This series is a firm favorite, and I was so thrilled to get back into it with a new book.
As always, I loved the characters, and the evolution of the relationships - Hasan and Subira's family are going through drastic changes, and they're all trying to find new footing. What I really enjoyed about this book was that Subira had a prominent role, and Jacky, Niko, and Davor were on the mission, so we got to really watch their relationship grow and heal. I would never have expected to like Davor as much as I do now. As Jacky told him, it doesn't make his behavior before okay, but she would hope the family would give her a second chance if she had something devastating happen and then became a mean, depressed asshole...and so she was willing to give him a second chance. And I don't think she'll regret it.
It was so great getting more of Subira too, and more of her secrets. I don't know if I mentioned it before, but I have been wondering if her big secret (that she described in the last book as the family's greatest secret) has to do with the first werecat. We know Hasan was changed by him. We know he was a total asshole - Hasan was rattled last book when Subira compared Hasan to him. No one has ever explicitly said he is dead. And so I wonder if Subira has him...contained somehow. Anyway, that's just wild speculation.
This book, according to the author, is book 10 of 15 that she arced out, and it is clearly transitioning us into the last act. The witches have been positioning themselves as the enemy for awhile now, pulling their bullshit under the cover provided by the animosity between werewolves and werecats. But now it's out in the open, and as they all acknowledge, the witches have declared war. And goddamn right they did, doing that shit to a CHILD. I was impressed that it looked like the wolves and cats are going to work together on this. It's logical, because they're in the same boat, but it's impressive that they can put personal shit aside. Though I don't trust Callahan not to take advantage, I oddly have some trust for Corissa. She seems to want to move forward, and has signaled in previous books that she's not as unhappy about Jacky and Heath as Callahan - I think she is looking for proof that the two groups really can thrive together, with Jacky and Heath as a test case. She's as tired of war as Hasan. And she is pained by the deaths of her people, which is so different from Callahan - he seems to see them as expendable pawns, okay to sacrifice for the greater good. The Russian pack is the biggest example of that.
My only quibble is that I wish we got to see Jacky and the Everson pack talk. There is a misunderstanding there that each side needs to resolve, because they need each other and care about each other too much to let it stand. The pack thinks Jacky is so betrayed by Fenris that Jacky doesn't want them around anymore. And Jacky thinks the pack are angry or hurt that she killed Fenris - she is giving them space because she feels like being present would be a constant reminder, and disrespectful to their grief. It would heal both sides so much if they could talk, because right now they're hurting and there is no reason for it.
Anyway, I loved it, and can't wait for more.

Which is exactly what I did.
Jacky Leon is a series I enjoy because of the ecosystem that it has built—the world, the characters, the quirks, the mystery and thrills... it all round to a wholesome experience that immerses me entirely. And in this moment in time, I craved that feeling.
[SCARRED RESOLVE] carries that ecosystem and the essence of the series so well with it. While the plot itself is not outstanding, it is the fuzzy feeling of the romance, comfort of family, anticipation of the thrill and need for vengeance that lends it high regard in my mind.
Jacky is always badass with showing who exactly is the real power in the room (SPOILER— IT’S HER CALLAHAN); Heath is a solid and stable alpha and a loving calming wolf to his cat. I love how their relationship matured from friendship to love conversation by conversation.
Subira is an unexpected treasure I look forward to exploring more. The family and pack are truly a delight and lend so much to the plot.
How is this series so cool and yet so passionate? I am just a captivated audience at this point. Let me gobble whatever is dished!

It was easy to look back on losing a loved one and only remember the perfectly happy moments and grieve them. It was another to be mature enough to know that things had not, in fact, been perfect. It was also heartbreaking in its own way, and I knew it well.

FINALLY! I’ve been waiting over a year to see what’s next for one of my favorite UF characters! I love Jacky Leon and every single one of her chosen family! The writing is tight and nuanced with all kinds of underpinnings that serve to make this series completely addicting.
The majority of this installment doesn’t hold quite as much suspense or high powered action as others have, instead it focuses more on the deepening of family relations between Jacky, Niko, Davo, Subira and the rest, as Jacky and brothers set off to hunt in the wilds of Alaska. We learn some very interesting tidbits from both Davo and Subira that help us understand them much more and deepens our sympathy and connection to them.
Never fear, however, the big action does hit in the last 30% of the book or so, it’s hard, fast and everything K.N. does so well! And, of course, the ending is just wonderful. My biggest complaint is that it’s WAY past time for Jacky and Heath to formally mate or tie the knot, though. We are on book TEN, for heaven’s sake! And, the pack is suffering because of that lack.. Still, and always, I’m already anxious for more!

