My mother sold me to the shifters, all in the name of peace.
For more than a century, the witches and shifters have been at war. So when my mother came home with the news that peace had been struck between us, I should’ve known better. Warning bells should have been ringing in my head, but they weren’t.
It wasn’t until the shifters came for me that I knew better.
Now, having been sent to live in the Shifter Kingdom with husbands who seem to hate me, I have no idea how I'll survive. All I do know is that I will. I’ve been through worse, and if anyone can turn my grumpy shifters into good husbands, it’s me.
If only I knew anything about men or love…
THEIR WITCH BRIDE is the first book in a steamy fantasy reverse harem romance with grumpy shifters, a sunshine, innocent witch, and a mystery they must work together to solve.

2.5/5 stars. I have mixed feelings about this book.
I really enjoyed the premise, and that's about all that I enjoyed. The book is about a witch who gets sold to the shifters for peace (one direction wattpad tease). I know it's such a silly plot, but it is a guilty pleasure of mine idk. So maybe I shouldn't of expected much with such a juvenile storyline, but I just felt really let down.
Let's start with the FMC. She is the daughter of the cruel witch queen and is an outcast in her coven. Everyone hates her or whatever and she is just so painstakingly dumb. She is supposed to be 20 years old, but the things she says just makes her sound adolescent. I think the author is leaning into an age play kink, especially with how the FMC is described by the MMCs. They describe her as "tiny and childlike". They reiterate many times just how tiny she is, but not only is she tiny, she has the biggest boobs and biggest butt. Oh and don't forget her 7 inch waist. Like girl WE GET IT. And the things she says, like no one on earth is that stupid. She is a virgin (of course) and the way the author made her speak about sex was just so childlike and naïve it made me uncomfortable.
Anyways, everyone in her life mistreats her and she loves them anyways. Her mother literally whips her and she is like "wow my mommy so strong I'm proud of her uwu" I just couldn't take it.
Basically the book is about a race war and I don't particularly fancy those sorts of books. Especially when RH authors write about them because it just become blind prejudice against each other without reasoning. Specifically there was one scene where the males made the FMC build her own tent. And when she tried to build it, they were like "Why isn't she throwing a tantrum or trying to kill us what is going on???". It was one of the most ridiculous scenes I've ever read. When the MMCs act that fucking stupid, how am I meant to take them seriously?
Anyways this story did have potential, but the author leaned way too much into the wattpadness of it all which made it unbearable for me. I did finish it though and unsurprisingly it wasn't the worst thing I've ever read LOL. I'm sure there are people who would enjoy it a lot more than I did.
Quite possibly the worst book of the year. I kept thinking something would change, but it never did. I will never understand the appeal of a bully romance.
1 star for the wattpad "my mom sold me to One Direction" vibe.
I hate to leave a review like this but this book just wasn't good. DNF'd at chapter 14. I reaaalllyyy tried to get into the story but the characters were just not well written. No depth and the MFC just went along with all of the abuse she was recieving without ever growing a back bone. I didn't like that she was made fun of/hated by almost EVERY other person and she just takes it. Never stands up for herself and that got really annoying. The whole thing seems like it was the first draft of a story written by a middle schooler. The magic system/dynamic between clans wasn't really explained well and got brushed over with no context.
I was frustrated that I couldn't see any other reviews of this book other than the 4-5 star ones (even though I tried to find some). If I did, I wouldn't have read past chapter 2.
This book hooked you from the beginning! Magic, Witches, shifters and Princess Tara's complicated relationship with herself and her powers. I really enjoyed the start of this new series and am looking forward to more.
Princess Tara grew up as a witch. Her mother-the most powerful witch so far had high hopes for Tara. Now, 20 years old, it is clear that Tara is not what the people expected. More so, their disappointment of her and her magic have amplified and she has been made a pariah among her people. Knowing little about the world and having to overcome nasty behavior on the daily, she is still hopeful for the future.
On the day of her job assignment, a big deal in the witches world, she finds out just how cruel her own mother is. She has been assigned as a "Peace Treaty Bride" to the wolf shifters.
