It’s been two full years since Sam traveled back in time and his mission is far from finished.
A powerful new enemy has emerged and is bent on destroying the entire elven race.
Armed with knowledge from the future, only Sam can stop the new emerging threat.
Will Sam find the power to reshape history's path once again?
Second Chance Swordsman 3 continues the best-selling LitRPG/Progression Fantasy series by Jakob Tanner, author of Tower Climber and Arcane Kingdom Online. The story contains RPG mechanics, stats, and ranks as a form of power progression.
Jakob Tanner is the author of three LitRPG series: Arcane Kingdom Online, Tower Climber, and Second Chance Swordsman. His books were inspired by the Final Fantasy video game series, Dungeons and Dragons, and all the MMORPGs that have taken over his life at one point or another.
He likes playing board games, binging anime, and eating yummy food. To keep up to date with his shenanigans (as well as the status of his next book) consider signing up to his mailing list here: https://www.jakobtanner.com/dungeondi...

So Sam our second chance swordsman and the very best of Travelers is back, and he is hell bent on saving Westria from all the disasters coming their way. Sam has an advantage over the other travelers since this is his 2nd chance at life, and he is putting all he knew from his first life, one where he saw all those he loved killed right before his eyes, to the best use. The Goddess had sent him back specifically to save the world and had gifted him with 2 classes, that of the super-rare Blood Knight, as well as the Death Lord legendary class, however he knew that most importantly knowledge was power. This time around he and his group of trusty friends are tackling new gates which are opening in order to gain in strength and also to protect the citizens. Sam is preparing for one of his most challenging battles, that with the Demon King who wanted to bring about an apocalypse on Westria which none would survive. And he was most afraid of what in his first life was called the Elven Genocide, whereby all the elves of the Glittering Forest were terminated by the insect queen Lilith. He knows he has to stop this if for no other reason than that his friend and fellow traveler Curtis was one of these elves. I loved the very touching history of Curtis which only now came to be known as his younger sister Thalia appears on the scene. The suffering he went through because of his father Eryndor Ashgrove, the Ardonial of the elves of Sylvenstride, and the disgrace he went through once he was banished, which only went to make him stronger. Curtis is held in high esteem by all his friends and fellow travelers. I also enjoyed very much the romance between Mildred Cross the handmaiden to Queen Alice Grace, and Edgar Redfield the Guildmaster as well as that of Toby and Klara. The ending to the book leaves us in suspense and in anticipation I for one, await eagerly to read book 4 of this fast paced adventure fantasy tale of courage and perseverance to battle against evil and to do the job Sam was entrusted to do.
Ohhhh what fun. As Sam trains to get stronger so he can not only get to, but cross the threshold of his second tribulation to no longer be a top apprentice but a journeyman which will enable him to push past the pain and take out the monster trash. And just so you know Toby with his competitive edge will be soon to follow! So grab on to your surfboard and ride this book like a wave of success... It's true that I'm saddened simply by the fact that book 4 isn't out yet!
Here's a couple of quotes that amused me:
"Tobes, have I ever led you into danger before?" The portly boy made a quizzical face. "Um, yeah you have. Like on a regular basis. Was that a rhetorical question?"
"A magical cockroach is the best present you’ve ever gotten? Sam thought in disbelief. The elf really was an odd duck, that was for sure."
"Across the park, Lord Odo Bumblefumble and Earl Fitzy Foppleplop were arguing with the queen’s referees due to the fact that both men had ordered their servants to sabotage the other’s snowman."
This was such an emotional roller-coaster of a book! Lilith was, honestly, horrifying. I can't imagine how terrifying it would be to face the potential of being infected by her powers.
Sam has changed so much from his first life that I imagine that the future will be formed much more by his new life. It will be interesting to see how things will change with him being able to lead the world to be prepared for the Demon King without necessarily having the foreknowledge of events that he's had up to this point. And how will the epilogue change everything for Sam and team?
I love that despite all of the momentous events occurring, our main party is able to find happiness and content in their lives - and the Sam is able to recognize that those small victories have their own value even though the war is still ongoing.
The world is in better shape than Sam’s original timeline ever was. With the human and dwarven kingdoms original crisis averted, Sam looks towards the next big events. Hopefully, he will be able to prevent the apocalypse yet!
Despite the pending apocalyptic theme, these are always fun books. They have a very anime theme to them. Sam is getting more and more powerful. It’s necessary since his enemies are as well. The side characters get to share in on the spotlight as well. Steve Campbell does a great job with the narration!
In a fantasy novel series about blood magic, civil wars, bloody decapitations, politics, bloody dismemberments, assassination attempts, bodily fluids used tactically, villain and bloody heroes... (...did I mention the blood?) There's a coming of age story (for some a second time), several different love stories including: family found, love lossed yet found again, a love triangle between 3 races, new love from childhood and love of a hardened hero.... It's kind of cute. With gallons of blood. ...yes I know I'm weird.
A lot more action happens in book 3 and I am so here for it! I loved the fight scenes but also the the author included bits that built the story and made it more heart warming and made me more invested. From the characterization of the peripheral characters to the world building I There was so much that kept me invested in the story. Also what an ending. So spoilers here just know the last fight is epic but the aftermath makes me want book 4 now!
This series gets stronger & stronger like Sam does as we encounter life changing events and of course some seriously cool skills. Love how the characters are being developed and how the story had progressed along. Not sure how much of a wait for the next one but either way it will be too long.
I extremely enjoyed listening to this book! It was highly entertaining, action-packed, fun, and heartwarming. I loved that the other characters were given their own moment. It's so nice to see them grow and developed their skills.
Steve Campbell did phenomenal with the narration! He did each character's voice very well! I am always in awe of his talent!
While all of Jakob Tanner's books have been great, he continues to improve his craft with every new entry in his catalog. I loved this book, it has fantastic characters, great flow and pacing, and I didn't want to put it down. I look forward to the next adventure.
The premise of this story caught my attention and has held it with every new chapter. It is amazing how each of the characters has grown and we reader have become attached to them. I look forward to the next book in this adventure. Thank you.
Don’t start reading this if you have something you need to do today. I was supposed to go food shopping, but here I am slurping ramen and not regretting a moment of spending the day reading this enthralling book. Be warned.
I absolutely loved reading this book. I'm only sorry I finished so quickly. The book was fun and entertaining. The story and characters were incredibly interesting and engaging. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next. This book and series is a definite must read.
Sam trains and gains power. He'll need to overcome the catastrophes and evil leading to the Demon King who destroyed him and the world in his previous life. I like the action, humor, and romance. I look forward to the next book.
Very much enjoyed this third installment. Good pace and nice character growth. Looking forward to seeing where the author takes the MC in the next book.
This story of a guy getting a do over was a very interesting read. It lost me somewhat with some of the juvenile antics of a guy who should be older minded.
Better than the second book, same problem as previous book for me is that the hate between races is solved in like five minutes. Nice characters backstory and at least now sometimes people question the MC for once
