Every single story is a beautifully written gem!

1. The shade of his character – Jessie Lewis (Regency)
Elizabeth, taking care of an ill Jane at Netherfield, feels ill and feverish herself. Her condition unlocks her verbal inhibitions and the comments she makes to Darcy’s face are eye opening and life changing to him and ultimately to her.
- I loved that Elizabeth got the opportunity to have her say for once in light of all the rudeness and animosity she must experience at Netherfield. It has a positive impact on her sister’s love life, too.

2. All that glitters – Julie Cooper (Regency)
Darcy is resolute Elizabeth is not for him, not good, high, wealthy enough, etc. He is thrown for a loop when Lady Catherine informs him Collins is getting married. (Shortest story)
- Loved the nightmare, loved that Richard for once get antsy at Darcy. Loved the church scene! At a few points it was all about Darcy ‘wanting’ Elizabeth, yet it takes a figurative gut-punch to really understand what true love is.

3. Pink Party Punch – Amy D’Orazio (Modern)
A hot and forward Darcy finally makes his move on Elizabeth at Jane and Bingley’s baby shower.
- Not a huge fan of modern retellings as they tend to focus more on the physical, but for a modern this one is clean with only kisses. Darcy is quite vavavoom!

4. Her charms to recommend her – Mary Smythe (Fantasy/P&P)
Love fantasy P&P mashups. In this one, the ladies have ‘Gifts’ and the men are familiars who amplify and can control their spouses gifts.
- Elizabeth’s gift was fascinating. The reason for Darcy trailing her was ingenious. Miss Bingley, sigh, will you never learn….

5. Orange Roses – Frances Reynolds (Regency)
After the Hunsford debacle, 2 beautiful bouquets arrive at the Gardiner residence. The language of flowers offers 2nd chances for the sisters.
- A sweet process of Elizabeth being wooed correctly by Darcy. Miss Bingley – well, she really will never learn…

6. Darcy & the blue devils – Lucy Marin (Regency)
Darcy meets Elizabeth again at Hunsford. He is challenged by a dark mood that overwhelms him from time to time.
- It is all from Darcy’s POV. He is truly smitten, and hasn’t a clue about how Elizabeth really feels. When he is with her, he feels less burdened by the doldrums, but its more than merely love, almost like a spiritual shield. His awakening and understanding is a thing of beauty. Just lovely.

7. Perfectly right – Jan Ashton (Modern)
Elizabeth invents a boyfriend to appease her mother. When they ‘break up’ she and Darcy come to an interesting arrangement. (Longest story)
- Darcy’s motives are clear from the get go. Elizabeth takes longer to understand the truth in front of her. This is a cute and delicious slow burn.

8. Actions, not words – Barry Richman (Regency)
London, dinners at Matlock house with the family. Lady Matlock is attempting to set Darcy up with a wife. She is Oz behind the curtain. Takes place after Netherfield, Kent and Pemberley.
- Poor Darcy is suffering, back at Netherfield, where Bingley is happy with Jane, but he is afraid to try again. Lady Catherine pays him a visit and it gives him real hope. Lady Matlock is lovely!
Getting used to this new voice in Jaff-land and looking forward to his new publication coming out.

9. Symptoms of peculiar regard – Elsie Fulbrook (Fantasy/P&P)
Jane has a unique gift and she uses it for herself and Bingley. She also can’t stand idly by and not help her sister.
- A very sweet story. It was nice seeing Jane as the sort of heroine for a change, yet still in her sedate, sweet way.

An adorable collection of a wide array of short stories. Q&Q knock it out of the park again.

A Top-notch Collection
Affections & Wishes is another top-notch anthology by many favourite Austenesque writers released by Quills and Quartos Publishing that will provide hours of entertaining pleasure for any reader who enjoys Jane Austen fan fiction. It is a fantastic blend of Regency romance, contemporary twists, and touches of fantasy—something for every reader to enjoy.

The stories are all well-written—from enemies-to-lovers, the charm of a playful wager, or the intrigue of a magical cure, plus more. The variety and creativity of the tales provides something for everyone and makes this anthology a most satisfying must-read for lovers of JAFF. I can see myself returning to this collection time and again when I only have a little time to squeeze in a quick story. Perfect for busy schedules. May I hope for an audiobook version?

