There are two ways to claim a birthright...or steal it.
The new school year at Heksheim Academy of Myth and Magic is about to begin — and two things are weighing heavy on sixteen-year-old Ember Lothbrok’s mind. First, Ellesmere Island’s children are disappearing without a trace. Second, the Kitts, her foster family, have made a surprise offer of adoption.
Being adopted would mean Ember’s best friend, Fen, would become her brother…but she can’t help feeling like it’s also a betrayal of her late parents. Then, on the eve of the adoption ceremony, the Kitts’ doorstep is darkened by an unexpected visitor with a strange claim on Ember’s future.
And just like that, “home” vanishes into thin air. Again.
Haunted by dreams of a wailing woman, the island’s lost children, and fast falling for a boy with sparkling eyes, Ember searches for the key to the mystery. But as truth is revealed and traitors are exposed, she learns that the deepest secrets are all drawn in blood.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Absolutely loved this book! After reading Legend of the Wildlings earlier this year I have been anticipating Drawn in Blood and it definitely did not disappoint.
The twists and turns throughout this book will leave your head spinning. And let me say that first plot twist, OMG, I was definitely blindsided by it.
The relationships between the characters, both new and old, are amazing. You can truly feel everything the characters are feeling throughout this book.
100% recommend you read this book. And after that ending, I cannot wait for the next one!
FIVE FREAKING OUTSTANDING STARS!!!!!!! From start to finish, it was absolute perfection. Leaps and bounds better than Book 1 and I dont know how thats possible! So freaking good! I will hear no remarks otherwise. You hated this book? The door is that way and leave me out of it! This book was amazing. I sobbed and sobbed a bit more. When I thought i was done and everything was good, nope sobbed again. The literal grief I felt, along with Ember, cannot be understated. I felt her grief, rage, and unrelenting love for those she cared about. She's so good, so kind. After everything, she still chooses kindness and empathy. Aoife angered me to no end. I knew something was messy, but I wanted to be wrong. Ember had so much hope. How could she do it? Then that twist with someone i thought was gone. And yet, after her explanations, do I hate her or love her or maybe understand her just a bit? Its so hard. There's many great and poignant moments throughout the story. So many life lessons but also such hope. I think by the end, I know no matter what happens, Ember will be OK. I love the loyalty of Fen and Killian. But also a few other characters I dont want to mention for spoilers sake. I hope that Maeve can look up to ember and they can both heal from this ordeal. I cant wait until book 3
Once again Brittney Brewer has sucked me into the fantastical world of Ellesmere. Drawn in Blood is the spectacular follow up to the first book in the series, Legend of the Wildings.
If at all possible this book was even more magical than the first. I loved how every moment held just a little magic, figuratively and literally. Not to mention the feelings of a close community and a great sense of family. The twists and turns are plentiful, heck one of the biggest plot twists happens at the beginning of the book that causes my jaw to drop and my suspicion to go up. From that point on, there's a dark cloud hanging over everyone, things are happening and something just doesn't seem right. I had my theories. It feels like that this time around Ember faces an even bigger mystery and when the big reveal happens... it just all makes sense.
What an ending! Drawn in Blood was outstanding, it really sets the atmosphere, and it's the perfect Fall read. I'm at the point where I'm totally committed to this series, and to these characters. I'm already ready for the next adventure in this modern fairytale.
The second book of the Ellsmere saga had me hooked from start to finish! I loved getting to attend more classes with Em, Fen, and Killian in this book. Odette is a great addition to the squad (definitely giving off Luna Lovegood vibes).
I’m going to keep this brief & not say much else to avoid spoilers because SO MUCH happened in this book but the theme of family being deeper than blood was just so heartwarming, even if it took a while for that to sink in.
Like book 1, if you’re looking for a series that gives Harry Potter vibes mixed with Norse mythology, then I highly recommend this one!
Thank you to Britt for an ARC in exchange for my honest review!
I am so enthralled by these characters and their story!!! There is a huge plot twist at the beginning of the book & ends with another, making me very impatient for book 3 to come out 🤣 the characters are so relatable and I can see my teenage self in Ember and my daughter in Maeve 🥹 Brittney Brewer is an amazing author!
Tropes: 📚Found family 📚 Slow burn romance 📚 Chosen one 📚Ancient magic 📚 Dangerous prophecy
We are back with Ember, Fen, Killian and Odette for the start of another school year at Heksheim Academy. This is the sequel to Legend of the Wildlings. The Kitts have graciously offered to adopt Ember and while she is excited at the possibility of finally having a family she has craved for years, she is also torn worrying if she is betraying her birth parents by accepting. Insert major plot twist when a mysterious stranger arrives changing Ember’s world completely. This is just the beginning of mystery, magic, ancient prophecies and a beautiful slow burn romance. And the ending? Wow!
