Deamhan have survived by remaining hidden in the shadows. Ramanga, Lamia, Metusba, and Lugat have been overshadowed by what humans know as the modern vampire. But what if vampires aren't the real threat?
One woman's search for her mother who disappeared without a trace on the streets of Minneapolis takes her into the precarious world of Deamhan, psychic vampires who rule the underground nightlife in the city's most darkest corners.
She gains the trust of the only other human familiar with the Deamhan lifestyle. With his help she finds not only can the Deamhan not be trusted but it s her own father, president of a ruthless organization of researchers, who has diabolically maintained that distrust.
Isaiyan Morrison was born and raised in Minneapolis, but her heart is in the impressive magical worlds she dreams up. She hopes to share her love for world-building with her readers and help guide them through the extraordinary settings she creates.
Her other passions include reading, and researching historical events. She also enjoys gardening, gaming, and spending quality time with her cats, her Presa Canario, and practicing her Christian faith.
Deamhan is another name for vampires who rule the "dark" and the night defines them. Isaiyan Morrison is one such author, who unlike Stephanie Meyer, have not crafted a traditional romantic tale of the so-called vampires, instead, she enlightened us, the readers, with another creature who are similar to vampires, but whose demeanour and lifestyle is more unique and scarier than those vampires, in her new book, Deamhan (Deamhan Chronicles #1).
A huge thanks to the author, Isaiyan Morrison, for giving me this opportunity to read and review her unique and incredible book.
Deamhan series is about a group of psychic vampires who remain hidden under the "dark" of the night bonded together in their secret and dangerous organizations in a world which is full of lies, fear and evil. And a young girl named, Veronica Austin, embarks upon a journey to uncover the truth regarding her mother. And on her quest to truth, she stumbles upon this ferocious creature called, Deamhan, who unlike the vampires, has an air of deep, dark evilness among them.
Veronica is one of the strongest heroines that I've stumbled upon after a very long time. Veronica is fearless, stubborn and dauntless and doesn't need a second somebody to help her unravel the secrets behind her mother's disappearance. The bond between Veronica and her mother, Caroline is remarkably very strong and undying, which helps Veronica to move ahead with a determination.
Deamhan are not those kind of regular vampires that we read about. It is a different paranormal species that lurks in the night. Their social strata to their lifestyle to their habits, everything have been shown different than the vampires. And the classification that has been represented by the author is the book is quite striking. Her imagination and her fictitious creature doesn't make you think even for once that these are all imaginary, instead, everything sounds so very real. I loved how the author has portrayed Deamhan with logic and has made us believe about their race.
The book is mind-blowingly awesome and it has got some adrenaline-rushing actions which are power-packed and keep you on your edges till the very end. Unlike those cheesy romantic vampire tales, this book has got a powerful storyline and an interesting and remarkable set of characters which are enough to take you on a roller-coaster ride of suspense and thrill. With exquisite and eloquent words, the author has turned this tale into something very captivating and intriguing.
The vampires lovers will find another new love and get totally gripped by the author's scary and dangerous imaginary world which is filled with Deamhan and vampires.
This is a great vampire/Demon book, all of which are called Deamhan's in the book. They all are a bit different in how they feed and in what they can do. The average person doesn't know about these deamhans. Veronica however does, she knows much about them, the differences between them, how they feed and is learning more and more, with all the time she's been spending with them. Her whole goal for putting her life in danger, is to find out what happened to her Mother.
Her mother was a part of an organization, that knows about and learns about all deamhons. Veronica's father runs the organization!! It's called the brotherhood. Veronica's mother disappeared and Veronica needs answers, needs to know what happened to her. Like a lot of people in the organization, her mother was a recorder. Someone who goes out in the field to investigate deadman's. At the time she became missing, she was investigating a very particular deamhan. Who Veronica relies is different and understands why her mother would be investigating him.
