Welcome to Covington Cove Island… where timeless charm and secrets intertwine, and every wave whispers a tale of hidden hearts and summer dreams.

Marlowe Mitchell’s day is off to a rough start. Not only have all her friends and family forgotten her birthday, but Eleanor Covington, a sort of grandmotherly figure to Marlowe, passes away. Worst of all, she crashes her bike into the most popular guy on Covington Cove Island.

It seems her summer is destined to be terrible, until her ex-boyfriend’s parents ask her to house sit. Marlowe can’t turn down the money they’re offering, even if it means being in a house that holds such painful memories.

Things get worse when her ex-boyfriend, Reid, shows up unexpectedly a few days later, acting like he hadn’t shattered her heart the summer before.

While Marlowe is dealing with the emotions that come with living with the ex she’s still in love with, she gets a mysterious message from the late Eleanor. A clue, leading to a scavenger hunt that sends her all across the island.

Marlowe wants to protect her heart, but she’s forced to confront her unresolved feelings for Reid when he insists on helping her solve the clues.

Will Eleanor’s riddles lead Marlowe to a reward worth more than she ever imagined

And can Marlowe and Reid once again reclaim the love once held in their hearts?

I received this book as an ARC from the author. I have loved Danielle Keil's young adult novels and Reclaimed Hearts has quickly become my favorite. I absolutely loved this book!! Marlowe lives on a small island, Covington Cove and has lived her life believing she is unlovable. Her parents left her and her grandmother raised her, but Marlowe always felt people abandoned her from her parents, her best friend Grace, and her boyfriend Reid who broke up with her because he didn't live on the island full time. Marlowe was devastated when Elenor Covington passed away, Marlowe was very close to Eleanor. Eleanor's death triggers a scavenger hunt from Eleanor for Marlowe to find clues to get her prize. I related with Marlowe's charecter from her anxiety and panic and how she believes everyone abandons her. Can Marlowe and Reid find their way back to each other in this second chance YA romance? I highly recommend this book if you enjoy reading YA or want to start reading YA.

Summer vibes

The more I read of this book the more I wanted! Marlowe I feel for you so much! It’s clear Marlowe is use to heartbreak and losing people she loves. When she loses someone close to her she’s sent on a scavenger hunt for a mysterious “prize.”
Not only that her summer fling and one true love is back in town.

I absolutely love Reid, excuse me sir is there any love language you don’t show to Marlowe? Seriously he’s the most thoughtful, caring, and adorably sweet MMC.

This book had all the summer vibes, cute moments, and mystery to keep you wanting more. That ending tho?! I need more like now!

This was an easy read, but was it a forced proximity romance? Was it even a romance?

The main story revolves around a scavenger hunt set up by a recently deceased old lady who our fmc was apparently close to (this was unconvincing). She follows clues with the help of her ex boyfriend (who dumped her due to distance but apparently loved her so so much) and there were a few other friends helping but I couldn’t keep track of all the side characters.

The romance was extremely lacking but aside from that it was still enjoyable for a more general YA with summer vibes.

I received this book for free through Prime reading. It was a cute, quick read with summer/beach vibes. I was a bit annoyed with the grammatical/spelling errors in my Kindle version.

I got the opportunity to read this YA romance through BookSirens.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this honest review voluntarily.

Overall this was a sweet fluffy YA read. This is a “don’t judge a book by its cover” as I have to mention that the artwork for this novel does not shout “YA” at all. It’s actually one of my biggest complaints of the book as it gives a wrong impression.

Anyway, subtitle written as part of the good reads posting says it all- “a forced proximity second change romance”.
The one thing I appreciated about this young persons romance is that it was actually based on a healthy dynamic. She explains many reason why they like each other beyond the physical or some magical instant attraction that has no underlying basis.

I rarely round up when I’m rating books but I did so in this instance. I would put it at a 3.75 out of 5. The one thing that took away from me not giving it a 4 star is that there wasn’t too much that was exciting or galvanizing. Despite that I wanted to keep reading. The side plot was that she was going on a mini scavenger hunt which fell flat for me in the end.

To sum things up, it was cute and fluffy. A young beach read. Perfect for young teens!

