Death always has a way of bringing secrets to light. But when the only person who knows the truth is gone, how do you figure out what was real? It’s a shame the dead can’t talk.
Elzora Miller is a human. Wait, that’s not true. It turns out she’s actually a witch. When her grandma dies, a binding spell placed on her as a babe breaks, and the truth comes to light. With no time to adjust, Zoe’s moved to Mitagus, the realm where witches live and enrolled into the Whisperfelt Institution of Magicae.
Zoe’s convinced her new life is a hallucination—a side effect of her anxiety disorder—and it doesn’t help that her magicae is unpredictable and out of her control. Her new life is dangerous, and it’s imperative that Zoe figures out what type of witch she is and that she learns how to harness her magicae before she gets hurt.
Luckily, men from her past are there to help with the transition, and they’re more than willing to protect Zoe whilst she learns to defend herself. But when they’re keeping secrets too, how will she ever know what’s real and who she can trust?
Secret Witch is the 110k first instalment in the Primordial Queen series. This series is a reverse harem, and there’s a guaranteed HEA at the end of the series. This is a slow-burn RH, and members of the harem are added as the book develops. Please be advised that there are triggers in regards to mental health, specifically anxiety disorders.
Letty Frame is an English paranormal and omegaverse reverse harem romance author who writes the kind of fated-mates stories every broken soul deserves. With big feelings, fierce men, and heroines who rise from the ashes, #whychoose has become her guiding motto. Navigating chronic illness and mental health, Letty’s life is chaotic but perfect—and that messy, beautiful honesty lies at the heart of her stories. She writes broken characters, fate-driven romances, and hard-won happily-ever-afters that no one resents them for… except, arguably, their author. After all, what could a mentally ill romance author want more than a happy ever after? A traumatised, emotionally devastating journey to earning it.
Tropes: - Witches🧙♀️ - Academy📖 - Royalty👑 - Virgin Heroes and virgin heroine💕 - Cute/fluffy and obsessed Heroes🥺 - Family secrets🕵️ - Childhood Best friends to lovers with separation (some of the harem were the heroines childhood friends before they were separated) 🫂 - Professor/ tutor x student👨🏫 - Fated mates/ soulmates💫 - Large Harem💞 9 men
The Harem: Mael- The fire witch and one of Elzora’s best friends in childhood. Zohar- The water witch who has the ability of healing others. One of Elzora’s childhood friends but spied on her a few times during the seven year separation. Ryes- The air witch who has the ability to read minds and hear others thoughts. Another one of Elzora’s best friends in childhood. Eirik- The elemental witch who is another childhood friend of Elzora’s. Destined to be the king and is usually off on royal duties. The “leader” of the group Ciar- The dark witch who believes he doesn’t deserve Elzora and she won’t accept in. A softie at heart but kills for a living. His light in the world is Elzora and his magic only wants to protect her not destroy or taint her. Final one of Elzora’s best friends from childhood Etrix- The light witch and slightly older brother of Eirik. Usually looked down upon and is used to being closed off. A little bit mean at first. Jasper- The asshole Earth witch who hasn’t redeemed himself yet. Also tutors Elzora in her earth magic. He doesn’t want to care about her but he does. Necos- The time witch who is Elzora’s professor/ tutor. Unknown guy- This character does not yet have a name but seems to be another soul witch like Elzora. She goes into his mind and reviewed comfort from him.
*Quick note- this book is the first in the series, therefore it does not have smut*
Safety: - Mael, Ciar, Zohar, Ryes and Eirik are all virgins. They have never had a girlfriend. When they met Elzora in childhood, they knew she was it for them. - When Etrix became closed off years ago, it seems he was an epic manwhore. No past hookups have shown up but he was the type for one and done stuff. Elzora does not know about his past yet and she is the person to get jealous easy.. so, I don’t know. - No info on Jasper, Necos and the unknown guys past since they are fairly new characters. - No OW or OM drama - I think Elzora is a virgin along with some of her harem - No sex or smut has happened yet
Quotes: “Not a single one of us has ever had a girlfriend, Zoe. We’ve not dated, we’ve not slept around, we’ve not looked at another woman. There’s only one woman we want—and I’m speaking for the entire group here—and that’s you. So please don’t ever worry about comparing yourself to other women, or thinking that when we’re not here with you that we’re sleeping around. We’re not. We’re never going to. All we care about is you.”🥹
“I’d sacrifice killing if it meant she’d smile at me the way she does.”
“Etrix became a manwhore, sleeping with anything that moved, became poisonous and spiteful. ”
I wanted to include the quote about Etrix being a manwhore for the safety gang. It’s mentioned a few times but thank god no past hookups have shown up.