Excellent book, moves along smoothly, easy to read with excellent characters I really love. I found the characters multidimensional, likeable, all with their own personalities and traits. There is obviously bloody, gory parts, with a dead body or so. Fighting and killing. It all fits in, in my opinion expected in this type of book. I didn't give away to much information on the book on purpose. I want too give nothing away. Everyone, who reads this book should be able to experience it ALL for themselves. It's so worth it. I absolutely loved this book and can't wait for the next one. Each page I turned, was like Christmas too me finding out a bit more and more. Loved it.
I received this ARC from the Author, the review is my honest opinion.
A phenomenal paranormal thriller that takes an original portrayal on Vampires
The beautiful cover of this fantastic fantasy novel caught my eye instantly! Isaiyan Morrison has created an interesting new race of paranormal beings {similar to Vampires}, with their own social system that’s truly inspired and distinctly different. Exquisite vivid imagery and background detail regarding the supernatural, brings this remarkable creation so believably to life in your mind. Action-packed drama and spinechilling tension kept me glued to the edge of my seat in suspense, within a breathtaking otherworldly and dangerous world. This substantial story is about one woman’s quest to find the truth, and in doing so uncovers all kinds of shocking secrets and astounding mystery. The combination of detailed imagery and likeable, memorable characters forms the backbone for such a highly readable novel of depth that’s brilliantly realized.
“You never know who the true enemy is, until its too late…”
DEAMHAN is an exciting new series about dark psychic Vampires and secret organizations, in a new world shrouded in mystery and deadly ambiguity. Unlike the stereotypical Vampire novel this book avoids all common cliché’s with its highly unusual concepts and intriguing storyline, which seeps under your skin to leave a permanent memory. With a cast of eclectic, colourful characters who are well crafted I was swept into a compelling story that kept me reading long into the early hours of the morning. This is an addictive read that’s wonderfully multi-layered and which keeps you guessing throughout, as the mystery unfolds within the intricately woven narrative. The alternating points of view from characters such as determined and stubborn Victoria to Caroline, whose courage and inner strength (that adds another layer of depth to the yarn) makes it interesting.
I am curious as to the next instalment within this spectacular series, and I cannot wait to read more by this awe-inspiring author! I really enjoyed how the characters grew and developed throughout the story, as well as the entire fabric of the series capturing my imagination.
*I would like to thank the author for sending me a physical copy of her novel to read & review *

New author and series alert! Reading on the dark side just got more intriguing, a little more crowded and a lot scarier thanks to the bold writing of Isaiyan Morrison and Deamhan, the flagship novel of her series, The Deamhan Chronicles. Sometimes survival means blending in, or hiding out and as the human population grew, the better the Deamhan got at blending in. Who are they? Deamhan are the real vampires, not the ones that have captured the imaginations of the world, and they can be one’s worst nightmare… and, they are Psychic…
Welcome to the world of dark politics, evil machinations and one woman’s fight to discover what happened to her mother. Told from alternating POVs, we are given a ride through the mysterious, the dark and the unimaginable, so strap in, and keep your hands inside the vehicle, unless of course, you are offering up a few pints of blood. Victoria and her mother were always close, their bond strong, and when Caroline goes missing, her daughter will go through hell for answers. Little did she know what she would stumble upon, has she the strength and determination to continue her fight or will the deamhan and their “lifestyle” send her running? Will what she uncovers resonate like a shockwave through the word or she discover something that hits much closer to home?
Isaiyan Morrison doesn’t just weave a dark tale, she uses barbed wire as her yarn, as she boldly reveals layer upon layer of intense and jagged intrigue. He imagination will capture your mind from page one and the biggest disappointment will be that this volume must end, I for one, am onboard for the next addition to this series, be advised, this is no fluffy tale of sparkles and romance, this is grit, true grit and completely addicting.
For how enlightened we all think we are, there are those among us that hide right in front of us, and one day you might need them, so be kind to strangers, you never know what they may be capable of.
I received this copy from the author as part of the Dark Curse Tour and Giveaway stopping at Tome Tender starting May 5, 2015.
Veronica is determined to find her long missing mother – even if it means returning to Minneapolis which her family – and the Brotherhood – long abandoned.
