You make me feel like every chance is one worth taking. Like you’re leading me out of the darkness that’s ruled my life. When I close my eyes, who I see is you. Show me the way, Rynna. Show me the way out of it. Fuck. Please, show me the way.”

Can someone please tell me why I've gone this long without reading another AL Jackson book? Because I'm seriously disappointed it myself. This book reminded me all the reasons that made me fall in love with this author's words and made me fall in love all over again. Show Me The Way was a beautiful and highly emotional story of love and second chances. It was perfectly paced, with just the right amount of angst, and wonderfully multi-layered characters that you can't help but fall for.
He needed someone to revive his faith just as desperately as I did.
Because looking at him? I suddenly knew he had none of it.
That something had gone dim inside him.
That was the thing about chances.
We didn’t know their outcomes.
If we’d succeed or if we’d fail. It didn’t matter. I had to take a chance on him.

Rynna and Rex are two sides of different coins. Both hurt by their pasts, one is willing the hurt again for a chance at something beautiful, while the other has closed himself from everything for protection.

Years ago, Rynna ran away from the town that she grew up in and the only family she had in the only way she could think to survive. The cruel memories of her past have kept her away, until the passing of her beloved grandmother bring her back and right next door to Rex Gunner.
Damn her for weaseling her way in and making herself a place in a spot where she knew she would never stay. Fuck me for wanting it.

Rex Gunner needs the complication of a beautiful woman like a hole in his head. Done with the hurt that females could bring to his life, the only female that he devotes himself to is his adorable daughter. But when his beautiful neighbor sets her sights on him, he realizes that she sees beneath the brusque and cold man to the wounded one beneath that's yearning for the right woman to make him believe again.

Rex is borderline hostile to Rynna when he first meets her. Slowly but surely, Rynna works herself deeper and deeper under his skin, where he wants her least. But with every beautiful and thoughtful word to his daughter, with her ability to brush his coldness off, Rex begins to see just how different Rynna really is.
Last two times I touched you nearly ruined me. Seeing you like this? Don’t think I’m ever going to be the same. Stealing my sleep. Stealing my breath. Stealing my sanity. Little thief.”

The romance is perfectly paced, with flashbacks to Ryan's past that slowly unveils the reasons for her running. There's an intriguing element of suspense that keep you turning the pages as urgently as the romance does. I was immediately captivated from the very first chapter and it didn't let up until the last page.

I loved watching Rex slowly melt from gruff and grumpy to hesitantly admitting his feelings for Rynna. I loved getting glimpses of Ryan's past and understanding what she's gone through. It made me respect that woman that she is today. The woman that isn't afraid to take a risk, a chance on a man that shows her every reason not to. She wasn't pushy, but had this understated strength to her that I couldn't help but love.

I adored Rex's little girl. She was one of the highlights of this story for me. I adored Rex and Rynna together. I loved the back and forth between them in the beginning, the slow burn and the ultimate implosion. It was absolutely sizzling.

And when everything unravels at the end? Mind blowing!

I'm totally hooked on this series and I already can't wait for more. After meeting Rex's friends, Oliver and Matt, I'm already needing their stories.

The phenomenally talented A.L. Jackson once again delivers an emotionally charged page-turner that completely wrecked me!

Her unique writing style and remarkable ability at story telling is above reproach. A flawless story filled with damaged and imperfect characters, Show Me the Way captivates readers with intensity, longing, anguish, and an unspoken motivation that defies all odds.

I have not been able to think of anything else since I've finished this book. The story is raw. It's unwavering. And it's profoundly deep, exuding a bottomless well of emotions. Completely intoxicating, this book is beyond comparison, and absolutely one of the bests books I've ever read!

Show Me the Way has set the bar to an astounding, insurmountable level in the Fight for Me series. If the upcoming books in this new series are anywhere close to how ridiculously stunning Show Me the Way is, then the series will for sure be an out-of-this-world experience readers will never forget.

5+++ Stars!

This Is Vintage A. L. Jackson

What would you do if a man who ignites your body on fire, constantly scowled at you with sheer anger in his eyes, slams a door in your face, and bolts at your mere touch? Give up? Or pull up your big girl panties and boldly go back and stand your ground?