The main group is so quick to reassure Elzora there is no one else, but Etrix not so much. This book would have been amazing if the main group (Elzora’s friends from childhood) were the only Heroes but I understand why the author added more.
I can’t wait to read the next book! I’m fairly impressed this author made about half the harem virgins since I always love a virgin harem.
So… I didn’t really like it. Mainly, I didn’t like any of the characters (well Ellie was ok). The new world was interesting and the plot was good, but the execution was lacking.
When it came to the characters, the hypocrisy was real. And the high and mightiness is just too much. I hate the whole I keep secrets but you can't keep secrets thing. Being mad at Etrix for keeping secrets while doing the same is just too much. Also, he's not a good person? Dude neither are you! None of them are good people. And I’ve read (and liked) a lot of books where the MC and the supporting characters are not good people, but they have some redeeming qualities (or rather lines they won’t cross that keep them firmly in the morally grey area). But the characters in this book? Not so much. It’s like they wanted to escape that grey area and go fully black.
There is a part where Ciar was mad at Etrix for “being a bully and picking on the weak” when 2 pages prior he’s beating the shit out of one of his classmates because he said hi and Ciar doesn’t like him... We didn’t get an explanation of why this classmate deserved that (besides he might have been a little bit of a kiss-ass, but not a good enough reason to start breaking someone’s bones). Things like this were just like WTF? But whatever. I moved on.
The threats to children though… I couldn’t do it. Being so focused on protecting your girl that you'd do anything, i.e. hurt an innocent child, is not ok and does not make you knight in shining armor. There are a few examples of this in this book. At first, I was like ok they’re not good guys, but I'm sure they have some redeeming qualities… but nope.
Holy smokes, I LOVED this book, and I almost never say this about any book. I finished it and immediately wanted to read it again, it was that good!
One of the things that makes me love a book is the characters. If I love the characters (and if they don't do anything daft or annoying) then I most likely will give the book at least four stars.
Well, in this book we have Elzora (Zoe). I liked her because despite struggling with anxiety attacks and having seen many psychiatrists and therapists who have been unable to help, she has kept trying and doing her best to keep going anyway. I loved how her magic is possessive and protective of her mates, and will lash out and hurt people who make her mates uncomfortable or unhappy. At the same time, this makes Zoe horrified because she's a gentle soul who doesn't want to hurt anyone! Finding out she has magical powers doesn't change who she is. I think I identified with her because, although she's shy, she speaks up when she feels that she needs to. She'll voice her opinion firmly and politely, not letting people walk all over her.
Then we have the men. We still don't know why they left her seven years ago when their magic developed or evolved at the age of 13. They say it wasn't their choice to leave her, but she hasn't asked and they haven't explained it.
Still, you can see that they're utterly devoted to her, and that's what I like. Eirik, the leader of the group and crown prince of the realm, Ryes, Mael, Zohar, and Ciar. Then along comes one or two others. I thought the author did a great job of differentiating the men here. I think Ciar is my favourite because he trusts her to handle the truth and doesn't pussyfoot around it. He showed her his true self from the beginning. Ryes also is more straight-talking and was the first to explain to Zoe that they are soulmates. The two of them respect Zoe's wishes and protect her right to have her voice heard and to have a say in the decisions made about her. That's what I want in a hero!
There's no sword crossing here; the guys live in the same accommodations but they're like brothers. Actually there's no sex in the book at all, because Zoe has her hands full discovering her magic and trying to figure out what type of witch she is. Plus, she has just met these guys again after not seeing them for seven years. But I think it's coming in future books. However, you can tell that the guys are all totally focused on her and they aren't at all interested in each other sexually. So if you're looking for MM, this book won't be for you.
I just loved the descriptions of magic and how it works. It was very well done. The author gets five stars from me for the world-building and the fact that there were no info dumps. I loved seeing Zoe discover her magic and struggle to control it. I loved how the guys helped her with this and how her magic sometimes gets the better of her because it is intuitive and driven by her emotions. The mix of humour, seriousness and intrigue/danger in the story was very well-balanced, and the development of Zoe's relationship with the guys also felt satisfactory -- not too fast and not too slow. Since she knew them when they were children, it seems natural that she'd be drawn to them and feel nostalgic about them. At the same time, she has to get to know them for who they are now, as adults, which is another reason why there hasn't been any sex yet. And since they know that she's their mate, it makes sense that they'd be protective.
There are some mysteries apart from the mystery of Zoe's past: why does Ryes have to bide his time to kill his father -- what are they waiting for? And why does Eirik continue to trust his father so much when it's clear that his father is power-hungry and has no integrity? Who is the person Zoe is accidentally telepathically connecting with? Why is Jasper (potentially another of Zoe's mates) so bitter about women and female witches? I'm looking forward to seeing how the situation develops with Jasper and who Zoe will fully bond with next.