More of Jacky
Just when you think these books can't get any better Ms. Banet proves they can. Her were cats and were wolves are a tight unit now, and there is a war coming between them and evil forces. I had a hard time waiting for this one and goodness knows how I'll manage until the next one is out. He books never get old or boring. If you haven't read one before start with number one. I can promise you will not be sorry.

This series is an old fave - as is all of this author's work. However, I did find bits of this a bit...dull I suppose.
The main plot of tracking down the werecat just wasn't that interesting. How it ended and what it means for the over-arching plot was interesting, but I did find myself wading through this one a bit.
I still love the characters and every book in this world, though!

This was great. Hard to say anything without spoilers at this point. I'll keep the vague.
One point that doesn't add is the strength of werecats vs werewolves as at the beginning of the series it is almost as if the one young werecat of Jacky can take on several at once yet by this book and the one before, we are dealing with wolves that are even stronger. It doesn't add and is a change in the way the world works, IMO, like it was convenient to bring the strength slightly closer to have these battles. I get that Heath has gotten some strength from something between them but it seems that Landon and several other are now close or over her strength.
Even with that, I have really loved this series and now might do a reread before the next.

I usually love a Jacky novel but this one wasn’t quite what I was expecting I guess.
Jacky is grieving after Germany and having to kill Rainer, Niko has moved to Texas and the family is a bit shattered. So this one is more about the family than Heath, so maybe that’s what I was missing.
They get the call about a werecat in the Last Change but of course it is more complicated since it’s Jacky. Even she notices and comments :)

The end with Subira and the moon? The research KB does is phenomenal but unfortunately wasted on me this time.
There are even more books and we are promised a wedding, not sure if I will keep going but it has been a good ride.

This book started with a punch in the feels and then became a nonstop ride to the end. There was a ton of world building dropped in this book, so much lore, and a lot of interpersonal stuff was brought up or mostly resolved. Definitely one of my favorite in the series so far. Jacky being like "Of course nothing is normal. I'm here." really felt like something I've said.

Jacky goes on a hung with two of her siblings.
A few years ago the.relationship between Jacky and her.adopted family was more adversarial than familial but over the changes that Jacky has gone through in her daily life so too has.her.relationship with her.family. She.Will always be Hasan's youngest daughter and his most rebellious child but some of Jacky's personal traits are starting to rub off on her siblings and she.now.enjoys a familial relationship with the.majority of.them. After.the.events in the previous book her brother Niko returned to Texas with her so he could be.close to his.son Dirk. So, when the Bureau of Shifter Affairs asks for a.meeting allowing her to bring only one companion,...... And no werewolves allowed.....Jacky picks.Niko which is fortunate as he immediately grasps the reason for the.meeting. A werecat has lost control (it's called the last shift) and.killed a human couple in the wilds of Alaska, for the.werecat there is.no.coming back.from.this.so some.of Hasan's children (as they are responsible for.dealing with issues like this) must go.to.Alaska to hunt and.kill the murderous werecat. .............. Jacky is still reeling from the events.in the last book and this situation is too similar so.she's emotionally off her game, good job she's got.her.brothers.with her.for protection and.support...........

I loved it! It felt good to be back in this series. I have a thing for road trips so I enjoyed the visit to Alaska. All the different factions and distant family members are dropping petty disagreements and combining knowledge by the end of this disturbing incident. Scarred Resolve did not get resolved and I'm so looking forward to the next book.

LOVE LOVE LOVE! I was so excited for this book and I wasn’t disappointed. It is exciting to see everything coming together; the witches from Dallas, Jacky’s half form in the previous book, family relationships starting to heal, info about the Moon Curse. There is a lot more to the curse than anyone thought. It is also officially war and for once (that we know of) the werewolves and werecats are on the same side. Will this truce last? Will this be what finally brings the moon curse together? What spells has Subria been keeping intact and why is she willing to die for those spells?