Alone, she must find what support and contacts she can among the Deamhan and vampires of the city – none of them particularly friendly at the best of times; but the city is overpopulated and the Deamhan have abandoned their old rules. They, and the vampires, hunt and prey on whatever they can. A researcher looking for answers is just looking for trouble.
This world is definitely one I’m interested in – the concept of the different kinds of Deamhan, the idea that there were more kinds before, that these Deamhan rest on a world filled with dark magic and vampires and werewolves and who knows what else – with added complexity with how the Deamhan and the vampires actually interact even when someone of them seem to share a lot of similarities considering their similar feeding habits. The Deamhan have a society and rules that I really want to delve into – a history, a hierarchy, laws and rebellions all that just begs to be explored.
Which is why I’m kind of frustrated that it wasn’t. On the one hand, I’m glad some wasn’t since they were irrelevant to the plot – like werewolves, for example. But there was a lot more about Deamhan and vampire society that would definitely have been relevant but wasn’t explored.
Especially since we have the Brotherhood, an organisation of mystical researchers who have spent generations investigating Deamhan – and just Deamhan. I’d like an explanation – they know so little about vampires or the dark magic Deamhan use – why the indifference? Why the research in the first place? What do they hope to achieve? And if they’re generally non-threatening to the Deamhan, why do the Deamhan hate them? And if the Deamhan hate them, why do they do so little about it?
This applies a lot to the plot and character motivations as well – like, I understand Veronica wanting to find her mother. But why did she go to the Dark Sepulchre, what did she hope to learn? Why is she going around the various Deamhan Sanctuaries that have been burned down – what clues does she hope to gain? She seems to do a lot of things and I don’t know why. This whole book could use a lot of why and how – why do people do things, how are things organised, how are things connected, what is the history. It means the world and characters are intriguing enough for me to ask questions about them but I’m not getting answers which I think would really hold this book together more.
I thought the cover to this book was gorgeous. When I read the title and description I was a little iffy about this. I mean there are a lot of cheesy Vampire novels that I thought this book was going to be one of them. What I loved about this book was that this is not your normal vampire book. In this book there are different breeds of vampires and this book brought out so much more than I expected. This book is worth the 5 stars. This book had great characters, never a dull moment and was fast paced. This book had many points of views and it was interesting seeing what was going on with the many characters. I loved how determined, stubborn and caring Victoria is. Victoria really loved her mother enough to take on whatever was thrown at her and even risked her life to find the truth. The way the book ended I was under the impression that there's another book, so I curious to see how that works. If theres not, well that was still a great ending and I look forward to seeing more from this author.
Deamham by Isaiyan Morrison a fab four star read. This is the first book in the Deamhan chronicles, and what a start, it gives great promise to a great series, this series looks to be fab, filled with enough mystery and intrigue that will keep you hooked. This isn’t your traditional vampire tale, this shows us that vampires are the baddies, this book shows us that they aren’t the only things that go bump in the night, and in some ways, they may be able to help against those things that go bump in the night. But can you trust the scorpion on your back as you cross the river? I don’t want to go into too much detail about the book as I don’t want to spoil the story, and reveal a detail that may make you see the story differently.