I really enjoyed the snippet of this in the anthology, so i was excited to pick it up and read the full book! I really liked the concept and the characters.
Innocent and naive fmcs are not always my favorite, but Elzora was cute. I enjoyed reading about her and the changes to her world. There are a few times I wished she would stand up more, but i think we’re working up to that.
I really liked her initial 5 mates from childhood. I loved that there were no other women for them while they’d been apart, because so many authors choose to make the guys mess around even while knowing they have a mate. I loved these guys, I do wish we got a little bit more of their childhood and time away from her though. I also wish that we had gotten to have more time establishing these mates before adding new ones.
The new mates introduced we don’t totally know yet (except for Etrix), but seem solid.
The world building for their realm needed a little bit more, I think. I didn’t understand how it really worked, how different it was to actual Earth. The time frames confused me at times, so a bit more growth to that would’ve been great too.
I am interested in the revolution and what’s to come from that, and how everything will be handled moving forward.
This was a bit difficult to rate. I'm between 3-4 stars. I think the story is unique and loved that it's a slow burn RH. Not quite sure yet on what her final harem size will be, but her Hs so far, they have been amazing to Elzora. I think this series has the potential to be really solid if Elzora evolves not only into her powers, but as an individual as well.
Elzora’s life changes forever the day her grandma dies. With the return of her childhood friends, and finding out her life has been one big secret, Elzora can’t wrap her mind around everything.
This story is sweet, quirky, and just plan fantastic. I love the story and the characters. I can’t wait for book 2.
This books started out AMAZING, it was hard to putting it down, but after 50% it became slow and annoying.
First, Elzora? Probably one of the most annoying FMC after Nora Jacobs. She is on the list of what I call ' Useless and Clueless' the author had an amazing opportunity to make an strong character but she failed. She is way too dumb, she is so sweet that it honestly feels childish.
The harem? I feel like it lacks connection and dudes are so annoying.
I'm sad, because I thought I was going to love this book, but this was not the case. I gave it 3 starts but is more like 2.5
When i first started to read this i got deja vu that i already had read something similar, and i was right i read the few first chapters from this book in "princess and the alpha holes" i liked what i read there so i was excited to start it. Okay so we have the heroin Elzora aka Ellie that is very i guess introverted, shy and kind as fuck(like if someone hurt her and the ones that hurt her got hurt, she will help them. that´s how kind she is). I had very mixed feelings about everyone, the heroin was getting on my nerves sometimes at how forgiving she was, i mean i wanted her to be this kind soul but lashing back just a little. She kind of reminded me of Sang in the ghost bird series. Both very quite, smart thinking souls. I don´t get tho how she just accepted that they where back after 7 years??? When they had just disappeared from her in the past. Was it cuz of the grieve of her being completely alone?? I also where kind of irritated at the guys, i mean i loved the fact how possessiv and caring they where with her. But they where pointing out a lot in the beginning how she needed to toughen up, bruh she aint that weak bro. It´s hard to pick a favorite cuz that changes thru the book. So it was slow burn, i felt the story pace where not moving that fast. But you get instead more bonding within their group, getting to know everyones powers especially Elzora´s. I love that she is the most powerful of them all. I still don´t know enough about Jasper more than he is also an asshole like the rest of them, lol. Necos is an unknown still, i don´t really know where to put him, i guess i will see that in the next book. what i am really curious about is that man Valeo, who is he? what does he really want? And the thing is that he is mentioned as being a shadow man, Ciar was commanding him. Is that the same Valeo tho who is shadow walking or something Elzoras dreams and the one she is talking too in his head? Okay i feel like i missed something i might have to do a reread. Gimme the next book!!
DNF at 15% when the boys were showing the FMC Elzora around the magical academy.
I had apparently forgotten that I had already decided not to read this book after a sneak peek in the anthology The Princess & Her Alphaholes. I borrowed the book anyways to maybe try reading it a bit further and... nope, I still was unable to finish it.
I didn't like how the relationships with the boys were just assumed, and it was difficult keeping them straight when they were all brought in at once. I found most of the personalities pretty abrasive, and I didn't really even like Elzora as a character either. We were introduced to the magical world like Elzora was - in huge information dumps. This made for very boring reading, and between that and the characters, I didn't care enough to continue.
Loved this world the harem and the FMC. I literally laughed out loud reading some parts. FMC is everything to the harem.
“They’re sweethearts, even the ones that break necks.”
“Zohar’s hands are just as bloody as ours—well, Ciar, Mael and I fight for first place—but unlike the rest of us, he only kills when absolutely necessary. Boring fuck.”
