For years, Snow has watched her stepmother become more and more deluded. Now that she’s been left alone with the nasty Mrs. White, she’s made the choice to put up with the woman…right up until her stepmother’s new hobby pushes her too far. Coven Cosmetic’s Skin as White as Snow lotion might appeal to other women, but Snow knows it for what it is: her stepmother’s attempt to change Snow, to make her admit her skin color is what defines her.
Asthmatic Reverend Hunter Woods has arrived in Everland just in time for the holiday, but didn’t expect to meet two little old ladies claiming to be godmothers. He certainly didn’t expect to be hit between the eyes with some kind of magic spell, and on the list of things he’d anticipated in his new home, meeting the woman of his dreams was at the bottom of the list. But wandering through his beloved forest , he can’t help but be intrigued by the lace-decorated Christmas tree, the haunting voice lifted in Christmas melody drifting through the trees, and the beautiful, dark-skinned woman who is suspicious of his claim to be there for the healing properties of the waters.
But the more he sees of Snow White, the more he realizes she has every right to be cautious around him. Her stepmother is an evil woman, and despite his holy duty as Christmas approaches, he wishes there was some way he could help. But when disaster strikes, he learns he can do something; when called upon, he’ll give up his very breath for the woman he’s come to love!
She did a good job on this one. Very close to the snow-white story. I loved as usual.
How I choose my rating: 1* Didn't like it at all. These are rare as I usually just don't finish any book I dislike this much. 2** Didn't like it. Again usually DNF if I dislike it this much, but occasionally I feel it still has potential and I try to stick with it to the end. 3*** I liked it. It wasn't great but it was enjoyable enough. It is unlikely I'll ever reread it but I might finish the series if it is a part of one. 4**** I really liked this book. Maybe not a work of genius, but highly entertaining. I might reread this at some point, and I will almost always finish the series if part of one. 5***** I loved this book. I found little to no issues with it at all. I will probably reread this and possibly more than once. I will definitely finish the series if it's part of one.
Romance genre: Fairy tale retelling Part of a series: Yes (Everland Ever After) Length: 147 pages
Plot: Snow is Snow White (of the wicked stepmother and also of Snow White, Rose Red fame - are those the same story? something to look up later). Her sister has moved away with her new husband, her father is dead, and she is stuck living with her stepmother. In this version, Snow's mother was the father's slave and when Snow was born, he decided to raise her alongside his legitimate (white) daughter. Her mother died, and the small family moved to Wyoming. Hunter is the new pastor in town, and falls for Snow right away. But can they be together with her crazy, racist stepmother hanging around?
Character development: I liked this rewriting of the traditional fairy tale. There was nothing subtle about it - it was a religious-themed (light) fairy tale with a sermon woven throughout about the insanity of race-based discrimination. But that's okay - most of us don't need the anti-racism to be subtle. I don't usually read romance novels with a religious cast, but I would be interested to see if the rest of the books are like that. It seems that some of the characters are more religious than others (and of course this one has a preacher for the hero (though, so do others that aren't as...reverent)). It also doesn't seem like any of the other characters share the stepmothers ideas about Snow's skin - in fact, they all speak highly of her.
Would I read more from this author/in this series: maybe - I would like to read about Snow's sister (and I just found the first book in the series for free!) Next book in the series:The Godmother
I love Everland! So glad to see this come up! Great addition to the series and wonderful retelling of the story! Loved Hunter from the very beginning and Snow was great for a Christmas story! One of my favorites! Lovely read!
I was so happy to be able to read a brand new Everland story by Caroline Lee. I missed the Everland stories so much. Snow is an awesome story that I just loved. I did laugh out loud and almost cried but it was a very enjoyable story and one you won’t want to miss. I loved the hero and of course the heroine but that nasty step mom was really bad. It is one story you will read from start to end as you can’t put it down. I enjoyed revisiting other characters in this story and I have to say I have to go back and reread all the other Everland stories. I enjoyed hearing about all the other characters in the other stories and what they are up to and what new things are going on in town with these other characters. I also enjoyed those crazy Godmothers in the Everland stories and that they are up to lately. Overall this is a really another good Everland story. I received this arc from the author with no expectations to review. I did this review because I really loved this story.
This was an interesting twist on the Snow White fairytale. I liked that Snow White and Hunter Woods were not perfect, but were beautiful in their own unique ways, she with her light hair and darker skin and he with his asthma and love for the Lord and nature. The godmothers, who paralleled the seven dwarfs, were each unique with different skills and funny like the original dwarfs. It was great to catch up with characters from the previous books in this series. This can be read as a stand alone. However, I felt a chart explaining the characters appearing in the story and their relationships would have been helpful as there were a lot of backstories and it was confusing at times following them. This was a clean romance with paranormal elements.
Snow and Hunter and Godmothers! It made me remember what it was like to fall in love, and after 25 years ghosts sometimes hard to remember.
So, just at the time of year when faith is everywhere, we are entranced by a story with good and evil. With faith and love. With True Love's Kiss saving the day (just like in Frozen!)
This is my first Everland book. I know the Guild of Godmothers because I love the books about Dr. Lachele Simpson and especially her book club. I think I'm tempted to read them all now! What more could an author want?