My rating system since GoodReads doesn’t have partial stars and I rarely round up.
** I rounded up this time as a 3 didn’t do it justice. For what it is, I recommend it as it puts a smile on your face.
⭐️ Hated it
⭐️⭐️ Had a lot of trouble, prose issues, really not my cup of tea (potentially DNF’d or thought about it)
⭐️⭐️⭐️ Meh, it was an ok read but nothing special
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Really enjoyed it! Would recommend to others
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Outstanding! Will circle back and read again

A solidly middling read mainly driven by a shed load of angst. Not much to write home about, and probably not something I would actively recommend, although if it happens to fall in your hands and there is nothing else going, and you happen to be on a beach or somewhere else relaxing where you want to fill the time while you're getting something else then yeah maybe you could read this.

I think it all got old really quick primarily because this is a Young Adult read, and I wasn't really expecting a young adult read based on the cover or the fact that picked this up during Stuff Your Kindle day last year. It leans a lot on being a really emotional coming of age story where the heroine acknowledges that she's loved and whatnot. But there's so much crying, and self pity, self doubt, self flagellation even. Our heroine is perfectly unremarkable, just right for a nice little self insert.

My other issue is probably with the writing style, which somehow manages to make what's an average length book into a bit of a slog. It's descriptive in all the places where you don't particularly care -- cycling or driving from point A to point B, doing or not doing a hair care routine, how important the checklists are, being at work, having or not having coffee and the specific coffee brewing equipment. And yet it doesn't have many significant moments between Marlowe and Reid. The forced proximity isn't really forced, nor do they share longing glances, it's all a bit Deus ex Machina and I couldn't tell you what these people find appealing about each other.

Anyhow. Meh. Needs much better editing and probably a rewrite to bring out the details that matter.

I really enjoyed this book. It was charming and exciting. This book is a contemporary second-chance romance with a scavenger hunt mixed in. This is the first book I have read Danielle Keil, and I loved the world and characters she created for this book. The storyline was original and page-turning. The characters were complex and had a heartbreaking and heartwarming backstory. I loved the drama, mystery, and angst between the main characters.

Marlowe is trying to figure out her life. I love her loyalty to her friends, but feel bad for how she feels throughout this book. She feels left out and forgotten sometimes. Reid is a mystery to me. He is intense, broody, and protective of Marlowe. I love how he made her feel seen. Their chemistry is undeniable and a force to be reckoned with. Their angst and love was like a powder keg ready to explode. This was a fun read and loved the edge of my seat feeling while the scavenger hunt Marlowe was doing.

I was kindly provided with this book (censorship is BS and I hate it but here we are!)

4.5 stars. Second chance is growing on me, don’t tell anyone!

The plot - This is a YA, second chance romance with friends to lovers, forced proximity and a scavenger hunt! There is no smut, given that its YA but some steamy kisses involved. It’s a HEA with a VERY intriguing cliffhanger for a potential future book? Very interesting.
Honestly I debated DNF’ing this one around 25% because that first part? NOT A FUCKIN FAN. However after you get past that, and I realised that the FMC was a teenage girl so she was gonna make teenage girl mistakes, I was hooked!

The MC - Marlowe is our FMC, who had the CUTEST nicknames honestly. She was a lil naive but she’s 17, what are you expecting? I loved her in this book, she fit 100%.

The male counterpart - Reid is our elusive MMC who holds his cards to his chest but when he shows them? Magical. Actual butterflies.

Marlowe enjoyed her life on Covington Cove, although if she was totally honest with herself she felt alone. Everybody who was supposed to love her left her and never looked back, even Reid broke her heart and left her behind last year. Ok she had friends and her Grandmum had brought her up since her parents left her and never looked back. But the shock of finding out Eleanor Covington had died was a curve ball she'd always been there like another Grandma, she'd always treated Marlowe as if she belonged. This is a brilliant story that twists and turns making you so gripped you have to keep reading. The scavenger hunt Marlowe is sent on helps her see so much the she never realised until she saw things through different eyes. The story shows how island life can be difficult with the differences between the haves and have not culture. I loved the story and must say I'm really hoping there's a follow on story.

I loved this book! Reclaimed Hearts is a YA, second chance romance, and the perfect summer read. The characters were well-developed and relatable, the romance swoon-worthy, and the scavenger hunt unique.

I loved Marlowe; she was easily my favorite character. I really felt for her and the struggles and misconceptions she had. Her growth was amazing. And then, of course, there was Reid—ugh, I just loved him. I adored how much he cared for Marlowe and how he was always there for her. Marlowe and Reid’s relationship was perfect, and I rooted for them the whole time. Second chance romance is one of my favorite tropes, and Keil executed it flawlessly.