“You told me my magicae made you feel safe and I want you to know, that it will always keep you safe. No matter what you need, whether that’s someone to complain to about the other idiots in your life, or someone killed for being mean, I want you to know I’m there for you. There’s no limits to what I’d do for you—you only ever need to ask.”
“We can’t all be nice. And I’m more than willing to be the one breaking necks if it means she doesn’t need to.”
Negative: No sex but there is sexual chemistry
I didn’t always connect with the writing style but this is one of my favorite RH books
I really liked this book, but I think 4.5 stars would have been better, it’s better than 4 stars so I rounded up. The only reasons I would have rated it 4.5, that she’s supremely naive. Small things she worries about, things that maybe a young teenager would be worried about. She’s very very emotional, and worries about saying things that could be taken wrong that would hurt someone. Granted most ppl would feel that way but it was in almost every page where she worried about someone taking it wrong. It got old after awhile. And 2, while it did grab my attention, it didn’t hold my attention completely. It was confusing on who was who when the guys were being introduced. I had to make notes of the guys and other important characters as I was reading. These are my notes so I know who is who when I read the next books.
Ryes - Air witch and hears people’s thoughts, described as psychotic. Short fuse, and had creative ways to kill ppl using his air. Empath.
Eirik. - crown prince, nicest out of all the guys but is also the most ruthless. Can also hear people’s thoughts because he is royal. A prince, but he’s not as strong as an empath as Reyes
Ciar- shadow (dark)witch, controls shadows and can make walks/screens of smoke to protect Ellie, he doesn’t see the good in himself, only the darkness Mael - Fire witch, liked to light his friends on fire “Fire witches are free beings. We’re playful and hot headed and yes slightly intense, but that’s okay because love our element”.
Zohar - water witch - affinity for healing
Etrix- older bastard brother or Eirik. He’s the bastard Prince. When Ellie’s parents the king and queen of Primordial world died, Eirik and Etrix and their dad all held the crown to see who would rule while Ellie matured magically which usually occurs at age 25, but the royals and strong witches usually matured years earlier. He acted out after the magic chose Eirik. Sleeping and black mailing weaker witches. Etrix is also a mate of Ellie’s. He’s also part of a secret hidden rebellion.
Queen Aria -step mother to Eirik Jasper- earth elemental witch who is very suspicious of her, since she could grow 200 plants as easily as drinking water. Titus - consort of the Queen - current leader of Maels branch of elemental magic. Mael thinks Titus as rigid, boring and an embarrassment.
Tien- Reyes twin sister, they never knew they had a twin as the mom took Tien to live with her while Reyes stayed with his dad. Their last year of high school, Reyes magic searched out and found Tiens. She’s also Ellie’s only girl friends. They instantly clicked. Necos was introduced at the end, he was a new professor hired by Mr Downy, her grandmothers lawyer and hinted at knowing what type of witch she really was, a soul witch. I loved how she got to reconnect with her men, and then meeting new ones. She saw each of them as they were, not only seeing past the hidden characteristics of most of them as Ciar was really the only one who let his freak flag fly. He let his darkness loose and she accepted him for it. The others, tried to hide their murderous intents but it all seemed to come out in the end and she accepted them easily. There’s a mysterious guy she seems to mind jump to when she falls asleep, he usually kicks her out of his head but at the end of the book, she notices that he has gold markings like she marked Mael with. It ends with her announcing he’s another soul witch and the mysterious guy hears her and tells her she made a mistake telling them all his secret even though she has no idea who he is. I can’t wait to read the next one.
So... I did like this... but it also really frustrated me at times. I'm so back and forth about the entire thing. Short version: I liked it and will read book 2 when it comes out.
Long version (may contain minor spoilers so I will hide it just in case):
Zoe/Ellie is lost. Her only family, her grandmother, just passed away. She's 20, but still feels like an orphan. But when grandmother passed, something else happened. Weird things. And then her childhood friends came back into her life with fantastical stories and are currently dragging her off to some mysterious academy to learn to control these weird things. Her anxiety meds are not rated for this nonsense.
Spoilers ahead. Ok so I waffled several times about putting this down. It constantly contradicts itself, the inner monologues come off as bad B villains with obsessive crushes, and Ellie/Zoe has a hard time speaking up for herself. Not things that usually bring me happiness in my reading material. Yet, once I got in far enough, other mysteries were dangled that kept me going. I don't think anyone is actually protected by hiding information and lying to them. Telling a small child that their parents hated them and abandoned them? Unnecessarily cruel. And the contradictions just kept piling up. *Don't leave her alone. They let her wander off. *Keep her secret? They have her continue to work with powerful witches who are very curious. It would have been better to call her a light witch and show her how to imitate that. *They constantly gush about her and say they will protect each other so it doesn't hurt her. And then the very next thought is them wanting to kill or maim their so called friends. *They profess to not prey on those weaker but none of them really shows that. Poor Blaze is constantly being attacked by Ciar who knows he's weak and can't fight back.