Family. Always accepted. Always loved. No exceptions.
I've enjoyed this series from the start and every installment since. As with any series, I liked some more than others. This one was a favorite for several reasons.
😻 Jacky and Heath are an amazing couple! His temperment is a perfect balance for Jacky's and vise versa. His love for her is palpible on the page. They support each other beautifully.
🐺 Landon and Dirk 💕
😻 After the events and changes that occured in Secrets and Ruin, Subira plays a much larger role in book 10 and I'm loving it! From the get-go, she's been an mysteriously intriguing character. She is a powerful, sensitive, loving matriarch and she's a badass. I can't wait to learn more about her.
😻 Hasan has stayed in his place while still being helpful, which was a joy to read, and offering some fatherly support, which was a bit surprising. Again, Subira is a badass!
😻 I thoroughly enjoyed the time spent with the siblings: Jacky, Davor and Niko. She's not had alone time with both of them prior and the stressful mission provides an opportunity for them to bond, as I'm sure Subira intended. That and they'll need one another if they're to survive this undertaking. I can't say I had many feelings about Davor before this book, but after it, I see him in different light.
I enjoyed the family aspect a bit more than the hunt, but it's never a dull moment with Jacky. I'm hoping in the next installment she'll be able to finally talk with the pack and together they can grieve their loss.
The author mentioned there'd be 5 more books. Sounds like it'll be intermingling more with her spin-off series Kaliya Sahni and her Cambions, who were mentioned in this installment. As always, I'm once again impatiently awaiting the next installment, which will be a nice bday pressie for me: War Games @ 17 Jan 2025.

