Darkness & Lies, & That's Just From A Professor!!😱😡 3.5 Stars 🌟 (Read using Kindle Unlimited)
This is an emotionally confusing book for Maeve & co. They're having to come to terms with what happened at Halloween as well as facing some new challenges individually.😳 A couple of the group members start to doubt the honesty & trustworthiness of one of their Professors, but aren't able to speak about it for one reason or another!!😔 Truth, lies, new powers, forbidden spells, betrayals & shocks are all in store in Term Two!😱👔✨💔
The 'slow burn reverse harem' aspects of this book are barely a smolder - A kiss, right at the end - ONE!!🙈 I've read more steam in a younger based slow burn YA, Its disappointing after 2 books.😕 I can connect with each character individually well but when in a group the writing falls flat for me. Thankfully the storyline is intriguing enough to keep me coming back - for now!!👍
Quick Info Standalone/Cliffhanger?: Standalone Part of a Series?: Yes ---------------------------------- Meeting the Characters Maeve Jamie Tobais Amelia Ash Andrei ---------------------------------- What happens? This book focuses on the outcome of the gang going out off campus during a time they shouldn't be and getting into a fight with a hunter. There is the typical high school crap, bully bullying, organising a school dance and a field trip! Maeve also gets to meet her aunt that has the same gift as she. Final thoughts This was a nice edition. It didn't have as much impact as the first but it was still a good read. Looking forward to the next one. I don't like Jamie though, Ash is kind of annoying but you can see why, Andrei however is irritating but I like him the best and Tobais is confusing!! Would I read again?: Yes Would I read this author again?: Yes
I liked this book, but it felt very much like a filler novel. I enjoyed it, and the characters felt like they grew and developed, even the side characters like Katherine.
I did think that the pacing was better in this novel than the first one, and there was a vast improvement in the spelling and grammar.
It also ended on a cliffhanger, which seems to be the norm for this series.
A new term begins. The group wonders if the teacher who knows what they did will turn them in or keep his word. None of them feel that they can trust him. Jamie has cast a spell from a dangerous book that has put another student away for using it. The book is known to consume people. There is also an investigation about the attack on the hunters that were there that night.
I enjoyed this book much more than I did the first book. Which is weird for me. Normally I LOVE a first book and the rest of the series will fall flat. Or I'll love every book equally. I feel like the first book was more of a set up than anything. This book really gets into the meat of things. I can't wait to continue on.
Maeve doesn't irritate me nearly as much as she did in the first book. I was happy to have gotten to see more of Amelia in this book. And more of Andrei, Jamie, and Ash. I'm not really sure how I feel about the professors. Mainly because they aren't really prominent in the books that much.
I wasn't impressed with the performance of the narrators in the first book. They made a recovery in this book. They did a lot better. I've listened to Sarah L. Colton before and knew how great she's been in other books. I didn't realize until this book that I'm pretty sure I've actually listened to one other book by Steve Campbell before. He says this one word very uniquely.
I really did enjoy the book. I hope that anybody who has read the first book and wasn't fully impressed with it will read this anyways. It definitely picks up. I feel like this is a story that builds and builds until the very end. It's a shame the rest isn't in audio yet. I like to keep the format the same when I read books. If I listen to it in audio, I like to listen to them all in audio. If I read them, I like to read them. I may just make an exception for this one.
Maeve's vision of Jamie dying did not come true on Halloween but that doesn't mean it wasn't a mess. They were attacked by Hunters off campus and Ash and Andrei both lost control. People were hurt, memories had to be wiped, and now answers must be given to Theodora and the Confederacy. And now that the group knows that Maeve kept her vision a secret, trust has been broken within the group. Jamie starts taking a dangerous risk to keep himself safe, Ash is on the verge of losing control, Andrei again puts distance between himself and the group, Maeve has a meeting that doesn't go as planned, Tobias may not be the ally they thought he was, and Amelia joins the Winter Ball committee with Katherine! Term Two...
