Graz is an inventor, utterly obsessed with magic and its hidden history. While following clues toward the source, he meets a human woman investigating the very same ancient ruin—unleashing a rivalry between them to get to the next clue first.
As a member of the King’s History Corps, it’s Vienne’s job to reveal what she learns to her boss, but now that she’s seen the power of magic for herself, she wonders whether it’s safe to spill its secrets before she can uncover the truth.
Soon, Graz and Vienne both begin to experience a magical sickness. But when a taboo spark erupts between them, magic will either save them—or doom them.
Lyonne Riley writes super steamy monster romance, fantasy romance, and sci-fi romance. She lives in the middle of nowhere with her spouse and two dogs, writing spicy fairy tales.
Really weird and distasteful for people to review bomb a book that hasn’t been released, and that they haven’t read.
I *have* read this book as a beta reader and absolutely had a blast with it. Perfect pacing, all the raunchy fun and adventure Lyonne is known for, plus the steam and heart that keeps me coming back for more. I’m so sad about this series ending, but what a fantastic series it has been!
This is one of my absolute favorite series, and I flew through this book! I was so excited to see that Graz was getting his own story, and the adventure in this was so much fun. The lore we’re learning about it so interesting too!
Vienne is so much fun! She’s such a strong and independent FMC, and I loved that she was willing to do whatever was needed if she thought it was the right thing to do. Her and Graz together were so perfect.
This series just makes me happy. I love all of these couples so much.

Thank you so much to Lyonne Riley for sending me an arc for an honest review. 💖
Another great (and maybe final?) addition to the Trollkin Lovers series!
Winning the Orc’s Heart features Graz, an inventor, competing against Vienne, an explorer, to find sites noted to be containing secret magic! Imagine their surprise when they find out they’re actually mates!
I loved the action in this one. It felt like Indiana Jones with all the chases and running scenes, as well as all the archaeological type findings. From the cave paintings to the trippy visions from the past bestowed upon the couple, there was no shortage of wonder and fantasy in this book. I loved it!
BUT! What made it better than Indiana Jones was the fact that it was spicy! We’re not talking busty Kate Capshaw screaming her head off as Indiana saves the day, we’re talking fated mates stuck in a cave with an endless supply of magic to make things even more…comfortable. I loved the use of the magic to help with making their stay more comfortable (*cough, cough* summoning a bed or a hot tub), but we also got all the breeding kink and dirty talk I love from this series!
I loved how much the magic played a part in this book in the series outside the spicy times. I feel like all the other books were adding bits and pieces to our magic knowledge in this world, but this one blew the door off! I loved the history of the magic and how the door has been left open for more books in the future should Lyonne wish to bless us. I also loved how Vienne and Graz ultimately chose to use the magic.
As always, I loved seeing some of the folks from earlier books in the series come around again. I’m really loving the community they are making with their mates and offspring!
Thank you to Lyonne Riley for the opportunity to read this book. The thoughts and opinions expressed above are honest and my own.
I’m always excited to read one of Lyonne’s books. So far, there hasn’t been one I didn’t enjoy. I particularly enjoyed the adventure in this book. Both Vienne and Graz are curious explorers that discover magic together in more ways than one.

“What's the chance that we would both arrive here at the same time, in this ancient ruin deep in the swamp? It's unfathomable that we'd happen to discover it at the same moment, and yet, here we are.”
“His brows are creased, as if he's thinking and feeling the same thing I am-that we're not just doing what we need to do. No, something of his is winding up with something of mine, unfurling between us with dew-tipped petals.”
Thank you again so much to Lyonne Riley for sending me a copy of the latest book in the Trollkin Lovers series! This is one of my favorite series because each book is so unique and special just like the couples in them. Each one has a unique story and challenges and handles them differently! This book is no different! We have Graz, who we have seen before in Charming the Troll’s Heart, and Vienne who are both trying to uncover more about the magic in this world and the mysterious ruins that have we have seen before. This honestly gave me The Mummy vibes because of the banter and seeing them in ruins. It was just so amazing! It was also really good to see some of couples from previous books! It’s like checking in with old friends!
This was another fantastic addition to the series! I highly recommend you check this out when it releases on February 28th!