Another fantastic installment!!!
K.N. Banet made us wait a long time for this book but it was worth the wait. It was very well paced, lots of drama, different points of view, action, trauma, death, supernaturals & phenomenal continuity. K.N. Banet has truly made a master piece of a series and I highly recommend it to everyone. The only real things that annoyed me about this book was that it had hardly any Heath & Jacky time, Jacky acted like a brat in some instances & there were some spelling mistakes. But other than those, it was a great book and I could not put it down.
The beginning of this book saw Jacky struggling with grief over Fenris & her staying away from the pack because of it. Niko is living without a territory at the moment and living just on the border of Jacky's territory. Mischa is still the most nasty of the family & I really want her to die at some point, but at the moment she is running around on her own & telling people to give Jacky a hard time because she is mad at her. Hisao is following her for safety. Hasan is still not talking to anyone, the twins are focused on building a new family home for their mother in her territory.
Jacky is called into a top secret meeting with the BSA & Werewolf Counsel. There everyone found out that a Werecat in Alaska has gone through the Last Change & killed some people. Jacky & Callahan throw shit at each other but Jacky had Niko with her for backup & they one the verbal debate when Niko told Callahan to address Jacky by her new title, Jacky daughter of Subira. This shocked the hell out of the Werewolves & made them more afraid because Subira is WAY more powerful.
The family has a meeting & its decided that Jacky, Niko & Davor would go after the Last Change Werecat. Unfortunately things to not go to plan because the siblings walked into an extremely deadly situation they were not expecting. Turns out a large evil sect of witches that had been working with the Dallas witches, have learned not only to hide their scent but to force the Last Change on Werewolves & Werecats & control them.
Jacky, Niko & Davor were in a fight like no other. Up against a Last Change Werecat, multiple Last Change Werewolves & a large sect of evil witches. A lot of the witches got away, including the leader that then astral projected to Jacky & Davor to taunt them, while safe on the escaped plane. Still, a lot of witches were still there, I lost count at ten & the siblings killed the lot. They also killed the Werewolves & Jacky killed the Werecat with some help from Niko & Davor.
They called the family to report & Hasan, Subira, Corissa, Callahan & some of their trusted Werewolves came through a Tribunal door to see all the evidence left behind & the bodies. The siblings reported everything & what they found was the worst news. Someone had fixed an ancient broken spell to control the Moon Cursed but while they can control wolves with somewhat ease, they do not have the power to control an adult Werecat. Jacky was informed that the Last Change Werecat she killed was a child & she lost her shit there for a minute and rightfully so.
They found the recipe for the potion that prevents the shifters from smelling the magic & it cannot be stopped because it was so well done by using the Moon Cursed blood as an ingredient. Only a half breed can sense the magic now. It was officially decided that it is now War. Not just between the Witches & Moon Cursed, but it is Witches against all the supernaturals. It is now on, because they are using Moon Cursed Werecats to control because they can't with an adult. But fortunately, for the first time in probably forever, the Werewolves & Werecats are now united & working together to fight the witches.
Jacky also had a VERY interesting conversation with Subira & learned a lot about magic. It was very enlightening. But also somewhat secrets were revealed as well. Subira is the biological daughter of the first Werecat & the niece of the all powerful witch who created the Moon Curse. Subira is probably the most powerful witch on earth & is continuing to gain in strength with each full moon. She cast Great Magic spells thousands of years ago, that she is still holding to this day & she said she would die before allowing herself to drop that control over those ancient spells. Very interesting & would love to know what those spells are. We also find out Subira's age, which is currently Five Thousand One Hundred & Twenty Four. Wowza!
Heath had a minor adventure, that enabled him to give the Family a heads up that something was wrong with the situation with Jacky & her siblings. We got to see from his point of view & how much he truly loves Jacky & is struggling something fierce being away from her. It was awesome reading that & I am absolutely BEGGING K.N. Banet to give Heath & Jacky the Mating Bond in the upcoming books.
The thing I loved the most about this book was Jacky, Niko & Davor all working together & bonded as a family. Jacky has finally completely bonded to her brothers & loves them both fiercely & they love her just as much. It was beautiful to read them coming together & bonding. My favorite thing of this book, even though it was not a lot, I FREAKING LOVE SUBIRA!!! That little woman is so quirky, fun, loyal, powerful & utterly full of love for her children. I laughed when she called Heath her son & he nearly had a coronary hearing it lol She is such a hoot! Also Jacky is now utterly devoted to her, loves her completely & has openly said that she would die for her. I think she will forever hold the title of Jacky daughter of Subira now, & not go back to her other one even if that fence is mended.
The book ends with everyone getting word that it is now War & to start preparing. The next book is going to be VERY interesting & I cannot wait!!
K.N. Banet made us wait a long time for this book but it was worth the wait. It was very well paced, lots of drama, different points of view, action, trauma, death, supernaturals & phenomenal continuity. K.N. Banet has truly made a master piece of a series and I highly recommend it to everyone. The only real things that annoyed me about this book was that it had hardly any Heath & Jacky time, Jacky acted like a brat in some instances & there were some spelling mistakes. But other than those, it was a great book and I could not put it down.
The beginning of this book saw Jacky struggling with grief over Fenris & her staying away from the pack because of it. Niko is living without a territory at the moment and living just on the border of Jacky's territory. Mischa is still the most nasty of the family & I really want her to die at some point, but at the moment she is running around on her own & telling people to give Jacky a hard time because she is mad at her. Hisao is following her for safety. Hasan is still not talking to anyone, the twins are focused on building a new family home for their mother in her territory.
Jacky is called into a top secret meeting with the BSA & Werewolf Counsel. There everyone found out that a Werecat in Alaska has gone through the Last Change & killed some people. Jacky & Callahan throw shit at each other but Jacky had Niko with her for backup & they one the verbal debate when Niko told Callahan to address Jacky by her new title, Jacky daughter of Subira. This shocked the hell out of the Werewolves & made them more afraid because Subira is WAY more powerful.
The family has a meeting & its decided that Jacky, Niko & Davor would go after the Last Change Werecat. Unfortunately things to not go to plan because the siblings walked into an extremely deadly situation they were not expecting. Turns out a large evil sect of witches that had been working with the Dallas witches, have learned not only to hide their scent but to force the Last Change on Werewolves & Werecats & control them.
Jacky, Niko & Davor were in a fight like no other. Up against a Last Change Werecat, multiple Last Change Werewolves & a large sect of evil witches. A lot of the witches got away, including the leader that then astral projected to Jacky & Davor to taunt them, while safe on the escaped plane. Still, a lot of witches were still there, I lost count at ten & the siblings killed the lot. They also killed the Werewolves & Jacky killed the Werecat with some help from Niko & Davor.
They called the family to report & Hasan, Subira, Corissa, Callahan & some of their trusted Werewolves came through a Tribunal door to see all the evidence left behind & the bodies. The siblings reported everything & what they found was the worst news. Someone had fixed an ancient broken spell to control the Moon Cursed but while they can control wolves with somewhat ease, they do not have the power to control an adult Werecat. Jacky was informed that the Last Change Werecat she killed was a child & she lost her shit there for a minute and rightfully so.
They found the recipe for the potion that prevents the shifters from smelling the magic & it cannot be stopped because it was so well done by using the Moon Cursed blood as an ingredient. Only a half breed can sense the magic now. It was officially decided that it is now War. Not just between the Witches & Moon Cursed, but it is Witches against all the supernaturals. It is now on, because they are using Moon Cursed Werecats to control because they can't with an adult. But fortunately, for the first time in probably forever, the Werewolves & Werecats are now united & working together to fight the witches.
Jacky also had a VERY interesting conversation with Subira & learned a lot about magic. It was very enlightening. But also somewhat secrets were revealed as well. Subira is the biological daughter of the first Werecat & the niece of the all powerful witch who created the Moon Curse. Subira is probably the most powerful witch on earth & is continuing to gain in strength with each full moon. She cast Great Magic spells thousands of years ago, that she is still holding to this day & she said she would die before allowing herself to drop that control over those ancient spells. Very interesting & would love to know what those spells are. We also find out Subira's age, which is currently Five Thousand One Hundred & Twenty Four. Wowza!
Heath had a minor adventure, that enabled him to give the Family a heads up that something was wrong with the situation with Jacky & her siblings. We got to see from his point of view & how much he truly loves Jacky & is struggling something fierce being away from her. It was awesome reading that & I am absolutely BEGGING K.N. Banet to give Heath & Jacky the Mating Bond in the upcoming books.
The thing I loved the most about this book was Jacky, Niko & Davor all working together & bonded as a family. Jacky has finally completely bonded to her brothers & loves them both fiercely & they love her just as much. It was beautiful to read them coming together & bonding. Reread 10/8/24: the audiobook was amazing as per usual