Note: I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Review Plot/Story:
The author had created wonderfully a new paranormal race, that resembles vampires but with a twist. This is a very action packed and thrilling story full of drama, danger and mystery. Even though the story here is about vampires like creatures, this is no ordinary vampire story and you will not see here the elements of a regular vampire we all know too well from movies and books. Here they are more powerful and more unique. Characters:
The characters are well written and are so likable, that you will be hooked fast to their story and adventures. The characters bring the story to a new level, as if you are one of them. The character’s point of view changed but in a very compelling way that makes the story even more beautiful. Veronica is such a wonderful and strong character; she is by far my favorite. Romance/Kills:
There are some sex scenes, but for me I didn’t see any point to them as the story could perfectly do without. Writing:
The author writes very charmingly, her details are so vivid and brings her world and characters into life so perfectly, that you can easily see the characters and their life. The world building, the characters and the story itself is well thought off and masterfully written. Beginning:
At first I didn’t get into the story as fast as I thought I would, but it changed fast. The world at first is hard to grasps, but if you don’t think too much about it and accept the rules of the creatures, the reading will be must faster. After the first few chapters, I was deep into the story and I was hooked completely. From there on it was a fast pace read. Ending:
The end is a bit off for me, there were so many things I wanted to know more and didn’t get the answers. I need answers! I think it’s because there is (or might be) another book to this series and I hate waiting for the second book to come out, lol. I hope there will be more books ((crossing fingers)). Blurb:
The blurb was just right. After reading it, I wanted to know more and more about this world and about Deamhans. It was not too reviling, just the way I like it and really told the story in a vague way. Letting you know just enough so you’ll want to know more. Cover Art:
The cover art is just so gorgeous, stunning. Other Stuff
Opening Line: Veronica Austin stood in line behind a tall woman with long black hair, her blonde roots clearly visible in the streetlight brightening the corner.
Highlights: I love the story the author weaved and the characters really had made the read a great one.
Lowlights: There were a lot of questions unanswered, but I hope to get more answers in the second book.
Memorable Quotes:
“Remy tilted his head to sniff the air. “I love that smell.” He turned his head to look over his shoulder. “The smell of fear.”
“Don’t confuse my act of kindness to be in your favor.”
“Loved? A Deamhan couldn’t love? Impossible. Yet she wanted to know more.”
Final Thoughts: For me it was a wonderful read and even though it far from my comfort zone of books, I still loved it a lot.
Deamhan, written by Isaiyan Morrison, is the first book in the Deamhan Chronicles. Twenty years after her mother’s mysterious disappearance Veronica Austin, the protagonist of the tale, sets off on a quest to track her down. Her investigation is plagued by both natural enemies and supernatural enemies. An order that calls themselves The Brotherhood are watchers that research both vampire and Deamhan also attempt to steer Veronica off course from her investigation. While Veronica deals with The Brotherhood, she must also deal with vampires and the more powerful Deamhan.
What Works:
Morrison weaves an interesting paranormal mystery that keeps the reader wanting to figure out the mystery behind Veronica’s mother’s whereabouts. The main theme seen throughout the novel is that of following the rules and the consequences for disregarding them. The detail that is used to describe each location provides the reader with imagery that paints a clear picture.
What Doesn’t Work:
Deamhan are classified into four different types, each with their own unique way of feeding psychic energy from humans. Veronica also has to contend with vampires. There at times in the story where confusion gripes the reader and he/she cannot remember which type of Deamhan the character is or if they are vampires. Another area is that of the constant reminder that Veronica is a virgin. While it gives the author a chance to write a few lines of rather creepy dialogue, it really is not vital to the plot. Veronica is also shown to be a helpless mortal that constantly is saved by the good Deamhans. Throughout the novel she is told that she is “protected” by an unknown party. Her character development is stagnant up until the third act of the novel and by that point, the changes that she does undergo seem too quick. I didn’t feel too sympathetic about her quest to find her mother mainly because it had been twenty years. The police would treat this as a cold case, but Veronica treats it as though it happened the day before. The relationships between the protagonist and the other secondary characters seemed to fall flat.
FINAL THOUGHTS: I enjoyed Deamhan overall and would recommend this book to anyone that enjoys vampire or similar creature tales. Isaiyan Morrison did a wonderful job crafting the world in which these supernatural creatures dwell, but in the next book in the series I expect to see a better character arch that makes the reader want to sympathize for Veronica.
The Deamhan Chronicles is not your average Vampire Novel. In fact it's not really a Vampire Novel at all. See the Deamhan are something different. Yes they need us to survive and they can die in similar ways to vampires, but they are a race unto themselves.
As the story begins a woman, one Caroline Austin is running for her life only to be scooped up by Lucius a Deamhan who has put orders out for her protection. Together they disappear into the night.