I adored this book along with all the rollercoaster of emotions it put me through from anxiety, laughter and even tears of sadness. If you loved Harry Potter and Percy Jackson but with a generous helping of Norse mythology, then you need to read this series. I absolutely can’t wait for the 3rd book to come out now.
Thank you to Brittney Brewer for gifting me an ARC copy to read in exchange for my honest review.
I received an ARC copy of the book, and I’m dying for book 3! 4.5 ⭐️ I liked book one, and I loved book two. Reading of Ember’s journey has been lovely. The twist and the beginning of the book, and the twist towards the end had my jaw on the floor. Eira is the mom we all need. Maeve and Theo are the most precious children. Cannot wait to read more of Ember, Fen, and Killian!
Oh my god what a ride!! No spoilers but jeeze that was some twist !!! So now my jaw is back off the floor, my heart has been put back in my chest and my head has stopped spinning. I feel bereft it’s over. Ember and co that we met in book one go on yet more mind blowing magical adventures. Killian I want to be 16 again and fall in love with you ❤️ Fen I need you as my brother. I can’t say too much about the plot as I don’t want to ruin it all I can say is you need this book in your life. READ IT ASAP. Do read legend of the wildlings first though. I literally cannot wait for the next book My book of 2024!!!!
*Drawn in Blood*, the sequel to *Legend of the Wildlings* by Brittney Brewer, is an absolute triumph. The stakes are higher, the mysteries are deeper, and the character development is exceptional—this book is impossible to put down. Literally purged through the book in one sitting!
As the new school year begins at Heksheim Academy of Myth and Magic, Ember Lothbrok faces challenges that would daunt even the bravest of heroes. The disappearance of children on Ellesmere Island casts a shadow over the magical world, and the offer of adoption from the Kitts, her beloved foster family, adds an emotional complexity that tugs at your heartstrings. The internal conflict Ember feels about accepting this new family, while grappling with the loss of her birth parents, is portrayed with such raw authenticity that it makes her journey all the more compelling.
But just when Ember thinks she might find some semblance of stability, a mysterious visitor arrives, upending her life once again. Brewer keeps you on your toes with plot twists and revelations that are as shocking as they are satisfying. The pacing is perfect, with every page bringing new surprises and deeper layers to the story.
The relationships in *Drawn in Blood* are beautifully crafted, especially Ember’s evolving dynamic with Fen and her growing feelings for a boy with sparkling eyes. The way Brewer weaves these personal connections into the larger narrative of mystery and danger is masterful. You feel every bit of Ember’s pain, hope, and determination as she uncovers truths that are as dark as they are profound.
The themes of identity, loyalty, and the price of power are explored with nuance, making this book not just a thrilling read, but a thought-provoking one as well. *Drawn in Blood* is a perfect continuation of Ember’s story, rich with emotion, suspense, and the kind of character development that makes you fall in love with the characters all over again.
If you were enchanted by *Legend of the Wildlings*, you will be utterly captivated by *Drawn in Blood*. Brittney Brewer has outdone herself, delivering a sequel that is both a worthy successor and a stunning work in its own right. Five stars, without a doubt! Thank you Brittney for allowing me to read your advanced readers copy, it was truly my pleasure.
This book is everything!!! I loveee how female role of Harry Potter it is. Ember is legit the “chosen one” this time but holy cow was there tons of twists and turns. People you thought cared for you turned on you for the worst! Finding out the people who are supposed to be there for you are the ones who hurt you the most. And those who hurt you are regretting everything they did. Seriously one of the best series and this one just made it so much more.
I have sooo many questions tho!!! What is going to happen to Jarl???
Ember Killian Odette and Fen always into mischief. It was first just Ember and the boys but then there came Odette who is every bit of Luna Lovegood as can be besides blind! Loveeee the character twists. And loveee Ember and Killians relationship!!! Sooo cute!!! And the version of quidditch is really amazing too! This book has been amazing and my first book I annotated so it took me so much longer to finish. But I loveeee all this world builds. And just everything mythical about it makes it so much better.
Keep writing my dear. I want more books!! These are golden. Don’t ever let their story die. Haha Ember and Killian need more. And Theo! I want to see where he goes in life. And of course Maeve!!!!!! I’m so excited to learn more about her!!!!