I'm so excited Graz got his own book and Vienne was perfect for him! This was packed full of adventure, past couples. and your favorite magical worms. Think Indiana Jones but with your trollkin lore and history. Such a fun wild ride with sweet and HOT moments. Such a lovely series. I can't wait for the next one!
This was a very enjoyable read with tons of adventure, heat, suspense, and intrigue! Thank you Lyonne Riley for providing an ARC for my honest opinions on this lovely book!
Thus is Graz and Vienne’s story. We met Graz in Lo'zar's story he is a scholar and inventor. He did not understand how his best friend could fall in love with a human female. That is until he met his own 😘. Vienne belongs to the King's History corps. She's kind of like Indiana Jones but female. A lover of history that needs to solve the mystery and find the answers to the past especially no w to the one she's finding out that humans share with Trollkin. At first Graz and Vienne are at odds or maybe I should say they are in competition to see who can find the ancient ruins first. But that competition soon becomes a partnership one forged with a desire to uncover ancient secrets of the past.. As they work together they realise their partnership is more than just history their feeling for one another are growing with every minute spent together. A discovery of magic ancient secrets, misunderstandings and others working against them become major obstacles! Can these two find a safe place to love and be accepted as a couple or are they doomed to be parted forever? You need to read and find out. Love this series and I hope there will be more in the future because I for one can't wait to read it💖🔥🌟💖🌟🔥🌟💖🔥🌟💖🔥🌟💖🔥💖🌟🔥🌟💖🔥🌟💖🔥🌟💖🔥🌟💖🔥🌟🔥🌟💖🌟
If Lara Croft, Indiana Jones & Doc from Back to the future had a monster/human book baby this would be it!!
The FMC, Vienne (human), is a badass, kick butt babe archaeologist, who knows what she wants and will stop at nothing to get it. The MMC, Graz (orc), is an inventor who definitely gives off neurospicy vibes in his single minded quest for a the origins of magic. When fate throws him a curve ball in the form of a feisty curvy human, his world is turned upside down and his logical side is truly tested.
My nerdy little heart really enjoyed the archaeology/history quest theme of this book. Lyonne brings the characters to life but also gives readers some artistic license by giving just enough world building without making the story too wordy, which I love.
I would rate this book 3 peppers for spice, but when there is a spicy scene its chefs kiss spicy!
A must read for monster lovers and a fantastic read those who want to dip their toes into the magic of the monsterverse.
Oh my goodness I love Graz so much! As soon as we met him earlier in the series I was hoping he would get his own book. He went off in search of answers and magic and got a human mate. 😆
Loved all the adventure, magic, lore, and of course the hilarious meet cute between Vienne and Graz! Even without being able to communicate they both understood the thirst for knowledge.
I do feel like the whole plot of the human and trollkin history and magic was left unanswered somewhat. Like it was rushed a bit towards the end. There was such a build up throughout the whole series. But I still loved learning all that we did about it!
This book is full of sweet moments, spicy adventures, and mystery! And loved seeing cameos from some of my favorite couples in the series!
This was a super fun, adventurous, Indiana Jones style story that was action packed from the jump. I loved all the mystery, exploration and magic in this. I was hooked the entire time!! Also the spice was spicing, which absolutely helps. This might be my favorite Trollkin book yet ✌🏼
Speaking of favorites, Graz might be my new favorite MMCs; he’s a little grumpy but also curious, romantic and somewhat whimsical. He’s a clever inventor with equal amounts of skepticism and optimism which makes him both interesting and relatable. The FMC, Vienne, is a tough, no BS historian/archeologist who gives strong The Mummy 2 Evie vibes.
Vienne and Graz story is full of adventures and magic and it's the perfect cozy book to get lost in! I loved them together so much, both have the common interest of finding out more about the magic but knowing that it would be dangerous in the wrong hands. I feel like I was so invested in finding out the story behind the magic and what it can really do that before i knew it I was at the end. I loved these Trollkin books and I loved seeing the previous characters in this too!
