This was really a 2.5 star book--not very literary, but suspenseful. I had the review at 3 stars, then changed it to two after writing the following and reviewing it:

The writing was dry and the characters were shallow. Somewhat like an action film that you secretly liked but is somewhat cheesy. Would make a good movie probably--a great movie if there was good acting. It's a historical fiction (although very recent "fiction") about the Indonesian unrest and overthrow of Suharto in the 1990s and how it was orchestrated by a small number of retired elite military officers. There were a handful of "love stories" that were unconvincing. If I wasn't on vacation, I probably wouldn't have finished it. A decent beach/vacation read, but I bought it used in a bookstore in Thailand and it was also full of typos which was somewhat annoying.