I loved the scavenger hunt and all the twists and turns that came with it. The scavenger hunt kept me guessing, and I couldn’t put the book down!

Also, as a fellow dog lover, I loved Noodle and Marshmallow! I wanted to give them all the pets.

The ending, though…when does the next book come out? Because I need it.

Welcome to Covington Cove Island… where timeless charm and secrets intertwine, and every wave whispers a tale of hidden hearts and summer dreams.

I was honored to be picked to be a part of the promo team for this book and I am so happy I was!!

This was such a perfect read to start the summer! My trip to the Cove was amazing yet way too short so I am excited to come back again soon!! (aka the other books in the series)

Reclaimed Hearts had a few different genres sprinkled in which I thought was so fun!! I loved trying to figure out the scavenger hunt along with Marlowe!

Also the twist at the end had me clicking my kindle for about a minute because I wanted there to be more to the story! I can not wait to read more of this series!!

I received this book as an ARC a couple weeks ago and just didn’t have time to sit and read it yet. I finally found time yesterday and am sorry to say I didn’t read it sooner. I was hooked from the very first chapter. The dynamic of this book is amazing. See a character like Marlowe that thinks she is so unlovable she believe anyone who ever tells her they love her is going to leave is heartbreaking. Marlowe has to learn to trust people when they say they are not going to leave her. In light of this someone she was very close to decided to send her on a scavenger hunt that could change everything. Will she be able to figure out the clues and solve the hunt? Can she learn to forgive the people that left her? Will she be able to trust love again?

First off, I am not really into YA novels but the romance and mystery of this book was *chefs kiss*. Danielle does a great job developing the characters and diving into the complexity of a girl just wanting to be accepted in her small town.

I cried at the end when the mystery was solved and Marlowe finally gets all she has ever wanted. The book did end on a major cliffhanger but honestly, I wanted more story anyway.

This book has a little something for everyone: second chance at love, small town romance, and mystery. I got a little bit of the OBX vibes from the novel and the play on townies vs visitors.

This should be a must for summer reads

This book gave me all the feels! I love the OBX and TSITP vibes from this book!

Reclaimed Hearts is a YA, second chance romance that is perfect for your next summer read! Danielle Keil takes a heartwarming romance and mixes it with an exciting scavenger hunt to make a fantastic read! Marlowe and Reid really captured the readers heart right from the start. This book felt so realistic and has so much to it. I love Marlowe and can empathize with her. Reid just blew my heart away. The way he cares is just so effortless and strong. I love this book so much! Definitely gonna be one I reread!

I definitely can’t wait for more of this series! I love all the little hints and twists. I definitely recommend this for all! Even if young adult isn’t your thing, it still could be a good read!

Ready for the scavenger hunt of the summer? Marlowe sure wasn't. Her summer started out with a crash and definitely didn't go as she had planned. She was still heartbroken after her breakup with Reid last summer, the last thing she wanted was to run into him. She's believed that she's not able to be loved, because everyone that loves her ends up leaving. But when unexpected events lead to her shacking up with her ex, well she's in for a whirlwind of a summer. And that cliffhanger at the end was just cruel 🤣 such a sweet YA romance that will hit you in the feels and make you believe in second chances and self discovery. If you love Sarah dessen books you will absolutely love the start of this new series!

Reclaimed Hearts has to be hands down my top favorite YA book I have read so far. I have read a few of Danielle’s works over the years and this has to be my favorite. She knocked it out of the park. Danielle created the perfect summer read. This book had me in a chokehold, up at all hours of the night reading, unable to put it down even when cooking meals (I might’ve burned myself a time or two). In all seriousness though, you are truly missing out on such a wonderful experience if you do not read this book. There is a scavenger hunt that is woven through a beautiful love story, but not the typical romantic love story, although that is there too. But a story that shows the many different types of love and the unsuspecting places love can come from. This book is truly a masterpiece.

Marlowe a local year-round resident of Covington Cove, she loves living on the Cove with her grandmum. Last summer she found love and heartbreak and now she just wanted to survive the summer, without running into her ex, well she ran into someone else who thankfully wasn't her ex, but one of the most popular guys on the Cove. Marlowe also got a message from one of Covington's original members after she pasted, so now she's got to figure out the clues while working her normal jobs, dealing with the boys in her life and their egos, housesitting for her ex's parents, on top of everything else. it's about to be a crazier summer then normal will Marlowe be able to survive or just break down with everything that's bound to happen to her.

