Dnf at 45%

I don't think I'll read another JD book. I've tried to in the past, and for some reason, they have tons of ow/om drama or sex with other ppls. That's the sole reason why I DNF this book.

Barret, our rich guy, wants to buy the dnf bookstore and falls somewhat for Gertrude, a Wednesday lookalike who's all dark and not like other women. Yeah. She turns him down. And his kinks helping poor woman. Or whatever. He gets off on money play.

I could've read the rest, but he has sex with his gf or whatever she is. And then I skimmed and found out THEY DONT EVEN END UP AS A COUPLE!!

Yeah I'm out.

What in the world even is this book?!?!?
Let me state the things I hated about this book.

1. Third-person POV. It was simply atrocious.

2. It's not even a part of the DNF world that's already been created by all the other authors. The bookstore isn't the same, and neither is the boss or the employees.

3. Chapter 4. What even was the purpose of it?

4. The MCs don't even end up together...

Yep, you heard that right. They don't end up together. The FMC decides she's in love with her female boss while having sex with the MMC. That's fine except, there's was no inclination that she had a thing for her boss except mutual respect and thinking of her boss in a maternal manner. In fact, we never even see the two start a relationship before the book ends.

I feel like the author tried to be cringey, but everything about this book was far from the other books in the series. There was no laughing or cringe moments. It wasn't worth my time, and I should have DNFed it.

Thank you to the author for an ARC.

I love Midnight’s writing. It’s beautiful and laugh out loud funny, but also… so fucking relatable. This book is part of a series of cringy books called the DNF series, and I loved it. I will 100% be carrying on with the series. Cringing, laughing, dying of second hand embarrassment. I cannot wait.

Love the comparison right in the beginning of Ariana & Gertrude, + “Ariana found Gertrude and simply decided that they were friends. Gertrude had little choice in the matter.” 😂😂Awesome!!

This is how I feel about Malls “She was in the enemy camp. The land of extroverts.”😳😆 Someone understands!!!…lol
🤯💥OMG…What Leggings would “cost four, maybe five grand” …like, really??!!? and what moron would actually pay that🫤💸💸💸💸
😦well, that’s my first angry, hate, degradation, violent classism-money play sex… kinda surprised there was no blood shed!!!

💚Nice touch with text date for her & the epilogue for him

I went into this book knowing it would be cringey and weird. And I got what i was promised.

This was such an unserious read, from the plot, to the characters, to the descriptions, to the interactions. Stereotypes and weird kinks galore.

Read this book if you want to catch up on your reading goal and aren’t cringed out easily.

I went into this book not knowing much but that this book is intended for you to DNF. Along with the rest of the books in this series by various authors. Surprisingly I managed to get through it and for that I am proud but I am questioning everything I have read.

It is literally a cringefest. Literally the worst book I have ever read but that was the intention right? Worst meaning ew. He was weird and his ‘fetish’ was creepy. She was just questionable tbh. This was such an unserious read which was really well executed throughout. I love J.D. Midnight and I really can’t wait to read more from them.

*This book was a dual third person POV and stood at only 88 pages in eBook format. Please check any triggers before reading*

This book is supposed to be cringy, and it hit the nail on the head. This book is not a rom com, and yet I have never laughed harder at a book that I don't think is necessarily meant to be funny. The fmc, Gertrude, is a woman after my own heart. 100% of the black cat is surrounded by color and excitement, and everyone just loves her for it. Her best friend gets her a job at DNF bookstore, and that's where the story really begins. We meet the mmc, Woodrow Barrett, and of course our girl is not interested.
*cue the Debbie Ryan meme*
She's not like other girls. She doesn't care that he's a billionaire. He's trying to buy the bookstore she works at!

This story was hilarious. I'm talking laugh out loud, funny. Send your best friends snaps of you attempting to get through a quote for them, funny. The number of highlights I have from this 86-page book should be illegal. I think my favorite part has to be when the mmc tells his gf, not the fmc, that they're going to fuck like poor people. The whole scene afterward is pure comedy. Like the words that come out of this man's mouth deserve to be written somewhere for all to see and judge because he's saying some of the most out of pocket things and 100% getting off to them. I would quote them now, but with the book not being out yet, I'm not sure if I can, but trust and believe it is worse than anything you can think of. For such a short book, I had to stop reading 3 times. Once, I messaged my friends about the ridiculousness I had just read, once to scream, and then once because I couldn't see through my tears. I loved every second of it.
In such a short amount of time, JD Midnight has become an autoread author for me. The books are always good, typically thought-provoking (this one was too, but more of how mean would I be in this situation) and over all a good time. I can't wait to see what they have coming out next, but it truly doesn't even matter because I'm immediately going to read it.
This review is my own, but the book was gifted to me to ARC read by the author ❤️

This book is told in 3rd person POV and I almost DNF’d it from the start. I decided to push through and see if the storyline held my attention. I’m happy to report that it did. Unfortunately, it wasn’t cringey at all. I expected it to be like the others I’ve read in the ‘DNF series’ but it was not. I liked Gertrude a lot but Barrett was annoying. He had a very interesting kink though which made the book more fun. I did like how the story took a turn at the end. I wasn’t expecting it at all. It felt entirely too long even though it was only 88 pages and I think that had to do with the 3rd person POV. I would have enjoyed it way more if it were told in the FMC’s POV.

Husbands review:

4⭐️ I really enjoyed this one. Yes, it’s cringy but it’s a fun cringy. It also took a fun turn that I wasn’t expecting.

Nectar by JD Midnight
Nectar offers a quirky twist in the DNF series, featuring Gertrude Bliss, a bookstore worker just scraping by, and Woodrow Barrett, a corporate titan with plans to take over her bookstore’s block.

Woodrow’s company, which seemingly owns everything including “the color blue,” aims to expand, but his plans might be thrown off course when he meets Gertrude.

The book is a fun mix of humor and oddball romance, with a satirical take on capitalism and presenting a fast-paced, offbeat narrative.

It’s a brief but entertaining read that packs a lot of character and wit into its short length.
A funny addition to the series with a dash of the unusual. Perfect if you’re into a quick, entertaining read with a dash of ick.

This was so weird I loved it 😂😂

Totally chaotic, very relatable in ways that look concerning but are actually totally cliche, and with a sweet ending I only vaguely expected.

And J.D. Midnights writing is once again amazing, I love the jokes and their levels, the unhinged with the straightforward. 🖤

Gimme more 😂

I was so bored. Truly awful. Nothing like any of the others in the series. No funny cringe smut. No funny side characters. No, I'm adding that word to my vocabulary. Just. Wow. The only funny moment was the "cha-ching" and that's saying something.

Here is my honest review: I LOVE ANYTHING JD MIDNIGHT WRITES

On a second note this is supposed to be cringe but maybe I’m just weird and don’t get cringe vibes? I actually really really enjoyed this. It’s a quick fast passed funny read with good s*x. 100/10 recommend :)

*I did not read these series in order. I read them as the arcs came in.

I love Gertrude's character so much. She gives me Wednesday addams vibes 100%. I literally laughed at everything Barret says or thinks is just hilarious. The ending surprised me and I loved it! Not the cringest in my opinion.