Highly recommend.

>>Timeline: Varied: Included Regency, Modern, and a bit of magic

[1] The Shades of his Character: Jessie Lewis: ends at 12% on my device
Sweet with a bit of mild language. Darcy and Elizabeth use gemstones to describe relatives and friends. As the blurb describes, an enemies-to-lovers romance.

[2] All That Glitters: Julie Cooper: ends at 22% on my device
Rating: It has a slightly mature dream sequence.
Darcy is in a panic thinking Elizabeth is about to marry Mr. Collins.

[3] Pink Party Punch: Amy D’Orazio: ends at 32% on my device
Modern: Rating: mature: Hilarious and sexy as all get out. Whew! Fan points for sure. Five chapters plus an epilogue. It’s a baby shower and Darcy thinks: Kill me now. Boredom sends Darcy and Elizabeth on a quest to see who can win the most shower games. Hilarious.

[4] Her Charms to Recommend Her: Mary Smythe: ends at 43% on my device
Paranormal with a bit of magic needed to quell an illness at Netherfield. Darcy and nearly everyone there have fallen ill due to an unknown cause. Mr. Jones, the apothecary suggests they call Miss Elizabeth to the rescue. 7 Chapters

[5] Orange Roses: Frances Reynolds: ends at 54% on my device
London: Post Kent and the DHP [Disastrous Hunsford Proposal]. Darcy and Elizabeth attempt to make nice and make up for what happened in Kent.

[6] Darcy & The Blue Devils: Lucy Marin: ends at 65% on my device
When I first read the book blurb, I thought this was a modern story with Darcy in a rock band called The Blue Devils. I was NOT looking forward to reading it. However, it turned out to be a Regency story. The modern Darcy was plagued by the 'blue devils' as he struggled with his attraction for Miss Elizabeth. Whew!

[7] Perfectly Right: Jan Ashton: ends at 78% on my device
Modern: Hilarious story where a career girl devises a plan to avoid her mother’s matchmaking schemes. She and Darcy propose a dating challenge to assist in their dating slump. Hilarious. I had to laugh.

[8] Actions, Not Words: Barry S. Richman: ends at 90% on my device
I loved this story. Richman produced a twist I’ve never seen. It was brilliant and shut down Lady Catherine within minutes. Wow! I never saw that coming. Brilliant.

[9] Symptoms of Peculiar Regard: Elsie Fulbrook
Love blooms… literally in this fantasy romance. The descriptions were magnificent. I adored picturing this in my mind. Fan points for sure.

This was an absolute delight. I can't believe that I used that word but there you have it. I had originally intended to write a few words about each story but I am afraid that they would be repetitive. The shorts were set in a mix of eras and they were each unique in their character and characterizations. What they did share was that they were all, without exception excellent. Some made me smile, some chuckle, some tear up or some combination of the above.
Stop reading this and go read it for yourself.

My Rating: 4.5* rounded up to 5*

This was my Jolabokaflod gift for 2024 that I was just thrilled to receive. This is an Icelandic tradition that I have been participating in for the past five years. I am grateful to Melanie for choosing this book from my list.

This is a delightful collection of Pride and Prejudice variation short stories written by authors from the Quills & Quatros publishing house.

The Shade of His Character – Jessie Lewis
Such a lovely story.
“I cannot agree with her illustration of your character, I should have said jade was much more apt than gold.”

All That Glitters – Julie Cooper
Darcy’s nightmare was such a doozy!
“With a sinking feeling, he realised that when it came to Elizabeth Bennet, he had always fixed his attention on the wrong things, chasing distractions, ambitions, and fears.”

Pink Party Punch – Amy D’Orazio
And the winner is…
“Misunderstandings. They had been the hallmark of their…friendship? More like the bane of our existences, she mused, but then thought, wildly, well, let’s see if he misunderstands this.”

Her Charms to Recommend her – Mary Smythe
The power of touch - whimsical – I loved it!
“After all, it is a truth universally acknowledged that a Familiar in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a magically Gifted wife.”

