Felix Eastwood is your average guy, except for the fact that he can see the spirits of the dead.
Lilith Lavelle is a fraudulent psychic, plying her trade on social media.
When Felix stumbles across an advertisement for Lilith Lavelle’s Psychic Cleansing Services, he hires her under the pretense that his family is being haunted, hoping to expose her as a scam artist. By trying to play the hero, Felix puts his family in grave danger. In the aftermath of Lilith’s visit, Felix finds himself haunted for real by something claiming to be his dead wife; something that is out for blood.
The problem is, Felix invited it in. And it doesn’t want to leave.

This follows Felix and his son Asher. Together with Felix's brother Eli and his dog Specs. For background, Felix's wife, Jenna, died in a car accident 11 years previously.
Felix has a gift; he can see spirits. So when his brother shows him an ad by a woman named Lilith Lavelle for 'psychic cleansing services', he immediately dismisses her as a charlatan. Determined to out her as a phoney, he contacts her via her website, asking for help with a fabricated tale about strange occurrences in his house.
So at first I just thought Felix was a busybody; I really did. He seemed to make Lilith a problem for no discernible reason other than he assumes she is a fake. I mean, why was this his business? It was so strange how he just started obsessing over her. This part of the plot I couldn't get behind. It could have been worked out a bit better. It just felt a bit too... contrived.
As the story progresses, however, he soon comes to regret sticking his nose into Lilith's business. It unleashes a chain of events nobody can stop.
Despite the dubious beginning of how he came to meet Lilith, this wasn't bad at all. The writing was ok; it was fast-paced and kept me reading. Was genuinely scary in places too. The book kept me engaged enough that I'm going to move on to the sequel and find out what happens next. :)
This was a pretty creepy, dark, and unsettling possession horror story. At first. I wasn't sure how I felt about it. The first 1/4 of the book was a little slow. However, things really started to pick up around the 48% mark. I wasn't prepared for how dark of a turn this story took.
First, let's start with the writing before we get into anything else. It was decently written. The imagery was unsettling, and I had no issues visualizing what was taking place in each scene. Secondly, the characters were well crafted. Felix was my least favorite. His character was quite silly at times, and his son had more common sense than he did(see highlighted notes). On the note of Asher(his son), his dialogue and mannerisms seemed a little immature to be a child of 12. Aside from that, I connected with the characters, and that's a huge deal for me in books.
The plot was pretty solid, though. The entity was dark, twisted, and depraved. I am genuinely creeped out as I type this review. Also, is this based on a real person? I'm not googling it now at this time of night. No, thank you. I want to sleep. I'll do it tomorrow. The ending was the perfect setup for a sequel. The bonus content really drew more light on things and cleared up some questions I had. Overall, it's a pretty decent read. Not without its flaws, but nothing is perfect in this life.
I've read both long and short fiction by Sarah, and the quality of her writing is top-notch. She consistently entertains and scares me, in equal measure, and YOU INVITED IT IN is no different!
Jules weaves a tight tapestry where family ties, dark secrets, and shocking imagery intermingle so seamlessly to create a story that has all the trappings of a cult classic in the making.
Get ready to feel ALL the emotions. Nothing will prepare you for that shocking ending!
If you love paranormal horror movies, this is for you. It's dark, addictive, twisty, features a dog (WHO DOESN'T DIE!) and if you read the bonus content too then that really rounds up the ending and answers some lingering questions...
This could have been so good, but Everytime the author wrote literally anything about Asher it ripped me right out of the story because he is TWELVE not SIX.
Sarah Jules weaved one heck of a story with imagery so creepy it will live rent free in my brain for quite a long time.
I devoured this book in two sittings (I had to cut the first one short because reading it at 3am while everyone was asleep and my house was pitch black was not one of my finer choices in life).
I look forward to reading more from this author and always keep in mind....
Felix has the ability to see dead people; so when he crosses paths with Lilith Lavelle, a fake psychic making her money scamming people, he hires her under false pretenses to expose her. But instead of proving her a fraud, he opens the door to a demon.