Favourite series but not a fan of this one.
Felt much shorter than others after a longer wait between books.
And with basically no Heath in it again. Booo.
More drama and trauma without the good stuff so frankly felt like a repeat of the last book. Both no heath both dealt with last change. Both were some foresty isolated far north place either full light or full dark i mean. Its like the joke "okay you can copy my homework but just slightly change the answers" vibe
So yeah... was a bit anticlimactic to me. Especially since you get a lot of vagueness before you read the book so you dont know what to expect and i twll you what if i knew it was going to be what it was id just read the teeny tiny good parts in this and skip the rest. And im hoping this isnt the crash and burn i fear when authors lose happiness for their series and stop caring and ruin it right and the end and apparently theres multiple more books to come which yay but honestly i want ber to write these forever because this series and the mcs are the best. But i need more cute family time and by family i mean heath jacky and carey at home without constantly having to deal with other grown adults and packs and extended family and yeah i need a happy fun book and i was expecting their wedding but we got war? Like bruh. And now im guessing the next book or so will be this war bs probably her being captured by the creepy holo dude who will experiment on her and have her tortured in some lab and heath and hasan will come rescue her and have to work together to sneak in and that incident will be enough for hasan to pull his head out of his arse like jabari did and apologise and begin mending the relationship and then end with a wedding and idk i hope im wrong but if the next 2 books are going to be war and the rest of the series is going to be all this insanity and then oveturning callahan and jacky and heath sitting on the council as rulers of all their kinds and be a political violent rest of series then im gonna be devo. But given how this has all been set up idk short of them naturally concieving a child vs her being a lab experiment for mygi and them captiring jacky and heath and doing a designer baby with strengths and no weaknesses or whatever from both species and then the baby being all moon cursed will end up being able to control the curse and basically be like the witch who created the curse and can undo the curse and also control the witches and be some super baby idk itll be annoying if it goes so dark and trauma and scifi and yeah i hope carey waits til shes at least mid 20s to turn into a werecat or wolf and not be forced like dirk.
Idk why but ibe got an impending doom radar and its going off. Plus its like if i have to wait a few years and a few more just to slog through that war depressing type books after the past 2 books of that too ill pribably wait til the entire series has finished and binge it so i wont waste 10 years of my life waiting of the next book and keep being disappointed.

This book was good. I always appreciate a re-visit to this world. This isn't a series that I can read a bunch back-to-back, but it's nice to come back to periodically.
In this book Jacky is recovering from all the turmoil from her visit to Niko's territory. I didn't remember all the nitty gritty details of the ending, so some of the beginning bits of this story were a slight surprise, but my lack of re-reading the previous didn't really hamper my reading experience otherwise. Niko is now living in/adjacent to Jacky's territory. He wants to be closer to Dirk. The Africa family units are more solidified and still friendly. The other werecats are all near or completely absent in this book. Jacky is still deeply struggling with Fenris's death and how that will affect her relationships with Heath's pack. Most of her grief issues seem like set up for another plotline/cohesion between books.
The heart of the conflicts picks up when the governmental agency, the BSA summons Jacky and presents her with a problem that is her job to deal with. Everyone is on board and supporting her cause for once. She and her brothers, Niko and Davor, team up to seek out a problem werecat that seems lost to the Last Change. As ever with Jacky, things go a bit awry as they go on their hunt.
On the whole, I enjoyed this story, and was always eager to keep reading. However, it had its share of problems. I think I hope the hunt the siblings embark upon would feel more adventurous, but instead the build-up was a bit weak and just felt like blander diary logs. It was realistic, but not the best lead up to the high conflict and climactic scenes.
The dialogue throughout the first two-thirds of the book felt stilted at times and the author got a little heavy handed with some descriptions; all making some of the chapters a bit clunky to wade through. There were some moments that the author paused the narrative to provide more illustrative details, but I thought the interruption to better set the scene was more jarring than helpful (so perhaps it was the order the author composed the scene rather than the actual description).
I enjoyed seeing more of the evolving dynamics between Jacky and her brothers. The progress in their relationships didn't feel especially grand or overly important, but rather was the subtle and slow growth that feels more foundational. No other relationships really had much progress in this book. Perhaps a little within the pack, Carey had a few scenes, and Heath had a moment with Subira.
The book had a good and interesting ending. I thought it is all tying in nicely to the greater series arc(s). My only real issue came from Heath's scenes where he drew conclusions that seemed unfounded. It felt more for plot service that logical, but it wasn't a huge detraction for me.
I truly enjoyed reading this book and I look forward to what comes next.