Prince Arlys, Prince Rinan and Prince Drogo are anything but happy with their new duty. Taking a Witch for a bride is not what they wanted at all. She is nothing but an obligation. A cure to their people back home need. When that job is done, so is the marriage. However, they cant stop themselves from the lingering looks or the smell she gives off.
Can she be the savior they need? When the Witches sent her their in good faith for a treaty, but really knowing she cant complete the basic magic tasks, did they start a new war that Tara will find herself in the middle of?
I really enjoyed this one. I cant wait for book two. I felt like Tara was very immature with the witches and would have liked to see her more 20yr old self shine through. You can still be mature as well as naïve, I think. I wish she spoke up more with the shifters, but hopefully she will find more of her voice in book two.
*Overall 4/5 *Heat? 2/5 (Lots of tension) *Multiple first person POV *Slow Burn *Ends on cliffhanger
Well, that was way better than expected due to the bad ratings here. The story is pretty promising, and yeah, i agree; The bullying is annoying and tiring, but it gets better after a while! The chars & story are occupying my thoughts, that's what i like the most about books. There are some parts and tropes i am tired of when it comes to romantasy and smut, but seriously, it's nevertheless a nice book snack.
Solid 2.5/3. The main characters sheltered and naive behavior doesn't make a ton of sense and it's not my favorite trait. I also wish more happened in the book because since it's the travel book we get a lot of on the road stories but she doesn't really do much.
Main character guy wise, they all three suck. They don't really do anything redeemable for me the whole book. But let's see where it goes
It ended too quick me thinks. Rlly hate series r made when it rlly could have been told in one book or two. Get ur bag tho!!!!! ANYWAYS I LOVE TARA SO BAD. She's just so full of love and kindness and silly. Like even after everything that's been done to her she still sees the best in people and I think that's quite special <3.
What a fantastic start to what promises to be an exciting series!
This story is crammed full of awesome tropes like enemies to lovers, arranged marriage, why choose, royalty, shifters, witches, sword-wielding FMC, forced proximity, grumpy/sunshine, lots of tension, and so much more!
I really enjoyed Tara’s character, she was innocent in a lot of ways of the world, but she was still fierce and determined and I can’t wait for her to come into her own!
The princes on the other hand I can’t wait to learn more about. The glimpse there is enough to keep me wanting to learn more about them. Although, I’m not a huge fan of all of them… I’m reserving my judgement until I know more though lol
I went back and forth between 3 to 4 stars. I wish I could give 3 1/2 stars. The story is solid. And the writing is good. I think the next book will be a lot better. Right now it’s just kind of sad.
Tara, the FMC, is a witch who has been sold as a peace bride (without her consent or knowledge) to 3 prince alpha wolf shifters. She’s been shunned and beaten by her coven and mother her whole life, as a result she wears humor as armor and has questionable magic, except for metal magic, which is considered the most useless of all magic. She’s hopeful things will be better with these three shifters. Alas, her life is not sunshine and roses. They give her little attention and don’t treat her the way a wife should be treated. She soon discovers they only married her to cure their land from an Illness that’s killing off shifters. The Alpha King is dying and she must save him or else…
Hopefully things get happier for everyone in the next book!

Color me pleasantly surprised. This first book is really just a short introduction to the world and characters, but it was surprisingly good.
We have a world where shifters and witches have been at war for forever. Something happens (won't spoil) that brings the shifters to the negotiating table and the result is the witch princess, who has been reviled by her coven for not having "the right" magic, is given in marriage to three wolf princes. The evil witches are probably planning something nefarious, while the wolves are hoping this magic less witch can save their people.
This is probably the dumbest book I've ever read. And like an idiot I am, I kept reading because I was waiting for a twist that would explain why FMC is an imbecile. Maybe she's neurodivergent? Nope, she really is an imbecile. Or why does everyone hate her—maybe they're under a spell? Nope, everyone just hates her (no wonder, by the end, I hated her too).
Oh man, ok.... how do I do this without telling you too much. LCA is one of my favorite authors, and I absolutely love her books, this one is no different. The storyline will sucks you in so much. Tara just wants to please her mother the Queen, and make her proud. She wants to excel at magic so the coven will stop looking at her with pity. Can you guess what happens? Probably not.... it's hard not to fall in love with Tara. This story is just tugs at you and I can't wait for more. See what is really going on over there in the wolf territory
So bad that I couldn’t even finish chapter one. It’s obviously trying hard to be funny and it’s just not. Really heavy handed serving of the tropes (aw poor quirky loser princess) and her typical backstory to the point of cringe. No, thanks.
