Tackling a grumpy tooth fairy, playing in a band, finding fleas, or giving herself a makeover ... and all the time she is supported by her beloved cat Wilbur!
The stories in this volume are: Winnie and the Toof Fairy Itchy Witchy Winnie's One-Witch Band Winnie Says Cheese
Winnie the Witch and her delightful (?!) cat Wilbur are two of my favourite fictional characters as their interplay between each other is hilarious. Winnie is the mad crazy lady while Wilbur, despite perhaps looking a little crazy (although I think he is delightful), is the one with four feet firmly planted on the ground
The stories in this volume are: Winnie and the Toof Fairy; Itchy Witchy; Winnie's One-Witch Band; Winnie Says Cheese.
In the first, while getting carried away watching a wrestling match she manages to pull out one of her teeth and this sets off a whole strain of events that adversely affect Winnie. Wilbur looks on bemused and offers a variety of suggestions that Winnie ignores but in the end it is surprising what waving a wand and screaming her favourite word, Abracadabra, can do!
When a neighbouring posh cat, Wanda, appears on the scene, Wilbur is put out as they are rivals in a forthcoming cat show. Fleas are discovered and chaos reigns until ... Abracadabra! And then everything is alright.
'Winnie's One-Witch Band' is formed as Winnie hears music and goes to investigate and she is envious of the nearby choir making such sounds. So she attempts to replicate them with dire consequences and, embarrassingly for her, one of them brings Wilbur to the fore.
It is photography in 'Winnie Says Cheese' when Winnie transforms herself so as to be more photogenic but it all backfires with the best Winnie can say to a grinning Wilbur is, 'Well suppose I do look different, don't I?' At the end of the day, she has some new photos of herself and Wilbur to put in the album that she had discovered.
And Korky Paul's vibrant black and white illustrations complement the humour, slapstick as it is, that unfolds in each story. The best that can be said of the whole is 'Pure magic!'
