The banter is witty. Getting to see all of our favorites from previous books is also pretty great. The baby is a baby. Hard topics are brought up including abuse, rape and religion not being what it should be. The LARPing is fun. Clean. Highly enjoyable read and romantic comedy, complete with paranormal elements galore. I love this series and my highest praise is wanting to reread a book. This one is on the reread list.

I struggle to write a review that offers a fresh or unique perspective than what others have already masterfully described!

Camilla’s stories are such a blend of both her incredibly niche humor/storylines and flawlessly accurate human experience—specifically neurodivergent human experience. Just when I think I’ve found an author who speaks so deeply to my own unique perceptions and feelings in life, I read the reviews and find so many others who feel the same and I realize maybe none of us are quite as alone in our quirks or differences as we think we are.

The part of me who begs for uniqueness loves how out-of-the-box her stories often are (specifically in this series), but the lonely, gaping wound of “otherness” I’ve often felt is soothed by her ability to flesh out her characters in a way that makes them undoubtedly relatable in some form or fashion to nearly everyone who would come across her books.

Xios and Zahra are complicated, petulant at times, mischievous, oppositional to one another in ways that “work” together even when they’re both struggling in different ways to orient themselves in a world not quite meant for them. In the end, they are soulmates after all.

At times I felt Zahra’s discomfort with Alexios’s tenderness and affection as if it were my own. When she squirmed under his earnestness, so did I. But when he slowly began to break down her walls of distrust and resistance to love, I started to warm to his words and actions too.

This particular story was not insta-love for the MCs or for myself. I read it more slowly than the others before it in the series, I am not a gamer nor an anime fan so at times I was pulled out of the story simply for not understanding a reference (though she does an admittedly good job at keeping it simple or quickly explaining certain verbiage) and I have my own deeply painful wounds in regards to religion/God/parents/and the shame of sexual abuse. Still, I saw the value in continuing the book and I’m glad that I did. It gave off all the vibes of a cozy, modern-day romantasy but with the depth of self-help book wrapped up in a funny little bat boy/gamer girl slow burn romance.

In conclusion, like most of her stories, this book won’t be for everyone but everyone will likely find something they can take from it that will impact them in a positive way.

Thank you, Camilla Evergreen!

Holy cow… how can this series possibly manage to get better with each book- especially when I (silly me) gave book 1 a review of 5 stars? What is a girl to do?

Give the series 5 stars across the board and wish you had more to hand out.

Xios and Zahra are so much fun together and I loved the ride so much. I can’t say I identify with Zahra much, given our only common ground is the inability to have children, but her story (while heartbreaking) made me love her attitude of rising above all the more delightful.

Her sense of humor and sarcasm was charming. She may have had a bit too much fun at Alexios’s expense, but I’m willing to grant that to her. I’m nice like that. I loved how her arc finally allowed us to see who she was, because she’s been such an interesting side character up until now and finally getting to know her felt more like I made a friend rather than just being entertained.

However, there is a serious warning from the author at the start. Zahra’s past includes rape from a family member. The subject is handled delicately and the reveal does not give details or go in-depth, but it could make for uncomfortable reading regardless, so approach with caution if you or someone you know have been assaulted. My heart goes to all who have been treated so cruelly.

Alexios may be harsh voicing his opinions, but he truly is Zahra’s perfect partner. If you weren’t loving him before, he will capture your heart without fail here. Sure there’s the question of why he wants a soul so badly, and the fact he kidnapped a dryad sapling before it fruited, but he’s only a year old- cut the cute formal-wearing and adorably teensy Honduran bat some slack already.

Bonus, Castor is soooo much fun here as the bestest sidekick comic relief to date! I was bouncing up and down to find out Castor’s finally going to get a love story all his own!

Can I swoon that out wannabe kidnapper is going to bite off more than he can chew in the future? Oh, heck yeah.

So what to read in the meantime… I really want to go back to the start and read them again, especially now that I know where so many of the pieces have landed. I won’t- I’ll have the reread for now, but I am so happy to have stumbled across this author and series.

Tiny Bat - small but mighty

I received an ARC copy of this book, but would have gotten it anyway without that copy because Camilla Evergreen‘s books are just so good. I’m a bit delayed in getting this review written, because I am one of those inland folks affected by Tropical Storm Helene. We got our power back yesterday afternoon, and are still waiting on internet access. Since Camilla lives a little north of us, which was harder hit, I hope that she is OK too.