This one blends paranormal chills with something more grounded: grief, healing, and how far people will go to feel close to someone they’ve lost. The story has strong moments, and the characters were solid, and I enjoyed the way it weaves supernatural horror with the very real terror of mourning and not letting go.
The premise was great and it started off okay, but then it went off in a boring direction for me. The ending was awful and the writing was meh at best to be honest. I know a lot of people loved this one so don’t let my review dissuade you if you’re interested.
This book is about Felix, a widower and single father who inherited the ability to see ghosts from his mother. He sees an ad for a psychic offering cleansing services, and immediately deems her a fraud, so he hatches a plan to fake a haunting and expose her as a phony. Immediately after, some supernatural things start occuring in his home, and an entity claiming to be his dead wife starts haunting him and his son, Asher.
This book is literally the synopsis. Nothing more, nothing less. Don't expect any major twists or surprises. This book felt so flat for me that I felt I had no choice but to give it one star. It's the type of book that feels worse and worse the more you think about it after reading.
The setting is not important in this book and adds nothing. That's not a true complaint, just an observation.
The character are bleh. We have Felix, who is a single dad who can see ghosts. One might think that his ability to see ghosts may be a helpful tool during a haunting but it actually has zero impact on the story with the exception of making him skeptical of the psychic in the first place. Felix's son Asher is supposed to be 12 years old but speaks and acts more like an 8 year old - but also doesn't come off as frightened by the obvious haunting as a child or anyone who isn't a robot would be. Lilith is the psychic - it is revealed int he synopsis that she's a fraud but I think it would have actually made for a more compelling story if she wasn't a fraud, and Felix made an error of judgement (especially since he deemed her a fraud before even meeting her). Lilith is a very flat character who also doesn't behave like a real person. Eli is Felix's brother. He doesn't have a lot of purpose in the story other than owning a dog that growls at the entity. The last minor character is Felix's mom, who can see ghosts but overall isn't super helpful when it comes to solutions - she tells them how to defeat the demon, but it's a pretty lousy option. I thought all the exposition would come from her but it actually comes from The Entity.
After a bunch of horror movie tropes , the entity reveals its name, history, and intentions. Then we just watch things play out. It's pretty unfortunate because none of our characters get a chance to fight back, use their brains, or get the upper hand at any time. None of their strengths and weaknesses even matter because the entity is OP, follows pretty much no rules, and comes off as all-knowing an omnipresent - I normally enjoy an omnipresent entity, but not when we know everything about them and they're humanized to the point of not being spooky anymore, and instead just being disturbing.
Anyways, there were other happenings that I either didn't understand, or that were pretty solid plot holes. This is pretty much spoilers for the whole thing:
My other major piece of beef with this book is that it's called You Invited It In and that's a major theme throughout the book, however literally no one at any time did anything to invite the demons in. The demons all just let themselves in. The characters didn't do anything spiritually wrong or anything reckless at any point in the book. The book also blames Felix for these happenings because he wanted to sabotage Lilith's phony business when he should have minded his own business, however, it was actually pretty righteous of him to not want grieving people to be conned out of thousands of dollars. WHAT IS THE MORAL OF THE STORY? That no one is safe from the demons and they'll come for you no matter if you're a good or bad person? That you're totally powerless once you're haunted and that's that?
Okay, I'm done ranting. On the brightside, the dog doesn't get injured or killed.
Oh my. WHY IS NOBODY TALKING ABOUT THIS BOOK MORE?!
So I downloaded this on a whim after reading the same author for 3 books in a row. Still wanted spooky but just switch up the pace a lil and honestly didn’t have any opinion one way or another going into this one. I’d not heard of it, none of my horror groups are talking about it ( and if your in a horror reading Facebook group you know the same like 6 books get talked about non-stop ), and I had literally no idea what it was about apart from what the synopsis said.
Oh. My. Goodness.
I devoured this book! There wasn’t a single moment when I was bored or thinking “meh I’m not really feeling this.” No, I couldn’t get enough of it! I was at work ignoring my responsibilities determined to find out what Felix’s next move was.