Fast forward about 20 years and now Veronica Austin, Caroline's adult daughter is looking for answers. After her mother's vanishing her father seemed to try and erase all signs of her. Every scrap of clothing, jewelry photo, you name it he hucked it. No one from his organization (TheBrotherhood ) would talk about what happened and Veronica having had enough is now on a mission to find out just what happened to dear old mom.
Landing in a club run by a vampire, so both species have a place to feed on hapless humans. And when the feeding ranges from heavy petting to torture, you know privacy is a must!
While trying to keep her blood and energy safe from the Immortals infesting the city Veronica stumbles upon a rumors of what appears to be a brewing power struggle between the Deamhan Clans, now even as she tries to find her answers more questions have blocked her path. With the help of Sean, Murphy, Remy (Love quadrangle?) and a vampire or two, each with their own agendas Veronica must wade through the dark and blood soaked underworld... I think she should be careful what she wishes for... Cuz she just might get it...
Wow. Who knew there could be so many different species of vampires. :)
I love vamps to death. And reading about different kinds in one book that didn't like each other...was wonderful!!!! I won't give spoilers because I hate that but just my take on the book. I did enjoy the book. A lot!! It was a tad bit slow in the beginning for me because I'm use to reading another authors books. But!!! Oh did it get good!!!! I am jumping into book two now! As soon as I push submit I will be reading book two! Another thing that I noticed did get better throughout the book was the use of Veronicas' name. But I kinda lived that because my name is Veronica lol it was like I was reading about myself. Giggle giggle. Ok enough of this review I have to get to book two!!!
Deamhan (Deamhan Chronicles Book 1) by Isaiyan Morrison, 287 pages, 2nd Edition, May 9th 2015, Genre: Metaphysical/Occult. Warning: May Contain Spoilers.
Review by Leigh Holland.
Meet Veronica Austin. She’s the daughter of Darth Vader the President of the Midwest Division of a fanatical organization with super shady intentions towards mortals, vampires, and Deamhan alike. They’re known as The Brotherhood. Her mother, Caroline, went missing when Veronica was a small child. Veronica is searching for clues to what happened to her mother. Her quest flies in the face of what her father wants and embroils her in the dangerous world of supernatural beings who both admire her resolve and bravery, and want to eat her. Veronica’s father loves power and prestige more than anything. I’m fairly certain he’d do anything, sacrifice anyone, to maintain his power in the order. I never got the sense that his daughter was more than a thorn in his side to him, a thorn that’s in a place where pulling it out will hurt more than just leaving it alone. It’s commonly believed he murdered Caroline. He never shows any sign of mourning or regret. What he is good at doing is sending the worst possible choice to try to stop his daughter from finding out the truth about her mother’s fate, i.e. “Sean” the guy who secretly carries a torch for Veronica and is known for breaking the rules of the Brotherhood regardless of personal consequences. Naturally, Sean helps her find the truth and abandons the Brotherhood. Sean is loyal to Veronica, even taking on a job pretending to be her dad’s spy while secretly plotting to help her instead. Sean’s a good friend and hopes to become something more to her. I admired Veronica’s tenacity and determination. Her dedication to finding the truth about her mother was a shining beacon she clung to like a ship lost on the tempest-tossed sea. She possessed the bravery-almost-stupidity that I like in a mortal hero who’s surrounded by human-eating, powerful supernatural critters. Veronica isn’t foolish enough to not be afraid of them. She is afraid of them. She knows fear won’t do her any good and acts in ways she feels will aid her in her quest. I was confused about why Veronica felt researching the burnings of sanctuaries would yield information about her mother, as this was never explained and it didn’t lead her in the right direction. Other than that, the plot was well-paced and intriguing. Overall, the plot was engaging and kept me turning the pages. If you’re looking for an original spin on the ancient myth of vampires featuring a relatable and strong female protagonist, Deamhan is the book for you!
This book took me a little bit to get into but once I did, I couldn't put it down. It is an interesting twist on vampires and other unnatural beings. Isaiyan brings her characters to life in a way that makes you pay attention to those that command it in the story, feel for the ones who are lesser characters but still essential. I thought it was a very good read once I got through the first couple of chapters.