Loved Graz and Vienne’s story! I like to keep my reviews short and sweet. If you’re like me, you’re not going to read through 10 paragraphs of a book review 😅. This was definitely giving me Indiana jones and The mummy vibes. Graz is an inventor wanting to learn more about magic and Vienne is like a. Archeologist who works for the Kings History Corps. They stumble across each other at an ancient site. They have to go their separate ways, but eventually work together! In this book you’ll get, action, adventure, romance and spice 🌶️. For inquiring minds, the spice can be found in chapters 8, 10,12,20,21,24,25 😉
Amazing, brilliant, perfect!!! Omg I loved this so much! Thank you Lyonne for letting me read the ARC it was amazing! Graz is an inventor obsessed with learning more about magic. Vienne is part of the King’s History Corps. They both end up meeting while investigating the same ruin.
Graz is adorable I love that unlike the others he’s not a fighter and just a bookworm, also he is literally a master of dirty talk. I’m in love. This was such a good book to finish the series (even though I could definitely read a million more).
Another lovely instalment in the Trollkin series. Graze and Vienne are one of my favourite couples. The war between humans and trollkin is over, and it's interesting to see them navigate the world after the great war. Vienne is an intelligent woman and very pragmatic. I thought it was nice to see her come up with solutions as a Trollkin universe Lara Croft. The strength of this series is definitely the expanding lore. While every novella can be read as a standalone, I find it neat that we learn something about the shared history between humans and trollkin.
I enjoyed the story, it was very Indiana Jones-y and fun! The very adventure focused installment of the series maybe had the relationship between our main characters a little less developed than in some of the other Trollkin Lovers books, but there were still quite a few sweet moments (smutty ones too ofc!). I was curious about Graz when we've met him in Charming the Troll's Heart. He was different than the other orcs we have seen in the series, a tall and muscly orc that wasn't a warrior of any kind, but an inventor. He was very inquisitive and wanted to learn all the secrets of magic, looking all over the continent for ancient ruins that were marked on a map that he wasn't supposed to got his hands on. A chance meeting with Vienne, a member of History Corps exploring one of the ruins surprisingly changed his whole life ;) Vienne was a huge history nerd, she wasn't in the Corps because she wanted the honors of bringing the human king treasures, she only wanted the knowledge that came from the work. She was brave, boldly going into unexplored ruins even without a team. I liked her, but she was a bit too self righteous with her It was good to see more about the history of interspecies relations, but sadly it didn't feel like we learned everything. There are still many questions left, where these ancient people went? why there weren't any mixed species enclaves left on the continent? what about Riggamora? I hope this book it really the last installment of the series just "for now", because there could be so much more fascinating stories told in this world, there are many secrets to uncover still ;) I loved seeing some of the couples from the earlier books!
4.5 stars. Graz, the male orc lead, has always been intrigued by magic. Vienne, the female human lead, is interested in adventure, history, and archaeology. When they meet at a magical ruin, together they’re able to access a hidden section of the building. But when Vienne’s colleagues enter, they quickly close it back up and Graz escapes before they find him - Vienne is sure that her party leader cannot be trusted with magic, nor can either ruler of their peoples.
When they next meet at another archaeological relic, this time without company, they again find a section only accessible with both a human and a trollkin. Drawn to each other and led by a vision, they engage in physical intimacy. But Graz furiously abandons Vienne when he realises that she has killed the magic in that location to keep it away from untrustworthy others.
Their activities have not been covert enough. Vienne’s boss/ex-lover and Graz’s crimelord boss separately force each of them to another location. This time they’re going to have to find another solution…
This story is dual POV, well written, and a fast paced, action focused, fantasy, orc/human romance. I enjoyed the depth of Graz’s feelings for Vienne, as well as his intellectual cluelessness when contrasted with Vienne’s pragmatic determination to keep the world safe from magical exploitation. I enjoyed Vienne’s resilience and perseverance, especially when she thought Graz had abandoned her. I enjoyed the contrast of Vienne’s adventure experience and enjoyment of travel compared to Graz’s grudging willingness to travel to indulge his intellectual curiosities. I enjoyed their intimacy, and the way it continued the plot as well as contributing to the relationship development. I enjoyed the resolution, and the cameos from characters earlier in the series. The author’s note suggests this may be the last in the series and the ending leaves a very settled feeling with this reader.
I received a complimentary copy from the author and this is my voluntary honest review.