Also Fens family is very important to a lot of things in life. The feeling of home. And especially the way they just love anyone!!!! Ahhh such a Wesley thing! But so much better

I received an ARC copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
This book started off strong with a major twist and I enjoyed the storyline throughout with a few caveats. There were some parts of the plot that were darling as this is a YA read. I liked this book better than the first in the series as I loved the expanded world of the characters and getting to know the main characters better. The slow burn love story that is developing is endearing and I loved reading those parts of the story. I also love a character redemption story, which this book had. You can tell this story has more to go, but it didn't end on an unbearable cliffhanger, which I appreciate. However, there were parts of the plot that really bothered me, and the second half of the book was hard for me to get through. Without spoilers, there is a new, unexpected character and the relationship Ember has with that character as well as that character’s progression were hard sells for me. There are also two characters who are two similarly named – Thea and Theo. When Theo is introduced, I had forgotten all about Thea and so when Thea is re-introduced, it was confusing. This is probably nitpicky but as someone who already struggles with character recall from previous books, I don’t love it when there is an added challenge. Overall a cute YA magical read.
THIS!!! You really did your big one! I so thoroughly enjoyed this novel, I’m really not even sure how to put that into words. Book 2 had so much found family in this novel that it makes me really really wish I was adopted into said family. The way this book really took on its own identity, which I felt like book 1 might have lacked a little bit, felt so special. This book really was one in it its own. The magic system here is so crazy along with the prophecies, ancient magic, the God’s beliefs system, it is all so intriguing. This book was definitely an emotional roller coaster. There were so many plot twist I never saw coming. I truly can’t wait until book 3 to see what happens with these kids. I feel like I’ve grown attached to these characters and harm cannot come to them, Brittney you really did your big one. I advise everybody to pick up book one and read it and then follow up with book 2.
I do have to say my favorite part is every time Finn looked at the other two and told them to stop being weird!!
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐I finished reading Drawn in Blood, Book 2 of the wildly successful series by Brittney Brewer last night and I am already writing a review because this book has quickly consumed most of my brain and willpower to move on. Lol! I didn't want book 2 of the Ellesmere Saga to come to an end! When I read a book it's for the friends I make along the way and to say that Ember, Fen, Killian and pals will be lifelong book friends of mine is a severe understatement 🫶 I just love these characters and their world so much! I am absolutely stunned and amazed at how much personal development and growth these characters experienced between the pages of this book, and with how the plotlines were drawn together at the end, I am left bereft without book 3! I will be waiting with utmost anticipation for book 3 where we continue to uncover the mysteries of Ellesmere and the wildlings!
Don't miss out! Grab your copy when it publishes on October 13, 2024!
"The blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb" Honestly, Brittney has completely blown me away! This beautiful soul has captured me again with her words, and the way she tells Embers story is just 😭🙌👏🖤 She has given a voice to a brave, kind, and lost young woman. We come back to Ellesmere a year after the start of Embers' arrival with the Kitts. With big choices looming in front of her, she gets slapped with the biggest plot twist... Or so you think. Ther is love, laughter anxiety, found family, more anxiety, a beautiful slow burn, anger, frustration, sorrow, and so many more emotions. When I tell you I cried so many different kinds of tears during the last half of this book, please believe me! I can't wait to read the next chapter in this series as there is still so much left to tell! Thank you for a truly amazing book, Brittney, I truly can't wait to see what you come out with next!
Wow I am absolutely needing the next book in this series asap. This was amazing. This second book in the Ellesmere saga really dropped some bombs on us in the first half and after about 40% in the story picked up A TON MORE and took us somewhere entirely new. This was such a wild ride and I loved every moment. I could not put this down and I didn’t want it to end. I really enjoyed the new places and landscapes we got in this book. Some of the scenery is absolutely beautifully described and I really felt like I was there. I was never bored and felt like I was on this adventure with the characters. I’m in love with this world and this second book really made me want to go there even more than the first book. The first book in this series was excellent but this second one has blown it out of the water for me. Congrats to Brittney Brewer on writing such a magnificent second installment. Can’t wait to see what the future holds.
Drawn in Blood brings us back to Ember and her friends and throws her into a world full of unexpected twists, deep emotions, and a mystery that keeps you hooked. As she returns to Heksheim Academy, nothing is as it seems, making this book a real page-turner. Seriously, I couldn’t put it down.