These flawed, scarred characters and their push/pull relationship pulled me in right from the jump and had me burning through the pages.

I fell in love with Rex. He is the brooding, extremely sexy, alpha male type. He is also a single father, whose complete love and devotion for his little girl, left me in a melted puddle of goo.

Rynna is sweet, but gutsy. Rex wants nothing to do with her, but consequences be darned, she goes after the man who has captured her heart!

This is a second chance goody that is also written with a dual POV.

First of all he's an asshole and she's a weak heroine.

The fact that he forgot to mention to the heroine that

And what about this? Does that means what I think it means? I think so and since it wasn't comfirmed if he did or didn’t so I'll take it how I read it. He also let the wife stayed in his house and this happened =>

“All moments matter. We just rarely know how important they are until the chance to act on them has already passed.”

I have not read an A.L. Jackson book in what feels like a lifetime and right now I am kicking myself because this woman can serious write. This story had all the ingredients of a great romance for me; a hot tortured hero who is good with his hands, a strong heroine who can be feisty at times, a bit of angst, a pinch of intrigue and some seriously hot and steamy sexy times. I loved this story and if the rest of the books in the Fight for Me series are half as good as Show Me the Way, then we are in for a cracker of a series and I’m already anticipating the release of book 2 Follow Me Back.

A few years back Rynna packed her bags and turned her back on her home and the only family she has ever known, her Gramma. She did this because of a traumatic turn of events; it was the only way she knew how to deal with what had happened and the only way she knew how to move forward and deal with the pain she was going through. While she was away, not a day went by where she didn’t think or speak to her Gramma.

Rynna has now returned home after the passing of her Gramma, but with her return are also the painful memories of her past life there and things are about to get even more complicated when she sees her brooding new neighbor, Rex Gunner.

“He needed someone to revive his faith just as desperately as I did. Because looking at him? I suddenly knew he had none of it. That something had gone dim inside of him. That was the thing about chances. We didn’t know their outcomes. If we’d succeed or if we’d fail. It didn’t matter. I had to take a chance on him.”

Rex is a beautifully tortured soul and has been through so much pain. The only females he will give his time for are his daughter and his mother. He doesn’t trust women and has sworn off them completely. His daughter is his whole life and he won’t let anything or anyone come in and destroy what they have.

After meeting his neighbor, Rynna, he can’t deny the feelings she brings out in him and he doesn’t trust himself around her, so he does the only plausible thing he can do; he pushes her away.

Rynna is drawn to Rex like a magnet, not only is he the most beautiful man she’s ever seen but she can feel his pain, anger and bitterness rolling off of him. She would like nothing more than to ease the pain he is feeling and attempt to heal this beautifully broken man.

The attraction and chemistry Rynna and Rex felt towards each other was electric and the push and pull between them kept me enthralled with anticipation. They have both been through so much pain and suffering and I wanted nothing more than to see them heal and learn to love again. They were just the perfect couple and I was desperate for them to get their HEA.

One of my most favorite characters whilst reading this story has to be hands down Rex’s little girl, Frankie. She literally stole the show for me and I could just imagine this little innocent firecracker in a pink tutu that has yet to be tainted by this world.

This was such a beautifully written and emotionally driven story about second chances at love and learning to overcome all the pain and hurt. I became addicted to this relatively slow burn romance story from the first page and just couldn’t get enough of these tortured characters and watching their relationship change, it was beautiful watching them learning to trust again. I would absolutely recommend this story to all fans of second chance love stories and I predict Rex Gunner will melt your heart.

Rex is mine. No seriously … MINE. Corinne and Rex are perfection together.

^^^ and I have a screenshot where she confirms this.

AL Jackson’s poetic words, complex characters, emotional storyline, and off the charts chemistry made Show Me the Way one of my favorite reads of 2017. This book is absolutely perfect.

Sigh ... Show Me The Way really didn't work for me. I used to love ALJ's writing and inhaled all her earlier works, this one not so much. I went in expecting the heart-clutching angst that her earlier books had, here the angst got lost in all the relentless martyrdom and inner monologue going around in circles. He's a martyr extrordinaire, she's a doormat/martyr which was just plain overload.