Orange Roses – Frances Reynolds
The language of flowers – fascinating!
“She reflected with no little astonishment on how much a single rational conversation may resolve.”

Darcy and The Blue Devils – Lucy Marin
Nothing like being plagued by a bunch of little blue devils!
“Soon to be eight-and-twenty, a very good age to be married. If only you could find the right lady, one of the devils in his head said.”

Perfectly Right – Jan Ashton
Relationship consulting – this was cute.
“Hope you’ve recovered from Car and Driver 101. I promise there’s no follow-up test.”

Actions, Not Words – Barry S Richman
When relatives subtly step in to move things along – cleverly done!
“What a colourless life I have reconciled myself to. Duty, propriety, and decorum. Is this the empty reward that every gentleman of good morals must look forward to?”

Symptoms of Peculiar Regard – Elsie Fulbrook
Jane’s special gift – unique!
“Jane Bennet’s hands were tingling. This was not an unusual occurrence; the sensation was familiar, and not unpleasant, but today it was particularly strong.”

Happily Ever Afters Come in Many Hues

Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars

Source: Gift from Publisher

There are nine short stories (seven Regency era/two modern day) by nine talented Quills and Quartos authors in this anthology. Each story is specifically about Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet coming together, and they range between thirty-five and fifty pages in length.

Here is a breakdown:

SHADES Of HIS CHARACTER – Jessie Lewis

- Setting: Netherfield Park – pre Netherfield Ball

- The Premise: While tending Jane at Netherfield, Elizabeth starts to feel unwell herself, and Mr. Darcy is the only one who realizes…

- My Thoughts: I loved seeing Mr. Darcy display such solicitous care for Elizabeth’s well-being and what that revealed to her about him. The color game was unique and interesting. I enjoyed how it gave the opportunity for Elizabeth and Darcy to impress each other with their individual skills of sketching characters.

ALL THAT GLITTERS – Julie Cooper

- Setting: London and Meryton- post Netherfield Ball

- The Premise: Hearing that Elizabeth is about to marry Mr. Collins sends Mr. Darcy into turmoil and confusion…

- My Thoughts: This Mr. Darcy seemed more preoccupied with the financial ramifications of marrying Elizabeth, but luckily Mr. Bingley and Colonel Fitzwilliam give him a swift kick in the pants he needs. This one moves apace and I wished for some more before the epilogue.

PINK PARTY PUNCH – Amy D’Orazio

- Setting: Modern-Day

- The Premise: Amongst the few who are single and childless at Jane’s and Bingley’s coed baby shower, Darcy decides to get competitive with Elizabeth…

- My Thoughts: This one was a lot of fun! I enjoyed the playfulness and competitiveness between Darcy and Elizabeth. The results of who won each party game were diverting surprises and I loved the ending.

HER CHARMS TO RECOMMEND HER – Mary Smythe

- Setting: Meryton – post Meryton Assembly

- The Premise: Mr. Darcy suffers from headaches and may need magical assistance from the healer he insulted to cure them…

- My Thoughts: I love the magical elements in this story and everyone’s different Gifts. Caroline and her harebrained schemes are too much! And although they were partially explained, the extreme propriety concerns still seemed a little incongruent in this magical world.

ORANGE ROSES – Frances Reynolds

- Setting: London, post Hunsford proposal

- The Premise: Ardent boys Bingley and Darcy use the language of flowers to communicate their feelings…

- My Thoughts: I love a courting Mr. Darcy! He does much to earn Elizabeth’s approbation and regard in this tale. I especially enjoyed his actions regarding Wickham and Mary’s report of it. This one also had a similar harebrained Miss Bingley scheme and a quick leap to Epilogue.

DARCY AND THE BLUE DEVILS – Lucy Marin

- Setting: Hunsford, pre Hunsford proposal

- The Premise: Oppressed by his dark moods and mocking voices in his head, Mr. Darcy realizes what or who can alleviate them…

- My Thoughts: I enjoyed being in Mr. Darcy’s head and his POV in this story. I loved the peace, comfort, and happiness he felt around Elizabeth. And it was great to see him take additional actions to clear up their misunderstandings.