"Scarred Resolve" is a an incredible installment in the Jacky Leon series. The plot is riveting and catapults the storyline up to the next level preparing fans for the inevitable, war!
Our story begins with Jacky attempting to distance herself from the pack in order to allow them to grieve over the death of Fenris as well as her guilt for killing him. She is also concern about her brother Niko and how he is adjusting to life living in her territory. Before Jacky truly has time to deal with any of this she gets a call at the butt crack of dawn from Bethany Kirk of the BSA. It seems the BSA has demanded that Jacky attend a meeting at 5 a.m. at the BSA and although she can bring a plus one, it cannot be a werewolf. She is given little other information.
Well, Jacky decides that she will take her brother Niko with her and when she attends the meeting she comes face to face with Callahan, a werewolf she would love to open up a can of Whupass on! However, the information she receives is startling. It appears several human couples camping a various wilderness parks have been slaughtered by rogue werewolves but the latest victims were slaughtered by a werecat in Alaska. The BSA wants Jacky's help and she is not about to be saddled down with Callahan and his minions.
When Jacky returns home she keys in Heath as to what has transpired and that she will be leaving along with Niko and Davor to hunt down the murderous rogue werecat. However, none of them has any idea what dangers they are about to embark upon.
Meanwhile, Heath has his own worries. He loves Jacky and knows how capable she is but he also needs to deal with the deaths of the humans who were harmed by the rogue werewolves. He has a plan to financial compensate the families with their grief anonymously. Unfortunately, while trying to do so, things don't go as plan and Heath quickly learns there is more going on than meets the eye.
This read was chocked full of suspense and moments of tenseness. Our beloved characters are at their best but that just may not be enough because there is a sinister force at hand that they have never had to deal with before. Jacky, Niko and Davor do not have the skillsets to handle all they are about to encounter and they will need to call on every member of their family including her disgruntled father.
I really enjoyed this read and cannot wait to see where this storyline is heading. The author has stated that there are only 5 more books in this series so these next installments will prove to be epic in my humble estimation. While I am sadden to know that this series will be coming to an end, I am also excited to see what all the author has planned for us.

I waited for the next book in this series for so long. KN Banet books will always be my obsession. There isn’t one book that I have read so far that I haven’t absolutely loved. With that being said… OMG I FREAKING LOVED THIS BOOK! I was on edge the entire book. Normally it takes longer for the drama and action to start in these books but pretty much right off the bat the chaos started after only a few chapters. I read this book in a span of 6 hours lol. I wish I’d drawn it out but we are getting a new addition in January. YAY!
Anyway, I loved that I was able to read more about Jacky’s other siblings. I have’t read too much about Davor’s side of the story. We haven’t heard much about him yet other than his anger. It was really nice to see more about his background and personality now that he’s not so angry anymore. Let’s not even get started on Subira. I love that we are getting to know more about her instead of Hasan crazy ass all the time. The strong bond developing between Jacky and Subira is so awesome. I can’t wait to see how their relationship blossoms during the chaos that’s about to happen. From what I’m seeing the relationship between Hasan and his kids may be on the mend come the next book. Seeing the soft side of him towards his kids and mate makes me have hope for the future.