Danielle Keil does a wonderful job of mixing romance with adventure in this book! I was given to privilege of reading this early and I fell so in love with our FMC, Marlowe Mitchell, and I was rooting for her the whole time! This book is the first in a series and I already cannot WAIT for more. I found myself drawing comparisons to Outer Banks throughout the entire book! It’s got a scavenger hunt but it also tells a wonderful story of a girl learning that she is capable of being loved. Wonderfully done!

This adorable beach read has my whole heart and I'm so excited for the rest of the series! It's a perfect beach read and the scavenger hunt / mystery vibes were immaculate! It honestly gave me the same good feelings as some of the mansion + puzzle solving video games I loved as a teen.

Marlowe is having a rough time of it, but I knew she would get some happiness in the end! Reid is the perfect book boyfriend and their second chance brewing up is so sweet and fun. The clues, and getting to spend time on this cute little island was just what I needed! 10/10, recommend this read!

Was lucky enough to get an ARC for this book and really enjoyed it!

It took me a minute to get into it because it's about high schoolers, not my typical read, but once I got into it, the story really grabbed me!

The secrets, the twists, the relational dynamic between all the people on the island - they really got to me!

Only reason it isn't a 5 star is because the ending felt kind of anti-climactic. They prize at the end wasn't what I was expecting / hoping for, but the writing was incredible.

I look forward to reading the rest of the Cove series!!

I first discovered Danielle Keil when I read her book “Trick Me Not”. I loved that book so I knew I’d love Reclaimed Hearts. And boy was I right.

Reclaimed Hearts is the perfect second chance summer read.
I am absolutely obsessed with Reid and how much he loves Marlowe. My new goal in life is to find a Reid. 😍

If you are looking to read something with:

✨no third act breakup
✨second chance
✨forced proximity
✨cinnamon roll hero
✨OBX/TSITP vibes

Then this book is for you. Even if you aren’t looking for those, you should still read it. 😉

3.25⭐️

I was loving it until maybe the three fourth point- and then it just wasn't as good. reid was pretty much perfect but he was asking 'are you okay' every two pages. the list on his phone was sadly never addressed, and the gabrielle bit bothered me until it was explained. and if everyone loved marlowe so much why didn't they remember her birthday? other than that, I loved the characters. emma was probably one of my favourites. I really liked the plot and the story. eleanor seemed like such a nice person, and the ending message was great.

This is a sweet, wholesome, young adult romance. With the addition of a mysterious scavenger hunt, that leads into the next book in the series. I was invested in Marlowe and Reid, if their second chance would work out for them. Loved the supportive, non-toxic friendship group as well. Lovely Summer, beach read.

A scavenger hunt from beyond the grave and a second chance at being loved

Marlowe and Reid engage in a scavenger hunt after one of her favorite senior citizens from the cove passes away. Ironically, Marlowe and Reid broke up months before, but the scavenger hunt brings them back together.

And the prize is heartwarming, but also underwhelming. Not a bad story, just drawn out by the scavenger hunt and the message relayed via the hun

This is book one in Danielle’s new series Hidden Hearts. Covington Cove is a small beach town that is always filled with adventure and at times a bit of mystery.

Marlowe has experienced her fair share of heartbreak and disappointment from those closest to her. Feeling like she is utterly alone, Marlowe is sent on a journey from someone she least expects to find exactly what she believes is missing. It’s a story filled with second chances and self discovery. You will get lost in the mystery while having your heart swoon over all the romance in between.

amazing book!

Wow, Reclaimed Hearts honestly blew me away. I thought I had the plot figured out early on, but it took such unexpected turns. I couldn’t put it down! I got completely pulled into the world, and that ending… I was not ready. Total cliffhanger and now I’m dying to know what happens next. Highly recommend if you love stories that keep you guessing and hit you in the feels.

I enjoyed this book, especially for a YA novel, but struggled to get engaged throughout the book up until the last 30%. It was a great small town, second chance romance with fun trope and banter. I would recommend this for an easy summer read or someone wanting to start reading more YA romances.

This was my first book by this author, but it won't be my last. I really enjoyed this story, and I'm looking forward to the second in the series.

Marlowe and Reid were great MCs, and while I do wish we'd gotten a dual POV so we'd know what was running through Reid's head (especially in certain situations), I loved their chemistry and scenes together.

And the scavenger hunt was fun.