I really wasn’t sure that I would like Alexios’ character, since I had met him in some of the previous books in the series, but he was perfect in so many ways for Zahra. I knew that I would like Zahra, because she works with children, and I am a teacher. As I got into the book, I realized that Zahra and I had something else in common - the desire to be a mother that was unfulfilled. I think that this part of the book was written well, and I recognized a kindred soul. It’s amazing how many different characters Camilla writes, with many different types of issues, but I find something to connect to in each of her characters.

The traumatic moments in the book were handled with great grace and understanding. Please reading the warnings ahead of time, but I think that this book will not disappoint you if you can handle the triggers. As a woman who always wanted children, and who works with tweens, I cannot understand how anybody could ever hurt anyone of these precious little ones, but evil does exist in the world. If you were so abused, my prayers go out to you.

The banter, as always, was delightfully delivered. You cannot help but laugh out loud at some of the dialogue. Although there are serious issues in this book, you will finish reading it with an uplifted heart and know that everyone is good enough, just the way they are.

I am not usually one for fantasy reading, but Falling in Love with a Tiny Bat has changed my mind! It was everything I have come to expect from a Camilla Evergreen novel AND MORE! The wit, sass, sarcasm, humor, and love are out in full force in this enemies to lovers, forced proximity, fantasy romance. It made me feel all the things. Camilla captures the human (and not-so-human) experience so well. I have never finished one of her novels without feeling like I am more understood by others and myself.

Before venturing into it, PLEASE READ the Reader Expectation guidelines and the Author Warning at the beginning. This story dives into some very deep topics including SA and religious trauma. I had to put it down a few times to protect my mental health, but picked it up again and again because the story is just THAT GOOD.

Finishing this story was absolutely worth it. It is a story of love, redemption, learning to love yourself, and to accept love from others you may not feel worthy of. Zahra and Alexios (Xios) both have major things they deal with, but it was lovely to watch as they both learned not only to accept who they are but also accept that it’s okay to change and adapt and grow. They both learn how to trust others with their…everything. Their sarcastic, flirty banter is so well done. They are truly opposites in so many ways but somehow, they come through it all.

This is the 5th book in the That’s (Para)Normal series. It is the first I have read and it works as a standalone, but I know I would have understood a lot more sooner had I read the first 4 books prior to this one. They are all on my TBR and I can’t wait to dive in while anxiously awaiting the 6th and final book in the series.

Read the Author’s Warning. Please.
It’s real. Discussion of horrible human actions.

I’m not sure where to start with this one.
I guess let me start with the fact that once again, this is not my typical genre. But I was engaged and caught up in the story and characters until the very end.
That’s how this author’s writing is for me.
I am eagerly looking forward to the next book in this series.

I was hesitant to become attached to the “villain” but this book convinced me.

The way the author wrote with minimal romance and yet I felt the growth and connection between the main characters in a believable way, was enchanting.
I love small moments so much more than the big grand dramatic moments which are so frequently chosen for romance stories. The author gave space for someone who has been cruelly mistreated space for healing and choice. And someone who is new to life and needs time to adjust to everything space for comfort. I don’t know if that hits for anyone else but I was grateful it wasn’t a “instantly perfect relationship with attraction and physical intimacy no matter that fact that both participants have trauma and need for growth”.

The humor, as always, was spot on for me.

Romance was mild.
Violence was discussed but nothing on page.
Religion was endearing. Nothing preached, only felt. The character was a Christian, but it wasn’t about converting the unbelieving characters or other readers.
It was simply a book whose main character loved Jesus because she felt he loved her and rescued her from despair.

HEA

Ending was satisfying while also setting up perfectly for the next (and final) story of the series.

I honestly cannot put to words how much I loved this book. FIRST: This is a paranormal romcom, it is not a Christian book. It is hilarious. I also cried. There are faerie creatures. It is absolutely set in a paranormal world, but there are also beautiful, fundamentally human, and simple faith truths, and it’s wonderful.