Deamhan have survived for centuries like vampires living in the shadows feeding off of humans. What's know about them is gathered by The Brotherhood. But after Veronica's mother is killed on a mission she begins to question everything and search for clues as to what happened taking her deeper into the unexpected Deamhan world.
I really enjoyed the story. It was original, it was thrilling and it was deliciously dangerous. There were unexpected twists and turns that kept me guessing till the end. The characters were also a lovely treat. I enjoyed their personalities and can't wait to discover more about them. I look forward to reading the next book. I voluntarily reviewed an arc from the author.
Deamhan by Isaiyan Morrison is a thrilling book that takes a different approach to explaining the vampire legends. A distinctive difference between vampires and deamhan - which further breaks down into four categories - are made. However, there are other sinister things that also lurk in the dark. Enter The Brotherhood, a group of researchers that studies the deamhan, and the daughter of one of the hotshots, Victoria. She's on a search to find her mother, who mysteriously disappeared fifteen years earlier, and only the deamhan can help her. She quickly makes friends, she's awfully stubborn, and she's going to get the truth even if it kills her (much to her father's dismay). Victoria makes friends with certain deamhan and vampires, who seems to have taken a liking to her, and they set off to find the truth. Of course, there are so many things that's working against her that at times the blood and guts that gets spilled just doesn't faze her... it's freaking awesome!
Okay, so I've been aching to read this book since its release, but only got to it recently and I must say that I really enjoyed it. I noticed a few hiccups in the writing with some editing booboo's and sometimes the author did pick a word I wouldn't have used in my own pieces, but you know what? The plot is so cool and the world that's been created was so gripping that I was able to overlook such trivial matters. The characters are easily distinguishable from one another, and frankly I think I have a crush on Remy (the Lamia deamhan that takes a liking to Victoria). The only bad thing that I have to say about the book is that there wasn't enough Remy!
Basically, this book reads like Charlaine Harris meeting up with Dan Brown to create some awesome supernatural series with mystery and sexy monsters, so that alone should convince you that Deamhan's worth a read.
Deamhan is the introductory novel to a series called The Deamhan Chronicles, and I am really looking forward to the next books. Hopefully they'll be out soon, because damn it, I need my Remy fix!
Deamhan is an interesting take on the vampire genre, where creatures which feed on psychic energy are split in to four groups, each with their own traits and characteristics – Lamia, Ramanga, Metusba, and Lugat – all dangerous in their own unique way.
Veronica (the book’s MC) has always been suspicious about her mother’s death, and relocates to Minneapolis to retrace her last known steps. With the aid of a friend working inside a secretive society known only as The Brotherhood, she has access to inside information on the Deamhan which The Brotherhood are dedicated to researching and documenting.
Incedentally, Veronica’s father is The Brotherhood’s head honcho, and he does not want her anywhere near the Deamhan – has he got something to hide, or is he simply concerned for his daughter’s safety? Veronica quickly learns that inspite of all the tricks she learned growing up with The Brotherhood, her first encounter with the Deamhan – in an underground club called Dark Sepulcher – is a terrifying one. In spite of this, and fueled by her obsession with her mother’s death, she is compelled to return. Uneasy alliances are formed, and the reader is introduced to a variety of characters and sub-plots which are ripe for exploration.
The characters are well thought out, and the plot moves along at a decent pace. There are moments which genuinely make you hold your breath with anticipation, and others which send chills down your spine and make you squirm – some of the vampires’ actions are quite gruesome!
Deamhan’s man stumbling point is that it’s in need of an editor. There are some misspellings and word repetition, and at times a word is used to describe something which isn’t quite right, as if it’s been picked at random from a thesaurus. Because of this, Deamhan gets a 3/5 which is a shame.
*I received the ebook copy from Booklikes giveaway but this has not affected my review and rating in any way.