PERFECTLY RIGHT – Jan Ashton

- Setting: Modern-Day

- The Premise: Darcy already struck out with his offensive and insulting declaration, and in a self-tormenting kind-of-scheme decides he should set Elizabeth up on several blind dates to help her find her match…

- My Thoughts: I love Elizabeth’s counter, and all the playful exchanges that ensue. The date choices each selected were perfect, creative, and hilarious for different reasons. I love how Elizabeth is truly trying to understand Darcy, and how Darcy just wanted to make her happy. This one was my fave! 🤩

ACTIONS, NOT WORDS – Barry S. Richman

- Setting: London and Netherfield, post Pemberley visit

- The Premise: After noticing her matchmaking attempts are failing, Lady Matlock pokes around and discovers her nephew is already in love…

- My Thoughts: This one was so heartwarming! Lady Matlock is a masterful queen. And I loved the unexpected quarters Mr. Darcy received encouragement.

SYMPTOMS OF PECULIAR REGARD – Elise Fulbrook

- Setting: Meryton, pre Netherfield Ball

- The Premise: Jane has a magical sight to see both the affection in someone’s heart and the object of it represented with plants in bloom…

- My Thoughts: Although a little similar to the other fantasy story in this collection, I loved Jane’s magical ability and her instrumental use of it. I love that we continued to learn about Jane’s sight as the story progressed and how other characters reacted to it.

FINAL THOUGHTS:

💕 Affections and wishes are unchanged, and so are the happy conclusions for Darcy and Elizabeth in these nine tales.

💜 A bright and colorful array of love being discovered, love being desired, and love being declared.

💐 With a captivating mix of Regency, modern, and magical tales in this collection, Quills and Quartos delivers a beautiful bouquet of blooms to for readers to appreciate and delight in.

Outstanding variety of stories.

If you are new to this genre, this would be an excellent introduction to both the Jane Austen variations world and these authors in particular. I can’t tell you my favorite story. Though all distinctly different they were all worthy of reading again. Which is not surprising given the caliber of editing for this collection. I loved it.

Highly recommended.

A very satisfying anthology

Like a well planned menu, this collection caters to all tastes, though I found every dish charming, yet unique. Seasoned with humour, or a touch of the paranormal, or a creative re-interpretation of the traditional recipe, each tempts the tastebuds delightfully. Highly recommended.

What is better than an anthology of short and sweet Pride and Prejudice variations from many authors whose Austenseque works you have come to love over the last several years? In Affections and Wishes, you will find just that--there is a story to satisfy every Austen lover as each author brings their own unique twist on how Elizabeth and Darcy eventually find happiness with one another.

This anthology is filled with endearing novellas that will make you smile and fall in love all over again with our favorite literary couple. I really loved the range of stories, which has everything from slight shifts in the classic story that included the Darcy POV we all wished we had gotten to a modern day take that finds Darcy and Elizabeth fighting and flirting as they compete not so subtly during Jane and Bingley's baby shower.

What I love most about an anthology like this is that there is really something for everyone and the short stories move so quickly that you can choose to sit and read this in one sitting or spread out the fun by reading one story each day. The constant amongst all of these stories is that you come to watch Elizabeth and Darcy fall in love with each other all over again, through small and more meaningful moments. I thoroughly enjoyed the distinct voice of each author and even had the chance to read a few whose work was new to me!

If like many an Austen lover, you want to recreate that feeling you had when you watched Elizabeth and Darcy's mutual understanding and affection bloom and grow, then I definitely recommend picking up this set of stories and enjoying journey!

Very nice collection of short stories by various Austenesque authors, all variations on Pride and Prejudice. Some of these have a fantasy element, and those seemed to be among my favorites. Most are set in the same period as P&P, and some are modernized. Two of the nine stories stand out for me as especial favorites, and they both have interesting fantasy elements:

"Her Charms to Recommend Her" by Mary Smythe, in which Elizabeth can grow healing plants in her hair - which might be a decidedly inconvenient ability for her, but turns out to be quite helpful.

"Symptoms of Particular Regard" by Elsie Fulbrook, in which Jane can see plant-themed visual clues as to who is interested romantically in whom.