There were secrets that they kept from each other .... ergo miscommunication. I get that, but what I struggled with is that as the reader I do not want to have to wait until around the 70% mark for those secrets to slowly start being revealed to me. By then I had lost interest and when the manufactured ex drama hit the fan I about lost the plot.

I did a fair bit of skimming just to call this done

As much I loved the audiobook, I really struggled with the story itself. I know when I read a book, it’s not real life, and I try to remember that to gauge my reaction🙄. But this story had a few of my pet peeves.
• It annoys the heck out of me when the h/H pushes the other away because they are stuck in their past. He/She feels they are messed up and can’t be fixed
• Lack of communication between h/H that lead to the big uh-oh moment. Really?

On the plus side, I did like the heroine, Rynnna. There was only one time that I questioned her judgement, otherwise, her character was growing and becoming the person she wanted to be.

As always, kudos to two of my favorite narrators, Andi Arndt and Zachary Webber.

After what it felt like the millionth time he was such a rude bitch (can we say that?) asshole to her when they haven’t even been introduced to each other, I had to drop this ☠️

Girl, just take the sassy, energetic, beautiful child and run away from him, you’re making her a favor anyway.

Boy, nope, your mam could fight for you thankyouverymuch, I would be running the other way if it was up to me.

And NO, no wet panties for someone who is growling, frowning and saying mean things to someone who he is supposed to fall in love with in a few pages.

“All moments matter. We just rarely know how important they are until the chance to act on them has already passed.

Talk about all of the feels!! This was the story of Two broken people who were destined to be together, crossing paths in the most unlikely devastating moment and neither of them ever knew it. Two broken people who found it hard to love and trust someone else, become an anchor of hope and new beginnings for each other. This, was a story of finding love a second time around and having it be the greatest love of all.

After the loss of her grandmother, Rynna Dayne has now returned to her hometown after an eleven year absence. With emotional scars that run so deep, staying away for all of those years was certainly understandable but it’s now a new beginning for her. Now the owner of her grandmother’s pie shop “Pepper’s Pie” Rynna is looking forward to starting over and continuing her family’s legacy through her baking. Meeting the broody neighbor and his adorable daughter was an unexpected event but from that moment, Rynna knew that the father and daughter duo was going to make an impact on her life. She just didn’t know how much.

Rex Gunner is a simple man and he doesn’t need anyone else in his life. His main Priority is his four year old daughter and doing whatever he can to provide for her. Everything else is at the bottom of his list and that’s including his love life. Having a flawed track record and a broken heart to prove it, Rex has given up on the nature of love and he’s okay with it. At least that’s what he tells himself and when he meets the new neighbor, this is the mantra he chants over and over again because falling for someone and opening your heart again like that? Is a vulnerable pain that he’s not willing to go through again. But that’s easier said than done because you know what they say: The heart wants, what the heart wants.

I really liked inked that this was an emotionally driven story that was filled with second chances and hope but I loved the fact that we got other sides to it. We learned of headshaking secrets, we saw bonds that were beginning to form when we least expected it , and we got to witness the healing of two people broken hearts. Rynna and Rex needed each other in a way I could never explain and not only did we see their friendship move beyond that place, we felt it.

If you’re looking for a sweet emotional read, this one is for you.

DNF!!!!!!!!!!!

Nothing says you are the love of my life like letting the evil, EVIL wife that abandoned you and your little girl AND RAN OVER YOUR DOG stay in your bed while you sleep on the couch. Jackass. Guess which bothers me the most?

Plus what a doormat. Growing up is good for a couple of things and one of those should be standing up to the Bitch from Hell Mean Girl that tortured you.

I accidentally came across this book on my feed and i remembered that i really liked this series and also it was one of my first romance books that i've read but didn't remember it sm so i was like why not re-read it bc i can't seem to find any book that i like atm. And omg, this is why i should stop re-reading books from years ago bc i barely even finished it and still can't believe that i gave this 5 stars, what was i thinking idk🤦‍♀️😐 i'm embarrassed.
The H is a jerk, grade A asshole, who acted so wishy washy, couldn't make up his mind, the h was so weak and such a dormant who kept chasing after the H. He is married but separated and didn't say anything to the h even after they sleep together.🙄

“I married her, Rynna, I married her, and I knew all along, I shouldn’t. Maybe I was ashamed to admit it to you or maybe I was just afraid of your reaction when you found out I hadn’t severed it. But I promise, I promise you I was going to. When I told you I needed to get some things in my life in order, that’s what I was referring to. Ending that marriage like I should have years before.”

