Mabel Matthias agreed to be married off to benefit her family because it was the duty of a noble daughter. Raised as a doll to be obedient and do exactly what the men of her family, and later her husband, tell her, she endures the humiliation of her husband already having a mistress who lives in their house. And it only gets worse from there. After six years of torture at the hands of her husband, his mistress, and the house’s staff, her husband demands for her to sign divorce papers. As excited as she is at the prospect of being freed from that monster, she has to speak to her father first. But instead of a man concerned that his daughter comes home abused and scarred, he demands she go back and fix her marriage or kill herself instead of embarrassing the family with a divorce. Her brothers make it worse by jeering at her after all she has suffered to improve their lives. No more. No more will she allow herself to be treated this way by monsters who have no love for her and abuse her. Grand Duke Ian Brooker sees the sister he cannot save when he looks at his enemy’s wife even as her beauty captivates him. Commander Andre Lessa is ready to give up on his position and his hopes for the future when he encounters the most surprising woman who is fighting to keep going and he can’t seem to stop thinking about her. But will either be able to help her, or will their history get in the way of what is best for Mabel?
Tantalizing Trilogies is a series of trilogies by author Erin R Flynn. The worlds will be different, the characters won’t intermingle or overlap, and each trio stands alone… But with the convenience of always being in the same location. No confusion here, simply strong females, hot romances, and a bit of kicking ass and taking names.
*This book is part of a series and cannot be read as a standalone. Like all my books, this is not light and fluffy and includes dark themes and events some may find triggering. Reader discretion is advised.
Erin is a born Chicagoan who decided to state hop a bit, given she works from home. She currently resides in Georgia with her pup, Lord Vader Flynn. With an eclectic and addictive personality, there isn’t much that doesn’t interest her or she won’t pour herself into if it catches her fancy. She has always been interested in the darker aspects of life and mythologies—especially vampires, shifters, the occult, and anything paranormal.
To date, she has published more paranormal books than she can keep up with the characters for, in different genres with dedicated readers who await each release to her numerous series under any of the three Flynn names she writes.
If you've read any of this author's other series, you will recognise the typecast MMC's from this one and you've dealt with the same lack of editing. The author makes a point to state that this is written "formally".... and proceeds to use modern slang, has nobles using poor grammar and leaves words out of sentences. There were also a couple of continuity issues between the books.
This got three stars instead of two because there are actual differences in the FMC compared to her other series. I mean, not huge ones, but at least there are some. I keep reading books by this author hoping that she's made improvements, but she keeps putting out the same characters with the same writing issues. At this point, I think it's time to realise that the author isn't going to hire/ listen to an editor and she's going to continue writing about the same basic characters with different names/ settings. If you like reading the same handful of recycled characters, more power to you and enjoy... I'm off to find something more.
The second of the Tantalizing trilogies does not disappoint!! Even though the characters and worlds are different there’s still the same spunk and intrigue that Erin R. Flynn is known for. So far, even better is that though Mabel has been abused and is struggling to find her footing she doesn’t get dumped on as much as some of her other heroines. Yes bad things happen but Mabel lands herself some great support and she holds herself to a high standard. As always I’m glad these come out out one after the other cuz that ending has me wanting more
I’m a bit late to the party with these books. I brought them when they came out and only now reading them. I did a re read of Avery’s books first but it wasn’t needed. I liked Averys books but I found them a bit repetitive in paces, making me wonder if I would find these the same. I haven’t been able to put the book down, it’s a slow burner for sure but it still grips you. There are some similarities to Avery’s books, but I’m enjoying these more. Glad i finally got around to reading them.
This was a delightful Regency style first book in a trilogy. I enjoyed meeting Mabel and her fellas. I'm so excited to learn more about Mabel, her Goddess, her powers and her war against the patriarchy. It's something that I genuinely love about Erin R Flynn's books is the general feminist tone and fight for equality, justice and representation. Mabel might be the Saint we all needed.
Maybe I should have waited till all the parts were released, but I read slower than my sister and I could see her tormenting me with spoilers if I waited till Sunday. I am enjoying Mabel and this world that seems similar to maybe Victorian times but with some magic and Gods, only one was mentioned so far. Looking forward to the rest of the series and excited about the Karma book coming out later this year.
I should have gone to sleep hours ago but I stayed up to devour this book. Once I started I just couldn't stop! Mabel is fabulous, showing her development and her fears throughout. I'm a sucker for multi POV as well so seeing how others can view her developing is something that I needed to read! It's a big reminder that although sometimes you can see yourself as stepping back, others see you in a different light!
I love a good Regency love story so I was excited about this series. It is very different from then standard period novel but it works because of the magic. As I read it, it kind of reminds me of The Enchantress. Like it is her beginning story even though it not. I love Mabel's strength and courage. The world building is fantastic. Another great one from Erin!
