But as their relationship blossoms, Scarlet’s buried secrets claw to the surface, bringing unforeseen perils with them. Can Matt protect Scarlet from the shadows of her past? Or will her skeletons destroy their future?

Her love for romance started with the Sunfire books, a YA historical romance series. Shattered Secrets is the 4th book in the Hudson Island series. This one is Matt and Scarlet's story. I have been looking forward to this couple for a while and I ended up staying up late to read this book in one sitting. Matt has always become so tongue tied around Scarlet in past books, so I knew their story would be so good. I wasn't disappointed.
It's hard to talk about the book without giving away spoilers. Let's jut say that when they get together it's explosive. I loved that their story was a slow burn. This couple just really made sense. Both of them have a lot of baggage from their past, but their relationship was the medicine that allowed their wounds to heal. I also loved the relationship that formed between Matt and little Daisy. It was really cute. As with the other books in the series, there is a mystery and some action. I was glued to my seat. I highly recommend this one as well as the series. I can't wait for Gavin's story!

Scarlett is a single mom who works at the local diner to support her and her daughter Daisy. Scarlett has had to start over after a traumatic past that put her in danger. Matt has also started over after a divorce & and an injury while in the police force. Matt has worked hard to where he is now today with therapy, the help of his friends, & time. Matt frequents the diner where Scarlett works & has always been a blubbering mess around her. Scarlett thinks she has no chance with Matt since he is so much older. When Scarlett’s apartment gets broken into, Matt offers Scarlett & her daughter his house to stay while her apartment is being repaired.
This is the fourth book of the Hudson Island series. I have only read the third book & now this one & have really enjoyed them! The relationship between Matt & Daisy is just so stinking cute. Daisy ends up having Matt wrapped around her finger! Scarlett has been through some insane trauma which you find out throughout the story, but the twists & turns that kept happening throughout had me on the edge of my seat! I definitely recommend this book for my romantic suspense loving friends!
Aaaaaah, i just read this book in one sitting and I want a man like Matt Alvarez right now!! I think this is the last in this series, but it is one of the best!
Scarlett is a single mother of a 4 year old Daisy, she is 23 years and a waitress! She is sooo sweet and compassionate and i love her, also, the way she was hyping Poppy in the previous book instantly made her a favourite!
Matt was a detective and now works in the private sector! He is 40 years old, so we got an age gap romance, and it was beautifully written! So, Matt has a crush on Scarlett for a year now and he finally started to open up to the possibility of a relationship with her!
The crime plot was good here! Scarlett's past followed her to Hudson Island and she was in so much risk! This book was a bit heavy, like "shattered vows" it deals with sensitive topics, such rape!
Favourite scene in this book was honestly the proposal! It was the cutest thing ever 🥹😍 i finally understood what the expression "my ovaries are reacting" thanks to that scene!
Favourites: Favourite MC: (Cade De La Rosa😍😍😍 that anchor comment lives rent free in my mind) Favourite FC: (Roxxane from Shattered Illusions) Favourite book: (Shattered Vows. The crimes, the cuteness of it was beautiful) Favourite couple: (Matt and Scarlett 😍😍)
I loved Shattered Secrets, an incredible romantic thriller by Christina Sol, the fourth book in her Hudson Island series. Who does not love an age gap romantic thriller with a happily ever after ending? It was an incredible story and I loved reading every moment on every page and it was impossible to put it down. Shattered Secrets was an amazing story and I highly recommend it if you love a romantic thriller. I can honestly say that Shattered Secrets is one of the most enjoyable romantic thrillers that I have read recently. It was bittersweet for me since it was the last book in the Hudson Island series. Christina Sol provided her readers with the amazing characters that I loved, who feel like close friends! Her characters in Shattered Secrets are so believable and charming, they share great chemistry, lots of laughs, and steamy romance. I love how she developed the story line and the characters. Shattered Secrets is the story of Scarlet Miller, waitress and single mom of four-year-old Daisy, and former Seattle Police Department detective, Mateo “Matt” Alvarez. Scarlet and Matt are both awkward around each other, Matt barely talks to Scarlet. Matt is attracted to Scarlet but is concerned about their age difference and the fact that she has a