This one felt like a spiritual sibling to Charming the Troll’s Heart—which makes sense since Graz and the previous MMC are besties. The parallels are clear, but at times maybe too clear. It left me wanting something fresher, though I did really enjoy the emotional journey Graz goes on.
The highlight for me? Graz learning to see why his friend chose a human mate—wrestling with the idea of love, loyalty, and cultural difference. There was something really real about it. Yes, we’ve got another fated mates / instalove dynamic, but this time it didn’t feel like boom, soulbond, love forever without resistance. Their bodies say yes over and over again (🔥), but their minds and hearts take longer to catch up—and that tension made it one of the most realistic mate scenarios I’ve seen in a while. Still not my preference—I tend to like when the body and heart fall in sync—but I appreciated the slower emotional evolution.
The plot gave a lot of payoff! We finally get answers to long-running questions in the series, especially around magic, history, and the broader fate of this world. That magical sickness thread? So good. I loved how it wove together mystery, urgency, and romantic stakes. And the cameos! Seeing all the other pairings and how they’re thriving? A delight. Like catching up with old friends.
My only real wish? More bonding time between Graz and Vienne. I wanted to see them fall, not just feel the effects of fate. Their banter and rivalry were great, but it sometimes got overshadowed by the urgency of the plot. I was left wanting a little more emotional depth before we hit those big romantic beats.
TL;DR An enjoyable and satisfying installment that wraps up a lot of threads, but it doesn’t quite feel like the end of the series to me. (Please, Lyonne, don’t let this be the end!) I still have questions, and I’m invested enough in this world that I hope we get even more stories down the line.
Gleeful Goblin Review: As someone who grew up on movies like the Indiana Jones franchise and for whom the all of the main cast of The Mummy made me Feel Things, I LOVED THIS BOOK. I'm not surprised because I have loved this whole series, but this book was especially fun and cheeky for me because I feel like it benefits from influence of both the franchises I named. Like, tell me this doesn't scream Indiana Jones: "The passageway is pitch black inside, but my lamp guides the way, revealing cobwebs in every corner and tiny creatures fleeing wherever the firelight touches them. I even spot a snake that slithers off into a hole in the stone the moment I go past. I shudder. I very much do not like snakes. Lizards? Fine. Izzy is still back at my mechanic’s shop, and I hope Kugara is feeding him. I thought about bringing my iguana along, but managing a finicky horse and a territorial lizard at the same time felt like too much work. Snakes, on the other hand... The last thing I need is a venomous bite while I’m out in the middle of nowhere all alone." The way that Graz is so curious and takes joy in exploration while researching magic also gave me big time Milo from Atlantis: The Lost Empire feels which I found so endearing. Vienne is absolutely fantastic, she's smart, tenacious, and goes after what she wants with single minded determination; whether that's ancient knowledge and magic or a big, green....sweetie.
The author weaves a super fun and engaging story full of adventure, magic, and SO MUCH STEAMY FUN. Strap on your goggles and prepare for hijinks when you read this delightful story. 5/5 Stars
Two nerds—an orc inventor and a human historian—set off on separate journeys to uncover the secrets of the past, only to find themselves forced to work together despite the deep-seated mistrust between their people. Of course, their collaboration is purely for science. Definitely. It has absolutely nothing to do with the undeniable mate bond forming between them. Nope, just research. As a history-loving nerd with an engineer for a partner, stories like this always quickly find a way into my heart. I loved how both main characters’ thirst for knowledge and understanding of their world clashed with their growing feelings, making for an entertaining push-and-pull dynamic. The twists and turns kept things engaging, and the world-building continued to expand the Trollkin universe without requiring readers to have read every previous book in the series. It works well as a standalone too! I’m a sucker for the “we have to get together for science” trope, and this story delivered—especially paired with the “just a one-time thing” turning into an all-consuming connection trope. The spice had just the right amount of heat while still being sweet. Who doesn’t love a nerdy, gentle giant taking care of his feisty, equally nerdy love interest? Plus, the adventure had just the right touch of Indiana Jones-esque danger, making the character development and cultural tensions all the more compelling. A fun, romantic read!
This book is a little bit of "National Treasure" mixed with "The Mummy" with "Romancing the Stone" vibes, but with orcs, magic, and even spicier romance...