We don't see a lot of her classes. We don't see her practice a great deal. We don't see them together a whole lot, not as a whole group. And most of the interactions are fades so we know they're napping, eating, whatever, but we don't actually see them being together and bonding. She hasn't seen them for 7 years and doesn't ask them a lot of what happened in those years. She knows they're important people but doesn't ask about that, either. There's this entire new world she is going to be a part of and she barely asks anything. I enjoyed the wolf series, Death Is Easy. This one was ok. The intrigue is what kept me going more than the characters. The rotating POV helped some but doesn't give us a feel for everyone. And "stabby" isn't exactly a defining personality characteristic lol. I can't tell you what any of them look like except for Z's fro, either. The concept is interesting. And, I can handle the academy setting because it's more like college not high school. No teen angst, no mean girl drama, none of that. But if love to see this fleshed out more. Some world details, some character details, a better understanding of each witch's abilities and uses, the government she's learning about but we know nothing about, ... Etrix was entranced by a box of cereal. What's their food like? They hadn't had pizza in 7 years until they visited earth again. It's hints but barely tiny tastes of this world we're being introduced to.
Why did you read this book? It was a reverse harem (my favorite genre) with good ratings.
What format did you read this book in? Read it as an ebook on Kindle.
Is this an educational book or a book for entertainment? I read this book for pure entertainment purposes.
What genres do you think this book belongs to? Fantasy, Paranormal, Psychology, Romance
What was your favorite part in the book? My favorite part is when they are discussing pineapples on a pizza. I think pineapples are great on a pizza and I'm glad some of the characters agreed with me.
Who would you suggest this book to? Anyone who likes Academy reverse harems with a slow burn.
What is your general opinion/ rating of this book? I really wanted to like this book because I enjoyed the magic system and the world. However, the story seemed to flow too quickly and choppy at certain points. It was also hard to tell some of the love interests apart. I liked the fact that there are so many love interests, however I think the author tried to cram too much into one book. I would have liked a bit more of a romantic buildup between each one of the characters than what we got. I like that the main character Elzora deals with anxiety issues Because I am a sucker for characters that have flaws. There are some common tropes mixed in with this book but that is common in Academy romances. Overall, it's not a bad reverse harem romance but I don't think I will continue this series.
Are there any cliché scenes or concepts? Main character is born special because of her bloodline and has a unique ability no one else has. The main character is destined to be royalty. Each individual love interest represents one element. main character and love interest are brought together by magic as faded mate. Love interests are popular, powerful, and scary.
How intense are the intimacy scenes? There is some light foreplay, but that’s as far as it goes.
At what “burn” level is the romance? Slow burn.
Love interests, how many of them are there and what gender? There are eight love interests, all of their males, and witches. Mael- Fire witch Eirik- Prince and Elemental witch. Clar- Shadow witch. Zohar- Water witch. Ryes – Air witch. Etrix- Light witch. Jasper- Earth witch (and an A******. I hate him.) Necos- Time witch.

I think the thing I liked the most about Secret Witch was the cute chapter art. It was also a fun change reading a book with British spellings—even if seeing lawyer instead of solicitor or barrister threw me for a bit of a loop.
The harem got introduced fairly early on (at least most of it), and from the very moment Eirik and Meal kicked down Elzora's door, things never stopped being wildly chaotic and, at times, confusing. I mean, even the names were weird and impossible to know how to pronounce: Eirik, Zohar, Ciar, Mael, and Ryes (plus three others, whose names I didn't write down and don't remember).
The guys were all weirdly volatile and mercurial, and even after finishing the book I'm unsure whether that was done on purpose or not (I'm leaning towards 'not'). And since they all behaved the same and had virtually the same personality, it was very much a struggle to keep them apart. They were all so INTENSE all the time.
I also found it strange how completely unaware and unbothered Zoe was not only of their unusual behavior but also of how touchy-feely they all acted with her—particularly considering how, even if she'd spent a few childhood summers with these guys, she hadn't seen them in nearly a decade. Seven years had gone by since their last summer together and now, at 20, they were all hugging her and kissing her head and forehead like it was no big deal. It was weird as hell. At times I couldn't help but frame it as: "the ultimate people pleaser meets a bunch of guys with zero understanding of boundaries".
Even more than halfway through, things remained confusing and drastic. I quickly grew tired of everyone constantly dealing with emotions on the "extreme" side of the spectrum. The guys were always growling, snarling, barking, roaring, hissing, and I was left wondering why they couldn't just be chill for a minute. The sheer chaoticness turned this novel into a less-than-pleasing reading experience for me—even if the plot had some interesting elements. Constantly reading about characters experiencing the superlative equivalents of human emotions left me feeling drained and exhausted.
