Shawn Kupfer was born on Ellsworth Air Force Base in the Rapid City, South Dakota area in July 1978. Most of his childhood was spent bouncing from one military town to another, travelling across the United States and the world on the dime of the U.S. Air Force. In his younger days, he had stints working as a semi-professional kickboxer, a defense contractor, a magazine editor, and a general "pick this up and put it over there" laborer.

In February 2009, Shawn anonymously started the Twitter Novel Project, where he posted novel-length works in 140-character chunks. In July of that year, he abandoned the anonymity factor. The second Twitter Novel Project book, 47 Echo, was picked up for publication by Carina Press soon after. He continues to update the Twitter Novel Project several nights a week, as well as working on other novel projects (both in and out of the 47 Echo universe). He currently lives in the Dallas Fort-Worth Metroplex with his wife, Lisa, and their two dogs, Sadie and Edie. In his spare time, he enjoys travelling to Las Vegas and New Orleans.

The phrase "if it can go wrong, it will" describes this mission to a tee. Thankfully, our intrepid heroes are at their best when they are making things up as they go. I honestly wasn't sure if I would get into a military book, but this one was more about the guys (and girls) and their interpersonal relationships, in my opinion. The characters were so well written, you find yourself on the edge of your seat every time their mission doesn't go according to plan. The action was fast paced, which made the book a quick read. The setting was well described and helped set the mood for the story.

In summary, I enjoyed this book very much and look forward to reading the next in the series. Highly recommend.

5/5 stars.

I received a copy of this book free of charge in exchange for my honest opinion.

This is one sequel that I think surpassed its predecessor. I thoroughly enjoyed book 1 but book 2 simply captured my attention from the first page and kept me enthralled with every mishap that Nick Morrow managed to pull his team out of. And those mishaps were many.

Nick continues to shine as the leader of his band of misfits. He utilizes his resources - namely the skills of the men and women that he meets along the way - and his quick mind makes his team as slippery as a greased pig. Yes, they truly can work their way out of any situation. Just when their world is about to come crashing down, a sudden twist sets them free and has them heading back in the direction of their main objective.

The hints we're getting about how bad things are in the States (conscription for minor offenses) coupled with the near total devastation of New York makes me very curious as to where Nick's story will go. Things are already bad for the convicts and I imagine they're going to get much worse before they get better. Add Nick's predicament at the end of the book in and I'm already wide-eyed at how crazy book 3 is going to be.

Solid writing, engaging characters and one incredibly lucky leader left me on the edge of my seat. Nick's story isn't over and he's going to have a hell of a time fighting his way out of this one.

This is the story of Nick Morrow. He is an Asian American lieutenant in charge of 47 Echo. Set in the future, the units are made up of convicts. Due to the Convict Conscript Act, prisoners are used almost as human shields to the regular forces. To Nick, his unit are his friends and he will guard them with his life. China is at war with the US and now Nick and his rag tag unit are being sent on an almost suicide mission to Shanghai. Can he complete the objective and get everyone out alive or is everyone doomed?

This was a great, action filled story. I loved the characters and I felt for them, always being sent on suicide missions as they were seen as being expendable. The pace was fast and the action unrelenting. The story itself was an interesting one, set in the future. It was a future however that anyone could recognise (apart from the China/Russia war with the US!). The characters were believable, and Nick stood out as the hero, who, having paid his dues, had earned the right to lead his team as a regular Marine. I enjoyed this very much and would be happy to read more from this author.

just finished and it is even better than the first one in this series. I think Nick Morrow reminds me a little bit of one of My other favorite fictional heroes: it is Richard Sharpe from the historical novels by Bernard Cornwell. It is the same fiercely loyal and inventive man who does everything for his men and everything for the cause even if he is an outsider. And I really like his band of misfits (also parallel to the Sharpe Stories)
I like that Nick isn`t only a killing machine/marine but that he still has scruples when he has to kill people.
What I still not really know is what started the war ?
Maybe I`ll find out in the next book, starting to read now.

I love it when a sequel is even better than the original. Mr. Kupfer accomplished that with this book.