I enjoyed this latest adventure with Jacky. She continues to work on herself & developing her relationships within her Werecat & Werewolf families/communities, even when it's hard. Especially as they keep growing & connections change.
The characters within this world are very 'real', with all of the complex elements that make us (& any supernaturals) someone you could easily know &/or relate to.
The world building has been cleverly integrated into our existing world (as ours is still currently without known paranormals unfortunately), giving us a different dimension of what everyday might be like. It's always interesting to me to see how differently it's approached within each Author's stories/series.
As a 'Cat Lady', I'm partial to any stories about Werecats, but I enjoy all of the other supernaturals, paranormals, & associated 'normal' humans too!
I'm impatiently waiting for the next books in the series (if only Authors could write as fast as I read! 😆).
I look forward to seeing what happens next for Jacky & Hugh, along with everyone else in their world. I'm hoping that some of the other series main characters, like Kaiya, will make an appearance too... Maybe???

June 26, 2024We get Niko and Davor as MCs again (I keep making this a TV series and I feel bad that the actors who play Niko and Davor will probably get major screen time in like the 4th season if we hurry up the books). Anyways, the witches are back as villains 🙄and it’s only the tip of the iceberg. The first half of the book (like always) was slow but the last half was sooooo fast, I reached the last page and was still turning; this ended when all my engines were still full-speed ahead.
Jacky is depressed, Davor is undergoing therapy and Niko is learning to live life away from Germany. We are still not talking to Hasan, Jacky is daughter of Subira 🤗 and Heath is very worried about her throughout the whole book because they were not together for most of it. These past two books, they have been separated 😩 and it is killing Heath. Subira is very present and we’re glad she’s keeping her promise, however throughout the whole book we are left wondering what big thing requires her greatest spell and Jacky and Niko were caught wondering 😂…..Ms Banet has never disappointed me with this series so I’m begging that this reveal isn’t underwhelming.

Filler Feeling
I love K. N. Banet and this series normally. This is the first time I've been truly disappointed and the lowest I've ever rated it.
This felt like a filler book. Prep until the real thing, or a bit as if the author didn't know where to take things and was coming up with it along the way. I hope things get back on track in the next book. I guess with such a long track record of hits, there had to be a miss.
Some things I liked. Relationships grew in this book. Jacky's with Landon, Davor, and Carey. Heath's with Jacky's family. Dynamics shifted a bit.
I didn't like what felt like a disconnect btwn the pack and Jacky. While it made sense, the connections w Heath & Jacky and Jacky and the pack are what drew us into this series. It also wasn't until this book that I realized Oliver has kind of been tossed to the side.
Another like..Niko taking charge in the boardroom. Loved it! Heath finally realizes his baby girl isn't really one anymore. Last but not least, Subira taking Heath slightly by surprise w a simple word.
The camaraderie and cooperation at the end was also refreshing, but the series as a whole felt off. This is one I'd been looking forward to for months, but like other books this year, it just didn't live up to expectations.
I love K. N. Banet and this series normally. This is the first time I've been truly disappointed and the lowest I've ever rated it.
This felt like a filler book. Prep until the real thing, or a bit as if the author didn't know where to take things and was coming up with it along the way. I hope things get back on track in the next book. I guess with such a long track record of hits, there had to be a miss.
Some things I liked. Relationships grew in this book. Jacky's with Landon, Davor, and Carey. Heath's with Jacky's family. Dynamics shifted a bit.

No rest for the weary
Jacky hasn’t recovered from Germany and the Fenris disaster when the BSA calls a meeting including the North American Werewolf Council. They insist she go a stop a Last Change werecat who has massacred a human couple in Alaska. Callahan can’t send anyone either and Jacky can’t take Heath or anyone from his pack. Dirk and Landon are okay but both have to deal with the Germany fallout also. Nico lives close to Jacky and Heath’s wolf pack so he can be closer to his son. He knows Callahan was a party of Fenris’ duplicitous behavior as he hid him for 800 years. Carey is still well protected but resents not being kept in the loop at 16 she is half in and always monitored by the human government, the BSA. When supported virtually by her mother Subira, Jabari, Zuri and even Hassan, Jacky and her brothers, Nico and Davor get to Alaska where startling clues that they are in a situation more dangerous than they knew they’d have to address are revealed. An old enemy has resurfaced and has been watching Jacky good deeds. Jacky can’t lose this battle, she has to come home to Heath and Carey and she has a wedding to plan.