Camila Evergreen has such a way with shining light and unconditional acceptance into the lives of characters who have faced very dark traumas. In this book, Zahra has faced religious abuse and SA, and while she definitely has some major scars and internal battles to face, she has retained such kindness and love. Zahra is also flawed and not *always* kind. I love the raw, humorous, intelligent, and sometimes messy ways she works out her faith as compared to the twisted version of “Christianity” she was raised under. She *gets* how it’s supposed to be.

The author doesn’t shy away from being extremely clear about the horrific ways Zahra’s abusers misused and twisted scripture for their own purposes. But she also doesn’t shy away from using scripture properly to shed God’s love and light into Zahra’s world. Zahra’s prayers are frankly hilarious and I love her.

Xios is a delightful match to her. The gift he is and how he embodies God’s selfless love in her life totally got me. The side characters are awesome. Even the villains are complicated and nuanced. This is easily my favorite series of her backlist. She’s created and populated wonderful world. (I no longer leave ratings since I’m an author, but I can’t *not* use my words when I read something exceptional.)

Bottom Line:
“This is a story about healing from wounds that never should have been.”
Beautifully executed, this book brings light to dark places and hope to sad souls. I am grateful for the bravery it took to write such an impactful story with so much heart, cleverness, and sensitivity while remaining honest and genuine.

Fancy Stuff:
Considering the potential for heaviness in this book, I zoomed through it. I would have read more happily. No slump halfway through. The epilogue ties things up nicely, and I can’t wait for the next in series.

Evergreen does a great job with some heavy and very real topics that so many struggle with. It’s beautifully done. Honoring the struggle and emotions that come with trauma. Asking real questions. Showing real emotions. While simultaneously permeating the story with hope, growth, humor, and magic✨
The struggle doesn’t magically evaporate, but it does gradually become less isolating, less hopeless, less defining for the characters involved. They grow from a “because of” (which is perfectly valid) to the powerful “in spite of.”
I loved it.

As always, read the warnings and don’t skip the beginning of the book. It turns out wonderfully and takes you on a journey.

Tiny Bat definitely has a place on my shelf.

Summed Up:
🦇no explicit content
🦇read the warnings/triggers
🦇whimsical + quirky
🦇honest + brave
🦇definitely recommend

The moment this ARC landed on my Kindle I eagerly jumped right in! I have spent the weeks since really thinking about this book and how it was so different from the others in the series. As so many others have said, this book touches on some very tough subject matter and it is incredibly important to make sure that you, as a reader, are in a safe place mentally to be able to handle the content. Always make sure to read the content & trigger warnings at the beginning of a book before diving in!

Since the subject matter was quite different, I found this book to be more plot driven around a single character, compared to the others in the series that were more about over all character and world building. That being said, I found that this book read closer to a platformer, whereas the others in the series read more like an RPG with the world/ character details. I personally think this book would have really shined bright as a standalone with possibly a little bit of added length to really highlight the main characters together. At times while reading this book I found the story to be more focused on ‘What Would Jesus Do?’, which left me wanting to know ‘What Would Zahra Do?’.

All of that being said, Camilla is a wizard at character creation and development, and I am very much looking forward to the next chapter of this series!

This book wrecked me in the best way

I have loved all of the "That's (Para)Normal" books. To be perfectly honest, I love all of Camilla Evergreens books that I've read, which is nearly everything.
This one really resonated, though. Which is a little weird considering there's a lot of Zhara's experiences that I don't have any personal experience with. A lot of Zhara's childhood experiences are not what I experienced directly (though people I'm very close with 100% did). But the struggle between what you were taught was biblical and scriptural and what is truly biblical in scriptural, wanting to be like Christ while very much not wanting to be like most Christians that you've encountered. It's devastating.
I have a son who came very close to qualifying for an ARFID diagnosis, Camilla's representation of ARFID is spot on like her representation of other disabilities and neurodivergences.
This book wrecked me in the best ways.
For a long time, I thought falling in love with the man of my nightmares was my favorite of this series, but this one after my reread of this book. This is my favorite. And I love how everyone is regarding Castor. I can't wait for his book. I know it may be sometime. She's working on other things right now, but I am very much anxious for Castor's book.

