A noir, sardonic police novel set in San Francisco in the early Seventies. Two recently returned Vietnam vets join the PD as a means to help them smuggle heroin. The city is in the grip of a bomber who attacks public restrooms. Officers McCann and Henry get themselves assigned to the elite anti-terror unit, the better to make the underworld contacts needed to distribute the narcotics shipment, which is being conveyed in the body cavity of a dead soldier.