And I had very little solid ground to hang on to. There were so few physical descriptions, I still have practically no idea what any of the characters looked like. No mention of eye color, hair color, build, height, ethnicity, nothing. Plus, there was a noticeable amount of sentences where words were missing, and the editing/proofreading got decidedly sloppier towards the end of the book.
Secret Witch was too much of a frenzied jumble of baffling events. I don't think I'll be picking up future books in the series.
Letty Frame did me so so so wrong on that cliffhanger. Ugh.
She set me up so much and then left me hanging like super hanging and that's not very nice now is it?
This book was amazing. Once I was finally able to sit down and fully get situated, I was totally immersed in the book! In the world and in Elzora’s life. (I will refer to her as Sunflower from now on because this is my favorite nickname that he has in the book and was not called it enough!!)
Sunflower is basically unrooted from the life she knew into the realm of magicae and is thrown head first into it. She has grown up with mental health issues (due to SPOILER!!!! Cant tell you sorry hun you gotta read the book!) Her boys come and save her when in my mind she would have started drowning in sorrow.
Between learning magicae and everything else that was thrown at her and shifting through her relationships in the book Sunflower did amazingly well. Loved how Frame expertly used her health in conjunction with magicae to show her progress and stability.
We are introduced to a third pov aspect near the end of the book that helps set the end of the book up for the next one. (Love this character whoever it is, though I have an idea who it could be honestly based on what Frame has mentioned in the book.)
I think there was only one part that I truly wasn't happy with and that was Jasper and hers’ relationship. It wasnt really explored enough it was mentioned plenty of times in the book that he should be brought in but nothing was done. And then Sunflower was just no, its not happening. I’m not passing go with Jasper. Which made my heart drop a little for her and a lot for Jasper. She is making a decision not just for her but for him as well.
Then we get introduced to Necos at the end. I like Necos. :) I really like Necos. I dont really have an explanation why but I do.
Tl:Dr read this book, its fantastic and amazing, harem is protective and Sunflower/Elzora is badass.
I absolutely love that this author is writing about a chronic illness, in this case, anxiety. I also love that there is a content warning for this at the beginning of the book.
Elzora works at a daycare part-time, suffers from anxiety, and is getting ready to enroll in university. I love that the chronic illness is well and accurately described immediately. She is alone in the world now, with her last remaining tie passing away. She also goes by Zoe or Ellie, as her name is a bit of a mouthful.
She gets almost a supernatural revelation on the worst day of her life, but is it reality or a hallucination? She receives a blast from her past. Of course, they also caused her pain, but now they are here to take her away. Mael and Eirik come to rescue her. It seems they are arrogant, protective, and hiding something. Oh, that's part of what they hide: soulmates or fated mates. They have a different name for it, but it is essentially the same thing. Translation for this story's alternate words would be excellent.
Both Eirik and Mael have elemental powers and hint at others as well. Mael is a fire witch, Eirik is the prince, and Zohar is an elemental with water powers. Ryes is air and also a mind reader, and Ciar is dark magic. I think the author has covered all the bases. I don't yet know what Ellie's powers are. Off to the academy she goes; however, she knows nothing about magic, witches, or the harem of eligible fated mates she has.
Her bond with each of these guys is anything but a slow burn, even if she doesn't know why yet. The story may be about witches, but this is anything but paranormal, definitely fantasy with portals and unknown magic, and not really set on Earth. I do love the different povs, but the shifts are subtle enough to not interrupt the storyline.
All 5 of these guys are bug-scary powerful men, but with her, they are all cinnamon rolls. This story is slightly confusing with all the characters' seven different povs, and switching between them in one chapter is a long process.
So we discover her witch type, which fits the expected mold, instead of making her unique and ostracized. Despite this being a fantasy reverse harem, this story is very ya. A lot of introspective thoughts from her and her men, drama, and angst.
While the premise of this story is interesting, education could be better. Too many povs, main characters, and multiple-person conversations get jumbled into a Hodge podge of interactions that takes work to follow. I like the new girl trope, what her power is, and the reverse harem concepts, but starting with five powerful guys and increasing it is very weird. They have a soulmate bond, but the story is ya. I won't be reading this series any further.
