The elite police officers secretly launching Scotland's biggest ever offensive against organised crime had only one target. His name was Jamie Stevenson, but he was known as The Iceman, the biggest drugs trafficker the country has ever seen. Suspected of a string of murders - including the gangland assassination of his best friend - Stevenson's decade-long rise was built on ruthless ambition, strategic cunning and calculated, brutal violence. It left him at the head of one of Europe's biggest smuggling operations pouring tons of drugs and guns onto the streets of Scotland. "The Iceman" tells the astonishing story of Stevenson's rise and fall, offering a unique and explosive insight into Operation Folklore, the unprecedented four-year investigation that ended in his arrest. It lays bare the blood-soaked business of Scotland's most powerful crime lord and, for the first time, exposes how he made - and laundered - his dirty millions.
Jim Wilson could have simply dismissed himself as a competent piano tuner-technician, even an exceptional one. But he was and is so much more, and it took the sudden death of a dear friend and the encouragement of a legendary singer/songwriter to prove it to him.
From a broken home in Amarillo, Texas to a multi-award-winning recording artist, Jim Wilson’s journey is a captivating tale of showbiz glamour, personal tragedy, self-discovery, and dogged determination. And, as is typical of Jim Wilson, he’s turned out to be a pretty good wordsmith.
Tuned-In: Memoirs of a Piano Man is a page-turner and a life-changer. It’s a self-help book in the form of an autobiography. It is entertaining, revealing and full of lessons for musicians, fans, and all readers.
Jim Wilson’s life direction was set when he was given a guitar at age 7, then began composing songs at age 9. Soon after moving from West Texas to LA in his early 20’s, he gained a reputation as a respected piano technician, catering to the highest echelon of the music industry. Jim helped develop the first MIDI-adapter for acoustic piano in the 80’s, which became an instant hit with artists and studios around the world.
It was the shocking, untimely death of his closest friend that forced Jim to question the whole purpose of his life. With the love and support of his musical heroes – most significantly his friend and mentor, Dan Fogelberg -- Jim set out on a solo career, composing, recording and performing his signature style of piano-featured instrumentals.
Four of Jim’s ten recordings have hit the Billboard Top-20, he’s had two PBS specials, and his music has been streamed over 75 million times by fans around the globe. He was recently made a “Lifetime Member” of the Recording Academy. He enjoys scuba diving, skiing, pilot lessons, and mountain biking. Tuned In is Jim’s first book.
A typical brisk pace, reporting style of writing to those familiar with Findlay's other brilliant titles. Much like those other books, I scorched this pretty fast. The amazing, basically unreported story of a Glasgow gang land leader and his subsequent prosecution. Here we see much more perspective/interviews from the authorities which highlights their diligence and cunning despite being undermined by the naive Scottish legal system. The details on Stevenson and the timeline on his empire was as impressive as if the subject were a publicity seeking celebrity desperate to divulge. Anyone wanting a realistic view on organised crime in Scotland need go no further than Russell Findlay.

A really well written, fast paced book of the sort that is unput downable. The story of a Scottish Drugs smuggler extraordinaire and the bloody rise through the ranks, the betrayal that led to him to kill his one time best friend and the incredible sums of money he made and his worldwide network of contacts involved in his criminal endeavours. The story of how the laws were changed intending to hit criminals in the pocket by seizing proceeds of crime and how it seems to have failed to really live up to that. With relatively short sentences and the likelihood that upon leaving prison they will still have access to a nice nest egg. Really enjoyed reading this.
A true more gritty look into the dark Glasgow underworld we very rarely get to visit, I am currently reading this and the book gets better the more chapters you go through, what i do find interesting is his bitter feuds with the Mcgoverns and Birdman O'Hara, a violent and ruthless man, but can be a close loyal ally if you are to him.
