This novella is a shining example of just how far the strong descriptive narration and likeable characters can go. The plot itself was quite predictable early on, the mystery aspect of it. Young man inherits a cottage from a great uncle he never knew existed and comes to stay there for a month in the country. The cottage contains, as the title promises, dark secrets. Throw in something like a love triangle, some ghosts and a very creepy cellar and there you have a good (jolly good really since it's very british, a treat to any anglophiles) read. Very enjoyable way to spend two hours. Recommended.

Don't be put off by the low budget cover or the lack of publicity this book has received. I thought it was a wonderful read and it maintained my interest the whole time. A really good ghost Mystery! Loved it!