This was good. Like… extremely good. Painfully good. Nicely good. This literally became one of my favorite books and book series. It’s just… good. I can’t even put into words what I’m feeling right now after finishing it. It’s… way more than what I expected. I literally just started reading because I thought she would be treated like shit by all the people and feel alone as fuck. And then, I would deliberately be delighted by her suffering, as I enjoy to read people in shit situations. 🤷🏻♀️ Virgins are kinda scary sometimes, I know. Anyway! I did feel all of that, but… I also felt bad for her. Like really, I got so nervous and anxious every time shit happened to her but she couldn’t express it and just talked to herself… but at the same time, I was so amused and entertained that I couldn’t stop laughing and I… I thought I went finally insane lol. Like… pretty messed up. So that’s why I’m saying: this was the best fun I had in a long time. This. Was. GOOD. ✨Period✨. The sexual tension? I always preferred it over (penetrative) sex. And I still maintain this opinion. It was painfully GOOD. Sexy, engaging, and even funny lol. It was perfect. Totally on point. Felt like a good anime with good ecchi. What good times these were… huff… The protagonist personality is truly remarkable. She’s like an example for me. She’s so mentally strong and composed? Like, girl- 👀 I know it’s the result of abuse and shit, but she’s literally the princess I would want my younger self to want to be like. She’s truly beautiful. Also, her innocence and naivety convinced me enough. It didn’t sound forced or unnatural. It was pretty well balanced. And funny as fuck. I kinda cringed some times, NGL, but in the best way possible lol. Just to close this topic, I completely LOVE when authors of ‘RH/Why Choose?’ books write petite female protagonists. Since… hello? It gives us, petite women, some representation, since we still coexist with the tall ones. At least to myself, I could never identify myself with a tall, big breasted and strong female lead. I’m weak, small, and pretty awkward socially. It’s nice to see this type of women in books that I so much enjoy. Truly. I kinda of see T as a younger sis of mine. It’s nice. The drama, intrigue, tension, politics and shit? Pretty nice. I felt inserted inside the world. Kinda of. During some politics and territorial issues I got a little lost, but the Shifters and Witches lands are deeply well engraved in my head. The characters? The thing I liked most were the names for each one of them. It’s kinda of unique, different, exotic, and uncommon. It feels real. Unless Tara’s name. “Tara” is a really North American name, ew. But the rest? It was so nice reading characters that were given proper names, not like, a witch named Mary and a shifter named Trevor when they aren’t even in a contemporary context, y’know lololol. It’s so fucking funny when this happens, but it brakes so intensely the immersion of the reading… I’m really happy about this in the series. It felt refreshing, and cultural, and fantastical. The way it’s supposed to be. Anyway, just saying that I’m really looking forward for this series. It has BIG potencial and till now the author used it in the best way possible.
This book, really had the reader feel the emotions as we read each chapter. The fmc, she’s been physically and emotionally abused on top of being isolated from the rest of her coven based on the cruel words of her mom. The coven leader. Who also sells her to be a peace treaty, what isn’t explained until much later, that she’s expected to cure the Illness. She’s a metal witch, she doesn’t work well under pressure either. No one gives her a chance. It is heart breaking to read. She’s been gaslighted her entire life to expect to be treated like the dirt beneath everyone’s feet and to like it. She’s blessed to even be her mother’s daughter. Blah blah blah. She bought it and made it her mission to always smile, and to hide the pain. Whether it was physical abuse or verbal abuse. She has the scars to prove it, but she doesn’t let on how she grew up. What her capabilities are. The guys, they are the typical guys, hot and big all around. They are experienced and she is not and her naivety is making her comments double edged. She’s innocent enough not to realize how her words can be misconstrued. It makes me angry to read how Drogo treats her and makes everyone else treat her the same. Hes written stubborn, fierce, stupidly determined, and you just know that when he lets someone in, he’s loyal for life. Rinan, seemed to be the most open, saw past her “witch” title and loyal to his word even when he doesn’t agree now that he’s met her. Arlysl is written that he’s quiet, contemplative, thinks before he speaks and has more of an inner justice of what’s right and wrong. He agreed with their pact but he doesn’t agree with how Drogo treats her. He watches her and sees her more than the others I think. He observes before making any deductions. Drogo is the only one sticking his heels in the sand along with his head. I hope they see her scars, and realize that she’s been honest with them the entire time. I hope they realize how badly they treated her wasn’t any different than how she was treated back home. I hope I get to read their way to redemption. I’m almost certain though it will get worse before it gets better. I’m also certain that at some point, they will realize she’s their mate, their fated mate, and it will be to late to win her back, as she will be back with the witches. There’s gotta be a catalyst to this, and I can’t wait to read it!
