For eight centuries, Emilia Sterling has lived in agony - in love with the woman who took everything from her. Eight hundred years is long enough, and Emilia is finally ready to take her revenge… and kill Stella Khatri.
However, Emilia’s revenge comes with complications. Despite what Stella has done, Emilia doesn’t know how to live without her. And while the Coven Master has granted Emilia permission for what needs to be done, Phoenix Ashburn is a wild card at best.
Emilia has waited eight hundred years for revenge… Can she free herself from her pain?
*Beloved takes place one year after the end of Master of Flames, and contains significant series spoilers. It is highly recommended that you have read both Heir of Ashes and Master of Flames before reading Beloved.
H.M. Darling is a new adult indie author that lives and burns in Arizona with her scrooge of a cat named Tobey. She has a bachelor’s degree in English Literature and Creative Writing. She writes books full of morally gray characters, villainous love interests, and tops it all off with lots of spice!
When she is not writing, you can usually find her collecting houseplants, listening to Taylor Swift, or reading a book from her never-ending TBR list.
“I hate that you’re right. I hate how much I love you. And trust me, I hate that I’m going to do this.”
We are back in Phoenix Ashburn’s world and this time we finaly have Emilia’s story. Its intense and full of plot twists that makes it a page turner from the first page. Short but sweet would be an understatement it is short, cruel, sweet and hot. Betrayals are not always hand in hand with forgiveness and my heart went out for Emilia. For all the pain and the decisions that were already very much overdue. This Book is the perfect start for your spooky season readings. You will bleed with her like her heart has silently bled for many years! I strongly advice to read all the previous books to enjoy it more.
This was a nice short read that really threw you a whole mix of emotions, with Emilia struggling with the loss of her children, not able to forgive Stella for the pain she caused her and Phoenix struggling with her conflicted feelings around Dorian and her role as Coven Master. These emotions were displayed in a way that makes you really sympathise with the characters, and feel your heartbreak alongside them. I would have loved for this to be slightly longer, because I wasn’t ready to leave the world, but I think it ended in the best way it could have.
It wasn’t important to have read the Heir of Ashes series before reading this novella, but I think it does help to understand some of the backstory as to why some of the characters were going through what they were.
Thank you to the author, H.M Darling, for allowing me to read this as an ARC. This is my honest review.
“My children were finally free. I was finally free.”
I went into this book completely blind. Having not read the other previous books, I was unsure what to expect (I’m still finishing up the books). This novella is quite simply put, straight to the point. Emilia needed revenge for an egregious atrocity that was committed against her, and sometimes love isn’t enough to forgive the wrongdoer. This will have you hooked from page one & then have you crying at the end. Plot twists? Was not expecting some of the ones that I got thrown. Had my jaw on the floor!
Completely worth the read.