I loved this addition to the Everland series, I loved Hunter and Snow's characters from the beginning, there first meet walls brilliant I was enchanted from beginning to end and those adorable godmothers who could not giggle at them, it was wonderful meeting previous characters and how they were getting on from the other books. Hunter was the perfect stranger to introduce in to Everland who could grab Snows attention them fairy grandmother's did a good job finding him for her, I laughed at their antics and loved the ending Hunter was so Snow's hero a perfect gent 5 stars from me. When's the next one coming out Mrs Lee
I have loved all the books in this series. This time it was Snow White’s story. She hasn’t had a kind existence but she continues to go about in life. She has her tatting and nature to keep her comfort. Hunter is the new reverend in town. He also enjoys nature. These two are introduced in the wood due to some lovely little ladies. 😉 It was a match made due to music and a lace covered tree.
I liked that she found true love and that Hunter was her perfect match. They both deserved their happily ever after. He had such a kindness to him that makes you love him. I also was happy to meet all the godmothers. These ladies have a knack at finding perfect matches.
This is a sweet western romance, with a likeable couple. It is short, though, so there isn't a lot of character development -- I would especially have liked to know more about Hunter's backstory. For that reason, it gets 3 stars from me.
This story features insta-love, which makes for a fun read, but is not very believable. I get that it is an update of the Snow White fairy tale, though -- and fairy tales are not meant to be realistic.
The entire series is a creative take on fairy tales, setting them in a historical Western town. It is always fun to see how the author will make the tale fit in that setting.
Enchanting!!!! I enjoyed this visit back to Everland, Wyoming, and if you have never been there you definitely need to read Snow and the other books in this series. It is a sweet love story about “Snow White” and “Hunter Woods” that roughly follows the Snow White Fairy Tale. It amazes me how the author can weave so many fairy tale characters into the narrative! (The “Godmothers” crack me up!) It is a short read filled with love, faith, and humor. Don’t miss this new book by Caroline Lee!
Caroline Lee does an excellent job of rewriting the story of Snow White with an Everland twist. In addition to revisiting with many of the residents of Everland we also get seven Godmothers. We have romance, villainy, mystery and humor. I have to confess I found myself trying to turn my kindle over to see the cover so I could see Snow, she is very striking. This book was so much fun to read and I look forward to reading more in the series.
An enchanting twist on the classic tale of Snow White! This was my first trip to Everland and I am hooked! I'm definitely going back to start this series from the beginning. The author spun a delightfully, twisted tale based on the classic fairy tale Snow White. I love the message behind this story and it definitely delivered in the heart-warming romance department. I need a Hunter Woods of my own!
Reverend Hunter has just arrived in Everland when he got sent for a walk in the woods by some odd ladies. There he meets Snow who lives with her wicked stepmother. They become friends but Hunter isn’t happy with just being friends. Will the strange reactions of her stepmother keep them apart, or a little magic from the godmothers bring them together? This was such a fun story. Hunter and Snow are perfect for each other.
3.5 stars This was a short, sweet Christmas romance. It was fun seeing characters from previous books, and I especially loved learning more about the godmothers. The story itself was a good retelling of Snow White, but it just didn’t capture my interest like the other retellings in the series. Snow and Hunter were cute, but I wish their romance and characters had been more thoroughly developed. Overall, I enjoyed this novel and look forward to more retellings set in Everland.
Snow White and Hunter Wood meet in Everland, Wyoming with a hint of magic from the Guild of Godmothers.. Caroline Lee is a talented fantasy writer intertwining our favorite fairy tales with history, an evil step mother, potions, and a true love's kiss makes this romance a page turner and a happily ever after.
I don't even read romances but stumbled into this series because of the fairytales aspect and lightning struck. Ok now read all of her books and only hers. She has a gift that sucks you into the time and places she creates. I lose myself in her books and can't put them down when I start them.
As with this whole series, it is light, fluffy, sweet, completely unrealistic (hello, fairy tale!) it’s like a hallmark movie. But I’ve read every one so far and will continue to read them as she writes more, because I love them. I love the characters, and the happily ever after story line, and the crazy godmothers.
A cute and quirky retelling of the beloved Snow White tale that features all that was loved in the original with changes that make the story even better. Loveable characters both old and new in the charming Everland, Wyoming. Even some that you absolutely love to hate. Quick and cute fractured fairy tale reads is what you find with these books.
I really enjoyed this book. It was fun and at times hilarious to see how the Snow White fairy tale was integrated into the story line. It was a great read and I enjoyed finally reading Snow’s story.
It was great to visit Everland again and catch up with some of the characters. The godmothers where up to mischief again. I loved Snow White and Hunter's story and look forward to more books in Everland.
Snow and Hunter was great, Love at first sight, through a little magic. They had a bunch of problems with Snow's step-mother, she was crazy. Thank you Caroline Lee.
A delightful presentation of one of my favorite fairy tales. I took the time to re-read ROSE RED then read SNOW. The characters are interesting with enough drama and emotional interaction that you will fall in love with them. Except for the evil stepmother, wow is she ever bad!
Snow, who is Rose Red's half sister, is trapped with her crazy step mother, meets the interesting Rev. Woods. The godmothers arrange for the two of them to meet. It is a sweet story. Loved it.
What a great end to this series. I hope that Caroline writes more stories about Everland. Snow is decorating her Christmas tree is the Forrest when she meets Hunter, but will Snow’s stepmother keep them apart?
This is a romance story off snow white she meets Hunter and he is the an for her but her stepmother steps in to try to poison snow white but Hunter gives her the kids off true love
A clever twist of Snow White's tale. Wrapped up with some Christian values. It also suggests other fairy tale characters mentioned throughout the story.