I recommend the entire collection, and I enjoyed reading one story at a time for several evenings.

A collection of HEAs

4.5* rounded down

With such a collection of excellent authors, it's difficult to name a favourite story. Although short, the individual tales were satisfying, and I found them to be perfect for a quick jaunt into a low angst world.

Entertaining

A wonderful collection of short stories by wonderful authors. They're all well written and well edited. I deducted a star because about half of the stories were somewhat bland and well worn premises with not much new to say. However, the romance was lovely and satisfying. That's the fun of these short creations. The HEA must necessarily happen quickly, so there's not much strife or acrimony. I recommend this book highly for an engaging and fun read.

The book is a collection of short stories from various authors. They are all excellent and therefore I gave 5 stars for each story.

THE SHADES OF HIS CHARACTER by Jessie Lewis
When Elizabeth also gets ill at Netherfield Darcy unexpectedly cares for her. This leaves Elizabeth puzzled, she had always thought that Darcy despised her. Soon they get a better understanding of one another and form a friendship. Or is there even more to their relationship?!
Due to her beginning illness Elizabeth is not polite and thoughtful as she would have otherwise been and therefore she tells Darcy what she truly thinks of him. I like that this gives him the chance to think about his behaviour and change it. Elizabeth on her part sees, due to her illness and his caring for her, a side of him she has never expected and also overthinks her attitude.

ALL THAT GLITTERS by Julie Cooper
Darcy believes that duty, money and connections are important for his decision about his future bride. When he hears rumours about Elizabeth's upcoming wedding to Mr Collins he needs to figure out if this is what he truly needs in a wife or if other qualities are more important.
I like Darcy's "proposal" in this story very much. It was quite unique. I also like it very much that Darcy's friends and relatives are the ones leading him to the right path with their conversations and he finally sees, that duty and money are not the most important things.

PINK PARTY PUNCH by Amy D'Orazio
Darcy and Elizabeth encounter one another again at Bingley's and Jane's baby shower. Darcy suggests making the shower a competition - his price should be a date with Elizabeth. Will Elizabeth be able to beat him or will she not only lose the competition but also her heart?
This modern version is my absolute favourite in the book because it is so witty. I especially like Darcy and his statements and actions. This version of Darcy is able to leave Elizabeth speechless - not an easy task. I enjoyed this story so much. This is the only story that is, in my opinion, a little more than "only kisses".

HER CHARMS TO RECOMMEND HER by Mary Smythe
Since arriving at Netherfield Darcy is not able to cure his illness. The apothecary suggests that he needs to seek magical help from Miss Elizabeth. Will she be able to help Darcy?
This story is a magical version in which women have magical abilities whereas the men are the ones to reinforce the abilities of their wives. I like that, after his insult at the Meryton Assembly, Darcy again needs to seek Elizabeth out to get magical help from her. He now must face his error in judgment and apologises, smoothing the path for all further interactions between them.

ORANGE ROSES by Frances Reynolds
When Darcy, after his disastrous proposal, discovers that Elizabeth is in London, he and Bingley try to apologise at the Bennet sisters and win back their regard. Will they be able to convince the ladies of their hearts with the help of flowers?
I like the idea that Darcy, soon after their encounter in Kent, tries to apologise to Elizabeth with flowers and that he uses the "flower language" to do so. I also like that he brings Bingley with him and that both gentlemen get a second chance to convince the Lady of their hearts of their feelings.

DARCY AND THE BLUE DEVILS by Lucy Marin
After fleeing Netherfield Darcy arrives in a dark mood at Rosings for his annual visit. Then he discovers that Elizabeth is also there his spirits lighten. May it be possible that Elizabeth and the blue devils are connected? And how can he convince her that he needs her as a part of his life?
Due to his dark moods this version of Darcy is a bit more vulnerable but also less prideful and therefore able to apologise and swiftly get a second chance. I like the way they are able to solve their problems by talking and therefore they are sooner able to come to an understanding.