young daughter. Matt is in Hudson Island recovering from a gunshot wound. During his recovery he decided to retire from the SPD and accept a position at Hudson Security. Scarlet’s apartment is broken into and trashed while she and Daisy are at home and asleep. Matt shows up and takes Scarlet and Daisy home to his house to stay until renovations are made on her apartment. I love Matt’s relationship with Daisy and how she calls him “Matty”, and he calls her “Otter Pop” after the popsicles that she loves. I love Daisy’s reaction when she first sees Matt’s tattoos. As Matt and Scarlet continue to spend time together things begin to change between them. They each realize that they have feelings for one another, and things heat up between them. I love the chemistry between Scarlet and Matt, how the sparks fly when they are near one another and that it was more than chemistry, it was love. Mysterious events happening around Hudson Island cause Scarlet and Daisy to be protected by bodyguards. I love everything that Gavin, Matt, and their team do to investigate what is going on and keep Scarlet and Daisy safe. I love everything that Matt does for Scarlet to keep her safe. I love how Scarlet shares with Matt her childhood and everything that happened in her life and how she ended up pregnant at nineteen and Matt shared with Scarlet the highs and lows of his career and his marriage and divorce. They shared things with one another that they had not shared with anyone before. I love Matt and Scarlet’s love story, and how Scarlet shows her vulnerable side to Matt. Then an unexpected plot twist changes things between them, putting Scarlet and Daisy’s lives in danger. Loved how Gavin Frazier and his team at Hudson Tactical was able to determine who was behind the mysterious events. It kept me on the edge of my seat how they were going to solve who was behind and what was going on with regard to Scarlet’s past. I love all the changes that both Scarlet and Matt are willing to make in their lives because of their love for one another. One of my favorite parts of Shattered Secrets is the epilogue that takes place at Poppy and Cade’s wedding and that Matt proposes to Scarlet during the bouquet toss. I love that Matt gave Daisy a gift, too. I also love the bonus epilogue and how it went above and beyond a happily ever after. I love the surprise that Matt’s twin brother, Jake gave to Matt at the end of the love story. It was a wonderful part of their love story. I love the characters in Shattered Secrets, the characters feel like family and friends. I enjoyed all the interactions between Scarlet, Matt, Four, Quinn, Gavin, Cade, Poppy and the other team member, it feels like real family love and makes me laugh at their teasing. Also, loved catching up with Jake and Carmen. Another favorite part of the book is how the cover on the book is incorporated into the love story. I love the relationship between Gavin and his team. Who does not love family and friends that always have each other’s backs? Shattered Secrets is filled with all those things that I love in a romantic thriller, incredible characters, amazing story, poignant and bittersweet moments, and surprise plot twists. Christina Sol did not disappoint in her delivery of those things. I love how she resolved the surprise plot twist; it was truly a heartwarming moment. Looking forward to reading the next book in her new Hudson Security series which starts with Gavin Frazier. I received an advanced copy from the author.
Been looking for a new romantic suspense author to add to my collection along side Catherine Cowles. FOUND NEW ROMANTIC SUSPENSE AUTHOR!! DE-VOUR-ED in one night.
1. the age gap had me signing up and reading immediately! I'm always, ALWAYS down for an age gap romance. 2. the suspense and plot twist had me squeezing the sides of my kindle because I wasn't ready!
Although this was the fourth (and last) book in the Hudson Island series, I read it first. Per normal with me. lol I'll be back tracking because my tbr can never be long enough, no worries. This was Matt and Scarlet's story. After leaving the Seattle PD as a detective, Mateo (Matt) settles on Hudson Island in his brother's 'vacation' house. He takes up a position with Hudson Security run by his buddy Gavin. Matt (40) has been a growly, one/two word asshole to single mom Scarlet since laying eyes on her. He struggles with the age difference but mainly the reason for not being able to talk around her is because he fell instantly and hard and he's massively nervous. It was cute to watch him honestly not know how to act around her.
Scarlet (23) is a single mom with a shady past. Working at the small island town diner and trying to provide the best life for her little girl, Daisy, has been her main focus since stepping foot on Hudson Island. She thinks Matt's growly asshole exterior is sexy but realistically knows her crush on him will never be returned due to her age.