First book of the series. I have mixed feelings about the book and it is difficult to rate. Too many guys. They have uncommon names so it is difficult to keep them straight. Then on/off their names are shortened. Then at the end of the book Eirik is now Rik which he wasn’t called once during the book. There are too many ways they say her name, it is shortened in different ways and then some of them have nicknames for her. Too many and not enough individual relationship building. No spice. Kisses on the cheek. Not much more. Some of the story transitions do not flow well. I thought something was wrong with my kindle when I felt like I was rereading something I just read and I had to flip back and forth because I was confused. However it was the same info just retold from a different character. I can’t grasp the FmC she tries to be strong but is also weak and innocent. She cries- a lot. I don’t like how they are ~20 yet not adults/mature and she still has a guardian. Why did they have to remain apart for seven years? I get when they were children and their parents kept them apart but again they are 20 now so why in the last two years did they not find her? And why was she not questioning their separation more or angry about it or having a full conversation about it? Then whenever all the guys wanna talk, they knock her out because she’s overwhelmed and needs to sleep or used her magic. A lot of half truths and secret keeping. All of these guys tied to her in a “soul connection” which starts their bonding. Only one guy moves beyond that part of bonding when their magic bonds. But no one is fully “bonded”. Very slow relationship building. Too slow for so many guys.

It's been a good while since a book so helplessly captivated me. And I'll be honest the blurb for this book didn't sound all that intriguing to be but I figured why not and gave it a shot. Boy am I glad I did.
I wasn't sure how exactly this was going to play out and I was a little worried it would be like all the other witch books I've read. However, this is certainly not the case for this new series. Right from the start I was pulled in by a girl named Elzora (which is an awesome name) and her whole POV is just exciting to read. She's kind and sweet but has this inner fire and backbone that no one really sees as of yet. Then we get to her men....... and god can i just say how much I love how stabby and a little psychotic they are. We get different POVs from them as well and its some of the best I've read when it comes to men. I really enjoyed just how different her men seem to be and just how all of their different personalities shine through. I wholeheartedly enjoyed this new start to the series and by god I DESPERATELY NEED book 2 already.
If you love paranormal books I suggest giving this one a try. The whole context of the series is new and interesting and if I'm being honest I really couldn't tell you why I love this new series soo much but I found myself trying to read as slow as possible so I didn't finish it too fast lol. I'll be following the author so that I can keep track of when book 2 comes out!
Secret Witch is a slow burn PNR academy book featuring witches. Zoe is twenty when her grandma dies and her world spins out of control. Enter five men who she knew as children that she hasn’t seen in seven years. Eirik, Mael, Zohar, Ciar, and Ryes tell her that she’s a witch, and though they don’t tell right away, their soulmate. Zoe doesn’t believe them as she’s had mental issues over the years, and she thinks it’s just a hallucination. It seems less like one when they take her to Whisperfelt Institution of Magicae in Mitagua, a different realm. As she tries to adjust to her new reality and to discover what type of which she is, she finds out that much of what she’s been told is a lie. And with each answer comes more questions… and more men.
The worldbuilding in this book is amazing, though at times it does slow down the book as we learn the information. The male characters are very intriguing and most of them are quite a bit psychotic—just the way I like them. Zoe is very meek and unsure, but you can already see her progression as a character. I can’t wait to see just how she ends up by the end of the series. There is a huge mystery surrounding Zoe’s affinity, as well as her past. And let me tell you, the cliffhanger at the end? Yeah, be ready for it because I have no idea what’s going on, but I need to know.
WARNING! Soft cliffhanger (about a 2/5 level) in which we are left with a non-specific threat, and no-one is in immediate danger. Elzora never knew she was a witch, her anxiety disorder kept her from making friends, and she never knew her parents. It’s only on the death of her grandmother that the truth is revealed. Taken to a magical school by the friends she hasn’t seen since she was twelve, she is introduced to a world filled with magic, and facing a danger she never even realized was out there.
This is a reverse harem with a big harem, though there are no sex scenes in this book, just a couple of make-out sessions, there are seven mates acknowledged by the end of the book. That being said, the story is an interesting one, with secret magic, devious plans, plots and intrigues throughout. Zoe is hampered for much of the book with the worries and insecurities that she gained through her anxiety disorder. Her mates have their own problems, and despite those, she accepts them for who they are (and vice versa). It makes for an engaging read, with an interesting cast of characters. This book is ideal if you enjoy paranormal/fantasy RH, but prefer it to be on the plot heavy side.
There is no way of softening the fact that this book needs a grammar overhaul. “I wish he had of came to us” being the most recent eye roll. I’m 42% of the way in and it’s impacting my enjoyment of the story. Speaking of story, this one is meandering down a path I generally like. However, it’s taking overly long. Much like on our walks when my dog needs to stop and break out the CSI team for every smell. I enjoy the overall experience, but the details are frustrating. The fmc is a Marysue of the highest order. She has anxiety, which is why I tried the book. But, the focus is so on the guys that she’s lost. And she doesn’t have a strong voice to begin with. Obviously the real point of the story is to detail the amazingness of her harem. The harem… very one note. The author tries to make them distinct, but they are all overprotective, strong, most-supportive-in-the-world guys. And we only care about how amazing they are relative to the fmc, so they blend together. I’m on the fence about continuing, which means I won’t. There just isn’t enough here and it’s presented so poorly that I could better spend my time elsewhere.