As usual I didn't read the synopsis of this book (I always prefer that) so I had no idea this is about those vampire-like creatures called Deamhans. I'm a fan of vampire stories and it's been a while since the last time I read a book in this genre so I was really excited to see the turn of events after learning about the vampire-like creatures called Deamhans. The different types of Deamhans, their history, and how they feed were really interesting. They're not just the ordinary bloodsucker creatures!
I like the strong character of Veronica, but I was drawn to the character of Remy and I wish there had more about him in this book.
There were actually lots of stuffs going on that I had to slow down reading to process it all. More secrets, lies, actions and mysteries unfold As Veronica continues her search for the disappearance of her mother. I didn't get thrilled that much until the action scene when Lucius appeared at Kei's congregation. More questions were left that frustrated me but that's what the sequel is for and the ending really surprised me because of the traitor who was revealed!
I need to read the sequel! I need answers to the questions left. I wanna know what happened to Sean! I want more of Remy! Can't wait for Lucius to kill that traitor Kei!
This is a mystery/thriller/action read with twists and turns with not only Deamhans but also vampires and The Brotherhood that will keep you turning the pages!
I would recommend this read especially those into paranormal genre.
This reminded me of the Anita Blake series in sexiness before Hamilton went off the deep end. There are new species to consider and a great combination of lore.
Veronica is out to find her mother, or at least what happened to her. She's, presumably, over the age of 21 though there were times she felt like she could be younger. She's a very determined and stubborn girl whose bravery is impressive in the face of these monsters.
Remy, of course, is the hunky deamhan who gives Veronica a run for her hormonal-money whenever he gets a chance, but he wasn't the forefront of the story, which was refreshing.
The story does have a few drawn out scenes, and redundant information, but most people probably don't read a book all in one day, so they'd be friendly reminders.
When it came to the structure of the paranormal elements I found a few portions to be a bit muddy. The distinct differences between deamhan and vampire were so thin that they sometimes crossed streams and I wasn't sure if an attacker/or friend was a deamhan or a vampire. The four different kinds of deamhan were also a bit confusing. I couldn't always remember which were blood-thirsty, psychic-energy-thirsty etc. That all being said, Alexia I think could have taken them all if she wasn't so dedicated to her maker. She was one badass vampire.
CONCLUSION
Despite some of the world building confusion, I enjoyed Veronica's quest and the wicked twist at the end. There's plenty of action, intrigue and a few memorable characters that I think urban fantasy lovers will cling to.
A well written story, with its uniqueness, easy to understand but also captivating, and entertaining. Very refreshing to find not your ordinary vampire story.
An action packed paranormal story of a stubborn girl in a quest to find the truth about her mother whatever it takes, even if it kills her. The settings and the backdrop very well describe. All the characters were remarkable on their rolls, which is the perfect combination to make the story more likable and believable.
I loved the new take on this new breed similar to vampires. There is a lot of mystery, intrigue, thrilling suspense, and action as well. I really loved and enjoyed following Veronica throughout her journey. The story line was awesome enough to keep me interested and intrigued from start till the very end.
In all honesty, this was an excellent and unique story, that while it may be part of a series, it doesn’t leave you with a killer cliffhanger (which by the way, would have push me away). To the contrary, I’m looking forward to continue with this amazing series.
A huge thanks to the author, Isaiyan Morrison, for gifting me with my own copy. This has giving me the opportunity to read and review this unique and fantastic story.
This is an amazing story worth reading, and which I highly recommend!
You never know who the true enemy is until its too late.
An action packed paranormal story of one woman's quest to find the truth in an otherworldly and dangerous world. The world building was very well done and I loved the new take on vampires. There is a lot of mystery and intrigue in this book as well and I had a great time figuring everything out with Caroline.
The Deamhan are an interesting race that although very similar to vampire's are actually a new type of paranormal creature with their own rules and needs. The author did a great job of introducing these new creatures and showing us their lifestyle without getting to wordy. The imagery she used was beautiful and drew me into the story, making it seem like I was actually there.
Caroline is a strong and courageous young woman who wants answers. I loved her spirit and tenacity and how she never gave up. She is loyal to a fault and will stop at nothing to achieve justice for her mother. I really enjoyed getting to know her more and seeing how she grew throughout the story.
