George Lawson (1749-1820) was for forty-nine years the minister of the Scottish Succession church in Selkirk. He became renowned as a writer alongside his preaching and this volume is drawn from his lectures through Ruth. This readable treatment principally applies the narrative to family relationships and, though a little dated in places, has much to say to Christians in our day.First published in 1805, this edition has been carefully re-typeset for issue as an eBook from an edition dated 1816.
Lawson's scholarship is plainly evident in the historical narrative he weaves throughout this excellent commentary. He has such a knack as to transport you back in history to see the characters in action. But, nonetheless, he is both accurate and precise in his faithful exposition of this book. A very easy read, yet deep in learning. A master teacher. Lawson's lectures are a gem.