This story was absolutely fantastic! Letty Frame completely blew my mind with this original, action-packed storyline and phenomenal characters that I fell instantly in love with!
I love the unique take Letty took on witches and the various branches, I have never read anything like it. Being immersed into the world, along with Elzora, was absolutely fascinating! Learning about each type of witch, the powers they harness and seeing it all come to life was thrilling. Letty Frame was so beautifully descriptive that it’s like I was right there with Elzora learning and navigating a brand new world.
I’m absolutely obsessed with Elzora and her bonded! I love how unique each of her men are and how they each bring something special and uniquely themselves to Elzora’s life. They each provide a level of comfort and safety and Zo has never known and it’s enchanting to watch each of the bonds grow and flourish.
I am so excited to see where this story goes! That ending line though…hook line and sinker! I will be waiting here, with baited breath, for the next installment.
3.75 Ok future self ... I know you only reread four star books, but I'm here to remind you that you liked this book. I couldn't give it four stars because the slow pacing was really frustrating at times especially in the middle of the book, and because of all the dumb names like anime nexum aka soul mate, and finally because the cover image is super ... I don't even know ... But the girls boobs should be a lot higher if it's meant to be flattering. (No offense to anyone with saggy boobs out there, but hopefully if you're 20 they're not down to your waist just yet)
This book is about a girl named Zoe who finds out she's a witch and is taken to a magic school by her four soul mates. Her magic then attaches to four additional men who are meant to help her take over the world and reclaim her rightful thrown from the evil greedy king. **She shares a secret at the end of the book and her eighth soul mate is not happy (she doesn't know who he is, but she knows he's a soul witch like herself.)

There is so much to love in The Secret Witch!! Elzora believes herself to be a normal, boring and anxiety ridden human with aspirations to be a teacher in the future. Her grandmother passes away unlocking a legacy she never knew existed and quite literally changes her entire world. I liked that Ellie stuggles with anxiety and panic attacks because I felt like it made her more relatable as a character. That being said, I am hopeful that she will find her strength in the future books because she is absolutely overwhelmed right now and she's got big shoes she needs to fill and a blow out fight she'll have to fight in order to do so. Her men I loved pretty much instantly. I mean, what's not to love about possessive alphaholes that will do anything and everything to make you happy and their sole purpose is to protect and love you? That sounds like a win to me! I'm super curious about this mystery stranger and I'm excited to see where we go in book 2 after that cliffy!
I love Elzora’s quiet snark, and I want to give her a hug too. She had so much thrown at her. Her grandmother dies, her world is upended when she realizes she’s not actually human. She’s a witch. Imagine learning that everyone that you thought you ever loved had left you, and not knowing why.
Elzora’s old friends crash the funeral, and later her house, and explain that she can’t keep her head in the sand. She thinks she’s going crazy, after years of psychiatrists that should have had their licenses yanked told her so. Everyone in her life has continued this lie that she can’t handle life and she is two seconds away from losing touch with reality. Add in a new reality that’s actually true ? Poor girl.
Her men are at a loss on how to protect her, and her magicae has a mind of her own. I loved this book and I can’t wait to read more.
There were moments that were irritating and felt all over the place. But I still kinda loved that in a weird way. It felt like the author wanted us to have the information but also wanted us to twirl a bit before we got it and wanted us to there to be mystery as well. Like I said it was a little in your face but backwards to see it. Lol. I personally liked it. Also I loved that the men weren't typical bad boys. They're not heroes in a sense but towards her, she's they're everything and I adore that! The crazy and possessive ways they look to her. 😍 All the feels. Yas! Then there's her. The FMC. She's strong, but not in a typical in your face way and yet she's still handling business even when others and herself doubt her. Then there's all that was revealed and the ending and you got yourself someone who is hooked to see what happens next. Well done.🤗😍
Love the plot and story line of this series so far but each of the characters have poor character development and with how they act with each other. The plot/story line was interesting enough that even with how annoying and frustrating the characters are in this book was, I could continue to finish the whole book and definitely going to continue onto the second book. if you aren't fond of bad character development and be frustrated/annoyed with most characters in a book than maybe this is not a series you want to start. if you can get passed that then this is a great series to read in my opinion. if you don't like slow burns little to none spicy scenes than this is definitely not for you. I rated this a three star because it was an alright book with a good plot but it could have been better and I may or may not read it again. There were a bunch of good and cute moments that made it reading it worth it throughout this book and hopefully more in the second one.