What really stands out is how Brittney Brewer balances the magical elements with real, relatable emotions. Ember’s journey isn’t just about solving a mystery; it’s about figuring out who she is and where she belongs. The characters feel real, and the way their relationships evolve makes you care about every decision they make.
This book isn’t just a sequel; it’s a full-on adventure that pulls you in and doesn’t let go. If you loved Legend of the Wildlings, Drawn in Blood will blow you away with its depth, surprises, and heart. I can’t wait for more!
*screaming from the rooftops* “EVERYONE SHOULD READ THIS BOOK!!”
I am absolutely blown away by what I just read, if I thought Legend of The Wildlings was amazing…this blew it out of the water! The very definition of a book series that gets better with each subsequent book.
I cannot wait for the 3rd (hopefully forthcoming) book in this series. And will eagerly devour it when it does come out. Hopefully soon!
This book starts with a huge revelation and ends with another huge revelation and cliffhanger, so if you don’t like cliffhangers, I’d wait to read this until the series is completed!
Found family, secret/unknown “royalty”, mystery, magic, suspense, slow burn romance…this book has it all.
I loved every minute of this book and didn’t want to put it down! One of the best books I’ve read this year!
Thanks to Brittney Brewer for the ARC. I’m truly honored!
Brittany had me sucked in from the very beginning and really showed out in this one! The first of the series, Legend of the Wildlings, was good, but a little too similar to HP for me. In this book you can see that the author really showed her true potential, and it's absolutely incredible!
Im obsessed with the relationship building, the character building, and everything in between!
I was into it from the beginning, but THE PLOT TWIST! After that I couldn't stop! I had to know what happened next!
This will definitely be a series that I will see all the way through, and I literally can't wait for book 3!
The only reason I put four stars is because it wouldnt let me put 4.9. It became just a tiny bit repetitive towards the end, but overall this is a five star quality book for YA readers!
Okay, this took me so long because my first trimester with this pregnancy brain has been HORRENDOUS. But the book was amazing ❤️
There were so many twists and turns, but the one in the beginning had me like 😳🫣 I absolutely love the continuation of found family even though things are a little different in this book. I absolutely love the chemistry between the characters, the drama and conflict they face, and the perseverance and persistence they show. I love the theme of finding oneself in the midst of anguish.
This book, just like the first, makes you feel like a kid again. Where you can’t wait to turn the next page to see what happens. Where you stay up all night for “just one more chapter”. @brittbrewerauthor you have such a way with storytelling and imagery. It was a BEAUTIFUL book. Acceptable for all ages as well. ❤️
Ok so after the first book, I had to read this slow because I put myself into a reading slump after the first one. I have been obsessed with the Ellesmere saga since day 1 and this book has not let it down at all.
Them plot twist's... BOOYYYYYY are they insane! I don't want to spoil anything by saying too much, but never did I imagine them! Genius writing!
All the emotions are here, I went from happy to ecstatic jumped right into crying sad tears back to being overly excited, talk about emotional whirlwind 🤭
10/10 again Brit, a well deserved 5 stars, absolutely incredible.
Bring on book 3! However I don't want this series to ever end. It will 100% always be one of my top series. 🙌🙌
This is the second book in the Ellsmere saga and it took me on a wild ride. The plot twists and turns kept me reading and wanting to pick up this book. While the first book was very much a similar story to HP, this book developed its own story and unique characters. The growth we see from Ember is awesome and to see her relationships with her friends and family (and a certain someone) was enchanting. The riddles and mysteries kept the pages turning and I was so sad to see it end. I was excited to learn more of Ember’s past and the lore of the Lothbrok family and how Ember would intertwine it with her future family. The ending was set up nicely for another book in the series and I am so excited to read it but sad for it to be over.
I received this book as an ARC in return for an honest review. I enjoyed this 2nd book (sequel to Legend of the Wildlings) SOOOO much better than the first! The characters are more developed and their relationships are more complex than in the first book. There are little details that work as great foreshadowing elements, which make some much sense when you reach the second half of the story. New characters are introduced which add additional layers to Ember's past as well as more questions about her potential future. Left on a peaceful cliffhanger, I look forward to the next installment of this story.
Slow burn romance, sacrifice, betrayal & the bonds of found family make this a captivating read for YA audiences.
- ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - 🌶️ (sweet slow burn teenage romance) - Tropes: ✨Found Family ✨Chosen One ✨Ancient Magic ✨Norse Mythology - Similar To: 📚Harry Potter 📚Percy Jackson
Drawn in Blood was such a great read! There were a few twists that totally caught me off guard, but they fit perfectly with the story Brittney had been building. And Killian—what a beautifully complex, morally grey character. He’s just chef’s kiss. I’m still wondering what’s going to happen to him after that ending, but it feels like the perfect setup for Book 3. Plus, the cliffhanger at the end? I literally gasped and thought, ‘Oh, of course!’ The way it all came together was brilliant. I seriously can’t wait to see where things go next!
I loved Legend of the Wildlings, but Brittney really outdid herself with Drawn in Blood. Holy moly! The first plot twist had my jaw on the floor. Literally didn’t see it coming AT ALL.
There were a lot of other twists and turns throughout. I absolutely LOVED the slow burn between Ember and Killian. It was really well done and drawn out. Had me on the edge of my seat until the very end. 🫶🏻
Speaking of endings. . . You’ll have to read for yourself what happens, but I definitely didn’t see that coming either.
If you felt like book one too closely mirrored Harry Potter, give book two a chance, I promise Brittney really veered off the beaten track with this one!
Brittney. This. Was. A. MASTERPIECE. Honestly, you outdid yourself with this one. After reading LOTW last year and recognizing how very HP it was. This was the book that had you claiming your own identity in the YA universe. The first initial plot twist was an absolute blindside. I definitely smelled something rotten from the get-go. The small little details woven into the background just made the main story absolutely immaculate. I canceled plans and wanted to call into work so badly just to keep reading this. Ember is a true badass. I'm excited to see how the story progresses and how the relationships evolve. Definitely one of my favorite books YTD. ❤️
Couldn’t put it down… Brittney Brewer has done it again! Drawn in Blood is a fantastic sequel to Legend of the Wildlings in the Ellesmere Saga Series. Her ability to create an engaging and imaginative world with deep, rich characters blows me away. I can usually anticipate what is coming. But her twists and turns kept me engaged and guessing. I didn’t want to put it down and the ending was satisfying while leaving enough unfinished business for Book 3. Ember, Fen and Killian’s friendship gets tested and a budding romance is sweet and tender. The new characters introduced are unique and add lots of color to the story. This book embodies what love really means. I can’t wait for #3!!!
I did like this more than the first book in the series, but the Harry Potter fanfic style was still evident throughout the story.
Though the plot veered into more unique territory, it was difficult to forget about all of the elements from the first book that I wasn’t a fan of.
Ember seems to be settling into her new magical life fairly well, and the Kitt’s propose adopting her officially. As she is thinking it over, her presumed-death mother returns, and Ember feels compelled to go with her and attempt to rebuild her life. Aoife drove me nuts, and though it became clear why she was so uninterested in the minutae of Ember’s life, I was really frustrated about how she seemed to know or remember so little about her own daughter – like her eye colour.
I did enjoy the progression of the relationship between Ember and Killian, and appreciate that it’s been kept age-appropriate (as the characters are 15/16).
I received an eARC of this book from Brittney Brewer; all opinions are my own.
Ma'am, my heart can't take all this mystery and tension. This book is a rollercoaster. I wanted to cry, to laugh, to giggle, to throw fists, and maybe throw the book once or twice. I found one of my favorite characters. My heart wants to put every character in a bubble for safety. I love how this story is unraveling, and I cannot wait to see how this turns out. I am obsessed with the trio. I want to say so much more about this book. The plot is wonderful. The descriptions are very detailed and easily imagined. There are little hints here and there that go deeper into the story and finding them is part of the captivating part of the book. Go read book 1. I hope you love it.
The second book blew me away! So much twists and turns that you can‘t sit still!
Though I still wanted to slap some sense into Ember when she told Fenrir that they‘re not family anymore. That one hurt! After all they have been through. But Killian luckily has been able to get through to her! And finally finally the end. 😏
Theo…omg! We have to protect him at all costs! Please!
But I knew when after a few chapters that one big plot twist came up, not going to spoil it here, it would not be the happy one Ember thought it was. And I was right! Bad vibes all the way through!
This is book 2 in the Ellsmere Saga and can not be read as a stand alone.
I am really enjoying this story and has quickly become one of my favorite YA series! I cannot wait for book 3! The beginning was a little bit slower but quickly picks up pace. So much happened in this book which I appreciate. There were somethings I thought were going to be drawn out but weren’t. I can’t say too much without spoilers but if you know you know.
If you are looking for a magical read that gives Harry Potter vibes with Norse Mythology I highly recommend checking out this series!
I can’t wait to see what comes next for Ember, Fen, and Killian!