Secrets, suspense, shadiness, surprises, and a smidgen of sexiness. This book was non-stop entertainment. I liked the first one; I loved this one. So many answers, so many new questions. And this group. How frustrating they can be at times. One step forward, two steps back. The attraction is there, the sexual tension is there, the friendships are there; the trust, the communication, are definitely not there. There is so much fear. Fear of witches, visions, betrayals, blood lust, losing control. Their bond is growing but they still have so far to go. I love the internal struggle each character is facing. Each is a personal fight and each must come to terms with their own mind before they can all come together fully. Such complexity. I appreciate it. I love that so many seem to have their own personal agendas at this point and that I don't know who to trust. Then there is the larger fight between the Confederacy and the Dominion and how this group will play into the fight. What is their significance? And does anyone else have a feeling Matt isn't gone forever?
With the two huge revelations at the end of the book, I can't wait for the next term!
Oh man!!! That ending was insane! So much hapoening. I loved this book. So much happens here. We learn more about Maeve and her friends. There isn’t a whole lot I can say without giving things away, but if you read the first book then you absolutely need to read this one. It was a non stop ride and I can’t wait for the next book!
Que maravilla de libro, me encanta como escribe la autora 👌🏻 Primer Trimestre - Leído. Segundo Trimestre - Leído. Y ahora vamos a por el Tercer Trimestre 🤗
There is so much going on in this one story wise and character wise.
We pick up the day after Term 1 ends. The characters are all dealing with the aftermath in their own way. Since Maeve’s vision of Jamie has not come to fruition yet we see the steps Jamie takes to prevent it. The Dominion are still a threat including the hunters who got away in Term 1. We get to see some of the kids take a field trip and oh boy what a field trip it was! Also: WINTER BALL. I mean, who can say no to that.
All of the characters have their own struggles. Maeve is still learning who to trust, what her future might look like because of her powers, her powers expanding, and her feelings for all the boys in her life. Amelia is struggling with her own powers and her fears of what certain magic can do to the people she loves. Jamie is working to save himself from the fate Maeve predicted. Ash is fearful about what his own future may become and works on keeping his temper in check. My dear Andrei, poor boy has a bad rep. Sins of the father and all that, and he is put in a difficult situation. Tobias. He has a lot of secrets and we get to find out what some of them are!
So many bombshells in this one. And if you liked Tobias before, you will love him and his shady behavior even more. We get some steamy moments between a few of the characters, but Tobias and Andrei, you two are battling it out for my #1.
There are still so many mysteries and so many moving parts of this story, that I am really excited to see what happens next and how they will all weave together. The pacing of this one was so much better, IMO. “You can’t do that,” “Don’t do that,” “You suck for making me read that,” may have come out of my mouth a few times. What am I saying, there were quite a few scenes in this one, particularly Andrei and Tobias, that had me saying more please! And another damn cliffhanger. Term 3 I need you like yesterday!
After the explosive ending to Term One. Term Two starts off where we left off....the gang are all on tender hooks after the events of Halloween, no-one knowing what is going to happen next, or the motives of Tobias.
Term Two sees the return of all my favourite characters and we learn more about each of them. Ash, Jamie, Andrei and Tobias are all back and we are learning more about their back-stories. We find out a little bit more about Amelia and her mysterious boyfriend. Even Katherine begins to show an alternative side. The plot thickens and the urgency for Maeve to be able to control her powers becomes more prevalent. We even get a visit from her mysterious Aunt....enough said there!
I found with Term Two, once I started it, I couldn't put it down. This is a slow burn RH, but the tension is building between the characters in a way LJ Swallow does SO well!! Counting down for Term Three. So many unanswered questions, but one not to be missed!
So many why's after reading this? Why are the Dominion after the Academy? Why are And, Mae, Ash, Jamie, And Ame's, and even Tobias, connected and how will this play out? And seriously, why choose between those hot guys? I love this series!
