not broken: Miranda's Story

Rate this book
My dead husband beat all my childish dreams out of me.
I’m broken, lost, and confused about everything, especially the unborn child growing inside of me who managed to survive despite all the broken bones and bruises that almost killed me.
On the outside, I’ve healed, but inside… I don’t think I ever will. All I want is a safe quiet space to live. A little farm in Wildflower Meadows fits that description to a tee.
The only problem with my new home is my next-door neighbor and his precocious little boy. Since when do nine-year-olds think they can play matchmaker? There’s no way I’m marrying his grumpy father just because the little boy misses having a mother and loves the cookies I bake.

Miranda captured my heart from the very start. I love how the entire group of mafia families rallied behind her after her last ordeal with Don Lucian. Her strength and resilience was amazing. I loved her care for the “parasite", even in her brokenness. Her bond with Patrick is so sweet! I got a kick out of Matthew Patrick realizing that his child had been enjoying cookies and working for Miranda. Their interactions were so funny, and I loved how Matthew felt an instant attraction to her, despite his grief. Aurora Darklight’s books have me completely hooked! I’m such a fan girl and really appreciate the detail and how intricately woven the series is. It’s just so good!

You can attempt to read this as a stand alone. But to fully understand Miranda’s character you should read the Sweet Redemption series, especially the first three books starting with Not Ready.

This book is not your typical Romance book. In fact there is very little romance in it at all.

This is a book that is heartbreaking, hard, and truly one that will make you want cry.

Miranda is broken, engulfed by trauma, and at this point just trying to figure out her life.

There are hard topics such as rape, abuse, murder, unwanted pregnancy, among other topics. It is not a light feeling book.

However I have total faith in Aurora Darklight and her way of weaving a complex story. I know that this is barely the beginning of Miranda’s story and I cannot wait to see what will happen next. (especially since it ends on somewhat of a cliffhanger)

If you haven’t read one of their books today is the best day to start binging them all. They are full of mystery, suspense, love, heartbreak, banter, and just amazing characters and stories.