PERFECTLY RIGHT by Jan Ashton
Elizabeth has invented a fake boyfriend to escape her mother. Due to this Jane makes her participate in a dating app. When Darcy learns of it he suggests a matchmaking game to Elizabeth - each of them will find three suitable dates for the other. But what about Darcy's own feelings for Elizabeth?
This story is a modern version centered around dating and the concept of dating apps. With his suggestion to find Elizabeth a suitable date Darcy grasps his chance to make Elizabeth happy, even if she will not have him he wants to make her happy by finding her a partner. I like that in the process of their matchmaking they come to know each other better and that they finally find love.

ACTIONS, NOT WORDS by Barry S Richman
Darcy returns with Bingley to Netherfield to help him become reacquainted with Jane. Unexpectedly his aunt Lady Catherine appears at Netherfield's doorstep after confronting Elizabeth. Maybe there is more to this visit than we all thought until now.
Can you imagine Darcy having relatives scheming in his favour? I like that thought, especially Lady Catherine is rather witty and cooperative here and a delight. A side of her I have never seen before. I definitely like to read more of her if she acts in this way.

SYMPTOMS OF A PECULIAR REGARD by Elise Fulbrook
Jane Bennet has a special gift, she is able to see affection and the growing of love. When she sees the first tentative feelings of Mr Darcy for her sister she tries to smooth things for our dear couple with her advice and guide them to her happily ever after.
I like that Jane with her gift is the true main character of this story and that she is, due to her gift, able to help her sister to not push aside her true love. Jane's gift is described in a beautiful way, I like the thought of seeing growing love as growing plants. I really enjoyed this story.

If you are looking for an enjoyable collection of excellent short stories from various highly recommended authors to various scenarios concerning ODC you should definitely read this book.

I highly recommend it.

I was excited for this book to come out because there are so many of my favourite authors work in it. It fell flat to me and did not capture my attention. It was hard to get through and unmemorable. A short story can be as impactful as a full length novel. Please make that your goal. Make it unforgettable.

‎Shades of his Character by Jessie Lewis - darcy pov - unexpectedly very convincing of both Darcy and Elizabeth's change in such short time. Loved how much Darcy obsessed over Elizabeth's comments. Was glad author didn't have Elizabeth profess love for darcy, although she did accept his proposal, and kept Elizabeth's feelings to growing admiration and attraction. 4/5

‎All That Glitters by Julie Cooper - darcy pov - didn't find this darcy much believable and felt like the author tried to do too much. Darcy believes Elizabeth is marrying Collins but doesn't do anything until the last moment. That drama alone should be enough but we have drama with Bingley, Colonel Fitzwilliam, both of them suddenly getting angry with darcy and listing his faults and those conversations didn't make much sense. Also, Bingley critised darcy and said he will pursue jane but still didn't go netherfield, and darcy then says like its because of him convincing Bingley of her indifference even though that didn't happen at all. It felt very disconnected, jumping from one to another without any point. 2/5

‎Pink Party Punch by Amy D’Orazio - so good from start to finish. I usually don't like modern stories as i feel like they don't get Darcy well, but here it's perfect. Loved the banter and Darcy's determination to get her to date him. Elizabeth was also lovely, loved the other characters also. 5/5

‎Her Charms to Recommend Her by Mary Smythe - i found both Elizabeth and Darcy unlikeable here. Even with magical proof of Darcy's regard for her, she still persists in thinking he hates her, looks her to find fault. She has no respect for Charlotte's magical ability to see people's characters, feelings then? It makes no sense. 2/5

‎Orange Roses by Frances Reynolds - nothing wrong with it, its just that nothing moved me in this. E & D meet, apologise, deal with Wickham and then in prologue they marry. I felt E & D interactions lacked the spark and just felt boring to me. 2/5

‎Darcy & The Blue Devils by Lucy Marin - darcy pov - same as canon except darcy is depressed and feeld better when around Elizabeth. Him going back to parsonage and apologising and explaining were so god. Loved reading his thoughts about Elizabeth and their conversations after the proposal. Still faithful to canon Darcy, even with the added depression 5/5

‎Perfectly Right by Jan Ashton - dual pov, modern. Loved both E & D, though darcy's motivations for offering to setup dates for her didn't make sense. Still, i loved their calls and texting conversation. 4/5