A break in at her apartment pushed the two of them into close quarters, Matt's house. And then everything falls into place from there. The suspense and twists had me on edge the entire night. (Another overnight, no sleep read for me.) I didn't see chapter 17 coming at all. I love, loVE, LOVED Matt's relationship with Daisy, Otter Pop as he's nicknamed her. I loved watching Matt become a safe place for Scarlet to land. These two were perfect for each other. As much as Matt was Scarlet's safe place...she in turn became his from the baggage of his past. I cain't wait to back track read this whole series and cain't wait to have the spin off of Hudson Security. It'll be fun to see who Bean ends with.
Congrats on this beautifully written book with all its plot twists that kicked me in the face. Thank you Christina Sol for trusting me with an early copy of this and my 4am dm about Lilo! And thank you to Grey's Promotions for the ARC opportunity!!
There's nothing quite like a captivating romance novel that tugs at your heartstrings and leaves you breathless with anticipation. Shattered Secrets is the fourth installment of the Hudson Island series with Matt and Scarlet.
If you follow my blog, you know I'm not a big fan of age gap romance and this one is a 17-year difference. However, I believe Scarlet's tragic past gives her a maturity that no woman her age should have endured, and Matt's past gives him a right to relax and enjoy life with the family he always wanted.
I adore Mateo "Matt" Alvarez's kind and protective ways hidden by his growly alpha exterior. His awkward tongue-tied meetings with the beautiful and cheerful Scarlet Miller are delightful. However, it's his precious moments with the adorable 4-year-old Daisy Miller, nicknamed Otter Pop, that turned my heart to mush.
Scarlet is a strong, resilient woman and under her cheery demeanor she has insecurities about being a good mother and providing for her little girl. Sharing her past with Matt is a moment of vulnerability and courage, and her reticence gives way to a moving display of trust, as she takes a leap of faith and shares her heartbreaking past with sweet Matt who does not judge her.
Because this is a romantic suspense, I can't get into a lot of details about the story because you have to experience it yourself. I can say that Matt and the Hudson Security team are badass as they protect their own from evil forces.
The delightful array of supporting characters add depth, complexity, and charm to the plot. Cade and Poppy are friends with the protagonists and are good role models for a loving relationship. My favorite character is the adorable and refreshing Daisy "Otter Pop" Miller who steals the show with her love of unicorns, freezer pops, and a big, gentle man named "Matty". Sigh!
Ms. Sol writes her stories with heart and soul, and I highly recommend this engaging novel filled with compelling characters, thrilling suspense, and an emotional HEA.
Thank you to Ms. Sol for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.
I never thought I could love an age gap romance as much as I loved this! This book and storyline was phenomenal and I'm not even kidding 😫 Christina you are a treasure! Thank you so much for the ARC, I'm going to binge all your books right away 😎😌
Scarlet (23) is the town's gorgoeus sunshine, single mom waitress who secretly likes the older, grumpy guy who barely says a word to her whenever he's at the restaurant 😂🤭 She's usually shy but Matt eventually brings out the feisty woman he knows she is 😈🔥 She's protective, brave, strong and lives upto the trope of a sunshine FMC. Her daughter is an absolute sweetheart, I adored her so much 😍
Matt (40) is an ex detective, is grumpy, tattoed, handsome as sin and who can barely form a word when Scarlet appears infront of him. Every single time 🤭 He's been in love with her since the second he saw her but doesn't say anything because of the age gap and thinks he doesn't deserve her 😫🔥 He's such a gentleman, caring, protective and loves her unconditionally. He was so sweet and patient with her, it made literally cry and I have no regrets. Raised my standards for sure 😌❤ (Thank you Christina) He lives upto the trope of "Sunshine only for her". He adores her daughter and it was so adorable to see him with her 😍❤
Their chemistry was off the charts from the start and I kept cheering them on, I couldn't help myself 😫🔥 The mouth on this man was sin, and I couldn't stop reading 😈 I can proudly say that Christina made me love the age gap romance and I'll be going back to read Matt and Scarlet over and over again 🔥😫
Christina you are a gem and I cannot say that enough ❤ I cannot wait to read the rest of the books you have in mind for us 😍
Some quotes for you that made me giggle and kick my feet 😫🔥:
"I’m yours, Scarlet. I’ve been yours for longer than you know. You’re mine, Scarlet. Mine." 🔥
"Mateo Alvarez, are you flirting with me?" "Maybe? Is it working?" "Maybe" ”In that case.......I think I like flirting with you" "Then you should probably do it more often" 😫😫🔥
Matt and Scarlet’s story is mesmerizing. Big, brawny and tough as nails Matt gets tongue-tied around the petite, cheerful and beautiful waitress at his favourite diner. Scarlet thinks he is a smoke show, but rather grumpy, terse and distant. Both have reason to avoid relationships and keep their hearts guarded, though both are fiercely attracted to the other and doing their best to keep it hidden. Yet, the moment he learns Scarlet and her young daughter, Daisy, are in danger Matt, a former cop now security expert with Hudson Security, swoops in and escorts them to his home to keep them safe. In his alpha protector mode, Matt is everything Scarlet could ask for…..growly and in charge, but also compassionate and caring, especially with young Daisy. I will admit that his tender and kind interactions with Daisy melt my heart, just as they do for Scarlet. Matt continues to show Scarlet and Daisy that there are indeed good guys in this world as he does his best to see to both their comfort and safety while working with his colleagues at Hudson Security to find and eliminate the threat to them.