I don't want to spoil too much of the book and ruin your eventual enjoyment, but this story was a romantic adventure tale that is best read after first reading book 4 of the Trollkin Lovers series, "Charming the Troll's Heart." You should define read the entire Troolkin Lovers series as some of our favorites make a brief appearance towards the end; however, this book is wonderful enough to stand on its own. This is a rivals to colleagues to lovers story. The MMC Graz is an orc inventor who is on a quest to find the source of magic while the FMC Vienne is human archeologist/reluctant treasure-hunter who is watching for ruins with the King's History Corps. Their meetings appear to be predestined with each needing the other's help to locate magic - the treasure that at both their sponsors are eager to covet once they find out about it. The additions of Vienne's archivist mother as a character and the reappearance of pseudo-Mafia benefactor Guzak added depth to the story. Even though those 2 never met in the book, I feel like they would make a good match, and their story would be a comical adventure of opposites butting beads while falling for each other. As for Raiden, I wasn't impressed by his antics - he was a 1 dimensional character that never felt like a bona fide threat. That being said, the author did an exact job writing the book, and I hope the series continues as this book doesn't read like a finale, but rather a penultimate tale that is satisfying yet makes.one eager for more.

Graz is basically the magic-obsessed Indiana Jones Orc of our dreams, and Vienne? She’s the smart, mysterious woman with her own secrets—except this time, they’re racing to uncover a hidden magical history, and let’s just say, sparks fly (literally and figuratively). 🔥
The way the magic weaves into the story is so captivating, it’s like each chapter brings a new trippy vision or crazy discovery. I was totally vibing with the whole Indiana Jones + ancient ruins thing, with a mix of heart-stopping chases and hilarious moments between Graz and Vienne. They might not have the easiest time communicating, but you can feel the shared passion for magic. The plot's a total rollercoaster of sweet moments, a bit of mystery, and, of course, that forbidden chemistry. I loved seeing a few cameos from other faves in the series, too!
This is the perfect book if you're craving something full of adventure, a dash of danger, and that slow-burn tension between two characters who get each other in the best way. Seriously, I didn’t want it to end. Highly recommend for when you need to get lost in a world of magic, secrets, and the best kind of chaos.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Winning the Orc's Heart is about an orc and human that end up discovering the hidden truths of the past, while exploring the connection between each other. This is a tale of magic, adventure and spice.
I liked Vienne as the fmc. I thought she was a cool heroine that was curious and adventurous. I liked that Graz was just as curious as Vienne. And that he had a iguana. The romance between Graz and Vienne was spicy one.
Winning the Orc's Heart was a fun read. It had Indiana Jones vibes. But I did struggle with the actions of Graz and Vienne when it came to the second ruin. I understood why they did what they, but I wasn't pleased.
This was an ARC read and review. I'm grateful to the author for giving me the opportunity to read this book.
The first book in this series was the first book I bought in my Kindle ❤️
Graz's obsessed with magic and set out on an adventure to find the source. However, he bumped into Vienne, and together they unearthed a history revolving trollkins and humans.
Such a bittersweet ride.
I love the Raiders of the Lost Ark / Lara Croft vibes this book offered. I was curious with the history between trollkins and humans too ever since it was introduced to us. We got a little bit of hints here and there, but with this book, it was explained to us. FINALLY!
Graz's a side character in the other book, and I am glad to see him with his own mate in Vienne. She's feisty and brave too, which I love. However, I didn't really connect with either of them so I was just reading for the plot about magic.
One thing, Graz did something that really turned me off from him and ever since that, I was indifferent with him. Both main characters made a series of bad decisions regarding the magic imo, but it all worked out in the end.
Added a star because I am sentimental with this series, and hello, we got some cameos from the other couples.
Overall, a great conclusion to series. Might reread my faves, who knows.
I had been eyeing Lyonne Riley's work for some time now, and I was lucky enough to get the opportunity to read Winning the Orc's Heart. This was my first time reading anything by Riley, and I think it was the perfect introduction to the Trollkin series (which I WILL be reading the entirety of).
Riley is skillful and intentional with the way she describes the heartfelt and gut-wrenching moments in her writing, and it makes for a strong attachment to the story and characters early on. Graz and Vienne are both likeable, relatable, and redeemable in their flaws. They're well-fleshed out characters, and their story feels complete.