This is an action packed paranormal thriller that will leave you on the edge of your seats!
In the wake of nightmarish creatures and a secret order named The Brotherhood, comes Deamhan, a tale of one young woman's journey to uncover the truth behind her mother's disappearance.
With key themes of loss, as well as good vs evil, I found Deamhan to be intriguing, with a unique style of writing that fed my imagination. I found it easy to empathize with Veronica and could understand the pain she suffered from her father's cruel and detached disposition.
This is one of those stories where you'll find yourself wondering who the real heroes are. Will they be the obvious choice or will the supposed do-gooders be the real force of evil instead?
I found the idea of the four Deamhan clans to be interesting, each with their own powers when it came to attracting their prey and initiating a feed. The author's world held a great amount of depth and made for an entertaining read.
I would rate this book 5 stars.
Recommended for lovers of Fantasy and Paranormal adventures.
Wow! I loved the lore in this book and am suffering a major book hangover this morning because I could not put it down until I had read every last page. I love that I never really knew what was going to happen next with the characters. Who is good? Who is bad? Are they both? Is it OK I like the bad guys? Yes, I figured out what happened to her mother pretty early on. That being said, even after finishing the whole book, I could not tell you who all was good/bad or trustworthy/untrustworthy. That is the sign of amazing character and world building.
This is a series and as such, not all story arcs are complete. There is not, however, an evil cliffhanger. While I really want to read the next book ASAP, I will be OK waiting because enough of my questions were answered. If you like vampires, new to you paranormal creatures (people), a bit of mystery, some action, and characters that keep you on your toes, you will probably devour this book.
This is a great beginning to an altogether different type of vampire series and I loved reading this! The typical vampire story, while still entertaining, tends to be a bit overdone and this author has provided a definite solution to this problem. I like to think of this as a vampire story with a twist. Veronica is on a mission to find out what exactly happened to her mother and there are forces working against her every step of the way. There is a significant amount of danger, suspense and intrigue throughout this story and it will grab your interest and refuse to let go. This is a dark story filled with even darker creatures and I love the world created by this author. I highly recommend reading this to anyone and I'm very much looking forward to reading more from this author in the future.
I’ve only read a few Vampire books. And most seem to just copy each other in one aspect or another. This book was refreshing in the fact that it wasn’t just about Vampires. The author created their own supernatural creatures called Deamhan. Background and history was given for all these races, so much so, that really, Vampires could have been excluded and then the book would have been completely original.
The plot was riddled with conspiracies, lies and the like. Pretty much every character you are introduced too, likely has an ulterior motive going on. To me, I like my stories less bogged down with backstabbing and lies, all those subplots can get confusing. But this story did a good job of keeping it all straight.
**I was gifted this book in exchange for an honest review.**
Right from the start I’ve got to go on and find out what is going on; a woman in a very messy situation and it’s just the prologue. As it goes on, I’m more and more intrigued, wanting to know exactly what the Deamhan are as more secrets arise. Mildly frustrating but more interesting than anything; a good book leaves me wanting more. After the prologue, it did take me some time to get into it but once the action started I was hooked. This is a good read and quick once it gets going. There were a few cliches but overall this was different than other paranormal I've read.
There were a few small writing errors but not enough to ruin reading. There is a lot going on and many different characters to keep track of. Four different types of vampire in this story with each bringing background and politics to the table. It felt like I was only dipping my little toe in the explanations of the brotherhood and vampire relations. At times this story was a little overwhelming trying to keep track of the world Isaiyan was introducing me to. Once I got further in I was better able to grasp everything. This is a deep and interesting paranormal read.
I love this genre, and this story has so many twists that it keeps you reading. If you like the supernatural this is a series I highly recommend. I'm glad I got the next book though because this book leaves you wanting more.
The different races of Deamham along with Vampires and the politics and ambitions that are so human, makes this book something you can relate to the real world even though the characters don't always display human behaviour.