I love love love the way this author wrestles with hard things. Once again I have been blown away by the care and consideration she has for her readers (read the warnings and author notes), the way she handles mental health struggles compassionately, realistically, and with appropriate levels of humor and snark. This book includes a mfc who has struggled to reconcile the way she was raised (ultra conservative religious manipulation) with her own understanding of a loving God.
For fans of the author, this book contains significantly more religious discussion than any of her others, but done in a way that it is very much the MFC's faith, and not pushed on anyone else. Xios and Zahra have been two of my favorite side characters from previous books and I felt like this book did both justice. I so very much wanted to see them both find their soul mates in each other - and I love that this was done in a way that showed her wrestling with her own past hurts and lack of trust in other people.
A dual pov book, this book is book 5 in a series of stand-alone books; I do think it can be read by itself, but is far more fun if you know the histories depicted in the other found family characters. This book left me itching for book 6 (but also sad that the series is almost done)!

I had no doubts that Alexios’ book would be a delight to read and I’m thrilled to say that I was not only right but I loved it even more than I hoped. There is so much to talk about when sharing the well written plot and the marvelous characters but I’m going to try to keep it spoiler free. What is most important, I think, is that both Alexios and Zahra are determined to care deeply and well for those in their circle of influence. To that end, we see moments of sacrifice, sarcasm to bring smiles and laughter and incredible love in action. They each have some big issues to work through but they also give the needed space and support to the other so past hurts can be resolved. No unrealistic expectations are placed on anyone and I loved this part of the story. And their interactions with other characters from the series was both fun and enlightening. Definitely recommend you check out this book and the whole series if you like your romcoms with a little different slant than the norm.

I received a copy of this story from the author via BookFunnel. I am not required by anyone to write a positive review and the opinions expressed herein are entirely my own.

This book was so unexpected and so good! Be sure to read the authors note at the beginning with the trigger warnings as this is definitely not for everyone.

This can be read as a standalone, but you will get more out of it if you’ve read the previous books, particularly Falling In Live With the Moth Faerie Prince and Falling in Love With the Man of My Nightmares. Zarah has so much pain inside her, but still so much hope. It’s really inspiring. I love seeing how she turns to her faith for that hope, even through SO much darkness and the times when it is hard to be patient for God’s timing.

Xios came into being out of pain, which gives him a unique ability to perceive and take Zarah’s pain. He doesn’t judge her, he just loves her for everything she is. It’s a beautiful love.

This is a love story, but more about the love between souls than a focus on romance. It’s very unique, definitely not a traditional romcom. It’s fun to see characters from the earlier books and learn more about Castor!

* First things first, please read the Reader Expectations and the Author's Warning at the beginning of the book before reading this book.

If you have never read a book by Camilla Evergreen, you are in for a unique experience! She writes neurodivergent characters in a way that truly gives insight. Her writing is genius, full of biting wit and sarcasm, and her books will leave you with a huge book hangover.

This book in particular deals with some dark and traumatic events. However, the message of the book is beautiful and it's one that many need to hear. Simply put..."You are worthy". This is a story of love (learning to love yourself, learning to accept love from others, and feeling worthy of love), redemption, and character growth.

This is the fifth book in Camilla's That's (Para)Normal series, and while it can be read as a stand alone, you will find that you will understand the world the story is set in and enjoy the story itself more if you read the books in order.

I honestly feel like this was the best book yet in the series, Alexios and Zahra complement each other so well. Throw in some Castor and a little sprinkling of Alana and Willow, and you know this will be an amazing book. Also, I didn’t think Castor was going to steal the show as much as he did and it was amazing, Castor is so my favourite character.

Alexios showed so much growth throughout the last few books, from demanding his soon-to-be stepmother's soul to gently asking his soulmate for hers. He was such a loving man, who used a sledgehammer to break down Zahra's walls around her heart, with his words and actions.

Zahra. Oh, that poor woman. Such a strong individual, she just needed a gentle push to open her heart up, or you know, A sledgehammer. Gosh, she has too much love to give, and for her to think she didn’t deserve it? Preposterous.