I love the fierce chemistry between Matt and Scarlett and the steam they create together. The wonderful rapport between them and between Matt and Daisy makes this book very enjoyable. I have to say that little Daisy is an adorable character and I love the way she wraps Matt (and a few of his colleagues) around her tiny finger with a well placed pout, puppy dog eyes or tears. When Scarlet’s past comes back to haunt to her, Matt assures her that it doesn’t change how he feels about her. He is a rather swoon worthy book boyfriend, and stronger-than-thinks Scarlet is perfect for him.
I enjoyed the intrigue and supense in Mark and Scarlet’s story, as well as the growth in their relationship. The small town setting, the nosy and supportive citizens and friends make this book more entertaining and engrossing. I would highly recommend reading this book and the previous book in this series.
With Shattered Secrets we come to the end of this wonderful series and Christina ended with the couple I was most looking forward to.
Scarlet is a young single mom who's working at a diner trying to build a new life for her and her sweet 4 year old daughter Daisy. She's got a secret past that only a few people know of and even they don't know all the details. In the short time she's been living in the lovely town where everybody knows everybody, she's developed a crush on Matt.
Matt is a grumpy loner, he's just quit his job as an FBI agent and had a hard time getting back in the right place in his mind after being betrayed and shot. Luckily he's found great support with the Hudson Security team that he just joined. Slowly he's opening up a bit more, the only person who just gets him tongue tied though is Scarlet. He's super attracted to her but since she's much younger than him, he tries to avoid her.
When Scarlet gets targeted though all bets are off. Matt jumps up as her and Daisy's protector and does everything in his power to keep both safe. Being in close proximity makes for them to open up to each other and feelings are impossible to hold back anymore. With the help of the Hudson Security team and the mingling of the towns people, Matt and Scarlet finally get their happy ending.
This was a great story, I love how protective Matt was of Scarlet and Daisy, how he was super sweet to little Daisy. He went from keeping his distance to being there for them every minute. Scarlet was exactly the woman he needed. Even though the story was more concentrated on the romance, we get more than enough suspense to make this a great book.
I'm sad this series has come to an end but luckily Christina is already working on a spin-off series.
I’ve really enjoyed the Hudson Island series with a small town vibe, great characters, steamy romance and surprising suspense.
Matt/Mr. Matty/Mateo has been recuperating on Hudson Island for the last year after being shot. He’s been really emotionally from the end of his marriage and a double betrayal. He has been tongue-tied with his attraction to the young single mom, Scarlett, who is a waitress at the diner. He gets to know her as a friend of a friend, and while he is attracted to her he is freaked out by the 17 year age gap and thinks he’s too old for her.
Scarlett’s past is a closely guarded secret. She’s best friends with Poppy who is also her pseudo big sister. She’s doing the best she can to look out for her adorable daughter Daisy, and has quickly become beloved by the Hudson Island community in her time living in the island.
When Daisy gets hurt, Matt steps up to look out for Scarlett and her daughter. He steps in again when the mother and daughter are in danger. He quickly considers them his and Scarlett is captivated by his protective and sweet care of them.