I received this as an ARC and the first line immediately drew me in! "You, Tara, are like a dildo in the a$$ with no lube." I mean, if that isn't a heck of an opening line, what is? Tara really resonated with me. Between her insecurities and self-doubts in her abilities, her tumultuous relationship with her mother, and her unease at being thrown into a situation with the 3 shifter princes, I found myself really rooting for her. I love her innocence, quiet strength, humor and witty banter. She is trying to navigate through a difficult situation, especially with princes who distrust her and Prince Drogo is a bit of a bully. I am a fan of RH as well as enemies to lovers/bully and I look forward to seeing how the relationship between Tara and her 3 princes progress. There are so many tropes present including forced marriage and forced proximity, and the there is a lot of tension as well as a heavy expectation of Tara as the peace bride. I look forward to learning more about the shifter's and I feel that Tara's mother, the Witch Queen, who so willingly sold her daughter as a peace bride, will play a major role in the future, especially as she essentially set her up to fail. I feel that the Witch Queen has some nefarious plans for her own daughter and the shifters. Prince Arlys and Prince Rinan are growing on me, but Prince Drogo has some work to do. This was a shorter read, which I enjoyed, as I feel that fantasy romances don't need to go on and on. Once the Princes realize how horrible Tara's mother and her own people were to her, combined with their treatment of their new bride, there will indeed be some groveling! The book ended on a cliffhanger and I'm eagerly awaiting book 2. This was my first book by Lacey Carter Andersen and I plan to explore her backlist while waiting. This was a solid read for me, while not quite a 5 star (4.7), mainly because I would have liked to see some more world building of the shifter and witch world, and more insight into the history of their conflict, I have a feeling book 2 may provide more insight. If you have never read Lacey Carter Andersen, I encourage you to do so, as I am now a fan and will be adding her backlist to my TBR!
The best part of the enemies to Lovers trope, is the seductive dance around each other. The mutual attraction, despite external hinderances, the need to work out ones own feelings while keeping their integrity. And Their witch bride made a great attempt at its prefered trope.
Yes there might have been minor discrepancies mainly about insufficient background information, and mild questions of IQ of some characters. Questions on how basic human (or in this case) witch decency was absent from the whole population of the town except a single blacksmith. Yes, I realize people have herd mentality, but it is also true that when more people come together their interaction and personalities become more than one two dimensional as was depicted. And for all the hate that was poured out I expected more kindness from others.
But disregarding all these, this was an awesome story that I finished in one go and within a few hours. And any such novel is a good novel in my opinion.
Tara in this story is a princess. A princess who despite her social station was abused, excluded, and developed some serious inferiority complexes. I can understand her need for validation and blindness and love towards her mother, given her isolated upbringing. My only doubt is her station as a princess, which to be honest does not mesh well with her backstory and was probably used as a trope by the author for the only reason of her political marriage.
In the first novel of the series she is sold off to three shifter princes as a bargaining chip for peace and her magic. I love the slow burn tangling of the prices as they battle between their preconceptions and feelings, about their prior dislike and hurt vs their attraction. But again there are minor things that bother me like Tara's description of the differences of witch society in relation to shifter society, or even the set up of shifter society where heirs seem to be shipped off to neighbouring packs without any regard for safety or responsibility.
