True Crime Case Histories - Volume 7: 12 Disturbing True Crime Stories

12 True Crime Stories of Murder & Mayhem
Seventh Book of the True Crime Case Histories Series (2021)
If you’re familiar with the previous books in the True Crime Case Histories series, you already know that I start each book with a brief warning. Real true crime is not for everyone. The stories in this book represent humanity at its absolute worst. Pure evil. Television crime shows and news articles often skip the gruesome parts of true crime stories. The real details are just too grisly for the average viewer or reader.

In my books, however, I do my best to include the details, regardless of how unsettling they may be. Each story requires hours of research. I search through old newspaper articles, court documents, police reports, autopsy results, and first-hand descriptions. Some of the specifics can be disconcerting. I choose to include the details not to shock, but to give the reader a deeper view into the mind of the killer. Although it’s unlikely any of us will understand the motives of a diabolical monster, the level of depravity will keep you turning pages.

That being said, if you are overly squeamish about the details of true crime, this book may not be for you. If you’re okay with it… then let’s begin.

Volume 7 features: Longer stories, more photos, a bonus chapter, and an online appendix with additional photos, videos, and documents. Volume 7 of True Crime Case Histories features twelve new stories from the past fifty years.

A sampling of the stories include:
You’ll read about a law enforcement officer that took advantage of the trust associated with his uniform. His brutal reign of terror lasted eight years. It took the bravery of two young women that escaped his grasp to bring him down.
There’s the story of the recent law school graduate with a crush on his neighbor. Rather than asking her out on a date, he stalked and spied on his classmate, eventually taking her life. There’s also the heartbreaking story of a single mom, drowning in debt, that did the unthinkable for insurance money.

Seven of the stories in this book feature women killers, two of which took the time to meticulously dismember their victims—a task that can take great strength. Another woman manipulated her two teenage boys into killing for her. Yet another woman staged an elaborate hoax to get rid of her loving husband rather than go through the agony of a messy divorce.

You’ll also read of a sadistic group of up to twelve killers that took joy in abducting and torturing young men in Australia. Sadly, only one of the mysterious group has been brought to justice.

Plus many more disturbing stories.

The twelve stories in this volume are shocking and disturbing, but they’re true. These things really happen in the world. We may never understand why killers do what they do, but at least we can be better informed. You may have heard of a few of the stories in this volume, but there are several I’m almost certain you haven’t.

Jason Neal since book one has been my favorite True Crime Ryder he always gets the most obscure unheard of cases it tells the stories of the victims something I think most people don’t consider when talking about True Crime he not only tells this story but doesn’t with respect for everyone involved except for the perpetrators I really love his books in him always sad when one is over because I now have to wait for the next one and although that means more crime has to happen all I can say is it happens anyway and things to Jason Neil so many people who wouldn’t have the stories told now half. Unlike most true crime books most of the stories in this one were perpetrated by women and although they do have the typical child killer and even a stalker most of the stories in this book haven’t been done to death by other True Crime riders and that is another reason why I love Jason Neil True Crime case histories. Please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review.

A confession here: I am morbidly fascinated with true crime stories about evil or stupid--or evil and stupid--criminals. I don't know why this is so--I can't call it a "guilty pleasure" because reading about such heinous crimes isn't "pleasurable." I think maybe it's because I have difficulty understanding how such people can do the evil things they do, and when they do, why they are so downright stupid about how they go about it.

All that is a preface to my assessment of True Crime Histories Volume 7. This is a no-frills, bare-bones account of 12 horrendous murder cases. The stark writing style fits the subject matter. If the author had tried to write more dramatically, the result would have been grotesque, as the stripped-down facts of each crime are so horrible they need no embellishment to achieve their effect.

This book, volume 7 in Jason Neal's series of true-crime case histories, is the first I've ever read. In the introduction, he gives a warning, that the accounts included are not for every reader's taste. That is certainly an understatement. Many of the details are literally stomach-churning. But if you are the sort of reader who for whatever reason is drawn to true crime accounts, then this series is one you'll find interesting.

Once again Jason Neal has gathered together twelve heinous crimes that make readers of true crime excited to see Neal's newest work on the New Released shelves again. But he adds a very strong warning in the beginning about the gruesome nature of the violence inflicted on these murder victims. Please heed his warning.

Instead of just saying someone was stabbed, that is not descriptive enough of the brutality of the murderer. By saying the victim was stabbed and slashed nearly 40 times to the point that they were no longer recognizable paints a truer picture of the murderous rage of the perpetrator. The author isn't doing it to gross you out.

Most of these cases I had not read before so it was another very informational book for a Criminal Justice graduate.

The majority of the cases in the latest book of the True Crime Case Histories volumes are all ones that I know. Especially the one that happened in my home state of Maryland. Now I have them all together in one book! And they were written by Jason Neal who's true crime writing style I enjoy. This is my favorite of all his volumes. It will definitely be read over and over again. I can't wait until volume 8 comes out now.

Terrific TC anthology

This author covers a host of cases that are more obscure and deal with crimes in different countries and eras making for compelling reading. The color pictures are an added bonus. If you like Robert Keller or Les MacDonald you will probably love this series. Please write some new books! I'm hooked.

Editing has slipped badly

Neal's style and story selection has matured as book 1 became book 8. However, the use of wrong verb tenses, sentence fragments, and pronouns which ( for instance) where they refers to one person or he may be female causes the reader to wonder. Book 6 wasn't this sloppy. Why?

This was challenging to read, not because of the content, but because of the writing. I appreciate that the author had to piece together the facts from several sources but the stories seem to jump back and forth from time to time. The writing itself was immature / juvenile. Definitely could have used an editors hand and a creative mind to hone the stories.

Good true crime

One of the better telling of true crime I've read recently. The author has done their research. This was worth reading once and certainly keeps me with my eyes open for the author's other books.

Fair to middling

Not exactly rivetting, matter of fact stories of murders, not famous crimes . A quick read brought to fill in spare time.

The horrible things some people do to others is appalling. Some of this book was very hard to read. On a grammar note, the author uses "that" instead of "who" in every case which really annoyed me.

True crime --- the rest of the story

When I read Jason Neal's true crime books, I know I'm getting the real story. I've been reading true crime since I was a child. My mother read magazines like True Detective and Real Detective and I read them, too.

The stories in this volume are interesting and informative. Some are heart-breaking as well. Take the mother (and I use the term loosely) who was willing to sacrifice her children for the insurance money. Whatever she had to do without, she made sure she paid those premiums!

It's always satisfying to hear the clang of the prison door as the murderers are locked away.

The Cruel World We Live In

The evil predators preying on young innocent victims must
receive punishment they fear, IF they can be controlled at all it has to be through fear - NO FEAR = NO CONTROL.

I know this to be true, I was on the Police Dept. in Miami, Fl many years followed by 19 years as Magistrate in North Carolina.