Over the last few months Jacky’s busy world included the fallout from the Germany trip like Niko moving to the US plus imagining possible worst- case scenarios, not to mention grieving Fenris/Rainer, it’s all too much. Summoned to a 5AM BSA meeting, she has to leave Heath in the dark about, she gets Niko to go with her. They’re shown crime scene photos of an attacked campsite in the Alaskan tundra, it seems berserk werecat in the throes of the ‘Last Change’. Hat tips the scale to too much.
After decisively refusing help from Callahan’s werewolves, ensuring the BSA understands not only are werecats rare, they’re one of the deadliest shifters and how to work with Werecats, she’s given their evidence. In an immediate family emergency call, Subira insists Davor accompany Jacky and Niko. Working the tough assignment, Jacky realizes this isn’t a new problem. It’s an old one in new clothes and that can only lead to war!
An excellent outing that confirms more Jacky’s are on the way, hints at a possible appearance by Kaliya and the campions and a solid plot to carry a few books! This reader enjoyed more Subira, Davor and Niko.

As this one starts out, Jacky is a bit unsettled from what went on in the last book. She's feels so guilty with what happened with Fenrir, even as she knows it needed to happen. It's put her in an odd headspace and with the pack and even her family. Talking with people helps, especially Niko as he's closer now to be near Dirk. Those 2 pretty much get things cleared up and a path for Niko to follow when Jacky is pulled into a secret meeting and has Niko by her side. From there things seem to move at warp speed, Jacky and her family working on the problem, while Heath is at home working on a different aspect of the issue.
It interesting how Heath figured out somethings with what he was working on. It's just too bad that it couldn't have been communicated to Jacky and her crew, it would have helped them out. Instead things come to a head and it's quite the battle, right until it isn't. What they find out in the aftermath is so crazy and really rocks them all. War is coming and this time around the werecats and werewolves will be on the same side.

I love this series and this cast of characters, and honestly, after the last super emotionally charged book of the series, I had no idea what would happen here, but I was not disappointed. I will say, while excellent (I will get to why), this book was not as driven by powerful emotions or discover of secrets that scar as in the last book and I think that was good, it gave us a chance to catch our breath, while pushing the story along well.
It was good to see the relationship continue to grow between Jacky, Davor and Niko. Especially Davor, that is the biggest reason why I loved this story. We also got to see more the of the relationship growing between Jacky and Subira. I really like that development, but why do I feel like something bad is going to further break Jacky’s heart?
We also saw another example of how tough the paranormal world is and it continues to scar Jacky, both physically and mentally.
I am excited about the next book, I can’t wait to see what this means, and I think the paranormal world as well as the human, is about to be shook.

Very good
This series has somehow stayed the distance, holding onto the depth while navigating all kinds of drama, including blended families.
I'm waiting for the Hisao book.... he's the one we've yet to get to know.
I haven't read the other series, and so I'm annoyed by the references to happenings in them since I can't connect those dots. I'm only annoyed because in the beginning, this was a stand-alone series and called out as such.
Even so, the growth of the characters, particularly Jacky, is very impressive.
As for the plot, there are some leaps that the characters make to come to conclusions that I'm not convinced they would make... but I'm seeing the end goal now, and I'm not sure if I'd have bothered with the series if I'd known it was going to orbit stupid witches.
I did, however, really enjoy Subiras' explanation of magic. I thought it was a bit over explained, as if I was too dull to understand the first time, and even the second, but still, it was lovely.
Because the next book is so new, I will wait a bit to read it.

Gets better with every new book !! (no spoilers)
I’m a huge fan of this series and all the other interconnected spinoffs. Jacky Leon has been on a heartbreaking journey since her induction into the supernatural world. Wow, what a journey it is too. The books give the reader an immersive experience allowing us to experience that journey alongside everyone’s favourite trouble magnet.
This is urban fantasy at its finest if you’re new to the author then book 1 of this series is a good place to start, all of the spin offs are brilliant reading too. Right now I’m envious of potential new readers so much that I’ll probably need to re-read everything, and I really do mean everything by this author. Not trying to wish time away but I’m definitely looking forward to the next instalment.

What is the moon?
When a moon cursed is in the thralls of the last change they are MUCH stronger, faster and deadlier than usual.
In this book Jacky is suffering from grief and (in my opinion) PTSD after everything that happened in the last book with Fenris.
However, the world moves on, and she is still the ruling Werecat of the America's. So, when Werecat business comes up, Jacky answers the call.
Unfortunately this mission dredges up all sorts of triggers from Jacky's past conflicts, including the most recent one with Fenris. Thankfully, she's not alone during this sweeping arc of a crazy quest.
I really enjoy the connections that are made from previous books in the series, and I love learning more about Jacky's family. This was a great book and a welcome addition to the Jacky Leon universe.