What an amazing book! I love the way the author presents Christianity. Zahra is a Christian, but not preachy at all. She's real with herself and God. It's beautiful. Our heroine has had to deal with horrible trauma, yet she still chooses to love people, to care, and to hope. She's extremely sarcastic and guarded, but she's open to challenge and change. When Alexios (Xios, the tiny bat/fae) says he is her faerie soulmate, she keeps her walls up high. When he offers her the chance to have what she never thought possible, she's a little more open to the possibilities.
This author is one of my favorites. This is a terrific book, very clean and a great story. Yes, there is mentions of trauma, but Ms. Evergreen handles it with so much grace.
Can't wait for the next in the series!

Such a great book! I love this series! You can definitely read this as a stand alone but the series is great!

One great thing about Camilla's book is her trigger warnings. Be sure to read the trigger warnings for this book before you read it. It discusses some very difficult topics.

Another great thing about Camilla is how she approaches difficult topics and how her characters handle it. It is so amazing to see the growth of each of the characters in this story. They are so relatable!

This book is a clean romance. The two main characters definitely have their own way of being romantic. It's fun to see their sense of humor. Throw in the fae to the mix and it's a great combination! Definitely a book worth reading!

Here are just a few of the things I love about this book:

I love Zahra’s relationship with God and that she calls Him “Sir.”
I love that babies are part of the story now.
I love how good the banter is.
I love how real Camilla’s characters and their struggles are. Her books are why people say novel reading expands your empathy.
I love how this series has been building and how much this book added to that, and I’m pretty sad there’s only one book left.

As usual, Camilla’s books are full of all the best tropes and get all the stars from me. Pick this one up today in Kindle Unlimited!

Camilla tackled some heavy subjects in this latest book, but I think she did so in an excellent way. Some of the stuff Zahra has gone through definitely made this a bit more of a somber read than some of Camilla's usual work, but it is no less of a masterpiece. After being teased with Alexios in the previous books of the series, it was a delight to get to know this adorable bat more. The truths that both he and Zahra learn throughout the story, combined with the supporting cast of characters and the quick wit and banter, makes this a read worthy of any TBR, even with the heavier subjects.

Note: Do read the trigger warnings at the start of the book!

Thank you to Camilla Evergreen for providing me with an ARC for this book!

This was another lovely book in Camilla’s (Para)normal series.

I will admit though that, as the warnings at the beginning of the book state, this book deals with some heavy and, for many people, painful topics. This book handled those topics very respectfully without downgrading or softening the seriousness of the topics.

Camilla brings her usual humor and softness to the romance within the story, and I enjoyed it thoroughly!

This is definitely a book that I am going to read several more times and makes me excited to see how Camilla is going to wrap up this series!

This book was so unique. Alexios knows what he wants and is willing to sacrifice anything and everything to get it (her). Zahra has finally been fleshed out with a backstory, but it is not a pleasant one at all. Camilla is thoughtful enough to give warnings before the reader begins; I could see where some readers would not be comfortable with the subject matter woven through the plot, but it is not gratuitous at all. I feel it was tastefully handled. I enjoyed the things both Alexios and Zahra had to discover in order to find their true soulmate attachment, and can't wait to read about Castor next!

I absolutely loved this story! Zahra definitely has had a rough past but the fact that she is trying to move past it and better herself is so uplifting. I love the sarcastic banter between Zahra and Alexios and how easy their friendship is. I also enjoyed the banter with Castor and how he just slide into the relationship and was essentially a package deal. Even though he is the “villain” I feel like he fits right in with Zahra and Alexios and the family they built.
This is a dual pov, clean paranormal romance. It is part of a series but can be read as a stand alone novel.

Didn't See This Coming

I love this author's books, especially this (Para)Normal series. What I didn't expect was such a clear presentation of the love of God as well as how it can be perverted by hurting, hurtful people. Alexios is an amazing being and a perfect soul mate for Zahra. I love the amazing story and fae kingdom and all the relationships, powers, and beings in it. I so look forward to the next story. There was so much pain to get through in this book, but it was done so graciously and lovingly. Well done!

Loved Z and Xios' story! But I did have trouble getting through So Much Christianity. At times it felt like a sermon, and I wasn't in the mood. Plus, it's dropped into the story without preamble - it was never addressed or even hinted at in earlier books. But Z has a troubled past that fits the narrative, and as this is a sweet romance I assume the author is very much Christian. (As am I, but it felt off-putting, reading so much Christianity in a fantasy world.) Still, the characters are awesome as always, and I can't wait to read Castor's story!