They become very close and she opens up and shares her heartbreaking past. When additional danger comes seeking out Scarlett and Daisy, Matt and the Hudson Security team are ready to protect them.
Such an enjoyable storyline with enough romance, steam and suspense to keep my attention from beginning to end.
I received a free ARC from the author and Grey’s PR; and I am voluntarily leaving an unbiased review.
This is the 4th book in the series and honestly Christina Sol has moved everything up a notch. Shattered secrets is not so much steamy but smouldering, emotional and heart warming.
Matt is living in his brother's house on Hudson Island after being badly injuried and considering his future. Scarlet had moved onto the island, with her daughter, around 18 months ago and is working as a waitress in the local diner. Both have felt the attraction towards each other, but not acted on it with various excuses, age gap, their past, amoung them.
It's safe to say that the day comes when all that changes. Scarlet's 4 yr old daughter Daisy is a shining star and she just brings out the very best in Matt and essentially becomes the catalyst that ignites Matt and Scarlet to come together. That nickname he makes up for her, strapping up her toy's arm in a similair fashion to Daisy's broken arm - I defy anyone not to choke back the ahhhhhhs.
But it's not all plain sailing. Matt and Scarlet finally begin to explore their feelings for each other, its all very raw and emotional with both Matt and Scarlet dealing with respective pasts. Danger comes knocking on the door firstly when someone breaks into Scarlet's apartment and then when Scarlet's past comes back to haunt her.
My eyes did leak somewhat at various points and Shattered Secrets is definately one to curl up in the sofa or in bed with.
What can I say about this series? I devoured the first three books in two days and then had to wait two weeks for the last one. This series left me speechless and made me feel a ton of emotions. Each book is a beautiful story with equally amazing and different characters. Although I have a preference for Roxie and Joe, it was their story that made me feel the most emotions and that I loved the most. Maybe it's because I saw myself in Roxie's character—her passion for cooking and her sense of loneliness within her own family. In the last two books, she appears less, and I missed her.
I really enjoyed the secondary characters and can't wait to learn more about them. On one hand, I'd love to see Gavin with Tasha or Esme, even though there's a chance they might end up with an unknown character.
Xander, whom we met in the last two books, is also a character I like a lot. His relationship with Daisy, Scarlett's little girl, is just beautiful!
Scarlett and Matt, our two heroes of the last book, are just as incredible. Their story is lovely, despite the age difference.
Poppy and Cade also have a beautiful story, especially with Poppy's past and her twins. I love them a lot and hope to read more about them.
Finally, Alex and Quinn—my heart broke for Alex, but it was mended thanks to Quinn.
In conclusion, this series is just magnificent and incredible, and I highly recommend it.
Shattered Secrets is the 4th book of the Hudson Island series. I have loved this series since I started it and really want to go back and read the first two books. I loved Poppy and Cade's book and after meeting him in their book, I have been looking forward to Matt and Scarlet's story. Matt has been tongue tied around Scarlet since he first set eyes on her. I mean to the point that he can only get out one word answers. She was always disappointed when he didn't actually speak to her, but as they got to know each other, he told her why he wasn't able to talk to her. It was probably one of the cutest scenes in the book.
It is really hard to talk about this book without giving away spoilers. There is so much in Matt and Scarlet's background that things get dicey and have you on the edge of your seat wanting to know what happens next. The relationship that forms between Matt and Scarlet's daughter is adorable and it melts your heart. I love how the town and his group of friends gather to help when they are in trouble. I love how they continued to emphasize "they take care of their own", showing how big of a family they are. I highly recommend this book as well as this series. I cannot wait to see what is in store for us next!
Received ARC in exchange for voluntary honest review from Christina Sol and Grey's Promotions.
Dark past that you try to hide and put behind you but still carry the fear of being found. Scarlet did not have an easy life by any means starting at the young age of 14. But she has since tried everything in her power to be good person and be better then what her mother gave her. She is working hard and trying to provide for her daughter and be the best mother. After being shot and waking up to the worst truths someone could go through after tragedy, Matt has a rough year. He has to rehab from being shot but also heal his heart from the reality of how his marriage ended. He holes him self up in his brothers vacation home while rehabbing, but also is having a hard time facing life outside of that. But when he meets Miss Scarlet his is tongue tied for words and doesn't understand why since he lost faith in love when he woke from being shot to be told his wife was pregnant. But when he came to after the shooting and realized what she had said, he knew it wasn't his. And to be betrayed by someone he was supposed to trust with his life, his partner at the Seattle Police. New love and new faith. When the life of someone you care about but don't realize that you do, is in danger, faith and love is restored.