The story is well-balanced with equal parts suspense and drama, and spice. There's a good amount of explained lore that is helpful for someone jumping into the series backwards like I did. I don't feel like anything really went over my head, and I left feeling intrigued about the other 6 stories available in the series.
If you're looking for an adventurous monster romance novella, you should definitely add the Trollkin series (especially Winning the Orc's Heart) to your TBR.
I binged the entire Trollkin Lovers series and then had to wait FOUR WHOLE MONTHS for "Winning the Orc's Heart" to come out, so I was hyped for this one! Tonally, the books in the series shift between pretty grim and angsty to fun and rollicking, with this one on the latter end of the spectrum—closer to the serial adventure of "Charming the Troll's Heart." However, I didn't feel like the characters were as emotionally developed or nuanced, and a lot of the adventure was just trekking between cities and archeological sites. If this were simply another entry in the series, that wouldn't bother me. But when I got to the author's note that this is the conclusion ("for now"), I felt pretty let down—especially with the tantalizing story thread that was left unresolved and an uncharacteristic aboutface in one character's behavior that totally felt like a setup for a book of his own. But "Winning the Orc's Heart" still rates four stars from me because Riley is so dang good at writing love scenes that are spicy without being cringey.
Winning the Orc's Heart by Lyonne Riley is Book 7 in her Trollkin Series. I was so looking forward to her next book & it did not disappoint! 🥰 It is a high adventure, §tẹämƴ romance with some danger & mystery added in. Lyonne masterfully continues to world-build & in layers to her Trollkin World and we see snippets of other couples from the Series. Graz is a genuis inventor orc with a passion for ancient history & magic. Vienne is a human that works for the King's History Corps, exploring ancient history. Their not-so-meet-cute is in an ancient ruin where they start to discover their combined history and what the purple magic means. Graz & Vienne are both snarky, have different agendas in the beginning and will do anything to discover answers. 😏
...aaaaannnnddd by *anything* - I mean very §pïcƴ §ëxƴ times!! The conversation between Graz & Vienne discussing if they should - it's hilarious.
I really enjoyed this book, Lyonne states this is the end...for now. I hope she continues more stories in her Trollkin World! 💚💜💙
Honest ARC Review: This story really had my heart and stomach in knots. I was so invested in the story and characters of this book. Graz is an inventor who has discovered magic. His curiosity and obsession lead him on a journey to find out answers. He wants to find more magic and learn what kind of things he can create with it. While stumbling into a hidden place rich with history he bumps into a human woman. Vienne works for the king and along with the others in her team search out hidden ruins of the past. She loves going on adventures and thirsts for knowledge of times past. The last thing she expects at her recent job is to run into an Orc. While the encounter between Graz and Vienne is short and not entirely friendly they both end up thinking of each other well after they go their own separate ways. When they both see each other again they start to learn a lot of different truths about their kind. As they discover more about humans and Orcs they find themselves drawn to each other. This story was emotional, angsty, and had me captivated. This story is a rocky one and it takes a bit for things to finally smooth out and end well. I thought this book wrapped up the series really well. Check out this story if you enjoy monster romance with lots of history, fated mates, magic discovery, an Orc inventor, a human history nerd, an epic adventure, accidental pregnancy, size difference, and a very sweet ending.
This had such a fun adventure, Indiana jones vibe to it! And I would say this book gave us the most insight into the history between trollkin and humans which I loved. Lyonne Riley really set the rest of the series up for some amazing things. I was so intrigued and invested in all the history and ruins that Graz and Vienne explored. That was 100% my favorite part. The way the spice always intertwined with the ruins and magic really was wonderful. I can’t wait to see what happens, what we learned was sooooo cool!
The spice was amazing, who knew the grumpy bookworm would have such a dirty mouth? Seeing the other side of Graz during their spice scenes really did it for me, I loved seeing their dynamics switch. I’m not a big fan of accidental pregnancy but I think that trope was very well done in this book. Enough so that it didn’t take me out of the story or make me mad. They definitely had more angst than other couples but it didn’t go on for so long that it made the story drag on. Overall I really liked it and it set up for some great plot points in the rest of the series!