There is also one questionable scene when his wife comes back and she may gives him a BJ, idk it was not really clarified so i got even angrier😂

"She pressed both her hands on my knees and leaned up, her voice going quiet when she reached for the fly of my jeans. Then let me take the bad away. Let me take care of you. Please, Rex, let me take care of you.”
I groaned, head rocking back on the top of the sofa, breath a hiss on my tongue.

The only thing i remember was that i liked the little girl and she wasn't even in enough scenes.

And the writing style kept getting on my nerves bc the author likes to write in short sentences!!

"She chewed slowly, watching me.
      The air shifted between us.
      Charged.
      That current coming alive.
I swore that this girl emitted her own kind of gravity.
      I dove back in.
Tasting her mouth.
      Her tongue.
      Her lips.
      Relishing."

Idk if i should re-read every book in this series so i can keep embarrassing myself for giving every book 5 stars.😖

Amy writes such incredibly emotional stories and this one definitely hit me in the gut and heart early on. This is a story about two people who have very different lives and back stories but it seems that fate has played a part in drawing them into each other’s present day.

Rex Gunner is a single father to his gorgeous wee daughter, Frankie. His wife left him when Frankie could barely walk and after having his heart broken one too many times he has shut himself off emotionally to everyone else. His every breathing moment is dedicated to being a good dad to his little girl. He will do anything to protect Frankie.

Rynna has just moved back to her hometown of Gingham Lakes, after the death of her beloved Grandmother. After being left not just her home but her well loved pie café, Rynna is determined to honor her memory by carrying on with what her Grandmother started. Rynna has very mixed feelings about returning to this town, she left 11 years ago after being bullied and humiliated so badly in her last year of high school. Her only regret is not seeing her grandmother before she died.

'All moments matter. We just rarely know how important they are until the chance to act on them has already passed. Was this one of those moments that mattered? And why did I feel like I had to take this chance?'

Rynna and Rex are now neighbours. She soon discovers that her grandmother knew both Rex and Frankie very well. Rex is moody and brooding, definitely not open to being a friendly neighbour but it is his gorgeous wee daughter that brings Rynna into their home and daily life. Rex is not interested in getting to know Rynna, let alone making small talk with her but saying no to his daughter is his biggest weakness.

Rex and Rynna have nothing in common but they have everything in common. They just don’t realise it yet.

Rex is definitely attracted to Rynna and it pisses him off. He deals with it by being cold and off-hand with her. He has spent years denying himself happiness because he thinks he doesn’t deserve it. Having any feelings towards a girl will only bring unhappiness into both of their lives so it is not even worth it.

'I didn't even know him, and the man was so mesmerizingly conflicted that he had me overwhelmed with the need to step closer.'

Rynna can sense the pain that Rex holds inside himself and she believes in taking chances, she wants to take that chance with Rex. Thanks goodness for gorgeous wee Frankie! This kid is freaking adorable and it doesn't take long for Rynna to be under her cuteness spell either. The walls that Rex so carefully constructed around his heart are slowly falling down as he falls for Rynna.

'Because you change everything, Rynna. You walk in a room, it's better. And when you walk away, everything grows dimmer. Colder. And I'm tired of living in the dark.'

This is a hugely emotional story as Rynna comes to terms with memories from her past, her grief over losing her grandmother and facing her fears. She is a completely different person now but she finds new found strength in love. Rex's biggest fear is losing his daughter and when his past comes knocking on the front door he is completely rattled over doing the right thing by her.

This is a story of love, sacrifice and redemption. I went through pretty much every emotion ever and loved every moment of it. Another abso-fucking-lutely fabulous story from Amy :-)

'I told you I didn't have anything left to give you. And now, I want to give you everything.'

4.5/5 stars!

This was a breathtakingly beautiful love story. It had all the feels! It had a pretty good amount of angst as well.

Rex was broody and cynical. He was abrasive and his world centered on only one special someone.. His sweet little girl, Frankie Leigh. That little spitfire STOLE THE SHOW! Or, well book in this case. I just adored her!