Scarlet Miller is a waitress, single mom to four-year-old Daisy. She moved to Hudson Island just a few years ago. And has been making a good life for her and her daughter. Working at the diner, she meets Matt, he is hot and sexy and built and a grump, barely speaks to her… But she doesn’t think that he sees her. Until her past comes knocking on her door and it seems that Matt will do everything, he can to keep her and her little girl safe.
Matt has been on the island, recovering from a work injury and the end of his marriage. Now it’s a year later and he quit his job as a detective and ends up working for his friend's security company. Meeting Scarlet seems to be one of the highlights of his stay, but he is too old for her. No matter what he feels it can never happen…Right…
I enjoyed this story. I loved Matt. Especially in the beginning when he couldn’t speak to Scarlet, it was so freaking adorable. Scarlet was an amazing mom, she was doing everything she could to give her daughter what she never had. The chemistry between her and Matt was hot and he was totally so cute with her daughter Daisy. Loved the whole single parent genre and the hint of suspense thrown in makes it a winner for me 😊
The 4th book in the series and it was a captivating one. Although it wasn't as steamy it still managed to get me hooked and enjoy it. Matt has moved to Hudson Island in the hope of rebuilding his life again. He was a grumpy moody and angry man. His butter divorce betrayal and life changing injury has made him jaded. Scarlet is a young single mum to an adorable 4 Yr old Daisy. Daisy really was the star of the book, I just loved her innocence and how she was the key to bringing the couple together. Scarlet was such a strong woman and determined to give her daughter a good life, despite what her past was like. She is always trying to be happy and kind towards others. Matt feels the attraction to Scarlet but she is 17 yrs younger and that's enough to keep him away. I loved how slowly they build their relationship and how delicate it was. Unfortunately Scarlet is harbouring a very big secret and that could destroy everything!! The suspense was brilliant as I was constantly trying to work out what she was hiding. Loved the friendship group and the whole small town feel. Loved seeing Poppy and Cade again. Very entertaining, lovable character, emotional, witty banter, drama, suspense and some spice.
I’ve been waiting for this one!! I quite literally binged all of Christina's books last month, and I was dying to know Matt’s story after seeing him around through the Hudson Island series and seeing him get injured in his brother’s book, and I loved every second of Matt and Scarlet!! The man went from being the most tongue tied that he couldn’t even mutter more than a grunt to being the most swoony, protective man. Matt is so down bad for this single mama and her adorable little girl. Scarlet is so determined to take care of herself and her daughter, to make it on their own, but Matt can’t help but step in. I melted into a puddle watching Matt with Daisy. The way she feels safe with him? His nickname for her? Oh I didn’t stand a chance. I fell for him right alongside Scarlet. I adore these two together and I loved watching Matt learn how to actually form sentences around her haha. Such a good small town romance with a swoony grump of a man and the determined single mom with the cutest daughter. I’m so sad to be done with the Hudson Island series, but I cannot wait to see what’s next from Christina!! I loved this one so much!!
This is the fourth installment of this series and these books just keep getting better and better. An age gap romantic suspense full of secrets from the past and starting over. Matt and Scarlet have sizzling chemistry and when things start happening to Scarlet, Matt steps out of the box to protect her and Otter Pop.
Matt has been on the island recovering from a work incident, the loss of his marriage and the emotional affects of learning trusted people were not to be trusted at all. He has friends on the island that have helped him along the way. The beauty with the wild colored hair and the sweetest little girl has caught his eye on many occasions but he is too old for her.
Scarlet's only focus has been making a home on the island and doing the best she can for her little girl. So thankful for the few friends she has found on the island who make that so much easier. But once you fall into looking over your shoulder, no matter how far you run that looking never stops. Good thing too because it is about to knock on her back door.