‎Actions, Not Words by Barry S Richman - darcy pov - found the writing very awkward and disjointed. Couldn't make sense of this darcy also. Didn't hate anything but didn't enjoy it. 2/5

‎Symptoms of Peculiar Regard by Elsie Fulbrook - jane pov, though focused in E & D. Unique, but i didn't find Elizabeth's feelings very convincing, as she jumped to Wickham's side even after D & E had began to grow closer. I also didn't feel darcy's change of mind convincing but it wasn't that bad. Still enjoyable read though. 3/5

All the stories were very good or excellent!

4 -- Pink Party Punch by Amy D'Orazio -- modern, at Jane's baby shower Darcy bets Elizabeth that if he wins more games than she does, she has to go on a date with him
5 -- Her Charms to Recommend Her by Mary Smythe -- women are Gifted and men are Familiars, Elizabeth's gift is to grow plants in her hair which can be pretty flowers or medicinal herbs, Miss Bingley uses her gift to make people sick in an attempt to attract Darcy, with Darcy's help Elizabeth creates enough lavender to protect everyone

All my favorite authors!! Who can wish for more? 

The Shade of his Character by Jessie Lewis
The colour game is surely interesting. Jade or jaded, there is only Elizabeth who can possibly light up the world make it not only palatable but lovable again.

All That Glitters by Julie Cooper
Darcy realized he was as mercenary as all the people he despised but tolerated. The comparison between Elizabeth and Colonel Fitzwilliam did the job and made it clear to Darcy that how wrong and ill-justified his opinions were. Fix them he did.

Pink Party Punch by Amy D’Orazio
A modern variation! A challenge, a game, and a kiss of a life time.

Her Charms to Recommend Her by Mary Smythe
Magical and botanical!!

Orange Roses by Frances Reynolds
Do you understand the language of flowers? Bingley and Darcy do! And they sure make good use of it!

Darcy & The Blue Devils by Lucy Marin
Darcy realised his mistake soon after he made the disaster proposal, and resolved to put things to right on the way from the parsonage back to Rosings Park. He turned back to beg for a chance of clarify the misunderstanding. And everything seemed different once Darcy and Elizabeth had time for reflections and regrets. The blue devil removed and the blue ribbons prevailed.

Perfectly Right by Jan Ashton
Love this kindergarten teacher Jane. She’s nice (for sure), she is a matchmaker (inherits from her mum of course), and happy with eagerness (the benefit of a modern variation)! Charlotte, as loyal and faithful and pragmatic as ever, acted as Elizabeth’s protector. And Darcy, couldn’t get over Elizabeth and by setting up her with the RIGHT guy, found that there could be no RIGHT guy for her that could be also TOLERABLE to him. Yet, who’s the judge?

Actions, Not Words by Barry S Richman
What a lighthearted piece!! The inheritance of Rosings Park made everything possible, and brought light into LCD’s dire hope of the alliance between Darcy and Anne. Darcy made a safe escape while both Ladies, de Bourgh and Matlock, were too happy to object the prospect of a win-win union. It’s a comedy!!

Symptoms of Peculiar Regard by Elsie Fulbrook
Jane in action. Love in full bloom.

This anthology offers an entertaining mix from nine different authors bringing Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy together in nine diverse scenarios. Two of the stories place them in a modern setting, two incorporate magic, and the rest are more traditional variations of canon. All are well-written and well-edited.

Since this review would go WAY too long if I delved into the attributes of each story, I will only do so for my favorite, Julie Cooper's contribution called All That Glitters: After Darcy leaves Netherfield, Lady Catherine alerts him that Mr. Collins is to marry one of the Bennet girls, and her description of the circumstances make it clear to him that Miss Elizabeth will be the bride. A shaken Darcy rushes from Rosings to London, where conversations, first with Bingley and then with Colonel Fitzwilliam, provide new perspectives for him to consider. The plot continues to build tension and leads to a wonderfully surprising ending.

