I'm truly pleased to have read this book.
The book is co-authored by Elmer Towns and David Earley. Earley comes across as a "no-nonsense" figure; Towns' writing carries a likable grand-fatherly tone. Indeed, he is the older of the two men (aged seventy-seven at the time the book was written).
Although I thought the book's overall writing style rather plain --like a pair of sensible shoes -- its content was illuminating.

In twelve chapters, these gentlemen tackle everything that pertains to job-related prayer. An instructional book brimming with Bible verses, it provides helpful examples of specific prayer: prayers for when you seek a job, prayers for when you think you might lose your job, prayers about becoming the right type of worker, prayers for your boss and co-workers, as well as prayers to help you plan for retirement.

Expectedly, the authors also share actual prayers from Scripture, including prayers by Nehemiah, Abraham's servant in Genesis 24, and, of course, from the Apostle Paul.

My prayers tend to be vague and cursory, lacking the specifics of intercession and the purposiveness of petition. So I found the prayer examples particularly helpful.

Here's one Towns provides about how to pray when you apply for a job:

Lord, lead me to talk to the right people about work opportunities.
When I fill out an application, help me say the right thing in the right way.
Help me understand the one(s) who will interview me,
Then help me wear the appropriate clothing, and say the correct thing to get the job.
Lord, work through the little things to help me get the job You want me to have.
Then after I've done the little things correctly, do a big thing for me: give me a job. Amen

Reading this book rekindled my love both for work and prayer. It is helping me to pray with more specificity and clarity for not only my job but about everything else. Spurred by the chapter on "Praying for Your Boss," I am challenged to intercede and pray more for others.

This book challenged my attitude to work and has led me to thoughtfully consider and articulate what kind of worker I am, and the kind of worker I ought to be. Ultimately, my real boss is Jesus Christ, and as the authors remind us throughout the book, "Whatever you do, do with all your heart...for you serve the Lord Christ" (Colossians 3: 23-24).

I am encouraged, by reading this book, to pursue a lifetime of purposeful work for God's glory.

Helpful Hints for a Happy Work Life

This is another great book in the "Praying For" series. Most of us must work for a living and being successful is all about the way you look at things. I look forward to reading more books in this series.

Couldn't get in to this book

If you have common sense, you don't need this book. I found it to be boring and there was little helpful information included.

Note from the book:
- 工作塑造個性,操練我的品格修為。
- 受傷的人往往也是傷害別人的人。
- 愛是命令,不是選項;是抉擇,不是感覺。

What I have learned: 教導我糾正錯誤、失敗和不正確的心態。不要向恐懼和憂慮屈服,接受上帝的旨意,給我力氣走出低潮。

Townes one of the founders of Liberty University, along with Falwell. Collection of essays on topics related to business. Main idea is that God wants success, but work and prayer are the way to achieve it. Chapter on retirement, bad boss, Jabez prayer.
