Rise of the Republic #11

Into the Inferno

Rate this book
For the brave Spartacus Division…
…every inch of victory was hell.
Could the Pharaonis finally fall?

After the triumphs of the Battles of the Forts, with Serenea now firmly under Allied control, Brigadier General Spartacus Varinius set his sights upon the Pharaonis home world. The Allies used a tactic reminiscent of Earth’s Second World War—however, instead of island hopping, they began planet-hopping, bypassing Pharaonis strongholds as they zeroed in on the planet Eurysa.

Was the Republic in reach of final victory?

Admiral Ripley Lee Willis had just received his second admiral’s star and additional reinforcements. In a daring maneuver that might alter the course of the war, he struck at the heart of the Zodark Empire. That risk might have cost him his fleet and the command he had worked toward his entire career.

Would Ripley’s fleet outwit his Zodark counterpart?

As the Humtars considered joining the Allies, an old foe emerged from the abyss, sending shivers down their spines.

They thought they had eradicated this evil long ago.

You’ll love this eleventh installment of the epic Rise of the Republic military sci-fi thriller series because the epic battles will make you feel like you are part of the action.

Great story

I usually don't complain in a review. Let me start by saying love the series, hoping you will continue the story passed 12 or expand it out into the broader war against Legion, etc. My complaint is with Coop and the excursion into their training and his fight. It seemed over done. Maybe I just don't like the character. One thing was for sure, I got tired of him and wanted to fast forward through his section, although I didn't. Listen, you guys did great overall. Could I be happier, sure. But you know your stuff and maybe you felt it necessary to tell their story. Coop just seems like a guy I'd want to punch in the face more than have a beer with. Even the guy who dropped the virus was a better character to the story. I'd enjoy drinking a beer with him to understand his motive. And it seems dumb that Admiral Lee should take the fall like he did. It seemed like the people responsible (The viceroy and those who made the virus) should be held responsible - not the area commander who fought the good fight. It's showing a lack of integrity in the Viceroy as if he was fine at CYA.

ANYWAY, that's my take. Loved the story before during and after the book. I still give it 5 stars because it's one of the best of this genre out there.

No flow

I have enjoyed reading this series & looked forward to each new release until now.
It is as if a different person wrote this book using the characters & story line from the series but the style & flow of the words are different making it difficult for me to get engaged with the story. Very disappointing hopefully the author gets the story back on track for book12.

Meh

Not so good. I would even say somewhat repetitive. Many settings seemed recycled and predictable. I didn’t feel like I was able connect with any of the new characters.

This series has been getting too repetitive for a while. Time to wrap this series up.

Another big chapter indeed

Well, I certainly wasn't expecting the series to continue developing, much less in this way. But there's still a lot of stuff to enjoy in these jam-packed ones.

With this book, I feel like the unknown territory we were venturing into after Into The Uncertain has now become familiar after all. For so long, we were left guessing about the nature of the Guristas, and now that's reached its zenith. The Pharaonis aliens are now quite upgraded over being another member race, and remind me of the bugs from Starship Troopers. There's now a massive diverse array of ships, locations and names.

My favourite part of this one has to be Gripen scenes and more exploration about the Humtars. I still have a bias towards aviation and fighters battling it out in dogfights. While the other humans are an interesting take on the trope.

However, I feel like the series should start winding down after all. There are some areas that I feel like either. The training scenes and otbers around the 40% mark I feel slowed the story down and were things we had already seen. Peter Kennedy's part didn't do anything to advance the plot. Characters have little time to develop as they are switched back and forth to a lot in battle scenes that can be drawn out. The new characters I feel are the weakest parts, as they diverge away from the main narrative.

But maybe that's just me. One way or another, it feels like this series has changed and evolved over time and now feels quite different from what it started as. Saying that, I feel the upcoming finale is about due.

Hope you enjoy it too.

Easy Reading

I've done too many negative reviews. I've enjoyed, more or less, the series and thought I'd throw out an attaboy. Not sure if this particular part of the series is the one that gets the 4 stars. I do know that the first 4-6 books were enjoyable reads for me.
Writing was good with the author using a Jay Allen(along with a few others) type format. Multiple POV inc the 'alien' enemy along with non-human allies. Timeline was mostly linear, easy to follow. Author didn't get bogged down into detail and flowed well enough. Science is....maybe not enough who love that part of SciFi.
Enemy is heinous and allies were curious. I liked the characters(embracing some) and tech, tactics were good. However, the action of "fleet sized" battles is a little numbing. Not this authors fault as many-most other writers write huge, scope-less battles that lack detail and lose the finesse of strategy and tactics.
Cons? Plenty but doesn't annoy as much as others and doesn't detract from storyline. Force composition, at leader level, is skewed n a little wacky along with the same old greedy corporations, traitors and bad government. Imagine that.

I just finished the 2nd to last book in the Rise of the Republic series and boy was I not disappointed. I was fortunate to have time to read it so quickly. Normally it would take me a few days, but I got through it faster than expected. This book certainly covers a lot. It starts to wrap up some small storylines and fill in some blanks as well. Also leaves further questions and lays the groundwork for the final book. The writing is great as it has been the previous 10 installments. Left me wanting more and more.

The combat writing is top notch and this book had a lot of it. There's a good amount of ship to ship combat, ground/invasion combat, and space fighter to fighter. The world building has always been stellar in this series. Makes you feel like this is a real universe with real characters and worlds.

I can't recommend this book and the series as a whole enough. I've enjoyed reading the books then listening again on Audiobook through Audible.

Another great read

The detail in this series is excellent. Building a coalition of many to ensure humanity prospers in this detail is worth sticking with Watson and Rosone for all their series.
Waiting with eager anticipation.

Good but slow

Book 11 was good but I felt at times it was very slow. The focus on training was monotonous and took away from the previous books pace. I still enjoy the series and look forward to a final conclusion.

Genocide

This particular work carried a curious undertone that smacked of genocide. I grew wary of the Republic's crushing battle tactics and the enemy casualty descriptions. A sad taste of a warriors mindset.

good but needs a little more review to not read as a rough draft

Another great story but the editors seem to be missing the mark for a lot of the work. Too many confusing sentences with incorrect or missing words. “Once” rather than “one” for example.

Still sharp and consistent

After 11 books, the story is steady and on point. This book ramps up the energy and tension as the final book approaches. Best series I’ve ever read!

Great space opera!!!

The authors did a fabulous job creating a rich world with interesting characters. The number of is huge...but the authors manage not to overwhelm you.

The combat scenes are exciting and well-written.

This was one of the best books in the entire series - IMHO- and that is saying something because this entire series has been well thought out, well written and pages turning at a high pace ! Well done looking for to the next in the series in Sept 2025 ( or sooner hopefully).