While I would not say the stories are uniformly excellent, I would give each of them a minimum of four stars and at least half of them a full five stars. They all have multiple chapters--probably short novella length--so you certainly won't feel shortchanged on either content or quality. A great addition to your library to reach for when you want to read a complete story and don't have a lot of time.

An engaging collection of short stories

A very pleasing collection of stories from this always-reliable publishing house. It is always reassuring as a reader to know at the start of a book that will not be disappointed; this was no exception.

This blend of Regency, modern and fantasy variations gives a well balanced set of stories, each charming in their own right as well as a beautiful blend when read together.

Inevitably each reader will have their own favourites; for me it was the two modern variations plus the excellent contribution from a newer author in this field, Barry S Richman.

My individual star rating for each story was as follows,
1) The Shade of His Character by Jessie Lewis - 4* (Regency)
2) All That Glitters by Julie Cooper - 4* (Regency)
3) Pink Party Punch by Amy D’Orazio - 4.5* (Modern)
4) Her Charms to Recommend Her by Mary Smythe - 4*(Regency fantasy)
5) Orange Roses by Frances Reynolds - 4.5*(Regency)
6) Darcy and the Blue Devils by Lucy Marin -4*(Regency)
7) Perfectly Right by Jan Ashton - 4.5* (Modern)
8) Actions, Not Words by Barry S Richman - 4.5*(Regency)
9) Symptoms of Peculiar Regard by Elsie Fulbrook - 4*(Regency fantasy)

4.5 rounded up. This was a nice anthology of short stories based on the characters of P&P. There are nine stories altogether. This is a very varied collection that offers a little of everything. Something to appeal to just about everyone. There were regency, modern and even magical stories. The stories were low angst and sweet and provided a lot of light hearted enjoyment. The authors here are extremely talented and I found all the stories well written and they all flowed nicely.

As with all anthologies, I enjoyed some more than others, but they were all good. My personal favorite was Amy D’Orazio’s Pink Party Punch. I love all of Amy’s books and this story was a lot of fun. It is a modern where Darcy and Elizabeth begin a friendly competition of party games at Jane’s baby shower. Lots of fun ensues when these two competitive and successful people battle for victory. Modern variations aren’t usually my favorite, but this author’s writing is so clever and fun in any genre and I loved it. The banter and chemistry between D&E was delicious!

If you enjoy JAFF, this is a great collection to have. If you don’t have a lot of time and need a quick JAFF pick me up, there is always a story to do the trick. They aren’t long, so you can choose one and read it in one sitting and walk away satisfied and content!

9 wonderful stories all rolled into one book

What do you get when you combine the talents of NINE fantastic authors? You get this book! It is perfect if you only have a little time to spend with our favorite characters or lots of time. Each story (you can see the titles along with a snippet of each story in the book description) is a quick read that leaves you satisfied no matter what your preference is. We get to enjoy traditional P&P settings along with a taste of magic/fantasy to modern. Modern is not my favorite setting but the stories shared here were fun (you have to read this just to see Darcy at a baby shower!!). This will be a paperback book that I will purchase to add to my home library and if an audiobook ever happens along I will have that on pre-order for sure. Looking forward to re-visiting these stories again in the future.

These nine short stories were delightful. I read just a couple in one day but then also I found others just short enough to be able to finish the tale just before I retired that evening. The authors' story descriptions do a much better job than I could ever attempt in giving othe readers the idea of what the premise is all about. Adding any further opinions or details would only spoil it for them.

I have not read stories by all these authors before. However that are a few whose tales are quite familiar to me and enjoyed as I never hesitate to grab any new story by those writers.

This anthology of nine short stories ranges from Regency Era to Modern Era. There is something for everyone. The subplots range from enemies to lovers, magical abilities, and second chances.

I enjoyed all nine variations. I encourage others to give this book a try. The stories are approximately 50 pages, so each one can be read in a couple of hours.

Have a cup of tea on a free afternoon and indulge in our dear couple's stories to learn how they get their happily ever after.

lovely shorts

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! It’s a fine mix of many of my favorite JAFF authors, plus a few who are new to me. Two stories are modern, two involve fantastic gifts, and the rest are our traditional Regency offerings. Several revolve around colors and several revolve around plants. None are boring. Highly recommend!
