Alpha's Magic

Rate this book
Leo, a young omega prince, heir to the throne of the Sudfarma, was given a terrible curse as a child. Now Grimora, the only father he has ever known has died, leaving him all alone, but he has bequeathed him a magic amulet that will allow him to temporarily escape the curse.

When the handsome Alpha, Lord Asher, arrives with his friend Lord Lexington, he discovers the boy living alone in his cave by the sea and takes him to Morovia to King Harrison for questioning about recent attacks on a nearby village. Along the way, they develop a fierce and powerful attraction to each other, but other dark and deadly forces are moving against them, and they find themselves under almost constant attack.

Warlocks, evil curses, murder and mayhem swirl around them, and even old friends and former allies could turn out to be new enemies. Asher takes Leo back to the manor home where the curse was first laid to discover the shocking truth, and they once again find themselves fighting for their lives while navigating old betrayals and revenge put in motion before they were even born. Leo learns that true love can’t be made to happen, nor can it be stopped when it’s already taken hold.

Alpha's Magic is an omegaverse, with strong, dominant Alphas and some MPREG as well as forced marriage, knotting, possessive Alpha, omega heat but no dubcon, and no multiple partners.

These books are just ridiculous. I don't remember how I found the first one, but it was probably the overly attractive, most definitely AI generated cover that drew me in.

Of the books, I think I have to say that I like the first one best. I didn't like the vibes and the second book at all. The third book probably had the most interesting premise, but the execution was lazy and I found that this author doesn't really pace things well and the endings of each book always feel rushed and come about in the last 5%, which I don't find to be the best way to go about ending any story.

This book had a lot of potential, and I like that we were able to interact with characters that we met as early as book 1. I like Leo's story, but I felt like we actually got to know more about him through conversation, rather than him telling us himself, so it almost felt like the author didn't know what Leo knew until he talked about it, which felt like lazy writing. There are a lot of moments like that, so it was a bit cringe to read, and as per the first three books in the series, this one also didn't wrap up into the last five percent, and it felt super rushed and not well planned.

I don't regret reading the series at all, but mostly I'm disappointed by how it failed to reach it's potential.

This book was so unsatisfying.

This series has been a real Debbie Downer. I was in for the trope and the camp of it all but this series has not been a fun ride. The first book hooked me but the subsequent books just didn't live up to the potential.

I feel like readers of romance have accepted that romance is an escapist fantasy with ideal relationships. However, the relationship that exists between Asher and Leo is less than ideal.

Omegaverse even in stories such as this one where there are women serves as an allegory for a patriarchal society where alphas represent men and omegas represent women. For the most part, this allegory can be ignored but when the story feeds into the same problems that make up our misogynistic patriarchal society it stops being escapism.

There are just so many problems with Asher and Leo's relationship. Leo has no other support system and even his status of King affords more power to Asher as regent than Leo, which is somehow even worse than the position of a Regnant Queen in a patriarchy. I had high hopes from Rory and Lex but it is becoming quite clear that Igella is being ruled by Lex. I don't care how much Rory has Lex wrapped around his finger Lex derives his power from Rory but instead, it seems like Lex is the defacto king while Rory is only a puppet king.

This book again brings in the concept of dark magic, something I had completely forgotten was a part of the first book, mostly because I don't think the book ever managed to convince me that Rory's magic was dark considering he didn't even know that he had magic in the first place. But this book brings it back and makes a point to establish Leo's magic as dark. I have so many problems with this concept. This book has an entire element in which Leo's father is trying to teach Leo that the nature of your magic doesn't decide if it's light or dark but instead the intent behind it and the purpose for which you use it. But, then the book goes on to have Asher repeat the same rhetoric about dark magic. Why do we never see Asher question his beliefs?

This brings me to the point that Asher is a very boring character. He has no character development whatsoever throughout this book. Asher is the most white bread character to ever white bread.

This book was supposed to have me root for Asher and Leo's relationship not have me wish I would rather read something else. Multiple times in this book I felt like Asher doesn't really seem to listen and understand Leo but instead just gets him to go along with what he wants.

Also, this book begins with the most convenient plot convenience to ever plot. This book makes no sense.

The pacing of this book is horrible. There is so much plot to wrap up and the author does it all in two chapters but in the most unsatisfying way possible which you might be forgiven for thinking actually wraps up all the loose ends but it doesn't.

Now that I wonder if the author plans to write his story next but given how this series has turned out I hope not.

I've read the entire series and this book is just as exciting, with magic, danger, curses, friendship, and A/O love. Prince Leo, an omega, experienced severe trauma at 10 years old. He witnessed his family killed by an evil aunt and he was turned into a monster. He spent 10 years in the monster form with a kindly old man as his only company. Then, tragedy struck again.

Lord Asher, an alpha, found Leo in the cave. The attraction, including pheromones, was rapid. From their first meeting, they launched on adventures, dangers, good and evil magic, and more in the quest for the truth of what really happened ten years ago. This book has a lot of action, passion, and a growing love. Very enjoyable!

Really enjoyed the book

Asher and Leo story is adventure, mystery, and thrilling with heat. I did not like the name mixing or errors. Lex and Leo name were mixed up or sometimes Asher name was mixed up too. Otherwise it was smooth read.
