Il a publié une quinzaine de romans depuis 2002, parmi lesquels L’Instinct de l'équarrisseur ou Le Trône d’ébène. Son roman La Voie du Sabre (adaptée en bande dessinée aux éditions Glénat) a reçu le Prix Julia Verlanger en 2003. Il mêle fréquemment des éléments fantastiques à ses récits, et se caractérise par un imaginaire très documenté et une écriture percutante. Infatigable voyageur, il aime tout particulièrement l’Asie du sud-est, les Rocheuses et l’Ecosse. Quand il n’écrit pas, il travaille comme directeur de collection dans une grande maison d’édition. Il réside en région parisienne.

Mir hat die Umsetzung leider nicht so gut gefallen wie erhofft. Ich fand es zwar toll, dass beispielsweise Macbeths Frau eine größere Rolle (bzw. DIE Rolle) bekam, aber dadurch war die Geschichte nicht mehr Shakespeares Macbeth. Es ist eine Anlehnung und eigene Weiterentwicklung des Inhalts, aber nicht die klassische Geschichte. Wer sich also auf die grafische Umsetzung der Story gefreut hat, wird hier enttäuscht werden. Wer aber mehr von der Welt erleben möchte, wird belohnt mit wirklich tollen Illustrationen, die mich emotional echt mitnehmen konnten.

Thomas Day e a fantástica arte de Guillaume Sorel trazem uma versão estilizada e muito bela da terrível e fatídica história de MacBeth, Rei da Escócia e a maquiavélica Gruoch ingen Boite, ou Lady MacBeth. A narrativa é centrada nesta última e no seu fatídico poder sobre o Rei e no desenrolar das sangrentas e terríveis ignomínias até chegar ao trono.
É uma magnífica achega à peça em questão e ao delírio do poder, do sexo e da violência, e como a ascenção ao real poder implica o pior da acção humana e do potencial para a crueldade e desvalor do outro.
A arte ajuda muito a absorver o ambiente, a sentir o que decorre no percurso homicida até ao trono, e a experimentar a vertigem de poder da mulher que será rainha, não importa como.
Uma obra de arte, passo a redundância.
Um livro pleno de qualidade.

Thomas Day and the fantastic art of Guillaume Sorel bring a stylized and beautiful version of the terrible and fateful story of Macbeth, King of Scotland, and the Machiavellian Gruoch ingen Boite, or Lady Macbeth. The narrative centers on the latter and her fateful power over the King, and the unfolding of bloody and terrible ignominies until she reaches the throne.
It is a magnificent contribution to the play in question and to the delirium of power, sex, and violence, and how the ascension to real power implies the worst of human action and the potential for cruelty and devaluation of the other.
The art greatly helps to absorb the atmosphere, to feel what happens on the murderous path to the throne, and to experience the vertigo of power of the woman who will be queen, no matter how.
A work of art, to be redundant.

Schottland im Jahre 1040. In einer Nacht voller Donner, Regen und Blitze werden drei Hexen auf das Land von Moray gelockt. Dort treffen sie auf Macbeth und seine Männer, die von der Schlacht zurückkehren. Sie verkünden ihm ihre Vorhersage: Er wird Mormaer genannt werden, die Dame mit den roten Händen heiraten und König werden. All das macht Macbeth neugierig, vor allem, weil der derzeitige König sein Cousin Duncan ist.
Macbeth. Wer hat diese Geschichte nicht schon einmal gehört? Thomas Day und Guillaume Sorel haben sich zusammengetan, um uns ihre Version der Geschichte zu erzählen.
Sorel lässt den Leser in die Atmosphäre des Schottlands unter Macbeth eintauchen dank der wunderbaren "Gemälde", die sich vor unseren Augen auftun. Die Zeichnungen sind atemberaubend, düster und schön zugleich, die Sturmszenen zu Beginn sind großartig, wir haben das Gefühl, mittendrin zu sein. Der Künstler hebt die starken und gewalttätigen Szenen der Erzählung gut hervor, so dass sie einen bleibenden Eindruck hinterlassen und das Drama, das sich vor uns abspielt, vorantreiben.
Day zieht uns mit seiner Erzählweise in seinen Bann, die Geschichte weiß von Anfang an zu fesseln, und wir entkommen dem Joch der Macbeths erst, wenn wir die letzte Seite zuklappen. Dieses Album ist eine sehr schöne Art, die schreckliche Geschichte von Macbeth zu entdecken und den Leser mit seinem Schicksal zu fesseln, mit diesem Eintauchen in den Wahnsinn, in die Gewalt und in den Tod.

I went into this one kinda fearful as my past with Shakespeare has been one of struggle. 😅
The writing is a little what one would expect from a work that has hundreds of years already but I have to say that the translation work is masterful. I really enjoyed reading this much more than I expected I would.
On top of that, the illustrations are simply out of this world. Sorel's art is masterful, the book is worth its price just for the art alone.
I also love the story itself. I knew nothing about it. It was a complete new discovery and I enjoyed every bit of it. It's a story of passion and ambition. Both without restraints.

A persistência intensa da dúvida que se dissipa e transforma em obsessão confundida com amor é a essência da narrativa. Só assim já seria suficientemente arrebatadora. Mas o desenho, a cor e a realização gráfica acrescentam algo que não imaginariamos possível. A nona arte ascendendo.

اقتباس کمیکی از شاهکار جاودانه شکسپیر یعنی مکبث. اثری که درمورد خیانت، زیاده خواهی و خیانته ولی بیشتر از هرچیزی به نظرم درمورد عشقه یه عشقه عجیب که سرنوشت ها رو عوض میکنه. کمیک رو دوست داشتم متوسط بود ولی دوستش داشتم.