Maeve is still trying to figure out her new world and how to control her powers. While she finally gets to meet her future sighted aunt, the meeting leaves her with more questions than answers. Jamie is still worrying that he’s going to die and uses forbidden magic to protect himself. Ash is trying not to shift before his nineteenth birthday, but his anger triggers his shifter abilities and it’s hard to keep his anger under control when hunters are after Maeve. Maeve is still unsure about Andrei’s real intentions and her vision just confuses her even more. And let’s not forget about Tobias, her professor. There’s still the fear that he will turn them in for the adventure on Halloween and he’s hiding a lot of secrets, secrets Maeve wants to learn. With all of the mystery, intrigue, and potential love interests, Maeve and her friends still have school and a winter ball held by the mean girl, who is also a very powerful vampire. Looking forward to Term 3! I received an ARC from the author. This is my honest review.
Prior to the first book in the Nightworld Academy series, I had not heard of Lisa (LJ) Swallow. I’m so grateful to have been introduced to her writing. This book is for anyone who loves magic, witches, vampires, and shifters, and for fans of Academy books.
Maeve’s education continues on in this story, which includes her friends Jamie, Ash, and Amelia, her occasional friend Andrei, her enemy Katherine, and questionable teacher Tobias. I enjoy that we get to know a little more about Andrei’s back story, as well as gain a deeper understanding of the other characters. Each of these characters could easily have their own books.
I will definitely be reading the next book when it releases and hope to continue finding out more about Andrei’s family and Tobias.
I really love this Academy series. L.J has a way of creating the most wonderful characters and has the amazing ability to draw you in to loving them with out realising she is doing it. The world/scenery building is also great but the storey - well what can I say? The twists and turns will give you whiplash, Its Addictive, Entrancing, and an easy way to lose a couple of hours because you really want to know what happens next and then the ending hits you at which point you kinda go WTF, growl at an imaginary L.J. Swallow and then hit pre-order on term 3 if you havent already done so. The only negative is that the slow burn is so slow burn is killing me - so yes i need term 3 please and i need the heat to rise rapidly - lots of steam please!!!!.
Term One left me wanting to know what happens next. Term Two did not disappoint! I love that though Maeve is struggling with her new found life, she has friends who are there to support her no matter what. I also love the fact that Andrei, who doesn't get close to many, is the main one looking out for her at times and I am interested to see how their relationship continues along with her relationships with Ash and Jamie. Things are beginning to get interesting and I really do not trust Tobias and his involvement in all of this. The shocker at the ending left me immediately wanting Term Three and to know what the outcome of that will be. This book grabbed me from the first words and didn't let me go until I had finished. I am definitely looking forward to the next one.
Every time Maeve begins to feel a little more comfortable in this new existence, something happens to make her comfort level drop. Case in point, meeting her aunt, who can no longer control where she is in time; the line between the present and the future is blurred. A wonderful read, with great world building and characters, with lots of action and twists!
So MANY SYNTACTIC MISTAKES! Does no one read the book before publishing it? There’s at least 3 per chapitre! And I’m French so I’m not as good in English as you guys. The story is sooooo slow ! And they’re still no thrill, no sparks in the romance, nothing that makes my heart beat faster in the suspens, no humor that makes me laugh out loud... it’s so... bland. It’s not bad, it’s an okay book, but they’re nothing original about it. And the cliffhanger.., I wanted to stop reading the série but with this cliffhanger ? I have to know what happens. So book 3, here I come. I hope they’re some smutty actions or at least more than a little kiss. And a plot development please. And less mistakes. And some character growth would be good too ...
This book is amazing!!! It’s so much better than the first book in this series and I loved the first one! It’s safe to say that I absolutely loved this book!!! I loved Maeve so much in this book, especially with her new powers and developing her future-sight, too!!! Her relationships with Ash, Jamie, Andrei, Amelia, and Tobias have grown so much in this book!!! I can’t wait to see more of their future together!! So much mystery and suspense, too, which is awesome and keeps you wanting to read more! Love this academy book; it’s very different than most academy supernatural books! I can’t wait for Term 3 to come out soon hopefully!!! Loving this series so much!