Rynna ends up coming back to her hometown after many years. She vowed to leave and never return after something happened to her in high school. She doesn't want to, but duty called.

Rex only wants one girl in his life, but his heart has another game plan. Rynna and Rex are both hurting over different circumstances. He can't get her out of his mind. It doesn't help that she lives near him and is a very thoughtful neighbor.

Their love story was pure magic. I fell in love with Rex right alongside her. My heart is filled with sappy love after reading this! They other characters in the book and I can't wait to read their stories as well.

'Show Me the Way,' is the first STANDALONE novel in the brand-new FIGHT FOR ME series by A. L. Jackson. Sexy, romantic and sweet this story is sure to lure in fans romance novels and emotional stories.

Rex Gunner and Rynna Dayne are the protagonists at the heart of this love story; a swoon-worthy single dad and a sweet girl who ran away to escape her past. They both eloquently show their vulnerabilities and I found I warmed to them both very early on. Their chemistry is palpable and led to some very sexy, passionate scenes between the hero and heroine.

As the story unfolds the layers of the past emerge providing understanding for the reader and all the reasons why. For my tastes I found some elements to be a little repetitive, I didn't always love the reasoning of the male leading character, even though I think he's super sexy. Overall this story is a sweet read that offers effortless escapism for readers of the romance genre.

Re-Read Dec 2020

I’m a smidge torn on this. I enjoyed parts of it, and hated others. It does have great audio that used to be part of audible escapes. It’s one of those reads that sucked me in enough to finish, but I won’t remember it. I literally had to just dbl check the character names. Told in dual Pov's.

Rex has buckets of baggage. He’s estranged from his baby momma, and still hung up on his childhood sweetheart that went missing many years earlier. He’s the typical broody H we see in these “hung up” single dad books. He’s a grump and pushes Rynna away for much of the first half.
Rynna has just returned home after a decade away to take over her deceased g-ma’s bakery. She has her own baggage from a bullying incident. (I found this part very farfetched; she refused to visit her g-ma because of some stupid kids) She’s got that total martyr h personality where she accepts everything and just loves/forgives it all out. There’s a pivotal part in the book where she takes the high road that will make you want to throttle her.

Rynna and Rex both have baggage and find themselves living next door to each other. She repeatedly tries to kill him with kindness while he grumps around. His daughter Frankie bonds with her and eventually Rex thaws. Then there’s a twist (that you’ll see coming a mile away) that separates the two lovebirds until close to the end.

I think the biggest issue for me was that I couldn’t relate to the characters. Rynna was just too much for me. She fled town on her 18th bday because she was traumatized by bullies. I 100% could see why she was upset, but it felt very dramatic and unrealistic. She never visited her gma for 11 years because she was so upset. Where did she live? She moved across the country when she was still in HS. *Her attitude reminded me of one of Jay Crownover’s books where the h was so traumatized by thinking her crush called her ugly and dumpy that she was still upset ten years later that it consumed her life. Nash … that’s it :) Rex’s baggage was more tangible, but he was an ass for much of the book.

Bottom Line- Ok for KU, the writing is solid… I just didn’t love it. I never really felt like she was second best to the ex, and ex-wife, but I definitely felt she was 2nd to the kid, which in the real world is the right thing to do, but this is make-believe romance land and I like my h to be the #1 gal. *Safety- for the most part it’s safe. There’s this one “murky scene” that’s left more open than I prefer, but I think we’re supposed to assume he shuts it down because the next sentence he’s racing to the H.
**Total random... I swear I’ve read a book with a similar part of the “Sydney situation” (GF missing/murdered because she walked home from woods/party because H wouldn’t claim her publicly cuz she’s his BF’s baby sis, so she stomps off.) I’m thinking we found out later that h was murdered by a family member. (here we have no clue what happened to Sydney) It’s driving me crazy trying to remember which book it was.