I love how this book defies expectations and has a good mix of characters. I love how Erin writes from different character's perspectives and it just breaks your heart when they make wrong assumptions and have miscommunications. But it makes everyone feel so real and alive and their triumphs and happiness feels so much more satisfying. Can't wait to see what happens next!
I am always excited to get more stories from Erin. This one is different from her other books, but I still really enjoyed the read. She is always so good in her world building that I often get sucked in and cannot put them down. I love that Mabel is damaged but not so broken that she lays down to die. She is reborn like the Phoenix she is. I am immediately diving into the next book because I'm ravenous for more of her story.
As with the 1st Tantalizing Trilogy (Avery’s), we have aspects of the supernatural in this world but they aren’t heavily defined. It’s like we stumble upon them and then move on. Like Avery, Mabel has suffered at the hands of her family but fortune strikes and Mabel slowly starts to build her found family. We may only have 2 guys in this so it’s not an RH but more a triad. Rushing over to book 2
I love Erin R Flynn’s writing. Erin’s stories are always entertaining, thoughtful and fun to read. I love Mabel who starts off as a doormat and then one push from family and she finds herself to be a worth wild individual. Mabel who was kept isolated in her marriage finds once she is free of that marriage she now has friends and possibly love. I’m looking forward to more of Mabel’s story, and more of Erin’s wonderful writing.
I am really liking these rapid release trilogies. Mabel is a completely different kind of character than Erin usually writes. There are bunch of times where Erin's usually strong MFC shows through, so Mabel is not as docile as she would like to believe. This book was a great start, thank the godess the next one will be out the next day 😉
I tried to read this slow so I didn’t have long to wait for the next book but I just couldn’t. During work I read it at every chance I got, when my husband was talking to me I secretly read it… I took my kindle with me everywhere so I could read it even if it was just one free minute. This was a great read and I cannot wait for the next 2 books!
Overall, the story is great. Watching Mabel grow and learn to live her life for herself was very inspiring. I was a little confused in the beginning as to who was who; proper names and titles were used, but it wasn't clear as to which title belonged to which person. I figured it out as I kept reading, but I was definitely perplexed.
Read on KU. Love this author and loved the wide variety of series she already has (so much I could pick a favourite). This new trilogy looks to be just as awesome as well even if it is a bit different to other series. There's good world building, brilliant characters and a fab storyline. Love it
New series for Erin R Flynn and I am already loving this new world she has created. The characters are great and the FMC is an abused trouper who is learning to stand her ground and that she has worth! Can’t wait for the next book to come out. I am already thinking that 3 books won’t be enough of this new world and FMC. Awesome job Erin
Your world building is top notch. I can't tell what year because its historical/magically modern. What the past would have looked like with magic. Its really interesting. Your character growth is always amazing. I can't wait to see her grow. Hopefully her family or ex burn. In hell on a spit roast.
I love any book by this author. This is the first in a trilogy, but the author is releasing all of them in three days together. Which is truly amazing and as a reader I totally appreciate it.
I love the world building almost as much as the characters. Mabel, Ian and Alec are all great, but so are Kathy and Colin! The cliffhanger is there, but the next one is right here in a day. I strongly say read it!
I was able to read the first chapter and was mad I couldn't continue since Erin shares the first chapter in her news letters. This is different from her normal stuff but you'll fall in love with Mabel and I am not into slow burn romances but wow....then a cliffhanging ended
I loved reading a new standalone series. While I love every series Erin produces it is nice to once in a while be able to read something with no prior knowledge. I read it in two days. And the three books in a weekend is just a pure gift
I absolutely loved this book. The inner strength and witty dialog was engaging. The plot as well was not only binge worthy but relatable in our history and culture.
I am really enjoying the twist on the world in this series! Mabel reminds me of Arabella Baker and I love the Karma series. There’s a lot to unpack and explore after the first book so I’m excited to dive into the next two!
A great storyteller but not a great writer. Four and a half stars for the story but demerits for incorrect words, sentences that do not make sense, and who the hell is Daniel. On the strength of the story I’ve moved onto the next in the series.
This book was very exciting and full of drama, excitement, heartfelt moments and I loved the story. I was moved by the main characters life and all the characters that came into the story.
Loved Avery's story but kept getting an error when giving it 5 stars, just like this one. Love each woman finding herself and watching the growth and journey. Definitely recommend!!
Thoroughly recommend this author. All her series have strong characters & detailed plots. Genuinely cant put them down until I finish all the available books.
What a way to start a trilogy. Want sooo much more of these characters. Soo good. Love love love. The setting is gorgeous and just want more of the world lore