There was some genuine spooky stuff inside these pages and just when you think “ok it’s not THAT bad for what’s going on” you get thrown this curve and something happens that you never thought was coming! It’s like the story started out as a family friendly paranormal thing then ended with a rated MA due to graphic natures and emotional damage! I cannot express how big my eyes got when I neared the end of this story and watched everything unfold the way it did ESPECIALLY when you see what’s about to happen and you want nothing more than to stop it. Like go inside a Time Machine and jump into the moment when the author is writing that exact part and tell her “DON’T YOU FUCKING DARE DO THIS!” But you can’t. And your left with this feeling of “WHAT?!”
If you’re glancing at this one, just read it. Don’t even bother wondering if you have the time because trust me you will make time. Don’t worry about not enjoying it because if you DNF this one there is no hope for you, Sorry. I am just blown away with how much I enjoyed this.. ok enjoyed is a lil far fetched considering how I feel after finishing it… but you get the point.
this review is dedicated to all the negative reviews that mentioned their complaints regarding the way asher was written to sound younger than his TWELVE YEARS OF AGE which hello is young as crap YOU BE IN THIS SITUATION AND ACT FULL GROWN AND MATURE THEN WE’LL TALK OK like come on this would be utterly terrifying and don’t forget he is british he didn’t sound younger, he didn’t sound like a tiny child he sounded like an age appropriate terrified 12 year old this really wasn’t bad at all, the visuals were easy to conjure and would be so scary for real i enjoyed this
Oh wow I wasn’t ready for this! This was so dark and genuinely scary (I’m not easily frightened!) that I know I’ll need a palate cleanser to read after this. I’ve never read a paranormal book like it and it left me wanting more. I can’t wait to see what Sarah Jules does next, this is her best story yet!
Great book! Sarah Jules knows how to tell a riveting horror story, creeping out her readers while making them beg for more! At least that's how it was with me. I started reading the book and ended up finishing it in one sitting. I just couldn't have enough of it. I really liked how a seemingly standard haunting suddenly transformed into a case of demonic possession after a whole series of demonic attacks. I appreciated the twists (and they are many!), I enjoyed the portrayal of all the chilling supernatural elements (and there's a lot of supernatural baggage in this story!), and I found the characters relatable and likeable. I even smiled with the title choices Jules made for a couple of chapters (wink wink!).
What I did not appreciate as much, however, was the ending. I'll avoid spoilers and say only that it shook me a bit and threw me out of the story. Thankfully, the bonus story put the ending into some perspective. Perhaps, though, that tale should have been part of the book and not just added to it as an afterthought?
As much as I would love to be a writer, I am a terrible reviewer, so here goes. This is the second book of Sarah's I have read. Don't Lie being the first(5* I loved it!) I was very excited to see what more was to come from her. You Invited It In was given as an ARC copy. I lobe going into books blindly so I will just give you the first 2 lines of the blurb; 'Felix Eastwood is your average guy, except for the factthat he can see the spirits of the dead. Lilith Lavelle is a fraudulant psychic, plying her trade on social media.' I did not want to put this book down, unfortunately my family did not share my sentiments! This book is a must for horror fans and as somwone who can watch pretty much anything, this creeped me out when reading it during the night. 5 stars, one of my favourite books of 2024.
Wow. The most addictive paranormal horror book I've ever read! And talk about freaky!
The pace of this is super fast, gripping and leaves you wanting more. I can't fault the writing. It drew me in from the start. I took a while to warm to the characters (apart from the dog, the dog was awesome!)
It's a short read but packed full of action and jaw dropping moments that made my skin crawl.
Highly recommended for horror lovers and readers of the paranormal.
Single dad Felix makes the terrible decision to invite a fake psychic to his home in order to prove she's lying. Unfortunately, by inviting Lilith into his house, he inadvertently invites something else too. Something evil. I was hooked from the start. I had absolutely no idea how this was going to end. Despite how short this story was, I was filled with a sense of dread the whole way through.
Moral of the story? Mind your own business and take care of your own. Maybe a bonus lesson is communication is key. I was very concerned for the dog during this entire story (he's safe).