Absolutely blown away!!! Just be prepared for major shockers in this book! My oh my.... Maeve and her group are DEFINITELY in for a slew of shockers and obstacles in this term. Jamie is definitely not taking the news of his foretold death well. Slowly but surely some of the secrets held by this academy begin to reveal themselves. Maeve FINALLY meets her aunt, and let's just say it's eye opening. There's lots of action, secrets, intrigue and get ready for the shocker of all shockers of a cliffhanger! Maeve is beginning to feel at ease and part of the school, and all of their group seems to grow in some way. I absolutely can't wait for the next term! Bring it on!!!!
Whew! What a ride! From beginning to end Term Two had me completely consumed. More secrets are revealed, all the twists and turns, more lies && more 🔥🔥🔥 chemistry with all the slow burn as this group continues to form their bond. Maeve is continuing to accept her new normal, her gifts are growing && with every chapter another layer of what's to come was revealed (kind of😜). There are so many aspects to this story that I love..navigating this otherworldly book universe...attempting to follow all the breadcrumbs to find out what will happen next. Seriously, I am in love with the Nightworld Academy & I cannot wait to see where L.J. Swallow takes us next in Term Three.💜
Wow!! I can’t wait see what’s going to happen after that ending! The book starts right where book 1 left off. You get to know the characters more and there’s so much more action in this book. I love that there is multiple POVs and we get to know how everyone is starting to feel. I love how brave Maeve is. I love how we get know Andrei more in this book which make me love him more. I was surprised what we learned about Tobias and can’t wait to see what’s going to happen in Term 3. I still love Ash and how he protects Maeve. Jamie been a naughty boy. The book is a slow burn RV but I still can’t to read the next book.
Despite certain cringy lines like "hungry but not for food", this was better than the first book. There was a lot more showing relationship progressions, although the plot moved at a snail's pace.
Don't really see the point of making an immortal only twenty-five so that it won't be weird for Maeve to hook up with him. Bella and Edward, anyone? (Almost) No one cares about age gaps when immortal/supernatural people are involved.
Not sure how this is going to be polyamorous. So far it's just a case of four guys liking the same girl but she's not dating any of them. It works better when there's a mutual understanding between everyone involved, and it's not the case here.
I love LJ Swallow! Her books are always a great read and the Nightworld Academy stories are terrific.
We rejoin Maeve, Jamie, Ash, Andrew and Amelia as Term two commences our characters are a little out of sorts with each other. Secrets are being kept! Feelings are confused! We learn more about their backgrounds and also the teachers.
There are twists and turns aplenty in Term Two and I for one loved every single one. I didn’t see them coming.
Have a read of the Nightworld Academy books as I have really enjoyed the first two so far. I can’t wait for the next instalment.
This was a great addition to the series! The way the characters come together and deal with everything that happened in the first book was amazing! Maeve’s chemistry with both Ash and Jamie is pulled and makes it hard to know where it’s going to go. There’s twist and turns through out the entire book! I absolutely loved it! It leaves you wanting more! You never know what your going to get and that’s what I want in a book, there’s mystery and when the book leaves you not knowing what’s gonna happen it’s a hangover from hell!! An absolute must read series!!!!
OMGoodness the 2nd term is full of excitement. Maeve is such a strong personality and she's trying to understand and believe all that she is seeing and experiencing. Her crew of misfits help her cope with some more ups and downs that happen. Things get scary when Maeve's magic starts to prove true. Maeve has to make some tough choices all the while she has the guys vying for her attention. When we close this term things are quite different than in the beginning. Twists and turns are fun to travel with this crew of magical misfits. This is an all nighter, be prepared to love it!!
What just happened? I am loving this series. Maeve is learning more about herself and her powers. She is also growing closer to her new friends at the academy. We have the beginnings of some complicated relationships that I want to know more about and what is going to happen next with them. Learn more about Tobias and Andrei, but there's so much more there to uncover. And Ravenhold..... what is the connection between that place, the Academy and the Dominion? So many questions that I need answers to. I can't wait until the next book comes out.