In short, if you want to read something spicy and rather slow-burn interaction between the main characters, then you are at the right place. I would not read this story for the plot.
This is the first book i have read from this author and I will be looking into more books by her. This world building was good. I liked how i could clearly see this world and how the characters lived. The imagination and creativity were good. I usually will not take the time to read a book about a naive, ignorant protagonist who allows people to walk all over her. But Tara is different. Tara is not weak. She just hasn't known anything different her whole life. She just doesn't know any better. So, she chooses to be a happy person. I can respect that. I can respect someone actively choosing to be positive over negative. That in itself shows strength. The romance is where this book starts to fall short for me. Her men each have their own personalities. That's a plus. Although there are different POVs, you can easily tell who each man is. Around the middle of book two their behavior just becomes aggravating. I lose all respect for them. I get the "bro code". Having lived and worked around mostly men my whole life I seriously GET the "bro code" I don't respect ANY person who doesn't stand up for what they believe is right or wrong. Especially "strong" men who actively participate in treating someone, weaker than them, wrong when they believe it's wrong. If you don't stand for something, you will fall for anything. Furthermore, around the middle of book two is when you start to see some stupidity. The answers are right in front of their faces and the author extends it out to create angst. Angst can be created without making the characters stupid. Book three starts to feel rushed. This could have easily been a nice 4-5 book series that would have kept readers interested. The author has that much talent. All in all, I would say that this series is worth reading. I enjoyed it and couldn't wait to jump from book one to book two. It's not a series that would go into my reread pile, but I still enjoyed it.
Tara is a witch, but not a very good one. She can’t get her magic to listen to her and it’s spotty at best. None of the other witches like her and they are unkind to her, especially her own mother, the queen. It comes time for the sorting day, where each witch of age gets their assignment and Tara is nervous. However, when it’s time for her to be given her assignment her mother announces that it’s actually her wedding day and that she’ll be wed to three shifters as a peace bride to end the war. She is then married to princes Rinan, Arlys, and Drogo. All three men have ulterior motives and don’t wish to be married to her either, but agree to go along with the marriage for now. They make a pact that none of them will consummate their marriage so that once she’s served her purpose their marriage can be annulled. When she arrives at the shifters land she’s told there is an illness that the elderly shifters are dying from and that the whole reason for the marriage was so she could safe them. It’s clear that her mother set her up for failure as she said Tara was the strongest of them all. While in her room with prince rinan a bear shifter climbs in the room and starts to attack her. It quickly turn its attention to Rinan and it seems to be winning. She grabs her weapons as she trusts them more than her magic and stabs the bear through the heart and kills it. With Rinan at her feet dying she miraculously is able to heal him as drogo and arlys watch on. She’s not able to heal herself so she has to live with the scratches where Rinan is fully healed. While on a run the three princes see a young man dying from the illness as he warns them that it is spreading and not just to the elderly. The princes swear again to only use her for the cure and then they’ll annul the marriage so they can find their true mate.
Their Witch Bride is the first book in Lacey Carter Anderson's new fantasy rh. The story surprised me with its humor while also keeping me wondering what was gonna happen to the little witch.
Tara had to grow on me. She annoyed me at first because there is turn the other cheek and then there's being a doormat. I understand that she was desperate for companionship but it felt a little too much at times. Tara's awkwardness made for some cringe-worthy moments but it was the unrealized sexual innuendos that really took the cake. It was hilarious and endured me to her. Plus she's an amazing weapons master which helped me like her even more.
The three big bad shifter princes don't know how to take Tara or know what to do with her for that matter. It was freaking hilarious. My favorite moments are when Drogo is trying to start a fight with her and Tara just lets the wind out of his sails. She's gotten a little bit of sass now that she's with the shifters and I like it.
I wasn't expecting this plot but I really enjoyed it. Lacey did a great job going into detail about both the Wolf and Witch Kingdoms while also showing the animosity between both people. There is a history there I would love to know about. There were a few revelations but it was the plot twist and its ramifications that took the plot in a totally different direction than what I was thinking.
This book had some pretty good troupes, Grumpy/Sunshine, Chosen One, and Arranged Marriage to name a few. Things were fairly dramatic for most of the book, so of course, it would end on a dramatic cliffhanger. I'm just wondering how what happened is going to affect the next book.