*4 stars* I'm really enjoying this series and this one had so much to offer. It had fun romantic moments but it also had some suspense to it. It was also a single parent story, that is one of my favorite genres so reading about the little girl was just heartwarming and had laugh out scenes. The suspenseful moments had me on the edge of my seat, trying to figure out the answers to all my questions and hoping for a happy ending. Can't wait to see what's next in store!
Matt has been through some hard times but finally made a decision of where his future lies and chooses to accept a new job. For some reason, whenever he sees Scarlett he gets tongue-tied and can't get a word out but when something happens, there seems to be a change between them. Scarlett has been making sure her little girl has everything she needs and grows up surrounded by love. When an event occurs, Matt offers to let them stay at his house; their relationship continues to grow and their bonds gets closer but as Scarlett still hides a secret from her past, a threat might loom closer than she realises. Will they come out of it unscathed? And will they be together in the end?...
Shattered Secrets is a deliciously sweet age gap romance that intermingles suspense with a deep and connected relationship and the building of a new family. Christina Sol’s writing is picturesque and charming, bringing to life the small island town and the characters who inhabit it. I was easily swept up into this romance and the protective and loving nature of the hero and the gentle and loving heroine. Watching this single mom who is wise beyond her years find a man who will treat her well and put her and her daughter first is endearing and beautiful!
I easily fell for both characters and the way they found clarity and hope with each other. Having the layer of single mom was so charming not only to watch the hero fall for this little girl as well as her mother, but the reader could clearly see and understand the steps these two take to protect and put her first. The suspense level of the novel ripples under the surface as the heroine’s past slowly comes to light but at each and every moment the hero is always understanding and on her side. Their chemistry sizzles off the page and this new family unity is forged in the deepest of love and care. As the suspense unfolds we see the true strength and poise of the heroine and the care and trust of the hero.
This is my first novel by Christina Sol and it is sure not going to be my last. I feel in love with these characters and their small town and I am looking forward to reading the prior novels in this and other series in order to see the HEAs of various supporting characters. Definitely pick up this novel if you are in the mood for a small town romance suspense!
Thank you so my to Grey Promotions for an eARC, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
4.5 stars! This was freaking adorable from start to finish!!
I loved Matt and Scarlet together. They were so easy with each other and even though it was instalove, it wasn’t cheesy or cringe. Matt’s tenderness for Scarlet was so freaking sweet and you could tell he really cared for her. The best bit was him and Daisy though. That sweet girl had him wrapped around her finger and it was the most precious thing ever. I loved the nicknames and how quickly they bonded.
There was subtle undercurrents of suspense mixed in throughout the book but Christina had me on the edge of my edge of my seat waiting for the shoe to drop. I was so proud of Scarlet when things came to a head!
Each book keeps getting better and better but overall this was probably my favourite out of the whole series. Matt, Scar and Daisy were just the absolute sweetest little family and I definitely could’ve kept on reading about them. I really can’t wait to see what comes next!
I have to say that four year old Daisy was the star of this book! I couldn’t get enough of her. It was crazy how big, bad Matt got so tongue tied around sweet Scarlet every time he saw her, especially at the diner where she worked. There was a big age gap between the two, but Matt’s friends told him it didn’t matter. Scarlet had a secret why she and her daughter Daisy were on the island. Matt lived in his identical twin’s house and was beginning to work for Hudson Security. One night Matt got a call from the Sheriff telling him that someone had broke into Scarlet’s apartment and she needed a friend. Matt had Scarlet and Daisy come stay at his big home until they could get the apartment back in shape. It was so sweet watching the two become friends and trust each other. I loved how Daisy had Matt twisted around her little finger. There were some suspenseful times that had me worried. I loved the book and strongly encourage you to read it.
I’ve read every book in this series, & I can honestly say that I love them all!!
I will say this one had me a bit concerned with the significant age gap at first, but as the book progressed I actually completely forgot about it. It was such a refreshing change to see the man being the one who gets all flustered around the woman he’s crushing over. I loved how much the other guys teased him & gave him a hard time about it.
Obviously Daisy completely stole the show in this one. I loved the “Otter Pop” nickname & her relationship with Matt was so sweet.
I felt like the suspense was much lighter in this one & it didn’t really kick in until much later, but I liked that it allowed for more time to develop Scarlett & Matt’s relationship as well as Matt joining his new team. The found family in this one was amazing & has me super excited for the next book!!