In the last few years, one book and one movie have given me nightime heebie jeebies... Well, Sarah has made it three! This was genuinely spooky!!
Felix wants to expose Litith, a pyschic, who he firmly believes is a fraud, praying on the innocent and vulnerable. He invites her into the house to "out" her, but ends up inviting in a whole lot more. Felix, Eli (his brother), Asher (his son) and Specs (cool dog) are in for some drama.
For a novella, I really enjoyed the character development. I already felt like I knew the characters well and this made me sympathise with them a whole lot more. This book plays alot on grief horror and it was very clever, it also added alot of emotions within all the spooky stuff.
The nightime haunts and shadowy figures were terrifying! Literally! The whispers... stop it! The showdown towards the end... I couldn't take my eyes away. The fact Sarah had two chapters named after her other books... Let me fangirl hehe. The very, very ending... SARAH! Write more please! The extra bit at the end... That could have been a whole book! Sarah, bloody hell, come back!!! We need more!!
But saying that, it was truly fantastic as it was. I was in, I was out, I was spooked, I felt like I got a great story. What more can I really ask for?!
This one is for the horror lovers! I cannot recommend it enough.
Never try to be the hero, that's the moral of this fast paced and haunting story for me!
This is my second book from Sarah Jules and it didn't disappoint! Although this is a well explored trope, it felt fresh and new due to the characters dynamics and where it all started in the book.
I went from hating Felix to really caring for him, but I found all the characters real and loveable to be fair. And of course I adored Specs!
I enjoyed the gore and the creepy scenes that made me pause for a moment whilst checking out the room I was in. I was glued to the story and did not expect the direction it took! And I'm hoping for a sequel (fingers crossed).
If you also want to know why you should keep things as they are sometimes, then pick up this book!
Thanks to the author for a copy and this is my honest opinion.
This was such an incredible paranormal horror story, I couldn't put it down!
It's a fast-paced story about widower Felix who wants to prove that a local medium is a fraud. He hires her to do a spirit cleansing that his house doesn't really need. But after she leaves, weird things start to happen around the house, and the situation becomes increasingly dire.
The type of story that had me holding my breath and it didn't let up. After I was done reading, I really had to take a couple of minutes to collect myself because my heart was racing a thousand miles per hour. The writing and storytelling are top tier, and Sarah Jules has become an instant read author for me with this one!

I received an ARC from the author. My opinions are my own.
Holy crap this book was so good! It grips you from the beginning, and never let's go. If you are looking for a good creepy book, definitely pick this one up. You won't regret it.
Thank you, Sarah Jules, for letting me read this early 😀
You Invited It In by Sarah Jules releases on May 25th go and preorder it now.
Finished in 24 hrs. This book was so hard to put down. My first paranormal book and it won’t be my last. It’s a quick paced read with only 200 odd pages, but the story was so interesting! I loved that it was set in the UK, the witty banter was there and it had me feeling pretty creeped out! Definitely on the lighter side of horror but nonetheless still amazing. The moral of the story being: if you help people for the sake of saving others you might be in trouble lmao! It had a few twists and turns that I did not expect or see coming. If you’re looking to dip your toe into horror I suggest this book for sure! 4.5 ⭐️
‘Kitty,’ the word was slow, steady, the same cadence with which Jenna had spoken. ‘You invited it in,’ she said.

Wowie. A haunted house and possession in a single book?! Call that a winning combo!
Sarah Jules woke up craving violence and so she wrote this terrifying and also incredibly sad story. All this done to ruin my day specifically.
This is true horror in all senses, lack of a happy ending included (Why Sarah...) and in such few pages there were so many packed punches that I think I'll need a few days to recover.
This was an interesting haunted house/possession horror. I thought it was quite effective in places with some genuinely creepy moments, whereas other parts were a little cliche. It’s quite a short read at about 211 pages and I think it benefits from the shorter length, and the author does a good job at explaining enough that we’re satisfied and leaving enough mystery as well.
It definitely had a creepy vibe throughout, though I wouldn’t say the book approaches being actually scary. Overall, I enjoyed this book and would definitely read another book by this author. 4.25/5⭐️
