Life is hard, and sometimes life just sucks. 27-year-old Elise is no stranger to this, having experienced a lifetime of suckiness. In fact, Elise has openly accepted that everything sucks and always will; that is until a brush with death gives her the opportunity to either change or die.
Through mental battles with her inner demons and self-conscience, Elise reflects on her past by highlighting core memories that have both molded and broken her. Ultimately, our protagonist must decide on her own if she will take this second-chance at life by changing her negative ways, or refuse it.
The content in this novel includes graphic descriptions of drug abuse, self-harm, and speaks heavily on the topic of suicidal thoughts and actions. If you are experiencing suicidal thoughts or are considering harming yourself, call 988 to be directed to the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.
Everything Does Not Suck by Casey Deann will take you on an emotional journey as you follow Elise, a deeply flawed, but beautiful human working through deep self-loathing in an astral reality of her making. (And aided to said place by her cat IYKYK)
This book is witty, full of "millennial-core" references and is wildly relatable. Several times throughout, something would happen, and the main characters monologue would match my own internal reaction to the scene. I found a deep connection to the characters. I have been several of these characters in my own life, especially Elise, right down to the comical therapist interactions and Osmosis Jones references.
Casey Deann's unique style of writing comes alive on these pages. If you've read her other works, you know she is a talented sci-fi/thriller writer. There are moments that her dark, thrilling writing bubbles to the surface in some of the more nail-biting scenes in this book.
Everything Does Not Suck by Casey Deann is a dramatic tale of an internal battle with oneself. The story sinks its claws in and does not let you go through the very last page. I will be thinking of this book for a long, long time.
This book is one I will go back to. You can feel each emotion as you're reading. Beautifully written. Easy to follow. Thank you Casey Deann for the journey.
Incredible! What a great emotional read! This story is very well written and had me feel so many emotions throughout the entire journey. I found myself in the family dynamic, especially in the place of the oldest sister, and the characters are so relatable! The dark and sarcastic humor is on point, I just love it and can't recommend it enough! Give it a try!!!