📚🌶🌶🌶 I think this was my favorite couple in the Hudson Island Series. This book is more of a slow burn, but still so good! Matt and Scarlett are a really great couple and they fit so well together!! Scarlett is super sweet and definitely "sunshine" vibes. Matt is tall, dark and "grumpy" vibes. The MCs chemistry on page is pretty amazing how it can be portrayed in a book. Matt definitely has some issues to get through from a very traumatic event. Scarlett also has gone through a lot in her past that she hasn't fully healed from. Scarletts little girl, Daisy or "Otter Pop", is the cutest kid ever. Definitley another must read from Christina Sol. This book ended in an HEA. I am very excited for the upcoming Hudson Security Series! Christina really lived up to the hype on this final book of this series.
This is the fourth book in this impressive series, and this is Matt and Scarlett’s story. Scarlett is a hardworking single mom to her little 4-year-old daughter, and she is hiding a dark past, while Matt is a divorced, bitter, and angry recluse, who is a jaded former detective, recovering from a career ending injury, and is now working for Hudson Security. This is a well written story which is an action packed, emotional roller coaster, with family, friendships, danger, suspense, intrigue, forced proximity, secrets, an age gap, undeniable chemistry, humor, witty banter, and love, which leads to an entertaining, tragic, haunting, and spicy small town romance. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.
Phenomenal Story! Single mom Scarlet is raising adorable Daisy on her own. Matt was shot as a member of the Seattle PD, but very early in the story resigns (not a spoiler). Each is going through a transition. Each is interested, but grumpy, recovering Matt decides at 40 he is too old for Scarlet.
When an event requires Scarlet to find temporary lodgings, Matt steps up. Oh my heart! He and Daisy are so cute together. We have otter pops, casts, playgrounds and popcorn with M&M’s. What’s not to love here. Thoroughly entertaining with the perfect blend of chosen family, intrigue and romance.
***** I am voluntarily leaving my honest review of this book *****
Matt finally gets his story told, and it was worth the wait! He is positively adorable as he trips over his words when he's around sweet single mom, Scarlet. But his protective instincts...and his voice, evidently, come out when she and her adorable daughter, Daisy, are in danger. Theirs is a slow burn, but it's so worth the wait! Daisy can charm the pants off anyone and her scenes with Matt are so stinking cute, it hurts. Scarlet may be young, but she's an old soul, because of what's happened to her in her short life. The age gap Matt obssesses over (he's 40) doesn't show at all because Scarlet is so wise. The twists and suspense need to be read in the pages of the book, not by me in a review. Just trust me, you'll love it!
This has been such a great series and I loved Matt and Scarlet's story. It was so endearing how he was so tongue-tied by his attraction to Scarlet that he couldn't string together a complete sentence. And then how special he treated her daughter Daisy, just priceless. I so love a growly, protective alpha male and Matt certainly fits the bill.
Normally I'm not that big of a fan of age gap romances. And even though Scarlet is relatively young, she is more mature due to her life experiences. She is a very strong and resilient woman who doesn't always give herself credit for what she has accomplished.
In addition to their romance, there is plenty of suspense, great friends/family, and humor sprinkled throughout. I'm looking forward to the next series.
This is such a brilliant read. Matt has been living on Hudson island since he got a career ending injury and went through a bad divorce. He has decided to work for Hudson Security so is staying on the island. Scarlett has run from her past and settled into life on Hudson Island with her 4 year old daughter Daisy. There is some hot chemistry between Matt and Scarlett but he's a lot older than her and with her past she doesn't think she deserves a good man like Matt. When Scarlett needs help Matt is the first there to help and soon they start to get close and Matt adores her little girl but when things turn really bad will he be able to keep them safe. A must read full of drama and suspense but also so much more. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
Oh wow! I really loved this story from start to finish. Small town, single mom, a protective man, an adorable little girl, throw in some secrets and a dash of suspense and I'm all in!! Scarlet is an amazing woman, with what she's been through, you can see that strength shine. Matt is great as well, he's someone you want around, and the connection, that pull that he has towards Scarlet really kept the pages turning. The building friendship between him and that little girl will melt any heart! This story gave me everything I wanted and more. I am hooked on this series, it's a must read!
I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