There is so much promise and variety that this book is capable of. And as per usual with this author, it’s hard to go into detail about my favorite parts without giving away too much in terms of spoilers. But the main character seems to have a “if you can’t beat em, join em” mindset, as far as how people treat her. She’s so accustomed to being treated poorly, she just rolls with it, and laughs with them. Which hurt my heart, but I guess also serves its purpose, as proved numerous times in the book. I always love the stories where the princess is down to earth and not spoiled and entitled, but this princess gets the furthest from the royal treatment that I’ve seen, without some horrible step-mother involved. I wish I could say she wasn’t relatable, but she is. To me at least. The one thing that makes my heart ache for her, but isn’t personally relatable is her naivety, which is extreme to the point of being shocked at discovering her actual age compared to the knowledge she’s been given as far as life in general goes. Her mother very much has a “for the greater good” mindset, yet, it seems to conveniently never come at great cost to herself. I genuinely detested her mother by 1/4 of the way into the book, and it only got worse as I went. I can only hope what her mother has decided for her, will be the best thing that’s happened to her in the end. With my high hopes, and experience with the author, I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book.
Wow, what a first start to this series. I think this is the first book I cried at the beginning of the book. Lacey does an awesome job of really bringing you into the emotions of her characters, especially Tara. One minute I am crying, then laughing, growling, wanted to reach through the book and smack the character myself. I couldn’t put it down, I read this book in one day.
Our dear innocent Tara, amazingly resilient no matter what life throws at her and for the most part she really can’t catch a break. Her mother certainly will not win any awards for being mother of the year. After learning and hearing how she treats her daughter, I wanted to jump through the book and give her and the other witches a piece of my mind. No mother, no person should treat anyone the way she treats her daughter.
Don’t get me start on her 3 wolf shifter husbands. Now, I will say Tara’s innocence and knowledge about things of a sexual nature had me laughing out loud. The things she says and doesn’t understand the meaning or the reason they react the way they do will have you rolling on the floor laughing. However, those 3 alphas had me wanting to reach through the pages and slapping some sense into those idiots. I know she was their enemy but no matter what she does they can’t seem to accept what a treasure they have. Can’t wait for book 2 to see if her husbands can overcome their stubborn stupidity.
If only I knew anything about men or love… THEIR WITCH BRIDE is the first book in a steamy fantasy reverse harem romance with grumpy shifters, a sunshine, innocent witch, and a mystery they must work together to solve.
Heather's Notes So this book is mostly a setup book. Tara was sometimes unbelievable with some of dialogue. I mean the whole scene with the tent was cringe worthy. Not what she did (I actually liked that) but the whole "talking" to the tent (actually I probably could have accepted that if she hadn't keep calling "tent"). Also there had better be a major grovel scene in one of the next two books. Especially, with Dracco. There is never an accuse for the way they treated her. That being said I am interested enough to want to read the next book. I want to see the mother get hers (love is not earned - but respect is). She doesn't deserve either.

I voluntarily reviewed "THEIR WITCH BRIDE" I was hooked on this story from the start it was an enjoyable read full of mystery, intrigue, humor, tension, steam, magic, shifters, witches, twists that keeps you turning the look pages to this delightful reverse harem romance. Tara had an awful relationship with her mother she told her that love had to be earned what a thing to say to your child all because Tara has problems with her magic, but does awesome with metal work which is looked down at within the Coven because Witches don't need weapons. Tara's mom gave her away to three Prince Shifters she's been told nothing but bad things about Shifters they seriously don't even like Witches as they've killed many of their people with magic, which the shifters find cowardly. Tara's mom is a piece of work did she set her up to fail & start wars again, can Drogo, Arlys & Rinan the three Prince Wolf Shifters bring out Tara's magic to help the King. I definitely recommend to get this very interesting reverse harem romance will they get their HEA, or still see each other as enemies, they really don't know what to do with Tara humorous at times, she stands up to them, which is comical at times she's grown alot I loved it. I'm so looking forward to the next book in this well written new series can't come soon enough. AWESOME START TO NEW PARANORMAL SERIES I LOVED IT 🖤 🖤 🖤 🖤 🖤
Well... This is one of those times where I feel like I have a lot to say, but I don't know how to say it in a way I don't give away any spoilers and don't get flagged for the use of certain words...