I said it a thousand times before, but I feel like I have to say it again... A.L. Jackons is one talented writer! I just love her! She is an amazing storyteller and this was an amazing emotional journey from the beginning to the end. I was hooked from the very beginning. Her writing style is simply put, a poetry. Her words are powerful and they just flow. Pure perfection. Since I am a sucker for second chance love stories, I absolutely loved her characters and the plot and I can only say that this is one of her best works yet.
Unique, beautiful, refreshing and truly moving love story.
Emotional roller coaster at its best. Heartbreak, love, angst... all combined together.
This one will stay with me for a long time. I went through so many emotions while reading it.
I highly recommend this to all lovers of second chance romance!
Don't waste your time and put this on your TBR list!

4 Rex and Rynna (and Frankie Leigh) Stars

Rex Gunner is left reeling when his wife leaves him inexplicably. He becomes a single dad to Frankie Leigh (who has to be one of the funniest and loveliest child characters I have read) and he exists with his daughter, friends and job for company.

Rynna grew up in the small town with her Granny but a traumatic event on her 18th birthday sent her running to anywhere but Gingham Lakes. Eleven years later she returns to the place she swore she would never go back to. Her Gran has died and there is a house and business to restore.

Rex and Rynna are neighbours and slowly they become more.

I enjoyed some aspects of this book very much particularly Frankie, the relationship between her and every adult she meets and also I really liked Rynna. My heart ached for her and I admired her strength and resilience in surviving an awful experience.

I liked Rex some of the time but equally, there were many occasions when I wanted to slap him upside the head. Probably never more so than when the ex makes the inevitable reappearance. For one awful moment I thought he did the dirty on Rynna but he didn't.

Great secondary characters. Good plot twist. Some very hot moments. Very.

July 2025 - Someone commented on my original review which prompted me to do a re read via audiobook. Excellent narration by Zachary Webber and Andi Arndt. Listening time is 9hrs 55m. I still think this is a really good story.

3 estrellitas para ésta historia, porque me ha entretenido mucho y está muy bien escrita, pero está llena de clichés que ya ves venir y de la que esperaba por su puntuación muchísimo más.

Show Me The Way by AL Jackson is an utterly raw, gripping, and emotional love story that was brimming with so much beauty, passion, and healing. Jackson takes reign as she enchants her readers with her stunning magnetic prose. This book was an emotional experience that consumes you to the core. Right away, Jackson made you fall in love with her characters: Rynna Dayne,Rex Gunner and his daughter, Frankie. Readers were able to feel for the characters as Rex and Rynna were two broken individuals who had their lives forever changed. Both with a haunting past and yet together they were able to find solace, peace, comfort, hope and love.

#ShowMeTheWay

I know I am being super vague as to what to expect but this book was everything you could have asked for from AL Jackson. Show Me The Way showed readers that life is definitely a journey. When one door closes, another opens and another. And for Rex Gunner, his second chance to heal, forgive and love began when Rynna walked into his life and made her mark on his heart. So if you are looking for a book where the writing was consuming and the story was absolutely beautiful then this book is for you.

A strong start to a new series by A. L. Jackson. Characters battered and scarred by their pasts. Friendships that have stood the test of time. And a little girl in a pink tutu who'll steal your heart and a missing wife I could see coming from a mile away -- and I despised her before she even arrived on the page. It still didn't take away from enjoyment of this storyline.

Jackson leaves readers with a big mystery yet to be solved. Those answers may await the third book, although I'm hoping not. No dates set for the next two books in this series. That tends to make me edgy with a bit of disappointment. Not seeing an ending in sight is not always a good thing -- no telling how much time will elapse before the suspense ends.

Listening to the audiobook, I almost can not finish this book. Its really really bad.

The story, the plot, the hero, the heroine and all of other supporting characters. Frankie Lee the suppose to be cute kid, just suddenly disappear in the middle of the story. What a pity. The what is going on with the Rinna?

She was just sexually assaulted, but then next second hot and ready for Rex? And Rex!! This man is lost character. He only shows up as knight in shinning armour. But then he is acting hard to get. Which is corny and frustrating for me.

And the last plot toward the end.... come on! it is so cheesy.

All moments matter. We just rarely know how important they are until the chance to act on them has already passed.

“Someday you’ll understand what I’m talkin’ about. Someday you’ll know what it’s like to be in love . . . You know you’re in love when their happiness counts more than yours. The key is your happiness meaning most to them, too. Put those two together? That’s magic, Rynna. That’s what real love is. It’s two people giving all they have.”