This book took my by the throat. If you ever want to see what happens to a person who's being raised by a narcissist who loves to isolate her daughter and where gas lighting is a daily occurance; this is the book. Some reviews say our young witch is a bit young and naive, but to me that's a natural consequence of how she was raised. And it really hurt to watch it all happening, and how it took root in her brain and her heart. Even though there's a touch of lightness in this story, it constantly felt bittersweet to me and I even occasionally felt the tears well in my eyes. The fact that Tara feels more cared for in a hostile environment than the one she was raised in, says it all.
So yeah, I love Tara. she's a beautiful soul, and she reminds me of a flower that refuses to be destroyed even when people constantly keep stomping it down. It's a bit soon to say much about the men, but I can already imagine how they will match with our beautiful witch in a way they never saw coming. I was dreading the moment the end of this first book came near, and now I can't wait to find out what will happen next!
This is an RH enemies to lovers (probably) story, the FMC Tara is a Princess only child of the Witch Queen. As far as magic goes she’s inept at everything except metal magic. When Tara is near metal it speaks to her begging to be changed to what it wants to become. Although that is the lowest of the low amongst witchcraft, they have little to no use for weapons. Her entire life she’s been ridiculed and treated as lesser. Her mother is a cold cruel woman and feels nothing for Tara. Definitely nothing maternal or positive for that matter.
The witches have been at war for a century against the Shifter Kingdoms. A peace treaty is being brokered, unfortunately for Tara, her mother has decided that she is going to be offered up as a Peace Bride. Her soon to be husband’s aren’t thrilled by the idea either, they’ve been pushed into this just as much as Tara has. If only that was the worst case scenario, it doesn’t take long for Tara to discover she’s walking into a nightmare. One that she might not survive.
The plot is a little heavy handed and it’s easy enough to see how things are likely to unfold but that aspect aside Tara’s character is really lovely, painfully naïve at times, but very likeable. Her mother comes across as a sociopath or worse. Overall it’s shaping up to be good easy reading, a little angst with plenty of humour.
Their Witch Bride is a paranormal RH with shifters and witches in it. This story is told from a multi POV and is an interesting enemy-to-spouses bargain.
My favorite part of this story is Tara. She takes the blows of life and somehow keeps a smile and doesn't let knock her down. But this doesn't mean those actions and words don't hit hard, making your heart go out to her.
The book starts off where she has been mistreated by her mother and the other witches because her magic is strong in metal magic. A gift they deem useless. So her cruel mother happily gives her to the wolf shifters as a peace bride.
And her new husband don't make things easier. They see her as the enemy and have a plan to get out of their marriage as soon as they can. They just want her to use her magic to help them. One problem she doesn't know how and she knows her mother set her up to fail...along with the peace treaty.
Things in the shifter community just get so much worse at the end of book one. She's attacked and the illness plaguing the wolves is spreading and getting worse.
I can't wait to see what she's going to do in the next book. And her new husbands might need to get their apologies ready when they realize what she's been through.
I am writing this review for the series as a whole.
TLDR; I was waiting for it to get better, and it just doesn't. Still giving it two stars because I did finish the series...
There is bullying until 60% into the THIRD book... And there is NO grovel. None. They apologize and she instantly forgives (I mean literally.) them and they have s3x and everything is fine.
Spoilers!
"'And what if I refuse?' I ask, my hands curling into fists. Prince Aryls answers, his expression far away. 'As our wife, we make these kinds of decisions. You know that.'" -this is from the second book. Like what? So they just choose who she has to marry and have s3x with? and then when she is expected to consummate her new marriage? They all fight over who gets her virginity and what order, as if she has no say in even that after they haven't wanted anything to do with her? This was probably the worst part.
Also there is "who did this" but they literally don't see it until almost the end and it's literally just kind of brushed under the rug.
It's unfortunate because I REALLY liked the authors writing style. And I really liked what the story could have been... if the mmcs weren't so awful for so long. I genuinely just feel bad for the fmc.
